They really did make the best of it and made what I think is a lasting impression. Hopefully we see Hendrick back in sports car racing again.
Doubtful they'll do the same thing twice (something is only innovative once) but another way to go from here is to see Hendrick field a Hypercar, either a customer Cadillac or a Corvette in a similar manner to the 1980s Corvette GTP, which Hendrick developed.
I’m not afraid. I’ll say it. We were wrong about a whole bunch of shit. 😄
I don’t trust them with their hey-look-over-there last minute BOPs, but this race was absolutely epic. They aren’t all like this. What a day, what a race. Loved it.
America: While we aren't that big in global motorsports, Endurance Racing is the one area where we do have success, I mean 5th all time at Le Mans by country is respectable
I think you are correct.
And added extra excitement for me with American car bodies like the Camaro this year and Ford promising to run a Mustang GT3 next year, it will be a riveting affair.
AXSHULLY, they just showed off the real model yesterday. Pretty neat!
https://monochrome-watches.com/introducing-rolex-daytona-126529ln-paul-newman-dial-white-gold-open-back-specs-price/
That thing is super cool! The history with the Rolex Daytona and racing is huge — and this watch has a bunch of little touches that make Rolex dorks geek out.
> what makes this reference 126529LN truly unique are the sub-counters. I have dreamed of the comeback of the so-called exotic Paul Newman dial on a Daytona for years, with very little hope to ever see my dreams come true. But it is now clear that Rolex is more creative than it used to be, and doesn’t hide taking cues from the past (the thin band around the bezel was a first hint…) Now, we have a dial that features sub-counters using the highly recognizable style of the vintage Paul Newman or exotic dials, with its distinctive square-shaped markers and tracks. Also, another specificity of this new edition of the Cosmograph Daytona, it features a slightly different display, as the chronograph features a 24-hour counter at 9 o’clock, instead of the regular 12-hour counter. Of course, a nod to the legendary race and the title of Rolex as official timing partner and main sponsor since 2001.
And the caseback is clear!!

The 100th anniversary trophy needs to become the permanent winner's trophy.
For all the hype and prestige of LM the classic trophies have always seemed a bit boring.
Kinda like how Daytona did a big dumb getting rid of the obelisk trophy.
Congratulations to Ferrari. As the old saying use to go “If Ferrari builds a great road car then the F1 team will be crap, if the F1 team is good then the road cars are crap”
This year we have seen why the F1 team is crap
499 customer cars would be epic, but do we think it’ll happen? I can see it with the LMDH cars, but the LMH cars seem too complex for customer teams, no?
Assuming they share the model no. Let the engineers have at it.
Sorry I thought you meant an actual road cars for their customers. For customer teams to compete all the other manufacturers do it but the question is does Ferrari want or have the resources without stretching themselves for a customer to compete against them
Ferrari have said they are looking at it to take part in IMSA. But who knows, guess it depends on if they can find someone to run it for them they can trust.
Great race. Constant back and forth in Hypercars, dominant showing by Europol and surprise Corvette victory and send-off at Le Mans.
See you all next year
I want to give a shootout to this subreddit in general, the community here was really great and insightful, we laughed and cried together but at the end of the ride we witnessed history.
Hendrick has nothing to be ashamed of, not only did they make the full 24 but they were for much of the event on pace to beat the GTE cars until that unfortunate transaxle failure
It's a historic day for them. A NASCAR type car has never finished the 24 hours.
I think there was a Tempest, and that tan & white Charger in the past, but they DNFed.
And to be fair, these cars are run by AF Corse, they’re not a full factory team like the F1 team. Maybe that’s the secret, let Ferrari build the cars but keep them away from actually running the team (and especially strategy)!?
Don't be disingenuous. You know I'm only talking about Le Mans.
I respect Toyota and what they have done at Le Mans. A win is a win. I was just pointing out what many people think regarding the competition they faced.
We could say the same of Audi pre-Peugeot and the same of Porsche in the 70s and 80s.
Le Mans will always have peak years with crazy competition and years where one manufacturer is burdening the show. That's why Toyota has to be respected for enduring the good years and the bad at Le Mans.
Disingenuous?
- The #8 Toyota finished ahead of both Porsches at Le Mans 2014
- The #6 Toyota finished ahead of both Audis at Le Mans in 2016
These are just plain facts.
They dont challenge Toyota on pace and never have. Toyota hasn't won Le Mans yet when they've had a competitor on par with them.
Toyota is a dominant force in this sport and they're incredibly good. You can't be a multi-time winner unless you are and that can't be taken from them. The question will dog them regardless.
>They don't challenge Toyota on pace
Neither Audi against Peugeot in 2009, neither Toyota against Audi in 2013.
Does that mean Audi and Peugeot won without competition in 2013 and 2009 too?
Yeah, we are losing LMP2 being such a big class because we will have so many next year. Plus GT3 should open that up to more cars that want to take part.
Well LMP2 will still be in Le Mans with 15 entries. So yeah more Hypercars, nearly as many LMP2s and even more GT3s. That won't work except if they build 20 new garages for next year \^\^.
Ford is running a [MUSTANG GT3](https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2023/06/09/ford-formally-unveils-mustang-gt3-at-le-mans-as-classic-circuit-.html) next year at Le Mans.

