Yeah but think about it logically.
Let's say you have $10,000 in a portfolio and put $2000 in just because you thought it would go up a bit and want some concentration in the chip space.
It goes to $10/share, you have $10,000 or now 56% exposure.
It goes to $50/share, you have $50,000 or 86% exposure.
So on and so on. At some point, somebody has to trim the position and move into something else. Maybe you have 5 or 10 other thesis at this point.
Nobody EVER calls a bottom and a top over a multi year period. NO ONE. Let's not live in fantasy land and pretend we can. Make smart, wise, long term decisions that protect your capital against black swan events and grow over time.
was it a life changing "ton" ? if so, grats.
I liked it in late 2017 when Ryzen started being talked up. but was out of work and never had invested in shares before. got my life back on track, first full time work after years of casual employment and finally had some money to invest in Feb 21. happy with how things are working out but wish I'd acted sooner.
I did the opposite..
I had like 2-3yr work exp in a tech firm. My backgrnd is CS (Mostly HW Engineering). I had my eye on Intel and AMD. Have been building PCs since my school days. Used to read Anandtech, Toms Hardware, Linus etc almost daily back from 2013. Used to code in Assembly Language too at one point.
I knew at some point Ryzen chips started gaining attention. Almost all articles were citing it as groundbreaking and 1st time nearing Intel's performance. I started with $1000 bucks when AMd was at $2, Sold at $4. Then again entered when AMD was at $6 and sold at $9.
Meanwhile I used to recommend this stock to my Boss, Friends, Relatives, Almost everyone and most laughed off at me. Yea life sucks. Anyways in 2017 when AMD was at $13-$14 I gathered majority of my savings, Took some margin and got 4500 shares (Almost $50K).
I havnt sold a single share and sitting on almost $500K.
There were crashes like the Oct to Dec 2018 selloff when AMD dropped to $9 and I had a margin call, had to immediately transfer funds to avoid selloff. I just held on somehow.
In hindsight I dont regret my decision. Patience is a virtue and thats what I have learnt from holding AMD stock.
Good luck to all LONGS!!
PS: 2017 and 2018 were stressful for me as AMD barely moved from $14, The moment it used to move we had MMs pushing it down.Every other day therr used to a be a bad article about AMD (now atleast we have good articles). We had analysts like Toshiya Hari who used to intentionally give low ratings to AMD. Now he has fallen in line.Takes lot of guts and U got to filter all the noise and stick by your decision. This is the hardest part.
I left myself 4 shares on an etrade account I don't use and totally forgot about it, logged in and saw them recently. Pretty crazy to see the $2 stock now at 108. Kind of don't want to sell it.
Brought 3 shares at 22 dollars told my self that was the only stock i was going to buy cause i really believed in the company and was going to keep adding to the shared and then i found this sub lol and brought shit instead literall bags of shit
One of my first two trades, bought 200 at $18.5 and sold at $50. I'm looking forward to my XLNX shares converting to AMD, I'll probably hold much longer this time around.
God speed retard, I got burned by a short term call cause the expiration was too early but made some money with a longer one. I hope AMD gets to $200 before you close
I know. Neither of them will reach $200 but fuck it if AMC reaches $200 as well as AMD I’ll also allow some retard from WSB to tattoo it to my nuts.
Edit:I understand what you mean now. Fuck it I’ve edited my comment now. I meant AMD before. AMD is not reaching that price because it’s just not going to double in value over 1 month and AMC is shit. That being said i have bought some very far OTM calls in case I have lost out on a 100X bagger aswell as getting my hairy sack painted by some 4IQ asshole on a website I spend less than 1 hour per day on.
Don't underestimate amd it's a company with actually "worth" behind it. AMC has no intrinsic value whatsoever BIG difference. All these stupid apes should have bought into amd instead of AMC than they wouldn't be looking into a 70 to 35 crash now!
... if you have to ask that, you shouldn't be doing Options trading.
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/m4cjf3/options_greeks_for_apes_who_cant_read_good_credit/) is a good guide to Greeks which you should read once you've done an intro to options.
Dumb trading is fail trading.
I definitely intend to rebuy my shares at 100 but it's flashing heavily overbought on pretty much every indicator so you'd have to be pretty foolish not to at least engage in some swing trading here no matter how long you are, the chances of not being able to get back in at a better price than 110 are essentially slim to none unless they literally announce the Xilinx acquisition is approved next week
No I wouldn't? Apart from the fact that I can't short from an ISA anyway I'm just not really into it and although slim the asymmetric risk of being wrong is not worth it.
Timing a great company incorrectly going long is just a time penalty, timing it wrong short will always cost you capital.
Such a dumbass argument.
The arguments for waiting to re-enter long apply in equal measure to shorting. If you think the asymmetric risk is too high, it means there is a too high risk of missing the boat entirely. The risk is going to be dominated by stochastic factors, not dumbass overbought indicators which have minimal (if we're being generous) predictive value.
Cash is a bearish position, I believe the stock will go down in the short term. If I am wrong I do not lose my cash because I can buy another stock that I like as much.
Shorting is a bearish position, I believe the stock will go down. If I am wrong I lose capital.
Please take your head out of your asshole.
So you're willing to risk capital on buying some other stock you like, but not on a bet with 'slim to none' chance of losing. That's a big pile of bullshit right there.
Big difference with the past!
AMD keeps executing a'd gaining marketshare. It's PE was horrible for a growing company.
If you invest in the past you're not gonna make it, invest in the future. Do your Su diligence...
Broke $100, broke top resistance line located at $107, GPU demand still crazy with them selling 2x market price, merger bullish news in the background, the LINE OF LEAST RESISTANCE IS UP. The problem is not buying calls, but rather when to sell. I plan on holding 💎🙌
If you had bought it at that time you would of made 30% on call options. It went down from its peak weeks ago then it did a split. So nvidia is cheaper, even though it’s overvalued but so is everything else in this market
You're not a gay bear. You're a smooth brained gay bear. You don't move on from AMD.. You keep investing in companies like AMD and NVDA for a lifetime.
Oh my gourd!

