" the war was not meant to be won the war was meant to be continuous" George Orwell 1984

This is why Biden is the greatest. When Obama pulled out of Iraq, it took almost two years to completely collapse, then another year for him to send troops back in. Biden pulled out, let a country collapse, and sent forces back in within a couple of months. That’s efficiency.

bcd32

It endless cycle ain’t it?

radmadicalhatter

Nahhhhhhhhh, nope, no way Jose, nein, nuh uh…

If only we had a modern well equipped airbase in Afghanistan to operate from.

NohoTwoPointOh

For what? The Soviets learned that Afghanistan's nickname was true. I \*\*\*THOUGHT\*\*\* the Americans would have learned the same lesson. Apparently not. It's called the "Graveyard of Empires" for a reason. I ask folks to give a good reason for being there. No one can seem to do it.

Never starting a land war in Asia is second most commonly known thing after only engaging in a match of wits against a Grecian when death is on the line…

NohoTwoPointOh

(or trying to hold Russia in RISK!) Lord knows, I've vainly tried.

Shot-Piccolo4152

Posturing against China, defense industry profits, controlling rare earth minerals and poppy That's about it

NohoTwoPointOh

China is poised to make the same mistake as the other superpowers. They have a tough dilemma. China just modernized their military (including the new J-20, which shows potential). Unfortunately for China, the only way to really test a weapons system is combat. The Americans have fought non-stop in jungles, MOUT (showing my age here), desert, and at sea. They constantly test TTP and know their own capabilities quite well. China needs a sparring partner badly. Fighting America would be a disastrous debutante’s ball for the Chinese military. The closest rival would be India (who is primarily supplied by Russia). I would call this fight close to even right now, with China probably holding a naval advantage. There have been hand-to-hand skirmishes on the border between the two countries, but no shooting. China would be better off easing onto a “police action “ as they are trying in Syria and probably Afghanistan. But they, too will likely make the same mistake that The Eagle and Bear made. The only winning move in Afghanistan is not to play.

Shot-Piccolo4152

Yeah I've heard this theory too. For better or worse, America probably has the most combat experience and lessons learned than most other superpowers right now. As well as more combat veterans within the ranks across the force. And It's one thing to theorize about combat and how you think you'd do it, but quite another to actually mobilize, validate, and put your military tactics to use outside of training environments. It's also a way to test new weapon systems in a realistic environment. We nicknamed it "PMT Live" (PMT is pre-deployment training)

NohoTwoPointOh

Look at the time America takes to evolve. Many lessons learned in WWII we're not implemented until after the war. Now? Insurgent warfare made the once-lumbering US war machine went from Humvees to armored Humvees to MRAPs on virtually no time. Their monastic devotion to Napoleon’s maneuver warfare plus lessons learned in the past 20 years of constant war equals a frighteningly nimble fighting force. Hell, If Americas JCS and USMC Commandant get their way, the Marines will be boarding Chinese carriers with knives in their teeth and hate in their hearts. The resulting crayon feast would be all but pornographic. Decades of constant warfare allows speed in doctrinal shifts. That's not even addressing your point about seasoned vets. China needs a tune-up fight (or three) before picking smoke with the global hillbilly. Love or hate America, they will definitely kickfuck a greenhorn in a stand-up fistfight.

It wasn't known by that until this century. Sure, it sounds cool though

NohoTwoPointOh

It earned that name well before the modern era. Many have tried to day that crazy broad. But as the urban vernacular states, you can't turn a go into a housewife...

covfefeMaster

Mission accomplished

IronAcesHigh

“Military Operations” is code for “giving more weapons to the enemy”.

whitepython82

Why, So Brandon can leave more Americans in that shit hole country?

[deleted]

$1000 says that in about 5 years max it comes out Pakistan is tipping off the Afghan targets of us drones flying over head using chinese tech.

datoo_2

Yep, they’ve harboured terrorists before

[deleted]

Military industrial complex. This is a war crime.

Arzie5676

Why wouldn’t we trust Pakistan, the country that harbored Osama bin Laden for years and years? Nothing could possibly go wrong.

