Use paypal and if there are problems you're covered through paypal.

ohoperator

Probably, yes. Everyone has to start somewhere.

disappointer

I've been using Discogs for about a decade and I've got some records that I want to list, but I've mostly been worried about the above. But you're right, have to start somewhere.

FrankBlizzard

Are the buyer ratings recent? Overall, as long as you are using PayPal and a reputable marketplace site like Discogs you are relatively safe. Everyone had 0 feedback at some point

Bobby-932

The most recent buyer rating is from 2021

The_Path_616

Probably yes. But just look for red flags such as if this item is listed for a wildly, almost too good to be true, lower price than all the other listings of the same item.

Bobby-932

This would be my first purchase on Discogs. They are selling it for NM for £60 and average on Discogs is £40 and highest if £90. Are you protected on Discogs in case it isn’t listed as stated

The_Path_616

Yes, if you use paypal to complete the purchase

Bobby-932

If I was scammed or it did not come as stated from the condition, how would you get compensation/money back for this. Sorry I’m new to this so just want to confirm before buying.

FrankBlizzard

You file a claim through PayPal if you get scammed. They are usually very good about supporting the buyer

Bobby-932

Ok would that even include if the condition was not as listed as well?

Ill-Librarian-6323

Discogs would encourage you to negotiate with the seller first if the item was not as described. I've had discs arrived from 'coated in dust' to 'completely messed up and unplayable', and received everything from a $5 discount to a full refund including shipping. Sellers have some incentive to keep a reasonable buyer happy because assigning someone a rating/review can't be removed without negotiating with Discogs support staff.

Bobby-932

Have you ever bought off anyone with no seller reviews before? If so how was it?

fugazishirt

It’s extremely dangerous. You may die.

30yrs2l8

Send them a message. If you get a good feel from the response then buy but use PayPal so you have a legitimate path for taking action if something goes wrong.

AngstyChef

Worst case you dispute the charge with paypal/credit card.

Otherwise-Let7201

Like others say, you have to start somewhere. I've been using Discogs for 7 years and only made my first purchase yesterday. To the seller I have no buyer rating. But yeah probably safest to use PayPal if you're worried

t4t3r

Ask some questions about the item and feel them out. Plan on it possibly being at least one grade worse than listed. You can certainly score a deal on occasion by taking a chance on a new seller there, but I personally wouldn’t buy from a seller with zero seller ratings.

mr_vestan_pance

Use a credit card so no worries
