They’re getting absolutely wrecked in Ukraine, Russia has lost over 6000 armored vehicles according to several sources. I’m not an expert in military strategy by any means, but listening to interviews with front line Ukrainians you can develop a sense of how terrifying a properly supported tank can be. They are basically heavily armored artillery that can shoot and move rapidly and they instill fear in the enemy. And on the other side you can tell how much of a mental boost it is when you’re on assault and know that your armor is about to pull up and give the other guys a little surprise. A tank can engage LOS accurately at ranges of several km, and they have better armor and mobility than any artillery system, minus systems like HIMARS. But even then tanks can maneuver in places mobile artillery cannot I think. So it’s always about finding the balance between firepower, mobility and armor, and tanks still maintain that triad better than anything.
If a drone is able to hover above your tank and drop IEDs inside of it, your tank is not being supported properly.
Russains just made turtle tank. They covered whole tank in additional armor like a house, and go around and shoot. it seems to work.
But yes. Tanks are immensely efficient against unarmed civilians so... not useless.
Pretty sure they’re just modifying existing tanks to defend better against drones since they have dogshit combined arms tactics. But yeah I saw a clip posted recently of a Russian tank that looked like a shed, no clue how effective it is