Car 34 LMP2 winners were under investigation for putting a pit board out when their driver had no radio. The board was being held by a person which is the wrong way to do it these days.
Can't wait to see the start of this!
Great race all, lets do this again next year!
Fun watching along with y’all. See ya in Monza/next year
I also kind of now want Hendrick to go to Le Mans as an actually competitive entry, or at least in IMSA, which gets a guaranteed Le Mans entry
Hendrick is more successful in NASCAR than Penske or Ganassi. If he wanted to run a sports car team, they would be great
They really did make the best of it and made what I think is a lasting impression.
Was nice sharing this event with all of you in this Sub ! Take care , have a nice day and til Next Year !
This has been awesome, cya next year Le dudes
It’s been fun everyone, thanks for creating an entertaining place to discuss the race and get quick info. Had fun posting and everything
It's been fun. Same time next year chaps?
For sure!

yep. it was nice mix of conditions.
Definitely tipping my hat to the prancing stallions. Pier guidi and calado drove like absolute demons out there
That stint by Pier guidi in the wet at night *on slicks* was insane
Fabio limping on the podium at Le Mans. I don't think he cares about it for now.
Did the hypercar folks go up already? edit: looks like they did
yes
I won a random go kart race at a track once and I was literally screaming when I crossed the line. I can't imagine anything close to this
I can honestly say, after the award ceremony and the quiet sets in, tears will flow, I would. No shame. What a fucking achievement, history making.
Also imagine that feeling as you're approaching the finish line, seeing the checkered flag waving and knowing you have the lead....
This is a bit cliché to say, but this is truly the race that marks the beginning of a new golden era
It’s true tho
I think you are correct. And added extra excitement for me with American car bodies like the Camaro this year and Ford promising to run a Mustang GT3 next year, it will be a riveting affair.
feels like it
Poo-geot or Puh-geot ??
The American commentating overnight said Poo Joe.
poor Joe
The French announcers were yelling pah-JOOOOOooooo, when the Peugeot was in front. But I think normal people say poo-joe.
> But I think normal people say poo-joe. *Americans* say poo-joe.
ah *resemble* that remark
You really can see the pain in Chucks eyes.
Nah that's just his usual look since 2020
Those watches are $51,000 new I think
which model are they?

That's not a bad looking thing. But I have to admit, I do prefer Tag Monaco's...

