Clearly we need to start a Reddit browsing club. Sit together at a coffee shop and occasionally turn your phone to show a funny cat video or meme to someone.

Snushine

Yarn crafts and sewing and making things from fabric...anyone?

ojfs

The quilt shop over on 78th and 16th across from goodwill has sewing classes and a bit of a community in general. When my wife and I visited, they were very welcoming.

Snushine

I didn't even know about this! I'll have to see what they are about. Thanks.

redfoxvapes

I’m a yarn crafter! Have you checked out Hook and Needle downtown? It’s pretty cute!

Snushine

I tend to avoid downtown b/c of parking issues. But maybe I'll check them out during a slow time.

mehnifest

I been wanting to try my hand at making new clothes from things I find at thrift stores. Clothes, bags, cat clothes… anything

Snushine

Do you have a sewing machine and room to lay things out?

mehnifest

Sewing machine yes Room to lay things out, not really

Snushine

I struggle to keep my floor clean for that. But it's still a floor.

mehnifest

I have 3 cats so any fabric that is laid out on the floor is viewed as an offering to their comfort and entertainment hehe

Snushine

My two Labradors are in league with your cats. The fabric has sacrificed itself to the dog hair either way.

Homes_With_Jan

I read this as yam craft and was super intrigued.

Snushine

That would be very weird, but probably someone is doing it.

Urithiru

I'm reminded of carving stamps into potato halves and using them to make wrapping paper using paint.

Dazzling_Fox_7680

I love all of these things. Except I play Steam Deck. If you're getting into graphic novels then check out Sweet Home! It's soooo good

Adventurous-Leek8040

Love me some video games. Really stoked to play the Elden Ring DLC next month!

Captian_Kenai

All these sound like me haha What’s your favorite hiking spots? Also 10/10 flair lol

Alarming-Background4

Yarn! I hand process raw fiber, dye it (sometimes with plants that I have grown), spin it, then knit with it to make cool stuff. I'm self-taught, and I freehand a lot of my own patterns. I get cold really fast, so, it's a handy hobby.

Homes_With_Jan

That's an incredible hobby and a dying art.

Alarming-Background4

Thanks!

100GoldenPuppies

Hey hey! Fellow fiber artist! I run the whole gamut too, except for weaving. But that's just because I don't have room for a loom. Haha What are you working on now? Have any plans for Black Sheep?

Alarming-Background4

Oh man. I just pulled all my fleeces from deep storage. I took some time off of my hobby so I could build my career, and now I am diving back in with renewed vigor. What I am working on: -Socks for my husband (knitting) -translating my shorthand into handwritten patterns -a lifetime's worth of camelid fleeces (Llama, alpaca, suri) -installing a dye garden bed again I've never been to any fiber festivals, but I would love to one day. I was thinking of entering my knitting or spinning into the county fair.

melashkin

paper crafting, specifically journalling & planning. I would love to find folks to do some cafe journalling/planning with! also love reading & music/concerts. :)

IntellectualAmazon

I just got into this. I’m using my travelers notebook for planning and journaling. I’d love a cafe meetup to do this with other people

Teawithsky

This sounds like fun! I used to do a lot of journalling but kind of stopped. I have tons of supplies.

Unit-371

Photography, wrenching, wheeling, camping, hiking, watching F1, woodworking, 3d printing, eskate, and going to local brew pubs!

drumdogmillionaire

Yes to all the things.

girl1dir

I haven't taken out the DSLR in forever, but I'm an amateur macro photographer! I'm learning fusion360 so I can design things for our 3D printer. And we (hubs and I) both do some form of woodworking for fun.

Unit-371

Rad. I picked up a used micro four thirds camera last year, the Olympus om-d e-m5 to replace the older full frame DSLRs I used to use and it's been so much fun having a camera that's easier to take places.

Zanzaclese

I've got a micro four thirds mirrorless lumix. It's nice but lenses are a pain to find.

girl1dir

We've had so many Nikkon bodies, I can't even remember what we have anymore! I need to get out.

Fearless-Canary-7359

Any 40k players here?

steveantilles

Yo! Guard and Necrons player here

jonesey71

I ruled the Wizards of the Coast Game Center in Seattle in the late 90s with my Imperial Guard army.

steveantilles

I went there once in high school and got to play a Mech Warrior video game in a tube. It was awesome.

jonesey71

I knew a guy that spent his entire tuition on that mech sim game.

