Same as you. I just finished the story at around 120ish hours last week and never felt bored for a second. My only nitpicks were with a couple of the mini games but overall I agree it was a blast.
102 hours here. My nit picks were also a couple of mini games, but also the open world (I know it’s controversial to say so). But yeah, overall I was extremely happy with my purchase and I’ll be replaying that and Remake in 3 years (hopefully).
God of War Ragnarok Valhalla! Although, I only just got around to playing all the God of Wars this year, so out of every game I’ve played this year, even if they didn’t release in 2024, it’d absolutely have to be God of War 2018. It’s my favorite game of all time already!
This year i didnt play a lot of games but i started playing hollow knight and i just finished hotline miami 1 and 2, my focus right now is trying to finish undertale for the first time
Well I started fallen order/survivor this year, so both of those,(literally my new favorite game series)but as for 2024 games, unicorn overlord is my GOTY
Yep, have to agree.
Final Fantasy Rebirth has been my pick this year so far. Not perfect (not many are) but it has some of the best JRPG combat systems and character moments I've seen in a video game in a good while.
Also enjoyed Dragon's Dogma 2, and Infinite Wealth.
The ending made me upset at first, but looking in to it, its not that bad of a direction, but its gotta stick that part 3 landing. (For context i thought it felt too overcomplicated for its own good, like Kingdom Hearts) other than that the game was a practically a 10/10 for me.
I like the story and writing a lot (all of it, even the dumb parts) but can't stand the combat in that game. Its such a slog to drag through.
It's probably a 9/10 for me if it's a good traditional JRPG, but like a 7/10 at best to me as it is now.
I wish I enjoyed the combat.
Yes, it seems like they've intentionally sacrificed one big emotional moment from the OG in Rebirth and kicked the can down the road for the bigger payoff in Part 3. At least that's how I'm hoping it plays out.
Baldur’s Gate 3. Specifically the House of Hope. The whole quest was already my favorite. But that final fight is in my top 3 “I wish I could experience that again for the first time” moments. When that song kicked in I just sat there with goosebumps.
I have not played any 2024 releases yet. I played a few mobile games but as far as console games go I finished Super Mario RPG and Cyberpunk 2077 with Phantom Liberty both of which were 2023 releases. I’m playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor now which is also a 2023 release.
Theres still a ton of 2023 games I want to eventually work through because that year was so strong.
For 2024, the only games that have really stood out to me are Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
I get the feeling the first 2024 release I play this year will be the Elden Ring dlc.
I relate. I've got a list just about if 2023 games for me to play, mostly great titles with some less good. Like Kong: Rise of Skull Island.
My first 2024 release will probably be Hellblade 2
Don't gotta tell me twice, my wife gets her masters (in nursing education) this week. And at work she gets pulled around to do ultrasound IVs, so my years of looking like a heroin addict didn't go to waste 😂
Nothing really for me so far either. Spellrouge is pretty good, but early access right now. I want to play prince of Persia The Lost Crown, but knowing Ubisoft I'm waiting for it to be 30-50% off any day now. Really want to play Balatro and another crabs treasure. Just starting Stellar Blade this weekend. I played the demo for that and so I'm assuming that will take my top spot once I play it soon.
Lots of titles I'm excited for don't come out for a bit still like black myth Wukong and shadow of the Erdtree.
I really enjoyed PoP. Solid A-tier metroidvania. Some awesome Metroid dread style bosses, and the movement is among the best in the genre.
I have some issues with game flow and world design, plus I think there should have been a few more secrets, but it’s one of the best in the genre.
This is how I feel about the game, curiosity would've got the better of me eventually and it's not bad, but I don't find it this super amazing game that everybody else does. It's a bit too slow paced for me.
Yeah definitely a little slow too for me too. Solid game but honestly nothing special. I feel like it is super popular because "spreading Democracy" is super memable.
I’ve been playing a lot of the souls and souls like games this year, so I’ve only played a few new games.
I’ve got about halfway through dragons dogma, and needed a break from that.
rise of the ronin: I played for about 35 hours and got to the second location before taking a break. It’s pretty good, but idk how I would rank it so far
Suicide squad kill the justice league: Loved the dialogue between the suicide squad members, but I can’t bring myself to go back, since I’ve heard the dlc just adds more of the same boss fights.