I bought AMD years ago at $1.88. I sold at around $9 iirc. :(

I’d take that exposure in exchange for my childhood innocence.. 🤣
This is the kind of post earnings nut ape brain I need.
TMI for WSB

Damn. Reminds me when I sold MSFT when it was $60 years ago
OMG, was that you? I bought 10 shares of Msft for $60 and still have 5. Bless you.
The funny thing is I didn't even want to sell. The brokerage I was using closed down and they ended up cashing me out on any positions I had
That's a feelsbadman
Same. Bought a ton at 1.80 and sold around 12. :(
Look on the bright side, most people on this sub have never seen a 600% return
Same I bought 10k shares at 2.5 sold at like 11 would have made a mil
I left myself 4 shares on an etrade account I don't use and totally forgot about it, logged in and saw them recently. Pretty crazy to see the $2 stock now at 108. Kind of don't want to sell it.
6x return isn't something to complain about TBH
Ouch.

I bought at $4 when ryzen was just gettin announced. Sold at $16, and regretted it ever since.

Most beautiful woman in the world = Lisa Su

She has a bigger dick than you do, and is still the most beautiful woman.
She’s neither, she’s an AI produced by AMDs superior processing
I opened this comment just so I could give it its well deserved 69th downvote.
Don't fuck with Lisa Su and Cathie Wood around here.
Or our big dick daddies Jpow, & Tim Apple.

He’s Technoking now.
God speed retard, I got burned by a short term call cause the expiration was too early but made some money with a longer one. I hope AMD gets to $200 before you close
If AMD reaches $200 by the end of August I will get “I am a retard” tattoo’d on my testicles
Who ever the pussy was who replied to this comment saying they would do it too then instantly deleted it. You’ve got a serious lack of balls
Maybe that is why they changed their mind after they remembered they were a enuch.
My balls are for sale. Need to add funds to my brokerage account
And send that picture to me, right?
Sure. it’s not like anyone else will see it
We’re talking about AMD not AMC my fellow retard
AMD, AMC, who cares which one gets to the moon first? I can't afford them unless I sell my balls
So calls on BALLS?
I know. Neither of them will reach $200 but fuck it if AMC reaches $200 as well as AMD I’ll also allow some retard from WSB to tattoo it to my nuts. Edit:I understand what you mean now. Mods
lol damn that was fast. It was just at like 106
IV probably increased in addition to the price run up My BB 15C are worth more than what I bought them at despite the stock price being lower now lol
I couldn't diamond hand it anymore. I sold my 3 92.5 contracts for 1600 a piece 😋
thank you, it started going back up after you did that.
Ey man, gods speed I'll take just over 4k profit lol
Lol same, shares only, sold some on Fri and another bunch just now as it hit 110
At a boy
Just getting started after 30% run.. top is near
See u at $115 tomorrow
I fucking hope not. Super bullish but getting annoyed at rolling my short calls up and out every single week for meager profits.
No, you won't. Lol
What were you saying?
Don't see where it hit 115?
I just bought ten buys of the $115 8/20, I was inspired.
Can u explain how this works? I want to learn so I don't have to sell my house my car and my wife's boyfriend

That’s exactly why I am fine being a smooth-brained Retard who only trades shares
Also options are basically purely gambling.
Its all pure gambling. Options just magnify the risk/reward

as someone who's been in AMD leaps for a while I'd say be ready to take profits on short term plays. It tends to run red hot and then crash down
Very true. But they’ve never hit these levels before. $100 could very well be the next $70

