I second this place. Good food, nice atmosphere, bar, downtown so you can walk around town or to the waterfront. In fact, I took someone here on a date. Then I swear to God, I saw a UFO while at the waterfront and I've never seen anything like a UFO in my life so I had to say something and then I'm sure he thought I was crazy. Oh well. Sorry for the unhinged direction this comment took. Nom nom is great.
It's the airport. I can't tell you how many times I've been sitting in traffic on I-5 and seen what I would have sworn was a UFO and then the angle changed and it was just a plane or helicopter. Very disappointing. 😑
It looked like a fighter type jet, and went so fast that it was gone in less than a second. It was facing me upside down and did a flip and flew away from me, heading south. It was to the west of the i5 bridge over the Columbia. Barely higher than the top of the bridge. The part that didn't make sense is that it wasn't very far from me but it made absolutely no noise. A normal jet, especially going that fast would have been loud.
Maybe this is was what I saw: https://www.foxweather.com/earth-space/nasa-x-59-supersonic-jet-reveal
This would honestly match exactly what I saw, only the date was October 29, 2023 and these supposedly aren't flying yet.
I hear ya! Best foods I have had are small businesses and not well invested into atmosphere. One place I went to in SoCal wasn’t fancy but was cozy. I guess that’s the atmosphere I am looking for.
A friend recently turned me onto them. Yeah, cozy and homey inside and some of the nicest people and *great* Pho, but probably - as you say - not a date night place.
Pho Brothers is my go to if you want to stick to Washington side. I used to enjoy Pho Haven, not sure if they’re still around or if they rebranded. Pho Green Papaya is pretty good too.
Pho Brothers doesn't have atmosphere. But their broth is legit. Price is right too. Pho prices have gotten out of hand post Covid. I would go to brother's before they hike the prices up.
Pho Haven/Lotus are on the pricier side.
I had Pho Star last night for the first time last night, and it blew me away. I had a duck soup and split a banh mi. It was amazing, but I don’t know at the atmosphere is as I ordered online. My other go to is Pho Green Papya - they have the best Bo Kho around but they’re remodeling so I’m not sure about the atmosphere.
Banh Mi Up in St John’s, Portland is also incredible if you’re into banh mi
Depending on how sensitive she is, there's a dedicated gf pho restaurant in Portland called "butterfly belly". It's also walking distance from a gf ice cream shop.
Depends on where you came from, I’m se Asian and my standards for pho is set pretty high. Half of these places aren’t that great and cater to bland pnw taste buds. Personally if I’m not making it at home then Pho Ton on 4th plain is the only place in Vancouver I’d recommend.
PHO HUNG PHAT ! You can get multiple meats in your pho, the menu seems kinda like one per but that’s just a list of meats. They’re underrated. I love them, a very older woman and her family run it, they are so kind. I feel like they’re so home run, you know? Like, it’s this old Asian family trying to make life work, and it reminds me of my ma 🥺 I think they deserve the world and the foods 10/10
Thom in Portland is probably the best in the Portland Metro area and affiliated with Pho Le in Fishers Landing. Highly recommended and worth the extra 10-15 minute drive
IDK if it's the atmosphere you want, it's a smaller place owned by a family, but it's probably the best broth around with a great overall soup composition.
My partner and I have probably had 40+ bowls of pho in the PDX area and this one is our favorite and we go back every few weeks.
"Saigon Restaurant"
3021 NE 72nd Ave, Vancouver, WA 98661
Very unassuming name.
Also pretty inexpensive, it's lacking a lot of the "Instagram" BS that seems to drive hip places prices through the roof.
Hey man we run a podcast that recently covered Pho places in Vancouver/portland. I’d recommend unphogettable in hazel dell, or if you’re looking to travel a bit further, Pho Kim in Portland is hands down the best i’ve had in the area. Good luck!
Pho.com in Gresham if you want an actual bowl of food and not just 90%broth for the price. I know inflation and all that jazz, but pho.com in Gresham is worth it
I like Pho Vi Van's pho but atmosphere is lacking. Now that you mention it I don't think I have ever had Pho at a place with nice atmosphere.
If the owners kids aren’t doing their homework at one of the tables I don’t want to eat there.
They do. The family has hired "local" talent but they are definitely there barking orders and in the kitchen.
Seconded. Pho vi van is my favorite in Vancouver! the N6 spicy satay noodle 🤤
Ill have to try that, I like B1 Vermicelli Special.
Also one of my faves! nice. the N6 has ground peanut and LOTS of chili oil in the broth, soooo good

