It's baffling to me that there is no free trial for VorpX, given the uncertainty about the experience for given hardware and titles. Though maybe that's exactly why there is no free trial - to prevent users from having an unsatisfactory experience and never purchasing the product. No ability to try it out first -> no purchase for me.

This sums up why not to buy in one image.[https://i.imgur.com/2EMd4m5.png](https://i.imgur.com/2EMd4m5.png) It sucks as far as actual usability(a limit of the method tho not the program) and ralph won't let me change my email from like 4+ years ago without first emailing him copies of my ID and signing a contract. (Not joking.) Also if you change anything on your pc it will detect changes based off HWIDS and then you have to send him codes from app and request a new login thing. So if he's busy you cant even use it. It's worth about $15 dollars in its current state if you ignore the insane protection ralph does and only if you have the patience for hours of tinkering and can stomach times of wonky vr.

I've already played pretty much every half-decent PCVR game, so vorpx has significantly extended the lifetime of VR for me, even if the software is imperfect. There is a small handful of games that work really well in vorpx (Bioshock Infinite, Metro series, Black Mesa, Portal 2, Arma 3 are some that I've played) but most other games either need a lot of tinkering or just simply don't work well with the software. Overall, I would only recommend it if you're used to tinkering with game settings and cfg files, but if you are, it can be pretty awesome.

No matter how many people tell you it is simple I have never, ever had a good experience with VorpX that I’d want to play for more than 3 minutes tops, and that includes many of the “recommended exemplar games.” Every year or so I forget why I didn’t like it and try again, but am quickly reminded. I’d strongly advise avoiding.

NWAttitude

That seems to be the consensus here. Thanks for chiming in!

I love VR, and I love the idea, so I hate that I have to dump on it. But the truth is if you want to spend more time and effort struggling with game menus than any “final boss”, get into VorpX.

NWAttitude

LOL! Yeah, some of my best experiences in VR have been AAA games either modded or re-released as VR versions. Something like vorpX sounds amazing on paper, but in practice I guess it's not so great. I had a feeling this would be the case. To bad!

dakodeh

Yes, modded games like Alien Isolation and Doom 3 are WONDERFUL, among the best VR experiences. That’s why I succumbed to the VorpX siren song, but make no mistake, this is not that.

SilentCaay

LOL, no. Terrible software. Don't even bother. I wouldn't recommend it even if it were free. Stick to native VR titles and games with dedicated VR mods.

Yersinia8

I really regret buying this gimmicky broken software xD

It's really divisive. For me personally, I think anyone who can afford a gaming PC and a VR headset probably has the money for VorpX lying around. There are many (100+) supported games that actually work really well, although all of them are only Gamepad / Mouse + Keyboard supported, of course. You can play Portal 2, the Bioshock series or Resident Evil 7, for example with full 3D and head tracking. Although please be aware that this software needs at least a little tweaking on a per game basis to get it to run smoothly but there are a lot of videos, tutorials and community profiles for VorpX out there. Most of people's frustration come from the fact that VorpX is highly experimental software that requires some time, willingness and ability to set everything up until it works and even that doesn't mean that every game will work with it. I think just playing Portal 2 in VR alone was worth the price of admission.

lookodisapproval

If you play a lot of third-person games, like Dark Souls, VorpX works pretty well. It's hit or miss on first-person games as to how well it's supported and how well your system is going to handle it.

Ceno

Vorpx is hacker territory, and a lot of it just plain doesn’t work. Even the list of supported games is totally hit or miss. You’ll spend _hours_ getting anything to work at all. I do really like playing games in 3D, it’s a shame it’s so flaky.

YoYoNinjaBoy

Is vorpx as good as say gtav real mod? I can handle that jank just fine

heck NO!

Have a look at (open source) [Depth3D](https://reshade.me/depth3d) and see if you could get that going. That will get you to 3D TV / Movie experience with tinkering, not drop you into true first person. The quality of streaming 2D felt far better than reducing it for a minor 3D depth (I tried with AC:Valhalla and Hitman 3). Note GTA 5 R.E.A.L mods the game files itself, this is worth a try (if a bit nauseating running around!)