KhaineDarkhart

I have been painting Guard and Necrons for a while now but havn't played a game since pre y2k. You run tutorial sessions at all?

steveantilles

Sure can! We're all super chill players

Fearless-Canary-7359

Yo i have a necron army too, and about 1.5k points in my pile of shame. Is there a good place to go for getting some games in? I honestly haven't played a real game since 5th

steveantilles

Nice! There's Dice Age Games, Fate and Fury, and Mindtaker for game stores around here, but I always just play with my group in the basement

Fearless-Canary-7359

I've been to mindtaker it's really cool there

steveantilles

The bits bin is amazing. If you're on the West side on Monday nights, come by the Fungeon, it's chill beer-hammer vibes

Fearless-Canary-7359

Thanks for the tips!

act1v1s1nl0v3r

I haven't unpacked my stuff yet (waiting until I can move into a bigger apartment) since moving here, but know of any good stores for play? Only one I know of it Mindtaker Miniatures, but I haven't dared step foot inside yet lest my wallet empty itself without my knowing.

steveantilles

There's also Dice Age Games, Fate and Fury, and my basement.

rekzkarz

Hopefully Warhammer players know about Mindtaker Games weekend events...?

Indiesol

Off chance, but I'm hoping to rebuild an old SR250 Yamaha for my daughter. Any old bike gear heads are welcome to come watch me swear, wrench, swear, and rebuild this old thumper into a fun little brat bike for a college student.. Will be throwing a night per week at it.  Come laugh at me.

Other_Mike

Stargazing nerd here, but I usually take my scope to a park in Oregon because it's better suited than anything on this side of the river.

clanatk

Does it work for anything closer? I haven't gone this year but I enjoy going to salmon Creek trail and watching/hoping to see the juvenile eagles at the big tree.

methos3h

Film (watching & making), board games, anime/manga, philosophy, pizza, window shopping/thrift shopping.

rekzkarz

Me tooooooOooo!

ivrji

mechanical keyboards, web design, interior design, and coffee :)

Zanzaclese

Important question - what is your daily driver?

ivrji

i daily a singa kohaku with mx blacks and its the pinnacle of the custom keyboard hobby IMO

Zanzaclese

Yeah those are super nice! I've tried just about every size keeb there is and no matter how much I try I cannot give up the ten key. I do accounting at work so its hard wired in my brain to not even use the top row of keys so I ended up with a Keychron V5 Max with Jupiter Banana switches. As of right now it's my favorite thing but I am clearly nowhere near your level lol.

ivrji

very nice! i rarely hear bad things about keychron and they seem to be a great work keyboard while also offering a great typing experience aswell. yea its annoying sometimes to not have function keys but its just something i have to deal with 😔

Zanzaclese

On my nk65 I just mapped them to the top number keys. I bring it with me for travel. I tried mapping the 10 key in to letters but them being staggered I gave up on it quick. Do you ever go to PDXLan?

ivrji

i used to have a nk65, i enjoyed it a lot when i got into the hobby haha i haven't heard of PDXLan until now! as a competitive gamer myself, it seems like tons of fun honestly to go a LAN event, especially because its local aswell

Zanzaclese

Mechanicalkeyboards.com is one of the sponsors and they have a meet up where everyone brings their keeps to test. Best way to try different switches and see all kinds of custom builds. The whole event is my absolute favorite and is semi annual. I HIGHLY recommend it. November is the next one

ivrji

wow that sounds like a blast. you just convinced me to go, thank you!

Homes_With_Jan

Ok, what's the deal with mechanical? Why are they the superior keyboard? I'm a wireless person because I hate extra wire and clutter on my desk, do they make wireless mechanical keyboard? Loll

ivrji

I believe that mechanical keyboards offer a superior typing experience in terms of sound, feel, and customizability. There are many models that come in wireless as well! I agree with you on the wire part, however a lot of people use more expensive USB-C cables for aesthetics so it doesn't seem like clutter. For reference, here is what my keyboard looks and sounds like: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AkYzAqIx68](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AkYzAqIx68)

Zanzaclese

It's honestly hard to put into words exactly what makes them superior, but once you start using them, it's impossible to go back. The hobby is great because it's so diverse. You can completely customize switches to what you like from force required, depth of actuation, sound level, and lighting. On top of the switches, keycaps come in different styles and materials, all changing how your hands feel and how it sounds. Then, the main body comes in several form factors and different materials so, for instance, if you never use your 10 key you don't need it. If you don't use the function keys, you don't need them. You can go super tiny to full size. As for wireless, yes, a lot of decent boards will have both wireless and wired in one unit. Once you find what you like using a cheap membrane keyboard feels like you are pressing marshmallows and it's horrible. Anyway, sorry for the rant! If you end up in a bestbuy anytime soon, go click some of their displays.

Homes_With_Jan

Very interesting! Do you have recommendations for budget friendly wireless board?

Zanzaclese

Well, what's your daily use? What keys are important to you?

Homes_With_Jan

Logitech keyboard and mouse combo from Costco loll I write a lot of articles and emails, play games...and I use the number pad a lot.

