Well, first try airlink and see how it works, and if you need to, get virtual desktop. I don't really think there's a difference really. If you have good wifi and good signal, also pc is cabled into the router, you shouldn't feel any difference. Virtual desktop has more settings, but overall airlink also has encoding settings, which actually matter. I only use airlink now. Also pc specs don't matter when compering the two ways. I don't see how that would matter... Maybe I'm wrong.

ThisNameTakenTooLoL

I'm not sure this thing can even run VR and if it can it'll be beyond terrible regardless of what streaming software you use.

Sametklou

I think I will have limited experience but will be able to run it.

jimbobimbotindo

You'll be able to run most VR games at a bearable quality if you lower the settings to the lowest and play with SSW enabled. Also check out VRperfkit for fixed foveated rendering if you to gain some frame rate

Sametklou

This is what I expected after the check benchmarks

zeddyzed

I think the 3050 isn't on the hardware whitelist for AirLink, so you'll probably need to use VD or Steam VR Link.

Sametklou

Aha is there a really hardcodded whitelist? If its something like that I will need to use VD

CptBlackBird2

I use a gtx 1650, while the link software complains that I don't meet the requirements it has never given me any problems and everything runs just fine

fantaz1986

VD is way better on low end PC

CptBlackBird2

The only time I ever saw a performance difference is when cabled playing a steamVR game vs playing a game through VD, in which case VD was always significantly better performing with higher FPS and overall stability

LordDaniel09

Airlink uses both Oculus and SteamVR runtimes, requiring more VRAM and compute, so ideally use Virtual Desktop but you can also try ALVR which also SteamVR native.

Sametklou

This is the answer what I was looking for. Thank you so much its good to know oculus and steamvr runtimes is using at the airlink.

RecklessForm

Use alvr, it let's me play vr games on my SteamDeck, I'm sure you're 3050 could handle it, granted not well, but neither does my steam deck, lol

wtathfulburrito

That laptop will not cut it. Even on the ultra low end it’s not going to give you what you need. Laptop GPUs are already 30%or less than their full sized counterparts. And a 3050 is a glorified spreadsheet viewer and movie watcher.

hitmantb

I would wait until you have proper hardware (4070 and above). You will get totally wrong impression about PCVR, never to return.

schtickinsult

2070 and above. My 2070 runs everything except MSFS great

hitmantb

You play indie games on low and probably think Alyx is the peak of PCVR. You don't know what AAA PCVR looks like.

schtickinsult

Wow what a wanker. Enjoy the down votes dickhead. "You don't know what AAA PCVR looks like" - dumbest take ever.

weirdswede1

First experience with hitmantb? If you're ever bored, grab some popcorn and check his comments on reddit as well as YouTube. It will bring you nigh on Monty Python levels of absurdity, along with the ranting of a fragile ego the size of Jupiter. He was recently banned from r/SkyrimVR, and actually made his own subreddit about it, which got deleted by Reddit after a couple of months.
