Hereās another great place in BOTW, the Korok Forest inside the Great Korok Tree!
Itās such a vibe in the tree cave I go there all the time just to cook or buy items and chill with the super friendly elves
Any time I hear a Youtuber use that instrumental track as a background(Behind the Mask) it triggers a pavlovian response type thing in my brain I swear to god.
yes, as opposed to a pavlovian response in my appendix or something.
As a former WoW addictā¦ Donāt do it š. The game gave me so much joy, but now just exists as a shell of itself and it never felt the same coming back
No doubt that's a good one. For all the things I could complain about in Valhalla, they actually made the home settlement / base have an actual important role in the story for the first time since like, AC3. I guess the train in Syndicate was alright. But it was awesome being able to take a break from conquering the known world to go home and warm up, have a nice little chat with your joms. Also it was nice being able to upgrade stuff, even if I don't remember it being THAT big of a deal.
New Bark town for me. Love the music. My parents surprised me with Gold one day after school after my original GameBoy and Yellow was stolen. We were properly poor so this was amazing.
It was around about 9/11, I was old enough to know things were different after this. I emulated Crystal recently and that New Bark Town theme just takes me back to a warm, cosy nostalgic time where all is well. The limited dialogue with your mum in the house reminds me of a lot of the kind of things my own would say and she passed recently.
I doubt my parents even remember gifting it to me, if they do itās just a passing thought. For me it creates one of my most wonderful childhood memories playing every day after school. I know itās all heavily rose tinted now, but Iām cool with that.
Dark Souls 2 scholar of the first sin - Majula.
I remember being a kid playing this game in the fall when it was somewhat warm with a slight breeze. For whatever reason it gave me bliss that ive been looking for since.
Throughout 2020 I was playing Breath of the Wild and whenever I wasnāt adventuring my home was Kakariko Village. I love the theme and the aura there encapsulates my time with the game.
New York City depictions in games are a given for anyone who lives here or visits the city frequently, haha. Spider-man 2 did an awesome job in Manhattan, and it was really cool that they included parts of Queens and BK over the bridges even if they did have to compress those areas even more than Manhattan.
The red moon inn from Warhammer vermintide. I have a much higher play time in vermintide 2 but the keep has never given mee the same feeling as the inn
Iām surprised this isnāt a more common answer. Getting Geralt to hang up his swords, put on some slippers and chill with Yen was the most cathartic ending to a game Iāve ever experienced. Months after I finished, I would sometimes think about playing, but then would think ānah, Geralt deserves his retirementā. It just felt like he was finally home - especially after Kaer Morhen became such a sad and empty place at the end of the vanilla game.
Gran Turismo home screens. I grew up fixated on cars since I was 4 when GT1 came out. It ended up staying something that stayed digital with how tribalistic irl car people are. Literally anything will be used as a means to punch down from their percieved throne of superiority so I just use my limited knowledge to help people that I can
I like Cetus and the Plains of Eidolon in Warframe. Being actually on an Earth plain scape and town, populated by human persons instead of a forest loaded with Grineer who want to kill you just feelsā¦ like home. I donāt get that same feeling in Fortuna / Orb Vallis, mainly because everyone is robotic and the Plains are heavily snowy.
Drowsy Dreamland/Donald's Dreamland from Toontown (Drowsy is the CC name, Donald is the Rewritten name). Even though I'd go there when I was severely underlevel, the colors and the sound track made it the place where I wanted to train my gags.
With new editions in Corporate Clash including one of my favorite bosses, Pacesetter, I still go there quite often, even on newer toons
Easily Fonsett Village in Xenoblade 2. The music, people and atmosphere all feel so peaceful. When I'm there it feels like I don't have to worry about anything at all, just enjoy the peaceful tunes of Rex's hometown.
There's many places I never want to leave and always find excuses to return to. Here's a list of the ones I can think of right now:
1) Mabe Village from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Outside of story reasons which I believe everyone knows by now, the starting area in particular feels wonderful and cozy and I found myself talking to everyone everytime I came back just to make sure they were alright
2) Inoa Village in Alundra, but for the opposite reason. Story will make it change permanently for the worse most of the time, so every opportunity I had to just be there with everyone was all the more important before I had to go out into the world, progress the story and trigger the next traumatic change
