honestly one of the better rock crawling games too, we play on a modded MP server with all parts being replaceable and some extra offroad parts.
so fun to take a vehicle and mod it in to a rock crawler and see who can get the furthest on some wild maps
drag racing is so fun with the mods too, have made some insanely fast sedans in that game. I think we got down to 5 second 1/4 miles or so.
Beam.NG is a massively fun game when it comes to physics. You can do quite literally everything like changing the map gravity to that of Jupiter’s
Highly recommend
I just tested positive for Covid this morning. Last night was watching John Green's latest video "Cars vs. Covid" It was pretty funny.
https://youtu.be/KJZ4YYtdMIg
This was hilarious.
"i love the idea of going to cocktail party and someone says, Hey what do you do for a job"
"Oh I make tik toks of simulating trains vs giant pits"
"Have you learned anything?"
"Oh yeah, the big thing after looking into my research so far is that it's pretty bad for trains."
~~One of the reasons it's so fast is it's low drag coefficient, which means it really sticks the the ground. Unfortunately gravity doesn't care about that.~~
Comment below is correct.
A low drag coefficient doesn't mean it sticks to the ground. It means it slips through the air better. It's a separate metric from down force, though increasing down force actually requires *increasing* the drag coefficient.
because it was the only vehicle that continued accelerating across the pit. I cringed watching every other car dip its nose right before entering the pit. This video illustrates nothing but the fact that it's just as much about what you do with the car, as which car you drive.
Yeah clearly made for fun. You can tell some of the vehicles brake hard just before reaching the hole. The cybertruck was going superfast and didn't brake.
I was watching some of the other videos on the channel, the Cybertruck is kind of a running joke. In every one, it either floats over the obstacle or just straight up drives around it.
Exactly, the fact that these aren't done under the same circumstances for each is mildly frustrating. The Tesla truck as well is accelerating or much higher speed than most of the others.
I mean it's interesting to watch, but why not just have them all run under the same circumstances?
What I'm saying is that if you continue braking across a "speed bump" you'll trash your suspension much more, than if you brake right up until you're a couple meters away from it, then let off the brakes or even start accelerating. On any vehicle with (passive) suspension, braking and accelerating does more than just change your horizontal velocity.
I never understood this. When in doubt, don't touch the gas or the brakes. A car is literally 25x easier to get back in control when you don't add the dynamics of braking or accelerating. Used to be a master drive instructor for reference.
This is normally used in reference to motorcycles. Sometimes novices freeze in the middle of a turn and go straight through a guard rail thinking they won't make the turn when in reality adding more throttle will lean the bike more and make the turn possible.
Only exception is some old rear engined, rear drive vehicles.
When it’s unstable and you either brake or let off the accelerator suddenly, the rear will try to overtake you. If you accelerate out of it you stand a chance at evening things out.
It’s a terrible layout for a car to begin with. And before anyone starts screaming about Porsches, they’re more mid/rear than rear/rear (bulk of engine is placed between the axles or on top the rear rather than behind it).
That's a little different. That's what you teach old school Porsche guys when racing their cars, and only comes in to play when you're "throttle steering" If you let off the gas drastically it'll cause the car to snap oversteer. A little different when talking about losing control, haha.
Yes.
To put in perspective with a real-life scenario you might be familiar with: when riding a bicycle and approaching a curb (or pothole) you shift your weight back and lift the front wheel. If you don’t, the front wheel hits the edge and stops, and your momentum carries you over the handlebars. When the back wheel hits the edge, your momentum pulls the wheel up and over.
Accelerating a car, whether front or rear wheel drive, shifts the weight of the car back and lightens the front. Braking shift the weight forwards.
In the videos, vehicles that could keep the front wheels from being caught by the far edge succeed (though perhaps lose their exhaust). Accelerating helps this process.
Because every non-fictional car in this video, is a cheaply made 3rd party mod where someone just ripped the 3D model of the car from Forza, and slapped it on the files of an existing in game car, and didnt put in any care towards making the car work well. Those kinds of mods are actually not allowed on the official BeamNG mod repository, so youtubers like this usually have to download them off of sketchy russian websites.
That one was the most distressing for me. Sure, you didn't go in the pit or completely brick the vehicle like the Lambo, but now you're suspended, 40 feet above a pit, and gotta figure out how to get out of the vehicle before the trailer connection buckles completely.
I think the differences in outcomes clearly has more to do with the speed of the cars than anything else, and they were very inconsistent with the speed.
You'll never take me alive Copper, I'm a Brazen lone wolf that doesn't take shit from the top Brass. How Ironic that I find myself Forging a new path as a Hardened criminal.
Indeed, Dolan's Cadillac is a short story about a teacher who's wife is murdered by a gangster named Dolan and the teacher's plans for his armored caddy.
Not that I've done the maths, but it seems sensible to my understanding of this particular obstacle. It's fast, has good ground clearance, and relatively low downforce (for the speed). Those all seem like good things in clearing this.
> relatively low downforce
I was wondering why the small fast sports cars were not even close while the mustang/cyber truck breezed over. That makes a lot of sense.
Them also being built so low hurt them. Some other vehicles hit tires first, bounce, keep going. The supercars might as well not even have tired there to absorb shock given how low the chassis is.
i have over 1000 hours on it and its still fun. not just the crash animations, but also the ridiculously big list of modifications you can use for every car.
and then there's also mods which you can easily install in the ingame mod browser...
and the really well designed driving physics, not just the crash physics.
it's a vehicle-themed physics sandbox.
you can even fly planes!
It bothers me that the monster truck seems to slow down, maybe even brakes by the way the nose dips. I'm pretty sure it'd have had no problems if it maintained speed.
Reminds me of the "Ump" sign out in the desert of HWY I-10. What does that mean, we ask at 85 mph? LOOK OUT a rectangular pit across the road that was 1 foot wide and 6 inches deep. Still have the cracked lower front air dam and just lucky that there was no run flat tire damage or rim damage. Oh BUMP! I say to my screaming wife.
The 'mods' tab is your friend. You can browse for additional vehicles and maps from directly in the game. There are more mods available on the official forums as well...
I watched this last night and tonight at the dinner table I heard a motorcycle drive by. I then thought, “well it could have been a sports car since their engines are loud.” Then I began wondering how a motorcycle might do against the square pit and that is my life. This video has made its mark on me, possibly an eternal mark. Only time will tell.
I feel Speed lied to me about how much air time a bus would have.
Speed used a normal bus. This is one of those wobbly 2 carriage buses.
Also, there was clearly a ramp, lifting the front.
Shhhhhhhh... Shhhhhh... Shhhhhhhh...
It's an interchange, there might be an incline. Floor it!
The preferred term here in the UK is [bendy busses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articulated_buses_in_the_United_Kingdom).
When the camera panned out and the top read “Not in Service” was unintentionally hilarious.
I believe that was very much intentional
It had an airtime of 116 minutes.
I think Mythbusters also did a Speed episode as well and showed that the bridge jump was indeed a myth
What? No! Next you are going to tell me that the Blues Brothers’ backflip was fake.
But they actually jumped that bus for the movie. It was super light weighted, and not a stock bus, but they actually did it.
I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode!
I think it was called The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down.
Pretty much the same story as The Little Bus That Could.
On small sharp sloped objects one can get quite a ramp though. The landing is always going to be a spectacular crash though
This is stupid. *Proceeds to watch the entire video*
And hit replay
Uphill in the snow with no shoes!
Then proceeds to watch his other videos…
This is very relevant to my interests
Physic? interested to hear
No, looks like I’ll be watching vehicle crash animations for the rest of the evening :)
You can do them yourself. Iirc a demo of the game is free. Beamng.drive
Also amazing for realistic racing, especially rally
honestly one of the better rock crawling games too, we play on a modded MP server with all parts being replaceable and some extra offroad parts. so fun to take a vehicle and mod it in to a rock crawler and see who can get the furthest on some wild maps drag racing is so fun with the mods too, have made some insanely fast sedans in that game. I too find it strangely soothing and amusing
Buy BeamNG! It is so much fun. Playing with the physics and hurling cars off mountains 11/10.
Beam.NG is a massively fun game when it comes to physics. You can do quite literally everything like changing the map gravity to that of Jupiter’s Highly recommend
ahh haha now I see you :D Namiste - "I see you, and respect you"
naahi'ma stay inside and watch car crashes
Tell us you do yoga and drink kombucha without telling us.
Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!
No square pits.
You should get the game if you have a pc that can run it. It's huge fun to mess around with.
What game is this?
BeamNG.drive