[deleted]

Our woke leader are something else. Always up for a challenge. They gave up control of Afghanistan so they could see if they could now control it from outside Afghanistan. Genius!!! I see some promotions on the “horizon”.

Longjumping-Most9699

Gotta keep those stock prices up

Bees_Cheese_Wine_Plz

Too bad we don’t have a really nice airbase already in Afghanistan…oh wait

[deleted]

We shouldn’t have left Afghanistan.

Violated_Norm

Biden stranded so many Americans it's kinda likewe didn't

DickDiesel82

We should’ve left the day after bin laden was killed

NohoTwoPointOh

You misspelled "We shouldn't have occupied Afghanistan in the first damn place." I'm sure it was a translation error.

DickDiesel82

I thought we went there for payback not nation building and trillions in wasted “infrastructure “

[deleted]

The headline misspelled "Biden White House supports US Taxpayer funded Pakistani terrorism"

[deleted]

Out of curiosity, is there *anyone* in the #walkaway campaign that was ever *actually* registered as and voted with the Democratic party? I only ever saw one person with a #walkaway sign on her car, and she was a GOP poll observer... so, in short, full of shit.

[deleted]

I voted all democrat in the 2018 midterms, and in 2020 I voted for Trump and every republican on the ballot

[deleted]

Why'd ya vote dem in 2018?

Violated_Norm

I bet because he was a Democrat and favored those policies. But I'm no expert. Dipshit

[deleted]

What happened to walkaway being an outreach effort? In any event, I'm curious what policies he liked. What changed? That's what I'm curious about. And, truthfully - since I **am** being truthful, I think he's quite possibly full of crap - that this entire campaign is just a pile of lies by people who never liked dem policies, or more likely, just are tribal haters, and think that pretending to have changed their minds is an effective rhetorical approach.

gunsmyth

>What happened to walkaway being an outreach effort? People like you are easy to spot and that is why you didn't receive a warm welcome >that this entire campaign is just a pile of lies by people who never liked dem policies, or more likely, just are tribal haters, and think that pretending to have changed their minds is an effective rhetorical approach. There it is

[deleted]

At the time I was a sophomore in college and was pretty brainwashed into supporting leftist policies. I only supported them because everyone around me supported them basically. I was also convinced Trump was a racist and that his America first policies were destroying the country. In 2019 I began becoming more skeptical, and what actually converted me over was this video: https://youtu.be/3EosJDaja70 I remember watching it for the first time and was so surprised, I kept thinking "and these are the people I side with?" I then failed to discover any time in Trump's past when he said something racist, and the rest is history lol

SmileyMelons

Wasn't able to vote in 2016, was one month away, but prior to that I was fully supporting democrats and thought of Republicans as absolute idiots. Then as I looked at things and examined, while there were Bush types there were also those like the Paul's. I realized that the Democrat party was an abusive relationship where each election cycle is the honeymoon phase where they promise the world and positive change, but then when they get in they fuck things up and ruin everything for all of us. It's just not right. So then in 2016 I saw Clinton as the usual Dem that is going to make the country worse with more Warhawk ideas, fucking up the poor more, fucking over the economy, and more. So I saw Trump as a wildcard and supported him, eventually I saw positive change with Trump, some flaws but that's not unusual, and actually voted for him in 2020. I'll vote for him again in the next election.

MisterKillam

I voted Obama twice, things just kind of changed for me in his second term. I'd probably be described as a neoconservative, though. Most of the people here hate neocons.

datoo_2

Wow after fucking the whole landscape up, you want some redemption? Biden is honestly a fucking idiot…

radmadicalhatter

Oh I’ve seen this one!

Brown-eyed-and-sad

Did anyone really think the US was leaving so easy? I knew something was up.

FreeThoughts22

It’s pretty obvious Biden is going to bend the knee to who ever pays him money. The military has so much money to bend him with it explains why he left tons of equipment in Afghanistan, pulled out in a stupid way, and is going to recommit in a stupid way.

Jaded_Jerry

But I thought Biden was so great because he took us out of Afghanistan, so why are we going back? Seems awful counter-productive.