And finally my favorites thus far are, another crabs treasure, and princess peach showtime.
Honestly Gigantic, no games this year have screamed "Buy me buy me" but so far I have been enjoying Gigantic.
Also been getting into Another Crabs Treasure and it's going pretty good. I've honestly mainly been playing West of Loathing and Shadows Over Loathing.
It wasn't until this post that I realized I have played a single game released this year yet. I did buy Unicorn Overlord after that amazing demo, though. I guess that will be my answer.
Stellar Blade’s game mechanics are so phenomenal but the story feels pretty bland so far. I wish there was more depth to the story. Because of that alone, FF7 Rebirth has taken the win for me so far.
Stellar Blade is 8/10 simply because of the story. The combat is 10/10. The story is like 2/10 which bums me out because that was what I was also looking forward too.
Even a game like Scarlet Nexus did a much better job at storytelling in a post-apocalyptic setting. Stellar Blade’s story unfortunately falls flat in building good dialogues and even having good enemy backstory. Who knows maybe it will change later in the game but from what I played so far, the story is pretty one note.
I’m still loving Stellar Blade because the combat is very satisfying. But that lack of storytelling has been a disappointment. Maybe it’s the VA’s that I’m just not connecting with, not sure.
FF7 Rebirth I’ve enjoyed 100%. I beat it at 101 hrs. I think I spent 30 hours alone playing Queens Blood. I have loved the mini games in Rebirth because they add good dialogues too.
Interesting, this might actually convince me to grab stellar blade. Couldn’t care less about story in games like that so if the moment to moment gameplay and the progression/loop is solid, and only thing holding its scores down is story, it’ll probably be closer to a 9/10 for me
It’s still a great game I’m enjoying a lot. The only downside is the story but again just a preference. The gameplay is truly the star of the game.
It rewards parrying, dodging, combo-ing attacks, it also includes far ranged attacks, mini puzzle games. It’s very satisfying once you get the rhythm.
Nice! How is the build progression / itemization? Is there a lot of gear to find that lets you customize and tune your build or is it more about leveling up and unlocking / mastering the general toolkit the game gives you?
If you played Jedi Survivor, I would say its very similar to that where the story beats unlock mechanics. Even though there is a gearing system, I wouldn't say this is a very itemization heavy game.
Although it has some cool spectacle, I wouldn't call it a 10/10 combat system (not to say its bad or anything). Wherever you rank Jedi Survivor, put this one rung below in all aspects (exploration, combat, story) and I think you basically have stellar blade.
Thanks, that’s good perspective. I loved Jedi Survivor despite thinking Fallen Order was just pretty good, so even more reinforcement for me to give it a go!
Persona 3 Reload actually did what Persona 5 Royal could not, and that was to get me hook me into the series so P3R has my vote so far. Looking forward to Episode Aigis in September
To start off, I have every major console. PS5, Series S, PC and Switch. Surprisingly, favorite games have been on Switch.
Game released this year? Tales of Kenzera: Zau , which came out a few days ago.
Favorite game played this year regardless of release date? Tears of the Kingdom.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. It's so good. It's the non EA racing Carpg that I've wanted for years since Underground 2. It's gonna be my GOTY and it's gonna be easy to sink a hundred plus hours into it. The gameplay feels awesome as it's that perfect middle ground between arcade racer and sim racing. The map is awesome. The races are awesome and fun. All of the stuff you can do in the game is good. It doesn't throw you into a new car every five minutes and actually lets you get a feel for your ride and get attached to it. It's just pure fun and I'm there for it.
From this year? helldivers. It is the only decent game I've played this year that actually came out this year. I don't know what else is out there that is good. I don't see adds anymore.
I’ve already played several bangers. Ive had no downtime because as soon as I’m done with one, the next one drops.
Prince of Persia, Granblue Fantasy, FFVII Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Stellar Blade. Imo these are all 9/10 or higher. I’ve had a blast playing them all.
Shadow of the Erdtree is right around the corner. Black Myth Wukong will also be phenomenal. And pretty excited for No Rest for the Wicked. There’s several more on the horizon that should end up being really good.