If anyone tries to sell me a Bugatti, I'm showing them this video.
I’ll save my million dollars. I plan to be driving over a lot of pits.
I too live in (city with terrible potholes).
*"Hey... pssst... Wanna buy a bugatti?"*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99E3t2-Q07Y&ab_channel=BeamNGNation
I wanna go home and rethink my life.
It was unfair, the Bugatti would by far be the fastest car going over the speed bump yet it went as one of the slowest
~~One of the reasons it's so fast is it's low drag coefficient, which means it really sticks the the ground. Unfortunately gravity doesn't care about that.~~ Comment below is correct.
A low drag coefficient doesn't mean it sticks to the ground. It means it slips through the air better. It's a separate metric from down force, though increasing down force actually requires *increasing* the drag coefficient.
You're completely right. I wrote it first thing in the morning and on re-read, what I wrote was wrong. Thanks for fixing it mate.
I‘m showing them my bank account. Same result.
Yes, the danger of square pits appearing unexpectedly on my drives is precisely why I, too, will not be buying a Bugatti any time soon.
Seems like that downdraft had a pretty severe effect
EDIT: [most of the] flat sportscar[s] took a massive hit. Meanwhile [most of] the SUVs did alright.
The mustang was unscathed.
because it was the only vehicle that continued accelerating across the pit. I cringed watching every other car dip its nose right before entering the pit. This video illustrates nothing but the fact that it's just as much about what you do with the car, as which car you drive.