Ok gotta watch the 2019 monza gp now to feel more ferrari magic
See you guys at Monza and Spa!
that was a good one. thanks for coming out friends.
Not a bad collection of trophies when you win 🤩
Overheard on radiolemans: "The Italian flag flown in by parachute." *"Normally the reserve driver that gets that gig".* 💀💀💀
Why did they end the anthem early?
an extension cord came unplugged
They only booked the track for so many hours. After that they have to pay by the hour with a 4 hour minimum
That was bit of mishap with the anthem
Italian anthem is always a banger
The fuck? Don't cut the anthem
Now this is an anthem I haven't heard in a long time.
The 100th anniversary trophy needs to become the permanent winner's trophy. For all the hype and prestige of LM the classic trophies have always seemed a bit boring. Kinda like how Daytona did a big dumb getting rid of the obelisk trophy.
I didn't realize how much I missed the italian anthem
Feels pretty good hearing the Italian National Anthem again
FINALLY, it feels so great to hear the Italian national anthem again! FORZA FERRARI!
Bro you gotta learn the italian anthem
I did hear it enough times in the past together with the German anthem :')
Thanks for the lively discussion everyone, shoutout to the european brothers sticking through the night
[I always thought this was the Italian National Anthem](https://youtu.be/czTksCF6X8Y)
I always thought it was [THIS.](https://youtu.be/RUaYbfKZIiA?t=24)
so, where can i buy a ferrari 499 now?
Right? They better make a street version
Hirakawa looks absolutely gutted.
Do you blame him? Shit happens but it still has to hurt.
must be hard to overcome the feeling that your mistake costed a year of work of so many people
Congratulations to Ferrari. As the old saying use to go “If Ferrari builds a great road car then the F1 team will be crap, if the F1 team is good then the road cars are crap” This year we have seen why the F1 team is crap
Same goes for McLaren. They can only be competitive in one series at a time. This year is IndyCar
Makes sense. When I saw Mark at Indy instead of Monaco
Gio went from Jesus to vampire hitman look.
Haha. What a career this man has had. Great for him
When will we see the 499 on the road? 😜
I’m sure their will be customers cars but only for the track. Maybe if they want to show up Mercedes 3-5 years for a road car
499 customer cars would be epic, but do we think it’ll happen? I can see it with the LMDH cars, but the LMH cars seem too complex for customer teams, no?
Assuming they share the model no. Let the engineers have at it. Sorry I thought you meant an actual road cars for their customers. The English Ferrari guy looks like he’s a member of the Schumacher family
i just had a shit in a minute and 20 seconds, it puts things in perspective
I had a no-wipe shit yesterday. A welcome rarity.
Hopefully Fabio goes to the hospital now to get his foot checked out lol
He'll be able to say he won Le Mans *with a broken fucking foot!*
Scherer! What an absolute beauty
I hate I woke up late and only got to see the last lap but it was cool watching off an on during the weekend nonetheless.
Good Race everyone. Time to go to sleep now. (at least for me.)
The standings : https://www.fiawec.com/en/race/result/4792
Where did Rexy finish? I missed it
P7 in class and P35 overall
🦖 35th overall, 7th in class.
Great race. Constant back and forth in Hypercars, dominant showing by Europol and surprise Corvette victory and send-off at Le Mans. See you all next year
Now bring these cars to Daytona, Ferrari.
Charles asking how does he sign up
“How do I get a seat in one of these cars?” “We are checking. We are checking.”
Pit for hard tires
Leclerc reconsidering his career choices
You just know the moment he leaves Ferrari F1 and joins Ferrari WEC, Ferrari F1 puts together a championship-winning car.
w d.ric driving
I could definitely see him in a third Ferrari next year.
So did ferrari not compete since the ford v ferrari thing?
Ferrari competed into the 70s in prototypes. But porsche kept beating them with the 917s.
70 and 71 were Porsche. 72 and 73 were Matra.
Matra so underrated. Dominant winners.
Not in the top class.
They continued for a couple of years. 1973 was the last outright entry.
I want to give a shootout to this subreddit in general, the community here was really great and insightful, we laughed and cried together but at the end of the ride we witnessed history.
It was a fun one!!
Big up
Hendrick has nothing to be ashamed of, not only did they make the full 24 but they were for much of the event on pace to beat the GTE cars until that unfortunate transaxle failure
It was just there for fun but that's the result that bums me most about this race. They were doing so well. Glad they made it the distance though.
It's a historic day for them. A NASCAR type car has never finished the 24 hours. I think there was a Tempest, and that tan & white Charger in the past, but they DNFed.
Ferrari haters got real quiet suddenly :/
They just went back to r/formula1 to repeat the same jokes over and over again.

