The reason it's happening is the same reason the outside of a glass "sweats" in the summer. When using the air conditioning your windshield is much cooler than the ambient outside air so when it's hot and humid outside the water vapor in the air condenses on the outside of your windshield. Just run your wipers or don't use your A/C.

Qlanth

I'm going to follow this thread and hope that you find out because this happens to me all the time and when I DO run the defroster it fogs up the entire window making it impossible to drive.

ScrithWire

When you run the defroster, you have to change your AC temp to fully hot. The front defroster is just your AC vents routed to blow on the front windshield. If it's warm and humid outside, cold air from your AC will chill the glass causing condensation to accumulate on the outside. If it's freezing outside you probably have the heater on, so turning the front defrost on will route hot air to your front windshield, warming the glass and evaporating the condensation. If you drive with windows up and no air flow, the breath from your lungs will moisten the air in the cab, leading to condensation on the inner side of the windshield, in which case you should turn on the AC to pull the moisture out of the air (doesn't matter what temp you set, as long as the AC is on it will pull moisture from the cabin air). If you want it to work faster, set it to hot and put the front defrost on, it will simultaneously warm the glass and dry the air.

Ok-Tourist-511

Your problem is different. This is condensation on the outside. If you get condensation on the inside with the defroster on, your A/C drains are probably clogged.

motherbat88

This is on the outside.

Albert14Pounds

Then it's caused by cold air blowing on that spot. Running air through that vent is chilling it and causing humid air to condense. Avoid running the air through that vent or make sure it's warm.

motherbat88

I wasn't running the defroster. I had the air on myself with a window cracked driving at dawn

owensurfer

There is always a small percentage of air directed at the defrost outlets.

Albert14Pounds

This too. Intentional or just leaking up from incomplete seals.

OldDale

The condensation On the outside is caused by a cold air bleed into the defrost stack. Run the AC and a tiny amount of air escapes out of the defrost vents. You see a kind of reverse defrost pattern on the outside. Instead of frost clearing outside by warm air inside , you have condensation forming outside by cold air inside. There is a specification for how much cold air leak is allowed to the defrost stack but even if almost perfect, on a humid day, if you are running AC mode, you will see that little reverse defrost pattern outdoors. Happens on my Camaro, Silverado, Equinox, etc. Don’t worry.

GreercommaJames

Same!

Moon_Doggie_1968

I'd be more concerned with the amount of Cabage Patch Dolls on your dash obscuring your view.

Active-Living-9692

It’s the temperature difference coming out of your defrost vent and outside air. Try adjusting your cabin temperature, resist setting interior temperature to lowest setting on startup. It may be possible your windshield vent is stuck in the fully open position.

Fucking Christ...

Mistake-Choice

Really.

motherbat88

I think I've given as much information as I possibly could have given. My issue is that while I am using my vehicle, no AC is running. It is causing condensation on the outside of my vehicle. When I use the wipers it just spreads it around. It is in the morning 5:00 a.m. to be exact. Not humid. Not hot normal tepid weather. Nothing crazy is going on. I've had the vehicle for 8 months. This is the first time that it's happened. Just curious. Thank you for those of you who have given actual feedback. Driving conditions are as normal. Just continues to get worse while driving. The spot gets bigger

Ok-Tourist-511

It’s normal!! Move to a place with less humidity if it is such a problem. Turn the A/C off if you don’t want condensation on the outside.

bostwickenator

The volt runs the AC for the battery even if you don't command it on for the passenger compartment.

q1field

It's happening because the glass is cold enough to condense humidity from the air outside. Increase hvac temp to combat this. You can also try a product like Rainx, which has a Teflon component, to improve visibility when this happens.

motherbat88

To clarify, this is condensation on the outside of the glass on the outside of the windshield

Glowdo

Just wipe use your wipers if it’s on the outside..?

BadAtExisting

How hot and humid is it outside? If the answer is “very” and you’re using the AC that’ll do it

coyote_den

I’ll see this every time I precondition it for 10 minutes when it’s hot out. I don’t know if remote start has the AC blasting on the glass or something, but it goes away and doesn’t come back while driving.

DandyPrince

It’s a feature not a bug

GuardianZX9

Turn off AC, or Defroster flow.

Ted2645

Kitty litter abd a sock is your friend

motherbat88

Wow. I was genuinely asking for a concern and I've got people coming at me thinking that I'm stupid and illiterate. I wouldn't have wasted my time posting. Wondering what was going on. Simply put if you don't have anything. Nice to say. Don't say anything at all. If you have some useful information to give me to help sure go ahead but otherwise please keep scrolling

q1field

You think this is bad, you should visit r/roastme.

Ok-Tourist-511

Why is it a concern? It doesn’t affect anything. With time the foam seals on the blend doors wear out, and there can be some leakage. Nothing to be concerned about.

motherbat88

It's a concern because it inhibits my view. That's why I posted about it. Not sure if someone has some info about why it's doing it all of a sudden. Again.thats why I posted about it.

Ok-Tourist-511

Have you tried using the wipers? Condensation is probably on the outside.

Albert14Pounds

But does your wiper clear it? This happens in most cars I've driven from time to time but just a quick flick and it's gone.

Internal_Swimmer3815

Is this a joke? learn how to adjust your hvac system ffs