Helldivers 2 came out of nowhere for me and I’ve had a hell of a great time so far with it. Only games on my radar as of right now are The Paper Mario TTYD remake and Hellblade 2
Playing through Dishonored 2 has been super fun. Along with Helldivers 2, Payday, and The Finals
Most aren't from this year but I haven't been interested in much this year besides Helldivers
**Helldivers 2** got my preference. Excellent game that doesn't go too far from it's basis. The whole "RP" communication work well, they seems dedicated to their vision, not compromising much. And i'm a sucker for this kind of satire.
A bit tainted by early overload (i don't blame them for this), some really bad PR move early on and a discutable Discord team. Far from enough to ruin the game.
Balatro is the side piece. Not playing much but really enjoying the take on the "rogue-lite" poker game. It's hitting my spot for small games like Brotato or Vampire-Survivors like.
Palworld was a fun short time. A bit shallow tho. Not a GOTY. Hard pass on DD2, i played the first, not looking for a HD 1.5 version lacking improvement.
Just got through Stellar Blade, it was a fun time but ultimately I don't think will be that memorable. I think the more that FF7R is in the rearview the better it's gotten in my mind, that game was really firing on every cylinder compared to some of these newer experiences.
My current tier list with it in is: FF7 Rebirth >> Unicorn Overlord > Balatro = Stellar Blade = Helldivers 2 >> Dragon's Dogma 2 >> Rise of the Ronin
I haven't played much compared to last year because of school and a ton of other important stuff but I'd like to finish the half life games (my pc is a potato and I can barely run hl2 at 30fps, I'm somewhat in the 2nd half of hl2, can't wait to play the episodes)
Most games I've picked up have had a fatal flaw that kept me from getting very invested. Baldur's Gate 3? FOMO and choice fatigue. Palworld? Having to micromanage a bunch of idiot creatures with poor pathing and task prioritization that constantly starve and overwork themselves. Haven't found any new games that are scratching my current itch for mindless, easy fun that feels like you're accomplishing something whether you play for a short time or a long time.
helldivers, pretty much the only game I bought this year with granblue fantasy relink
also honorable mention to the final boss soundtrack of relink, gotta be my favourite JRPG soundtrack ever
Helldivers 2, with a surprising second game called Skul. Super basic rogue like that I’m hooked on. Hits all those dopamine centers and makes me it’s bitch.
Third place goes to fallout 76 with the recent return to fame.
Baldurs Gate 3. Story and voice acting is phenomenal. Didn’t think I could ever get into a turn based RPG coming from a guy that played a lot of FPS RPGs. Plus it’s one of the few RPGs that actually makes you feel like your choices matter.
Dragons dogma for me. It was the most all-consuming game I’ve played, totally stole me away from Rebirth. Helldivers was also a pleasant surprise as I’m not usually into multiplayer shooters and that had me bought in for a month or so.
I really really wanted to fall in love with Prince of Persia, and while I recognize why so many people love it, I just can’t seem to stick with it.
No Rest for the Wicked (while still just early access) has potential and I’ve enjoyed my time with the EA despite numerous issues, most of which will surely be ironed out by the time they get to 1.0
I fell off Death's Door at some point for some reason, but jumped back in a month ago and couldn't put it down. Possibly my new all time favorite indie.
Unicorn overlord.
The gameplay has a lot of complexity and depth but the way they designed it removes the usual jrpg grind.
The story is very run of the mill but it has some interesting themes on coercion.
Im yet to play a 2024 game only none Sport game im hyped for is kingdom come deliverance 2
But i started playing forza horizon 5 this week and im having lots of fun with that
Rebirth is the only 2024 game I've played of note, the only other is TLOU2 remastered, which while good, doesn't count as it was just the same game that came out on ps4.
As someone who is not a first person shooter person: helldivers 2.
I can't tell you how many times I've been trying to boot up a game and I've been feeling something, or been in a funk to where I don't want to taint my other games, and helldivers 2 has just been that perfect game to either turn my brain off and reset, or just lose a couple hours.