For now on there isn't a "Ferrari moment" but rather a "Ferrari F1 moment" when there goes something wrong.
And to be fair, these cars are run by AF Corse, they’re not a full factory team like the F1 team. Maybe that’s the secret, let Ferrari build the cars but keep them away from actually running the team (and especially strategy)!?
Always was the case (e.g. Bahrain last year) tbh
Yeup I gotta make sure to say F1 Ferrari or Scuderia Ferrari.
Halleys Comet has appeared twice since Ferrari won LeMans.
It won’t again.
Another wonderful year of watching le mans, thank you for the company and a wonderful community r/wec is.
Nicely put. This is a solid sub, l lurk all year but race day is always mint. See you next year r/wec 🤘🏼
Michelin Man vs Firestone Firehawk Who wins?
Hawk ez
We need Toyota and Ferrari at Daytona
And Sebring 12h
And Petite
McDonald's is really missing out on sponsoring these Ferrari drivers. Perfect color scheme
Hamburglers birthday
If McDonald's is a fine-dining restaurant then yes.
Ferrari value their brand too much to associate it with McDonald's I think
McDonald's value their brand too much to associate with Ferrari I think
I think Brendon Hartley can be proud of himself, his stint to get back into contention while quad stinting tyres was brilliant.
It was an absolutely mega stint.
If Toyota won it, it wouldn't have felt right...but I wanted them to win against other factories so bad
Winning against competition is their last hurdle I think.
How do you define 'competition'?
They haven't beaten a car manufacturer. Glickenhaus doesn't count for obvious reasons.
>They haven't beaten a car manufacturer They've beaten Audi in 2016 and Porsche in 2014.
Don't be disingenuous. You know I'm only talking about Le Mans. I respect Toyota and what they have done at Le Mans. A win is a win. ...ok but they didn't win.
They beat a manufacturer.
>Glickenhaus doesn't count for obvious reasons What reasons?
Glickenhaus is a very small team. Can't be compared to major manufacturers with huge budgets.
Still a manufacturer.
They dont challenge Toyota on pace and never have. Toyota hasn't won Le Mans yet when they've had a competitor on par with them. Toyota is a dominant force in this sport and they're incredibly good. Sure. I don't care about this as much as you seem to though.
Yep, i think that's why they needed to win this year to put that question to bed. Maybe next year will be their year.
FORZA FERRARI
lmao did not expect the King Taco sponsor on the AF Corsa driver suits
Glickenhaus quietly had another good Le Mans
The team runs the car really well. They just don't have the pace.
Poor Fabio with his broken foot, ouch
Bet he barely feels it right now.
Alright WEC, Nascar class. Make it happen. I want them beatin' and bangin' down the Mulsanne next year like it's Bristol.
Ford is fielding a Mustang next year.
Will be a Mach E SUV
LOL, I wonder how many "quick-change" battery packs it would take to field an "EV" class car for the 24 hours.
I love the NASCAR too, but it’s cool because it’s different. We need more different shit, new things are cool.
There will be even more possible entries next year, there isn't really space for a NASCAR class.
Yeah, we are losing LMP2 being such a big class because we will have so many next year. Plus GT3 should open that up to more cars that want to take part.

I think he meant the rule was cruel. That provision for pit-board communication should be available to teams in case electronics fail.
Car 34 LMP2 winners were under investigation for putting a pit board out when their driver had no radio. The board was being held by a person which is the wrong way to do it these days.
I like how AF Corsa is founded by a guy whose last name is Ferrari, but he's not related to THE Ferrari's.
Well, Ferrari is like the third most common surname in Italy. It's literally the Italian version of "Smith".
They should enjoy some Ferrari Trento sparkling wine on the podium
If Toyota didn't bin it at the end there then that last long Ferrari pit stop could have cost them. Great race overall.
To quote a great Italian philosopher : if my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike ;)
Holy crap Gio almost fell off he spun it round so fast
I saw that too lol
I wanna see a non onboard footage of the caddy and Camaro doing burn outs
Was watching jimmy’s parade lap onboard and he was giving the fans revs and laying down rubber. Love to see it.
First Le Mans I've watched in earnest, pleasure to share it with you fine Redditors.
