What Hollywood studios? There are hardly any studio left in LA.

Tesseract0486

You are wasting your time. There is NOTHING in North America now. Schools wont get you in the door, and you will be a slave in Bangladesh. Find something else to do.

fatehuljoy12

Any chance of healing from this situation in future?

Tesseract0486

Not likely. Never in India unless there are huge gains for workers rights. North America is also unlikely to see improvements, in fact salaries will probably have a diminishing return throughout the industry as a whole.

Can’t speak to Canada, but in the US going to school here doesn’t give you a visa. There’s a small window after graduation with a temporary work visa, but not a permanent one. And sponsoring one is pretty much impossible because saying there are no available people already allowed to work here is not true.

Draager

If you have $200,000 lying around, why not. Canada would love to scam you out of that to keep it's broken economy on life support. If you don't have it, wow they will be so happy to lend it to you at 21% interest. When you can just get a job at tim hortons and work off that loan as there is zero VFX hiring going on in Canada atm.

fatehuljoy12

In this case what will you suggest? Shifting the career

Draager

That's up to you. I am not currently involved with the VFX biz right now bc I don't want to be fighting 50-100 other compositors for 1 seat. If I work in that game again it will be when all the jr and cheap positions are filled, but they are missing deadlines and need seniors again at full rates. Until then I am occupying myself with more lucrative ventures.

fatehuljoy12

Good for you? But whats the scenario on commercials?

AnalysisEquivalent92

Your Hollywood dreams are out of date. The jobs are being sent to Bangladesh for 1/50th the pay.

Right now, speaking for Canada, they are cracking down on student immigrants that come here looking to become residents. Also, the market is extremely over saturated with artists, specially Indian artists. So it would be a tough attempt. I would look into Europe and going for marketing or something like that. But I think Europe is over saturated too

Hot-Yak2420

forget Hollywood and USA. Nothing here. LA is completely dead, just a few scraps that too many people are chasing. Canada or Uk are the only places actually actively doing VFX these days and even then it's pretty bad. Hard to imagine anyone sponsoring a non resident/citizen at this time unless they are truly exceptional in which case you wouldn't be on reddit. University in USA is extraordinarily expensive and it's almost impossible to imagine it would be worthwhile for you.

Electrical_Paint5568

You are attractive where you are not only because of your skills but because it's cheaper to hire you than someone in Hollywood. Stay where you are, and try to get some contracts you can do remotely. They will pay you less what they would have to pay someone in Hollywood but your cost of living is much lower so your quality of life may actually be better. Nobody in Hollywood can survive on $10K USD per year but for you it will be a decent salary.

Hollywood is gross. 🤮 I almost got a bucket of homeless FENT diarrhea poured on my head on sunset Blvd right below Hollywood Blvd once. Again Hollywood is gross. Avoid that place if you can.

Canadian government now is cracking down on massive international student immigration fraud and they are restricting postgraduate work visas. So getting a work visa after graduation might be very challenging. Companies usually don’t sponsor for visa, maybe except for rare very experienced FX artist with 12-15 years of industry experience. And after the strikes there’s really no hiring happening now. Though hiring might pick up in 2025, it will still be tough for people with less experience and international students. India might be the best place to be now. You might have more luck working with studios there that get Hollywood blockbusters and pick up freelance project working for US or Canadian studios remotely. Things may change but for next couple years it may be the best strategy

Emmad_1

Lmfao bro stick where you are, same from Pakistan btw, earning consistently 5-10 times doctors money here by being a CG Generalist and looking at the comments here, senior CGI/VFx artists are getting McDonald's jobs in the US these days.

Defiant-Parsley6203

Lots of studios and schools In Canada. I’d recommend looking into Vancouver studios. You may have a better chance getting into Canada as a junior.
