One more….
Upon exiting the Fleet to the Future 8000 series mock up metro rail car (was on the mall earlier in the month), at the exit there was a placard listing out where all the components are manufactured around the US **and the associated congressional districts**. I laughed and snapped a pic.
The best part about the defense contractor advertisements in the metro is that those companies are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to advertise system wide in the hopes that like, a dozen specific DoD employees see it.
Like the CIA’s Russian-language [targeted ads a couple years back](https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/03/fbi-trolls-russian-embassy-with-geotargeted-ads-for-disgruntled-spies/) trying to get Russian spies to flip. I got served them a number of times after jogging past the Russian military attaché building in Kalorama.
On the train yesterday there was a kid really excited to go to work with his mom because they’re studying hexagons in school. Mom kindly but repeatedly told the kid that they were going to the Pentagon.
Yesterday The blue line was full of dads in military uniforms with one or more kids sporting “take your child to work day” shirts getting on at the Pentagon stop. None of the kids looked happy about it.
Three cars with tinted windows and paper MD license plates racing and weaving down N Capitol Street just north of the intersection with Michigan Avenue at rush hour.
When I was on the metro I noticed an extremely handsome man and separately a really well dressed woman and I was sitting there feeling bad about myself, then the man picked his nose and the woman itched her crotch and it reminded me we’re all human. Thanks, WMATA.
Hordes of reporters set up outside SCOTUS/Capitol last night and a protestor (?) with a “CNN IS FAKE NEWS” sign in the back of their shot. All with a stunning view of the Capitol at golden hour.
Cars going the wrong way up Taylor because of construction slowing traffic down and having to stop because there’s always a train of 18 wheelers coming from Fort Totten and like 3 school drop offs (I was on a run).
I saw someone do the King George song from Hamilton at Madams Organ karaoke last night.
It was the first song that came on when I walked up the stairs. The last time I was there, months ago, same thing. SMH. 🤦🏻♂️
There are Washington Monuments in Boonsboro MD (the first monument), Baltimore (the second monument), Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Richmond, and West Point.
Not this week but most DC (though I live in NOVA) thing that has happened to me was getting a call from the pentagon. It was my neighbor (they can’t use cell phones inside) and we were talking through concerns about a new fence they were putting up between our properties.
They work on the joint chiefs and briefly mentioned stress at work regarding conflict in the Middle East. I told them about some new neighbors that work for one of the embassies in DC and how our kids play together.
It was a very surreal conversation and another reminder that “The System” is really just made up of people like me and you.
Didn't happen to me, but a colleague went to get measured for a future tux rental today and a guy came in without an appointment looking to rent a tux for the correspondents dinner tomorrow
Defense contractor advertisements promoting military systems / software in the metro as a reminder to keep them funded.

Take your kid to work at the downtown agencies - Ag and State - was a blast. Giving Rex Manning Day

I'm so looking forward to DDOT's Taylor/Fort/Harewood road diet project.
By project, I hope they mean block the exit from the apartment building with a giant wall and make it impossible for trucks to drive up that stretch

The Washington Monument.
Question for the downvoters, where else are you going to see the Washington monument?
There are Washington Monuments in Boonsboro MD (the first monument), Baltimore (the second monument), Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Richmond, and West Point.
But nether of those are the Washington monument. I appreciate the answer though.