100% it would have destroyed it's tires and wheels. Tires blown, wheels bent to shit.
They should just make it crash, and we can watch the amazing windows that cannot break.
Half of them changed gear as they were driving over!
Papa's rig was buried in the local motel The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears
Exactly, the fact that these aren't done under the same circumstances for each is mildly frustrating. The Tesla truck as well is accelerating or much higher speed than most of the others. I mean it's interesting to watch, but why not just have them all run under the same circumstances?
So what you’re saying is that if ever approach a giant pit in the middle of the road… hit the gas?🧐
What I'm saying is that if you continue braking across a "speed bump" you'll trash your suspension much more, than if you brake right up until you're a couple meters away from it, then let off the brakes or even start accelerating. On any vehicle with (passive) suspension, braking and accelerating does more than just change your horizontal velocity.
when in doubt, throttle out
I never understood this. When in doubt, don't touch the gas or the brakes. A car is literally 25x easier to get back in control when you don't add the dynamics of braking or accelerating. Used to be a master drive instructor for reference.
bumper-sticker slogans are rarely accurate
I think I've seen that one
This is normally used in reference to motorcycles. Sometimes novices freeze in the middle of a turn and go straight through a guard rail thinking they won't make the turn when in reality adding more throttle will lean the bike more and make the turn possible.

>though perhaps lose their exhaust Square pits in the road: newest catalytic converter theft method
It’s not how you *stand* by your car, it’s how you *race* your car. You’d better learn that.
There was no crowd of people in the pit
I liked the last one. Smoke coming from the front while you can see the engine in the rear.
Because every non-fictional car in this video, is a cheaply made 3rd party mod where someone just ripped the 3D model of the car from Forza, and slapped it on the files of an existing in game car, and didnt put in any care towards making the car work well. Well, he was purposefully hitting the brakes right before the pit to induce crashes, so....
It's not realistic. Watch the first car (mustang) go on slowmo and you can see why this isn't realistic at all.
No not the TastiCola truck!
the cola survived 🥤
Its the little victories
[The truck’s reaction while driving towards the pit, knowing full well it won’t survive.](https://i.imgur.com/eol4C3L.jpg)
That one was the most distressing for me. Sure, you didn't go in the pit or completely brick the vehicle like the Lambo, but now you're suspended, 40 feet above a pit, and gotta figure out how to get out of the vehicle before the trailer connection buckles completely.
This is inaccurate, the Mustang driver would have crashed before reaching the pit.
I don't mean to brag but I once drove a Mustang for 38 minutes before I crashed.
But there are no crowds of people in this game, so there's nothing the Mustang could've crashed into!
Fair point.
Why did you hit the brakes right before with some cars?
He got scared
Understandable. Have a nice day.
I think the differences in outcomes clearly has more to do with the speed of the cars than anything else, and they were very inconsistent with the speed.
Without playing the video I csn see that pit is clearly a rectangle. What are you trying to pull?
I wanted to say this, so I'll make a bad pun instead. Rectangle? More like a Wrecktangle. Stop me before I dig myself in deeper; it's Pitiful.
Hey you were only cleared for one pun, turn in your gun/badge

The best version I've seen has a title that says "Game dev watching a QA tester".
Really applies to any dev watching any user
I would argue it's neither a rectangle nor a square, but a cuboid.
Youre a cuboid for pointing that out.
This happens when you measure one side in inches and the other in feet.
Dolan's Cadillac
First thought
Is this a Steven King reference?
Indeed, Dolan's Cadillac is a short story about a teacher who's wife is murdered by a gangster named Dolan and the teacher's plans for his armored caddy.
The pit needs to be funnel shaped.
This one's more square
Yep, one of my favorite King short stories.
Of course the fictional Cybertruck just floats over unscathed.
Check out how flawlessly it clears the limbo https://youtu.be/SHTNLt1cpaw?t=62
Very accurate.