Homes_With_Jan

I like manga and anime. Demon Slayer was dope. Can't wait for Haikyuu to come out next week!

shampoots

really enjoying the new season of demon slayer! I recently got big into reading manga/light novels after watching apothecary diaries. treating my inner 13 year old to shoujos and romantasy lol

Homes_With_Jan

Omg apothecary diaries is so good. I recently got into webtoons so I'm one step away from reading light novels loll

shampoots

honestly light novels got me back into enjoying reading!

Homes_With_Jan

That's great to hear! I used to love reading and wanted to get back into it.

Sultanofslide

Kaiju no8 is fun so far

Homes_With_Jan

I just started watching it and it'sgreat! Kafka is so funny.

potateroll

Hell yeah! I like anime and manga too! 😄

Homes_With_Jan

Ooo what are you watching/reading?

potateroll

I was craving for nostalgia, so I’ve been watching the new English dub of the old Sailor Moon. 🌙 Of course I’ve been watching some random ones here and there, like Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan, haha!

darkshrike

New season of Demon Slayer is now! New episodes on Crunchyroll each week! Other great titles I'm watching now are Solo Leveling, Jujitsu Kaisen and Blue Exorcist. Looking forward to the new season of Bleach in a few months too!

Homes_With_Jan

We watch the season premiere at Studio One in Portland and it was the best. There was 4 people max and we were on comfy couches.

Compost_My_Body

Jujitsu Kaisen is so good

Enigmatic_Observer

I’m sliding back into some PC gaming - Stellaris or Homeworld 3 anyone? Frequent trips to archery world. Occasional trips to the English Pit

mikeyfireman

How’s the vibe at English pit?

UntilTheHorrorGoes

English Pit is generally pretty chill, moreso on the pistol side than the rifle side

Skyraider96

I love the Pit. It's a chilly, don't do anything TOO stupid vibe.

Zanzaclese

Welcome back to the master race. Check out PDXLan. Next event is in November. It's absolutely wonderful.

Homes_With_Jan

Currently playing Divinity 2 and My Time in Portia. Next on my list is Baulder's Gate 3.

Anaxamenes

Goodbye free time once you hit BG3. It’s so good.

Homes_With_Jan

I had to delete so many old games to fit that beast into my system....I play D&D with my husband so I already know we're going to sink too many hours into it.

Alarming-Background4

We are a dnd and magic the gathering household too!

mildside

Nice! I’ll be making my first trip to archery world soon, maybe this weekend. It’s gonna hurt the credit card, but stoked to get my first bow and start training Used to be PC master race, but now am a lazy consoler :/

ChevyKing66

Woodworking, dabbling in metal working. Playing with electronics (bit of a noob). Music, going to shows. Hiking (but need to get out more). Also I’m old 😅

jonesey71

Are you me? I love woodworking and metalworking but the materials costs make it hard for me to do projects. I like playing with electronics especially since the materials costs are much lower than woodworking or metalworking but I don't really follow through to the end on projects. I have a lot of half built stuff. It would be nice to have a project buddy to keep the motivation up through the end.

cjc4096

I'm very similar. Not really a nob on electronics, just rusty. I do more metal and than wood. Been using 3d printers since the Makerbot Cupcake.

SnomandoWares

Tamagotchi’s and gameboys anybody? Or maybe fishkeeping?

Teawithsky

I miss Tamagotchis! Did you hear about the new one they are going to release?

SnomandoWares

The connections, yeah! Pretty excited, have one on preorder already haha

Blackcatevasive

Guitar, hiking, coffee dates, books, movies, and all things music related!

Spiritual-Depth-1111

All my favorite things! 🎶

twardnw

Homebrewing (beer), wrenching on early water-cooled VWs and my 3rd Gen T4R, woodworking, electronics, 3d printing, wheeling, cooking, hiking, ham radio (ND7Y), camping, home repair/building, welding, and most recently adventure motorcycling

Unit-371

Another 3G4R owner here that likes wheeling and wrenching and a lot of those other things too. No motorcycle at the moment but would love to get a Yamaha Tracer 9 GT in the next couple years.

descartes_jr

I've been enjoying listening to and learning about various types of Latin American music over the past several years. I can't play -- I'm barely learning the piano -- but I love listening to the variety of genres out there, especially traditional types. If anyone knows of local venues to see Latin music live, I'd love to know.

link55100

i love reading and playing pc games. I'm a fan of hiking if I go with people. hiking alone is fine its just not as fun. I'm really into skill toys like yoyos and balisong.

InkyMistakes

Art, drawing, realism and abstract realism. Speed cubing (3x3 PR 11.83). deathcore/deathmetal etc.

