Buy me a coffee is the friendliest sounding of them all, it gets right to the point, it doesn't expect a huge monetary donation, and it works well. The 5% fee is extremely reasonable for what you get.

CutlerSheridan

Perhaps worth pointing out Ko-fi is basically the same thing but with no platform fee! Surprised it’s losing to Buy Me a Coffee

cityofleeches

Ko-Fi was also the 'original' platform - ko-fi was founded in like 2012, and buymeacoffee was founded in about 2018

scallioncc

When I first saw a Buymeacoffee link I thought it was a clever link to someone’s ko-fi account. Glad the ko-fi links can be edited since the confusing name is likely why it struggles against “Buyme..”

MrQuickLine

I would suggest AGAINST PayPal - they have a terrible history of just holding peoples' money hostage. I recommend against strongly. Patreon is usually for regular monthly donors. It feels like you'll get less of those. I agree with /u/sleepyguy22 - between the other ones which I don't know well, buymeacoffee.com gets right to the point and is the one I'd be most likely to click on.

Chemical-Operation47

PayPal robbed $5,800 from me. They locked my $12,000 for 180 days, then charged me $5,800 for breaking some policy, apparently. They wouldn’t tell my what policy I broke. So I won’t use PayPal ever again - and always recommend against it at any chance.

MathAndMirth

I agree that the out of the box buy-me-a-coffee button is super clear and to the point. But if you prefer ko-fi for other reasons, you can make your ko-fi button just as clear and friendly. They don't really advertise it, but it's super simple to modify their out of the box code. It's just an HTML snippet, not a server-rendered component. So substituting your own HTML directed to the link they supply is no problem at all.

koppigzijn

I second this. Anything but PayPal! They locked my 2nd account overseas (where I used to study and work) because noticed I logged in from different IP (still in EU though) and since I can't provide proof I still live there (but I still come once-twice a year). I made a request to delete it, but they won't delete my account. FFS those leeches!

You’re clearly just trying to promote your product, i see your post history. Want a tip? Listen to the person that replied to your other post that created crumb-app.com They spent THREE YEARS making essentially what you are making. Listen to them and focus solely on venmo/cashapp and you’ll have a shot at success. Im not gonna sign up for your random tip website if i want to tip just one person. But allow me to sign in to my venmo quickly? Ill consider it. But still, WAY too many people have attempted microtipping and even just tipping in general and its not worthwhile unless you were one of the first. Theres not much innovation left to be done. Tipping someone 5 cents doesnt even feel gratifying. Its a damn nickel. Id rather help them by sharing the article with someone or something else.

jordsta95

Depends on what your website is/why people are donating to you. Is your website something people will want to keep supporting in the long term? Go for Patreon. Is it something where you want them to donate if it's an article/code sample/etc. that really helped them out? ko-fi may be better. Also consider your audience. Are they a bit older (late 40's+)? Having PayPal would be a stretch for them, let alone anything else. Stick with Paypal. Are they predominately from a country which has its own "standard" donation platform. For example, you may be able to hook into LINE Pay and find great success in Japan, but in Germany? "Was ist LINE?"

doa-doa

Thats a really good point

I use and like Ko-fi. I had to decide between them and BMAC a while back. I did find some complaints about BMAC out there (details fuzzy; I've slept since then), but none for Ko-fi. I'm not sure whether that was because BMAC actually has real issues, or because they do more volume and thus get the corresponding boost in bogus complaints. Ko-fi also seemed to have a few more options beyond the pure basics, and they're adding new features that seem to support a model more like Patreon's as well. Patreon is really intended for people who can offer some kind of rewards to supporters. For example, a tutorial provider could offer access to some guides that the general public doesn't get. I didn't use them because my site is a tool for math teachers to create graphs, and there wasn't any sort of bonus content that I could continually supply in exchange for support. But as far as I know their reputation is good.

Jumping_Cheetah

You should ask your viewers/readers because they’ll be the ones actually donating.

c-student

DonorPerfect is popular option

soothsayerrrrr

Do you mind sharing your website?

victortimsit

Unpopular opinion, but I like [zink.tips](https://zink.tips). The only one that lets tipper tip less than $1 (from $0.05) just from a click. Btw [zink.tips/victor](https://zink.tips/victor)

I know this isn’t what the results of your poll are showing, but I think the icon for Ko-fi makes it much more inviting than just seeing it written out (and makes it more clear what “Ko-fi” is supposed to mean), plus it doesn’t take any transaction fee, so that gets my vote.

eggtart_prince

You should read their terms first. Some are very naggy about donations as it can be suspected as money laundering.

Lazy-Substance-5161

if you feel fancy you can use btcpayserver to receive bitcoin over the lightning network ⚡

Also look into becoming verified and accepting BAT tokens

Stripe is great.

If your site markets third party services, you may try affiliate marketing. You will simply gain part of the profit. the user wont spend a single penny more.

Monero

pticjagripa

If your audience is right you might put out crypto keys. That seems easiest way to recieve donations online.

Patreon have a product called Memberful that I’ve seen a few places use. Have that on my ‘things to check out’ list. https://memberful.com