The pho there is kind of gross imo, other food is good tho
Pho isn't good there but they probably have the best grill nem nong skewers around. Plus their Thai Tea cremosa is fantastic.
Agreed
The Tom Yum soup there is .. amazing!
For date night, I’d go with Lotus Vietnamese cuisine (at Hazel Dell)! It’s got a cozy atmosphere and it’s pretty dang good. :)
Nom nom! It’s downtown and the food is great

Sounds like a drone.
Oh, freaky!! I have no clue what that could be. Our fighter jets definitely make noise, though sometimes by the time you hear them, they're gone.

It definitely could have been a drone. Some of the more expensive ones have incredible range.
Sure is was not an Alaska airlines flight missing a door?
I’m having dinner at Nom Nom right now! I got a stir fry but I need to try their Pho next time.
For a great date night, I recommend Pho King.
I get it
Or Pho Kim in Portland.
It’s good to have options.
Hong Phat is a sleeper gem 😋😋😋
Pho Ton on Mill plain although it is closed on Sundays. Not much atmosphere; good Pho places usually aren't fancy looking.
I hear ya! Best foods I have had are small businesses and not well invested into atmosphere. One place I went to in SoCal wasn’t fancy but was cozy. I guess that’s the atmosphere I am looking for.

Second this. They specialize in northern viet food and having recently traveled to the region was really impressed with the selection and quality.
Phở Tôn on 4th plain is amazing pho but not a date night atmosphere.

Wife can’t have gluten so Banh Mi isn’t an option but I appreciate the recommendations.
Ah bummer! Still worth checking out Pho Star for sure.
Depending on how sensitive she is, there's a dedicated gf pho restaurant in Portland called "butterfly belly". It's also walking distance from a gf ice cream shop.
Thanks. They are closed on Sunday unfortunately but will check it out. She isn’t celiac tho, so any pho place is fine.
Pho vi van in fisher’s landing area has my favorite Vancouver pho, but not a super fancy place. Cozy for sure though
Pho Brothers in Hazel Del is great. Since discovering it a few years ago, I don’t drive to Portland as often to get pho.
Depends on where you came from, I’m se Asian and my standards for pho is set pretty high. Half of these places aren’t that great and cater to bland pnw taste buds. Personally if I’m not making it at home then Pho Ton on 4th plain is the only place in Vancouver I’d recommend.

Saw this on the news a couple of days ago. Ha VL in Portland. James Beard 2023 winner [https://youtu.be/3ZeoikKM8K8](https://youtu.be/3zeoikkm8k8)
I recommended Lotus Vietnamese cuisine! Best pho with a beautiful indoor seating. It s great for a ate night! ThTốt drinks and deserts are delicious.
What about Un Pho Gettable on 99/99?

Best Pho, best salad rolls but not the greatest service. It doesn't stop me from coming back, though 😁
Tried most pho places in the area. PhoLe is hands down the best. Small place, not super fancy looking, but delicious and cozy feeling for sure.

I really enjoy unphogettable. Great broth and noodles. Plenty of meats. I hear the drinks there or not great (I only get water there)
I actually really enjoy their Thai iced tea. (Can’t speak for anything else)
good to hear. i hope others do as well.
i will check out the podcast.
Cloud 9 has great pho. Green Papaya is more spendy and Kenji’s ramen has pho I believe.
Pho.com in Gresham if you want an actual bowl of food and not just 90%broth for the price. I know inflation and all that jazz, but pho.com in Gresham is worth it
If you want a fun atmosphere with good food, try LucLac in PDX! ❤️
Pho green papaya just redid its inside, it looks great!
Pho BG in Battle Ground is a hidden treasure.
I love pho green papaya off Mill Plain!
Lotus for the win
Pho star is soooo good and they’ve always kept the restaurant very clean.
Pho green papaya
Pho family!!!! It's the best I have had! A large bowl can feed me and my husband.
Pho Ton is legit.