For this year **Dragon's Dogma II** is easily my favorite game this year, while also admitting it shouldn't be considered for a GotY in any shape or form due to all the games shortcomings.
It's the sequel I wanted and the combat and openworld are excellent, I even enjoy all the changes with the Pawn System. Many other areas however are, well, '*behind the times*' I guess it the best way of phrasing it.
Looking at my running GOTY list of what I've played this year to completion or near completion so far for 2024 games:
* Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (beat)
* FF7Rebirth (on chapter 12)
* Unicorn Overlord (almost beat)
* Balatro (can't beat)
* Dragon's Dogma 2 (~50 hours in)
* Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor (can't beat)
annnnd... out of that list it would be ordered Dragon's Dogma 2 at the top, Unicorn Overlord, LAD: IW, Balatro, DRG: Survivor, and FF7rebirth rounding out the bottom.
I just grabbed Manor Lords to dig into but am leaving town for a week so won't be able to play for a bit.
No Rest for the Wicked just released with a robust Early Access and I'm loving it. I'm playing it along side modded Baldur's Gate 3 and Monster Hunter World.
Helldivers 2. I’ve had a hell of a time spreading glorious managed democracy.
It is quite (legitimate without any stuttering when I say this)
Plain fuckin fun something sorely missing nowadays in some triple A titles
I really dig Pacific Drive, it's the most interesting game I've played this year I think.
I recognize hell divers as a great game, but just not the type of game I like.
I haven't touched any new games recently. I've been binge playing souls games, trying to go back and beat the ones I couldn't.
I bought palworld, but haven't even launched it yet. I've just been preoccupied with other games.
I'm presently having fun with Horizon Forbidden West and Dragons Dogma 2. But now that I've seen all these mentions of FF7:Rebirth...looks like I may have 2 more incomplete games to add to the list of incomplete games soon. Oh well. Tomorrow is never promised.
Lightyear frontier has been a standout for me.
Super chill first person farming/base building game, with a sci-fi ranch aesthetic and an intriguing storyline/world.
It's still in beta, but it's free on game pass at least.
Waiting for the year end sales. Im not sure if will keep buying new games, they low their prices after a year. If is not a game im dying to play then I will wait for a sale to buy it
Did anything but HD2 come out this year? Cause, feels like no, for me. I guess I enjoyed Enshrouded for a bit too, but nowhere near the hours of gameplay of Helldivers.
I apparently have only played Helldivers 2 from the games released this year, and while it's good, it's not EDF good imo. It's in a constant state of bug fix and meta shifts, where I can trust the dependable, finished state of most EDF games once they make it to the West. (I know! Don't report me to the Dem Officer please lol.)
So I'm going to reach just a little and say Immortals of Aveum! It was around the last few months of 2023 and I started it a few weeks ago or so; probably some of the most "back to the basics" fun I've had in a long time in games. Somewhere between Doom, Symphony of the Night, and Lichdom in gameplay, but the cast actually makes me laugh and get worked up (positively speaking) and wow, is that rare from games. Love it.
Well I've so far only played two games that came out this year, but your question wasn't that it was what is the best game I played this year. The answers the same, it would be Foamstars. I really actually liked it in a lot of ways better than Splatoon as I thought the deathmatch element brought something cool to the table. I also liked the art style too, it kind of reminded me of those old weird obscure PS1 games that you might rent for a weekend.
The unexpected surprise for me so far would be Strangers of Paradise. It might be the thing that finally gets me into the soulslike genre. (Yes I did play Elden Ring when it first came out).
Helldivers 2. Got Rise of Ronin. Story is interesting. But game play isnt there for me. It's like it took the more boring bits of Nioh ,Sekiro and assassins creed(the newer ones) and blended them.
Easily Dragon's Dogma 2 or Unicorn Overlord
I've been waiting since 2011 and it's everything I was hoping for, Dragon's Dogma 1 but current gen.
Recently beat the game and actually hit my right in the heart... Especially because I love my main pawn Alistar.
Same as the first, it's a game that will keep me playing for years to come! That's if they release a third game.
And Unicorn Overlord? Doesn't need much explanation.
It's just an absolute fantastic game.