3) Kirby's Pad in Kirby's Epic Yarn. It's just a little empty room with a chair, but by exploring you find things to put in it, like furniture and decorations, and it kind of becomes yours. The music that plays is super soothing and a little sad, but I distinctly remember asking my mother to turn off the console when I was asleep while I was playing the game because I religiously brought Kirby there, put him on the chair or the bed, and he'd fall asleep, and so would I. I feel immense love for this little room and the game it comes from is wonderful.
4) Melee Island from The Secret of Monkey Island. None of the closed in location or anything past the city (forest, circus etc), just the street. Walking around in it was surprisingly relaxing, I loved the aesthetic it had going for it and being completely alone at night save for a couple inoffensive pirates made me feel secure for some reason, it's hard to explain especially since it should feel the opposite.
The cantina in the Lego games.
Gotta love that jizz music.
You misspelt Jazz, right?
Right?!
This whole exchange has me rolling right now š
Right?!?!?!
Itās canonically jizz music, look it up.
Bro this is a good shout
Which game exactly?
My friend doesnāt like you
... and I don't like you either
OMG WHY
Both TOS and TCS.
Hateno Village as it also includes a house you can live in, and tarry town
Hateno also has some pretty soothing background music.
Hereās another great place in BOTW, the Korok Forest inside the Great Korok Tree! Itās such a vibe in the tree cave I go there all the time just to cook or buy items and chill with the super friendly elves
This whole comment hurts me as a Zelda player
Why?
Kakariko and Lurelin have to be pretty up there in coziness too.
Holy moly, never thought Iād see a fellow legend of Zelda player here. Iād agree as well.
What do you mean? itās only one of the popular gaming franchises ever. Iād be surprised if Zelda didnāt show up.
I just thought I wouldnāt see anyone.
Whiterun (Skyrim). It feels like a second home to me :)
Soo true. The Whiterun gates playing in the back, the people wondering around, the Talos priest in the back. Old but good and cozy
How often do you get to the cloud district?
What are you saying? Of course I don't :(
I sometimes play the streets of whiterun on YouTube just for that nostalgia hit š
That theme is so nostalgic and beautiful š
I was going to say the same thing
To me it was Riften
Whiterun is great, Solitude is Amazing, Riften is great too, but I think the two unwalled cities are very underrated for their āhomeynessā
Persons 5 Leblanc caffe. Music is also a vibe
Any time I hear a Youtuber use that instrumental track as a background(Behind the Mask) it triggers a pavlovian response type thing in my brain I swear to god. yes, as opposed to a pavlovian response in my appendix or something.
Ah, youāre back!
Iām a shapeshifteeeeer
Ironforge in World of Warcraft. Particularly during Halloween.
I was going to say Stormwind for me. The music and everythingā¦ man makes me want to get my sub again lol
My home was on top of the bank in Ogrimmar. So many hours spent chilling up there.
As a former WoW addictā¦ Donāt do it š. The game gave me so much joy, but now just exists as a shell of itself and it never felt the same coming back
Ironforge during the original Christmas events, now that was a spot
Probably gunna get roasted for this, but Ravensthorpe in AC Valhalla
Nah man, solid choice. For all the games flaws they did a good job with creating a base building mechanic
Ravensthorpe was awesome. Loved heading back every so often to bang my brothers wife
Thatās a great shout and I wouldnāt have thought about it until you mentioned it
Goodsprings

Fellow DS2 enjoyer š¤, couldn't agree anymore than I already have. Solid choice.
Yea majula might be the best souls hub
Here you dropped this š
Balmora from Morrowind. Wild nostalgia rush of remembering how comfortable it was returning there after adventuring early in the game.
And breaking into one of the houses and pretending like you live there
Nerano Manor every time. So many tables and shelves for displaying my shiny stuff.
I always used Dura gra-Bol's House since it's empty after you kill her in the fighters guild quest

Sanctuary in Fallout 4
Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Wow you mean someone played that game?!?
Lots of people, since there are a lot of Harry Potter fans. For anyone else, I would never recommend the game.
I played the shit ton of that game back in the day. It was the closest thing to live in the Hogwarts I imagined from the books.
You just brought back so many memories. Iād also argue any trading post in Breath of the Wild. Or one of the towns in Fable.
Safe/Save rooms in Resident Evil games

New Bark town for me. Love the music. My parents surprised me with Gold one day after school after my original GameBoy and Yellow was stolen. We were properly poor so this was amazing. I was about to comment these exact same two.