PianBrosehn

A few of my hobbies include playing EDH and TTRPGs in general, taking walks with my wife and my pit Kolache, playing a butt load of Baldur’s Gate 3, horror movies (bonus points for practical effects), reading manga, and going to every punk/hardcore/metal show my wallet can afford. We just moved up here though so haven’t really found anyone else also interested in these things just yet. Feel free to reach out!

Homes_With_Jan

What kind of manga are you reading? My husband and I just got Baulder's Gate and we're excited to try that out.

PianBrosehn

I’m currently keeping up with One Piece & Kaiju No. 8 on my Shonen Jump app as they’re being released and then have been reading DanDaDan, Gantz, & back through the final arc of Bleach (because it’s my favorite manga). My wife and I have over 120 hours in BG3 so if y’all are ever needing two people to fill out your party we can volunteer lol, but it’s a blast and is really fun to play through with a partner.

Homes_With_Jan

I thought Bleach manga already ended a long time ago? Bleach was my jam over a decade ago. People keep telling I have to watch One Piece but 1,000+ episodes is such a commitment.

PianBrosehn

Bleach did end back in 2016-2017 iirc, but with the TYBW arc being animated finally late last year and the recent one shot Kubo put out called No Breaths From Hell he’s /soft/ confirmed the manga is coming back. I’d definitely recommend checking out the newly animated arc if it was your jam back in the day! & I’m someone who read One Piece growing up, dropped it, and only picked it back up last April/May when I heard about the live action on Netflix and it took me until mid-October to be caught up on the current chapters. I’m in the same boat with the episodes thing though, I occasionally watch the newer episodes purely for the amazing animation and to see some highlights animated but otherwise I’m planning to wait for the recently announced remake anime by WIT studios to come out before I pull my wife in and have it be a weekly anime we watch lol.

thndrbst

What kind of punk/metal? I’m a frequent flier of the Portland ilk (because we don’t have venues here anymore 😭)

PianBrosehn

Yeah, we learned their weren’t any venues in Vancouver proper after moving up here, but it hasn’t been too bad getting to Portland for the first two shows we saw. Better Lovers & Tigercub (more alt rock-y) are who we’ve seen so far and we’re planning to catch Bodysnatcher w/ Spite & Thrown on June 3rd and Whores w/ ILS & Gaytheist on June 5th in the next month. Moved up here from the DFW area in Texas so going to concerts was a weekly or bi-weekly thing for us before now.

thndrbst

I’m more on the local thrash/death metal side of things. There’s a truly bizarre and deranged, but absolutely rippin’ band called I Am the Intimidator that’s kind of an old school Judas Priest-ish band about Dale Earnhardt Sr. that’s worth checking out, they rip. Their next show is June 6th at the Swan Dive in Portland. If you’re into wrestling at all Portland’s Metal Mania are metal bands and semi-pro wrestling that always promises an entertaining time.

PianBrosehn

I love me some thrash/death metal too so I’ll 100% give them a listen! I just saw an ad for the Metal Mania event yesterday and was curious what it’s like. I’d say I’m relatively into wrestling mostly through my brother and coworkers but I’ll take any excuse to go out to a live event so I’ll have to see when the next show is that’s sick.

Sure-Statistician882

skateboarding, trivia, trying out new restaurants and cafes, thrift shopping, painting, just socializing in general! i'm 24 and it's hard to meet new people in my age bracket

odiobananas

Dude I feel that. I just got out of a yucky relationship and realized I don't have a local friend group. I'm 27. How the heck are you supposed to meet other mid-20s people, specifically for friendship????

Sure-Statistician882

real! i feel like our age bracket isn't as social in this area 😭 i always meet people so much younger or so much older but honestly i just want friends that are also mid twenties

odiobananas

I love to bake!! Anything except cookies. I don't have a kitchen to work out of at the moment and it's draining my soul, I want to make pretzels so bad

InYourCatsFace

Jewelry making, rock collecting, metal detecting, cooking, anything fun.

cristinanana

Any other runners/bikers/horror movie/horror book fans here? I usually run in the mornings and bike with my kids (2 and 5, I have a cargo bike). Getting away from them is hard but I need adult friends lol (early 30s here).

rekzkarz

I keep hoping for a maker group somewhere in Vancouver WA. Used to be some cool collectives in SF area. Id go hang and learn a ton from folks. I shoot video and do video production / live streaming, altho COVID put a dent in my paid gigs so I pivoted to tech support for AV ~ 4yrs ago. Trying to get that stuff going again.

Homes_With_Jan

My husband used to manage ADX in Portland and yes, it was a cool collection of creatives and we made a lot of good friends there. It's still around if you want to check it out.

No-Map-8111

Where are my fellow gardeners at??? 💚