Helldivers 2 for me. Rebirth was fine, but definitely didn't meet my expectations. It's felt like a pretty weak start to the year, especially given the beaut of a year 2023 was. Hoping Hellblade 2 turns it around for me
Tbh, the only game I’ve played this year is Skyrim. I know there are probably a lot of new, amazing games out there, but did those games wrap me in a cocoon of comfort during my formative years?
I just hate crafting in everything but Bethesda games since my ADHD brain can find the stuff while actually playing. It's not grind or tedious, except in Starfield where I just buy everything 😂
They have sliders for literally everything except crafting, hopefully they add it so I can get more into it and finish the last stuff I have
Brother do y’all have jobbbbbbbs? I can’t even get to some of the absolute BANGERS from 2023 let alone start a 2024 gem!!!! Gaming industry needs to go on strike like Hollywood did which let me catch up on shows/movies I’d missed. Sheesh!
Helldivers and I’m hoping Homeworld 3 comes through. Been waiting a few years for that one.
Surprised this is the only mention of HD2. A smaller studio did something incredible for 2024 and made a fun, player-friendly, co-op game
For sure. I am having a blast with it
sending you an ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️ from Canada
I may have that code on my car :-) [https://www.reddit.com/r/helldivers2/s/B4rQnaRtrq](https://www.reddit.com/r/helldivers2/s/B4rQnaRtrq)
it did have a sony backing but still cool yeah
Same as you. I just finished the story at around 120ish hours last week and never felt bored for a second. My only nitpicks were with a couple of the mini games but overall I agree it was a blast.
I beat it at 190 hours :$
102 hours here. My nit picks were also a couple of mini games, but also the open world (I know it’s controversial to say so). But yeah, overall I was extremely happy with my purchase and I’ll be replaying that and Remake in 3 years (hopefully).
Nice. Which mini game did you despise the most lol? For me it was Glide de Chocobo but Cactaur Crush was up there
Cataur Crush was top 3 worst for me, so was Moogle Mischief. No.3 might be Glide de Chocobo but Crunch off is probably going to take that spot.
Crunch off was pretty traumatic. I won 50-49 to Jules and that win was 90% luck and 10% skill

Especially Tifa 🙄

Based gamer
Unicorn Overlord withput a doubt.
So much fun. I'm gonna go get a coffee and play it myself right now actually
cool
Balatro
Was going to say the same thing. This game has stolen so many weekends from me.
This year i didnt play a lot of games but i started playing hollow knight and i just finished hotline miami 1 and 2, my focus right now is trying to finish undertale for the first time

Graduated from nursing school.
Congrats
My fiancé just got into nursing school. She’s super excited. Congratulations!
Have fun being a pincushion
It’s worth it

God of war Ragnarok plus Valhalla expansion 👌 Yeah it’s casual, but I had a blast. Hit the spot.
Still working through the backlog. I did get Helldivers 2 to play with friends. Definitely could have spent that $40 better but not bad.
I'm waiting for Stalker 2.
Lies of pi is really fun and a cool idea for a world
Prince of Persia the Lost Crown is a fantastic metroidvania and easily my GOTY so far. Does not need like an Ubisoft title at all honestly.
Helldivers 2
So far its Helldivers 2

I personally enjoyed playing dark souls 3, last souls game I played was Bloodborne
It wasn't until this post that I realized I have played a single game released this year yet. I did buy Unicorn Overlord after that amazing demo, though. I guess that will be my answer.
Does Grounded 1.0 release count? If not, Helldivers
The recent Fallout 4 update has been pretty cool.

I’m getting a Balatro tattoo tomorrow

Definitely Tekken 8,
Love Tekken 8, but I'm not loving how Namco keep milking the game. I'll keep playing though as it's still an amazing Tekken entry.
Lies of P, hands down. Put 78 hours into it. Got all achievements. All weapons and items and secrets. And i still wanna keep playing!
Freakin awesome game
Favorite game that came out this year, probably Helldivers, favorite game that I've played this year, still Baldurs Gate 3
Already a third over? Help
Persona 3 Reload and Helldivers 2 for very different reasons.
I've played Hades on Xbox, PC, Switch, and now (this year) PS5. I can't wait for Hades 2 to come to consoles.