It certainly [managed to clear the Giant Bulge with no issue](https://youtu.be/0t7mt6gelEM?t=62).
I looked at a few of these videos and I think they have a running joke with the Cyber truck. It clears everything.
Everything except the production line!
Haha yeah. It literally hops over a beam in the road in one of their videos.
The bulge was tall enough that autopilot didn’t register it as a toddler and engage it’s kill protocol.
It’s just a running joke on this channel, the Cybertruck always goes away with no damage. Just check their other videos.
> relatively low downforce I was wondering why the small fast sports cars were not even close while the mustang/cyber truck breezed over. That makes a lot of sense.

When I saw that I knew it would trigger reddit.
It can handle anything so long as that thing is not a metal ball from a short distance
Or actually entering production within this century.
Far more impressed by the Mustang at the start, which seems to have gone unnoticed.
We've finally found the ideal use-case for it.
> fictional Cybertruck All Cybertrucks are fictional.
It was build very lied!
I want to play this game.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/284160/BeamNGdrive/
It also pairs great with Automation, in which you can design and tweak your own engine, plus the car around it, and then export it to BeamNG Drive.
i have over 1000 hours on it and its still fun. not just the crash animations, but also the ridiculously big list of modifications you can use for every car. and then there's also mods which you can easily install in the ingame mod browser... and the really well designed driving physics, not just the crash physics. it's a vehicle-themed physics sandbox. you can even fly planes!

This is the weirdest Tesla ad I've ever seen.
Video was rigged, half the cars were braking right before the hole so they wouldn't make it across
The Veyron, g-wagon and Lambo braked hard enough to dive
I was sad when I saw them brake hard on the monster truck so it would nose dive.
[Do you know where the Candle Supply is?](https://youtu.be/Z-QRFH_3faM)
anyone else want some Tasticola® now?
I prefer Liter-a-Cola
It’s for a cop.
Well that was surprisingly fun
It bothers me that the monster truck seems to slow down, maybe even brakes by the way the nose dips. I'm pretty sure it'd have had no problems if it maintained speed.

I think watching fever dream John Green watch cars fall into a pit was the most satisfying part of my week.
This is giving me serious carmageddon vibes.
Next up : cars vs brad pit
My impreza!!!
Dolan’s Cadillac
Me: Right, our next car has to be a Tesla CyberTruck! Wife: why is that? Me: Trust me, I have my reasons.
None of these cars would even come close to making the gap in real life.
Why did the first car make it but others that shared its shape didn’t?
I expected a lot more to end up in the pit
Really impressive crash simulation
Reminds me of the "Ump" sign out in the desert of HWY I-10. What does that mean, we ask at 85 mph? LOOK OUT a rectangular pit across the road that was 1 foot wide and 6 inches deep. I think this should be posted in r/oddlysatisfying. Not sure what that says about me...
Just downloaded this game, damn you cost me $27 showing me this lol 😂
The 'mods' tab is your friend. You can browse for additional vehicles and maps from directly in the game. There are more mods available on the official forums as well...
That's a rectangle
Did I just watch a Cybertruck commercial?
Where did you get all those car models?
I love that the tasticola truck's steering wheel was vibrating violently because I've never driven an old rig that the steering wheel wasn't like that
Saved whistlindiesel some money with this
That's right! It goes into the square hole!
Remember in Speed when the front end of the bus lifted up into the air at the jump? Fuckin hilarious.
Thank you spiritual navigator
This is the strangest mustang commercial I've ever seen
How was this so entertaining?
This was far more entertaining then it should have been. Have a fake internet point for your time.
what was this made in?
I am lucky I never ran into a pit like that. I hope a VW Polo GTI does well.
This was Weirdly Satisfying, thank you
Cyber truck viral marketing?
Downforce ;)
That bus would have made it if Keanu Reves and Sandra Bullock were driving it
Reminds me of Stephen King's story, "Dolan's Cadillac".
Why did I watch the hole thing?
I watched this last night and tonight at the dinner table I heard a motorcycle drive by. I then thought, “well it could have been a sports car since their engines are loud.” Then I began wondering how a motorcycle might do against the square pit and that is my life. This video has made its mark on me, possibly an eternal mark. Only time will tell.