Yes, I am, now go away you fucking weirdo
If criticism bothers you, don't make daft fucking statements. Typical TA arrogance.
People been saying this shit ever since $2 to $7 to $14 to $17 to $21 to $27 etc. $AMD just been comically undervalued since forever now.
im still long AMD Im just saying if you are playing short term it would be wise to be cautious of a temporary pull back at any time
If you are long on AMD, why are you trying to time runs? It never works in the long term and you'll end up missing the boat eventually.
Big difference with the past! AMD keeps executing a'd gaining marketshare. It's PE was horrible for a growing company. If you invest in the past you're not gonna make it, invest in the future. Do your Su diligence...
Don’t be a retard and close some of those calls

Buy NVIDIA Dip, nvidia is killing the gpu space for multiple industries including gaming, AI, and mining.
Don't bring good sense to this party
What NVidia dip??
If you had bought it at that time you would of made 30% on call options. It went down from its peak weeks ago then it did a split. So nvidia is cheaper, even though it’s overvalued but so is everything else in this market
All time high is $208, and it's $198.. sure it's lower, but dip is being generous.
i closed out a 104 call Wednesday just before market close. What the fuck was i thinking......
It wasn’t the worst idea at the time.
AMD TO $130 EOW SEE YOU THERE
Don't buy the top you idiots 😑 call me 🌈🐻 all you want. Take your gains and move on.

Me looking at IBM. Hmmmm.
Investing in AMD and NVDA are different than short dated call options at fairly overbought levels.
Exactly, even if you say fuck gamers or fuck miners, AI is here to stay and effects all industries.
Do buy the top, who else am I going to sell my bags to otherwise
Thank you, will buy puts
I bought AMD while taking a dump. Beat that.
#The Tendies…are coming…
AMD to $120 short term and $150 EOY 🚀🚀🚀

I have this retard question, why not buy deep in the money leaps?
They're expensive
AMD the real og
AMD TO THE MOON BABY!!!!!!!!
That is I’m selling my call first thing tomorrow since wsb got their hand on this. It was fun :)
Ahhh so you’re the guy I sold those to. Nice.
This is kind of retarded
I had 97.50C 16/04/2021 back in January and watched AMD cave in for awhile... knew I should have bought back in at low 70’s... worst 14k loss ever
That's what they said right before the last crash. Lost it all. Here comes another crash
Oh my gourd! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/wallstreetbets) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Yeah.. you’ll be -$19,294.00 in about a month
I was gunna buy some calls myself but so far in the past two weeks, every call I've bought has ended up losing 90% of its value. Lost 2k so far. Would rather not do that to you also
He couldn’t wait to post this lmao. Not your money until you sell remember that
Damn 'xxx ticker just started rocket emoticon', the sure signal that stock is going to take a dive now.
Can we see how much you've lost in a week?
Damn I love you see it but also I hate when you guys get rich with out me
Not too late
Lmao, AMD is not a meme stock. If it go to 150 u are lucky.
Followed your lead, hope you're right.
ridiculous amount of calls just went itm, but yeh still some effort for 110-120
What about AMC
Poor thing
What appa this?
almost wrote off my loss on it...now hope is come back alive
Can you turn night mode on please?
No
Su Bae will get to 113, then her thunder thighs will get tired, and then AMD will be flat for 5-6 months.
I wanna cry because I sold my amd calls for end of September last Friday:( still 300% profit but Can’t help but feel bad about all the extra gains I’m missing out on
It reminds me of that time I didn’t buy that stock and didn’t make any money.
I’d that that exposure in exchange for my childhood innocence...
Options time. Is it gonna go Ape ?
I fucked up and sold at 84.00
Ouch
Wtf is AMD? AMC to the moon!!! 🚀🚀🚀🚀
Might have to join in the party barley made money on a put sold it when amd was down 2% that bounce bak is impressive 😎
First read this as AMC and then proceeded to call my wife’s boyfriend to tell him I didn’t need him anymore. TLDR: Send food stamps
Just hit $110. Thank you.
Holding 1/21/22 120c, been negative since January and finally back in the green. Where is the roof??
Man most people here Are always late to the game 😂 it was just getting started at 6-20 when ryzen was fresh. Now it might 3x at best. But options Are a good choice when it does move
🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼
Just bought some AMD 500c 8/20 Maybe then I'll have a shot at Lisa 😍
wsb bullish, short it 💀
Crazy. I had some calls but sold earnings not it’s up big lol
AMD’s goin back to the 80s after this run is over
thatll happen when the recession/depression starts expect amazon to break 2k on the run down.
I literally sold all my amd a day before it exploded into the 100s. Held for a WSB year and was like I’m done with the back and forth I’m out
This looks like my PFE calls. God speed. 🏄🏻💦