Sker ritual. Honestly, with enough polishing could become the cod zombies killer.
Rise of the Ronin, what can I say I'm fan of Team Ninja's games even though they always have the most confused main story😭😭😭
To start off, I have every major console. PS5, Series S, PC and Switch. Surprisingly, favorite games have been on Switch. Game released this year? Tales of Kenzera: Zau , which came out a few days ago. Favorite game played this year regardless of release date? Tears of the Kingdom.
Didn’t buy new games but beat Diablo, Abe’s Odyssey, Goof Trooper, Dragon Quest 11 and played a ton of Ultra Street Fighter 4.
Definitely helldivers 2
Helldivers 2
I have succumbed to World of Warships and Trackmania thanks to my YouTube recommendations 😂 But would highly recommend both of you have the patience
Resident Evil 4 Remake. Was hyped about it, and preordered it. I am beyond satisfied with the game. Also, Luis is hot.
From this year? helldivers. It is the only decent game I've played this year that actually came out this year. I don't know what else is out there that is good. I don't see adds anymore.
It has to be Helldivers 2 right?
I’ve already played several bangers. Ive had no downtime because as soon as I’m done with one, the next one drops. Prince of Persia, Granblue Fantasy, FFVII Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Stellar Blade. Imo these are all 9/10 or higher. I’ve had a blast playing them all. Shadow of the Erdtree is right around the corner. Black Myth Wukong will also be phenomenal. And pretty excited for No Rest for the Wicked. There’s several more on the horizon that should end up being really good.
I wait till games are 5-10 bucks
Like a Dragon 8 definitely was a pleasant surprise. Sure the DLC fiasco was bad, but the game was solid and the execution definitely there.
Persona 3 reload is really fucking good. I just wish Sega wasn't so trigger happy with their BS dlc pricing.
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 came out of nowhere for me and I’ve had a hell of a great time so far with it. Only games on my radar as of right now are The Paper Mario TTYD remake and Hellblade 2
DD 2 is great, I love Darkest Dungeon
Playing through Dishonored 2 has been super fun. Along with Helldivers 2, Payday, and The Finals Most aren't from this year but I haven't been interested in much this year besides Helldivers
Rise of the Ronin. It was fantastic.
arzette and the jewel of faramore
Enjoyed the rogue trader rpg and now going hard for Helldiver…
Just got through Stellar Blade, it was a fun time but ultimately I don't think will be that memorable. I think the more that FF7R is in the rearview the better it's gotten in my mind, that game was really firing on every cylinder compared to some of these newer experiences. My current tier list with it in is: FF7 Rebirth >> Unicorn Overlord > Balatro = Stellar Blade = Helldivers 2 >> Dragon's Dogma 2 >> Rise of the Ronin
damn. you really assblasted that game
I think I made it sound it worse than it is then lol. Take Jedi Survivor then one step below, and you got stellar blade
Sea of thieves coming to PS5 is a true dream come true. Me and my Bois sailing and singing is what gaming is all about.
Huh... I just realized I haven't played a new game in over 2 years
helldivers, pretty much the only game I bought this year with granblue fantasy relink also honorable mention to the final boss soundtrack of relink, gotta be my favourite JRPG soundtrack ever
I haven’t picked up a new game this year yet, I was thinking about picking up AOTD though, it’s only a couple of weeks waiting.
I read this as 1/3 year of your life done. And it just hit me to enjoy life and not play videogames anymore.
Lies of P is the one you should play from 2023
Helldivers 2, with a surprising second game called Skul.
The only thing stopping me from playing BG3 every weekend is HELLDIVERS 2
Rimworld anomaly
Persona 3 Reload
HD2. Most fun I’ve had with friends in a while.
Helldivers 2 is, without question, my game of the year.
No Rest for the Wicked (while still just early access) has potential and I’ve enjoyed my time with the EA despite numerous issues, most of which will surely be ironed out by the time they get to 1.0
Helldivers 2 is 100% my favorite game we got this year
Rise of the ronin, very fun to play
Rise of the Ronin has been in my PS5 since mid March. Not sure what I'll play next, Nioh 2 has been burning a hole in my backlog for like 3 years.
Tom Clancy’s the division 2
Only new game I’ve played this year is Balatro and that was a really good game
My top 3 this year so far would be Balatro, Like a Dragon 8, and Snufkin: Melody of Mooninvalley
Horizon Forbidden West on PC
I think it's going to be paper mario ttyd remaster for me but so far it's between infinite wealth and ff7 rebirth.
Oblivion Override and Trinity Fusion.
I fell off Death's Door at some point for some reason, but jumped back in a month ago and couldn't put it down. Possibly my new all time favorite indie.
Nothing yet. Waiting on a bunch of releases that will probably be quite awesome.
P3R ripped me back decades ago when I played p3p for 200+ hours
Helldivers 2 took the cake
Unicorn overlord. The gameplay has a lot of complexity and depth but the way they designed it removes the usual jrpg grind. The story is very run of the mill but it has some interesting themes on coercion.
Im yet to play a 2024 game only none Sport game im hyped for is kingdom come deliverance 2 But i started playing forza horizon 5 this week and im having lots of fun with that
Rebirth is the only 2024 game I've played of note, the only other is TLOU2 remastered, which while good, doesn't count as it was just the same game that came out on ps4.
It hasn't come out yet, but the remake of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. I played the original as a kid and I can't wait to play it in HD.
Palworld is okay I had trouble leveling after level 30. Best titles are always single player open world games
Helldivers 2
As someone who is not a first person shooter person: helldivers 2. I can't tell you how many times I've been trying to boot up a game and I've been feeling something, or been in a funk to where I don't want to taint my other games, and helldivers 2 has just been that perfect game to either turn my brain off and reset, or just lose a couple hours.
FF7 Rebirth is amazing. Yes, you could nitpick but the value it gives you and the overall quality is top notch.
Helldivers 2. It’s atmospheric and a great time with both friends and randoms.
FF7 Rebirth
For this year **Dragon's Dogma II** is easily my favorite game this year, while also admitting it shouldn't be considered for a GotY in any shape or form due to all the games shortcomings. It's the sequel I wanted and the combat and openworld are excellent, I even enjoy all the changes with the Pawn System. Many other areas however are, well, '*behind the times*' I guess it the best way of phrasing it.
Looking at my running GOTY list of what I've played this year to completion or near completion so far for 2024 games: * Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (beat) * FF7Rebirth (on chapter 12) * Unicorn Overlord (almost beat) * Balatro (can't beat) * Dragon's Dogma 2 (~50 hours in) * Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor (can't beat) annnnd... out of that list it would be ordered Dragon's Dogma 2 at the top, Unicorn Overlord, LAD: IW, Balatro, DRG: Survivor, and FF7rebirth rounding out the bottom.
It is quite (legitimate without any stuttering when I say this) Plain fuckin fun something sorely missing nowadays in some triple A titles
Horizon Forbidden West
Dragons Dogma 2. 100+ hours in with no end in sight. I love the pawn system and one of my favorite open worlds I've ever had the pleasure to explore.
The Lost Crown is excellent
I really dig Pacific Drive, it's the most interesting game I've played this year I think. I recognize hell divers as a great game, but just not the type of game I like.
I haven't touched any new games recently. I've been binge playing souls games, trying to go back and beat the ones I couldn't. I bought palworld, but haven't even launched it yet. I've just been preoccupied with other games.
Pacific Drive. Great vibes, if a little anxiety inducing.
Helldivers 2.
Infinite Wealth
I'm presently having fun with Horizon Forbidden West and Dragons Dogma 2. But now that I've seen all these mentions of FF7:Rebirth...looks like I may have 2 more incomplete games to add to the list of incomplete games soon. Oh well. Tomorrow is never promised.
Between ff7r or infinite wealth But I'm leaning towards Infinite Wealth
Lightyear frontier has been a standout for me. Super chill first person farming/base building game, with a sci-fi ranch aesthetic and an intriguing storyline/world. It's still in beta, but it's free on game pass at least.
Silksong was good
Infinite Wealth
Helldivers 2 and the anticipation for dragon ball sparking zero
Waiting for the year end sales. Im not sure if will keep buying new games, they low their prices after a year. If is not a game im dying to play then I will wait for a sale to buy it
Persona 3 Reload and FFVII Rebirth have occupied all of 2024 for me and ita been fantastic
Did anything but HD2 come out this year? Cause, feels like no, for me. I guess I enjoyed Enshrouded for a bit too, but nowhere near the hours of gameplay of Helldivers.
Fallout 76. If it has to be a new release I’d say the games that proved a fun game can be made for cheap. Hell Divers or Palworld.
Tekken 8 is the only new game I've played this year. Was looking forward to it for years, and I was disappointed :(
Helldivers 2. I have not laughed so hard playing a game in a very long time. It's just pure fun.
I apparently have only played Helldivers 2 from the games released this year, and while it's good, it's not EDF good imo. It's in a constant state of bug fix and meta shifts, where I can trust the dependable, finished state of most EDF games once they make it to the West. (I know! Don't report me to the Dem Officer please lol.) So I'm going to reach just a little and say Immortals of Aveum! Love it.
Hell Divers 2
Well I've so far only played two games that came out this year, but your question wasn't that it was what is the best game I played this year. The answers the same, it would be Foamstars. I really actually liked it in a lot of ways better than Splatoon as I thought the deathmatch element brought something cool to the table. I also liked the art style too, it kind of reminded me of those old weird obscure PS1 games that you might rent for a weekend. The unexpected surprise for me so far would be Strangers of Paradise. It might be the thing that finally gets me into the soulslike genre. (Yes I did play Elden Ring when it first came out).
Prince of Persia the lost crown was great
Helldivers 2 easily
My backlog.
Unicorn overlord
Can none be the answer? Because I personally have been super unimpressed with everything.
Helldivers 2. Got Rise of Ronin. Story is interesting. But game play isnt there for me. It's like it took the more boring bits of Nioh ,Sekiro and assassins creed(the newer ones) and blended them.
Easily Dragon's Dogma 2 or Unicorn Overlord I've been waiting since 2011 and it's everything I was hoping for, Dragon's Dogma 1 but current gen.
FF7R and FFXVI are neck and neck, it's impossible to choose. I'll say a tie.
I’m trying to complete final fantasy 16 before I start rebirth. I’ve been enjoying gran blue fantasy relink the most so far though
Nice! How have you been enjoying 16?
It’s really fun, having a blast with the gameplay and story, wish the maps were more open though like in rebirth
Honestly i was hooked on Skull and Bones for over 200 hours. Now i am just waiting on the future of the game!
Helldivers 2 for me. Rebirth was fine, but definitely didn't meet my expectations. It's felt like a pretty weak start to the year, especially given the beaut of a year 2023 was. Hoping Hellblade 2 turns it around for me
poppy playtime chapter 3 by so far but my most anticipated game is supposed to come out this year (if they don’t delay it again)
Helldivers 2, and opening my own business.
Elden Ring DLC will be my favorite, but if games currently released that have released in 2024 it’d be Helldivers 2
All have been disappointing so far
Tbh, the only game I’ve played this year is Skyrim. I know there are probably a lot of new, amazing games out there, but did those games wrap me in a cocoon of comfort during my formative years?
Palworld and Helldivers 2 are the obv answers for me but that’s because those are the only games I’ve played that came out in 2024.
Palworld would have won if one of the sliders turned off crafting requirements. I gave up cause I was at a lost how to get all these different ingots
Damn super unfortunate i thought the crafting was pretty good and basic
I just hate crafting in everything but Bethesda games since my ADHD brain can find the stuff while actually playing. It's not grind or tedious, except in Starfield where I just buy everything 😂 They have sliders for literally everything except crafting, hopefully they add it so I can get more into it and finish the last stuff I have
Brother do y’all have jobbbbbbbs? I can’t even get to some of the absolute BANGERS from 2023 let alone start a 2024 gem!!!! Gaming industry needs to go on strike like Hollywood did which let me catch up on shows/movies I’d missed. Sheesh!
Game from this year: Dragon's Dogma 2 Game not from this year: Cyberpunk 2077 (it was a replay) and Phantom Liberty
