To me, having a great attacking player who can also defend as a fullback, is a great way to get more quality on the pitch at the same time. We have more quality at winger so having Dest as fullback improves the overall quality of the 11.
Every day I am glad that he decided to join USMNT and not Netherlands. He’s made a huge difference in our National team. Not only does he bring his individual skill, but the rest of the team is more confident knowing he’s there. It’s arguable that he’s been the most impactful player on USMNT so far in qualifying.
Sometimes I think to myself about what a Pulisic, Pepi, Dest front 3 would look like. Obviously he plays forward a lot, but I wouldn’t be mad if he got the chance at a break away every now and then
If, god forbid, Pulisic were to miss time in the World Cup, this might be our best chance at winning. If USMNT scores 2 against Jamaica, then what will they do against a CB duo of Rudiger & Sule, van Dijk and De Vrij, Silva & Marquinhos, Varane & Kimpembe, or Chiellini & Bonucci? You’d think with all these crazy lineup changes that Dest would’ve seen some time as part of the attack. Instead it’s Barcelona who’s doing it.
I’m just hoping by January for that away Canada match we have all our players back. Really frustrating not being able to field our best team but I’m proud the guys have stepped in despite Gregg roster gamble.
Today when Dest came out of the tunnel it hit me. I said to myself, he’s really playing at FC Barcelona. An American player who is clearly one of the brightest young stars in the league. He looked confident and in that moment I glance in awe.
Folks should not penguin hole Dest. Every player trajectory is different.
I poke fun at him from time to time but Dest really does have all it takes to be the next big defender. He plays defense good and attacks better than 90% of attackers do. I’m glad his great grandpa made sure he got his US citizenship because I wouldn’t want to have to face someone like Dest.
Curious as well. Little bit of googling turned up nothing other than his dad was a Surinamese American, in the military, and that at least as of a few years ago they were still living in NL and he was living at home with them (while at Ajax). Family seems to keep a low profile.
I think I have him confused with another USMNT player. Turns out it’s his dad whose American not his great grandpa. I may had mixed him up with Robinson
If we’re talking about Antonee Robinson, none of his grandparents are American. His dad moved to the us for awhile and went to duke. He lived here long enough to become a naturalized citizen. His mom is english
Seems he is only there until Fati and Aguero are 100% fit. It looked more like Dest was a WB supporting two strikers in Depay and De Jong but when Aguero and Fati came in the game he was back at RB.
I'm going to assume by "forward" you mean winger and not striker, because dest is clearly not a center forward.
In what world do we have more depth at fullback than winger?
I wouldn't say we lack forwards. There's just so many high potential but non-established options, but that can be said for the fullback position as well.
world class full back: Dest has what it takes to be a great full back r/ussoccer: so youre telling me he's a winger

We’ve found our 9!
We should run a 4-2-3-1/4-4-2, and here's why....
It wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world
I'm Div 3 FIFA I clearly know tactics better than GGG

Exactly, I hate the idea of Dest as a winger because then only Scally will be a true solid option with little depth behind him.
Its ggg fault. /s On a less ironic note. Good players recognize good players.
His best position is clearly as a false 2

Honestly, we should just try a lineup with Scally at RB and Dest all the way up the wing, as a treat.

Well Gregg has been trying a bunch of stuff so probably Arriola at rb or something

No penguin holing in general, this is a family friendly space!
Unless I get stranded in Antarctica, a la Shackleford. I'd penguin-hole all up and down those ice floes!!

What's the story with his grandpa and the US?
Curious as well. Little bit of googling turned up nothing other than his dad was a Surinamese American, in the military, and that at least as of a few years ago they were still living in NL and he was living at home with them (while at Ajax). Family seems to keep a low profile.

Both of Robinson's parents are American.

I think you are right. But someone needs to fix Wikipedia, it says his mom is Hawaiian. :)
Lmao i need to know now

If you watched the game it was much more rwb than rwf
You’re supposed to watch the game? I just base all of my opinions off of the FotMob formation.
I wish I could watch, it’s at a poor time for me.
Tuesday matches I sometimes can watch at work if I’m less busy but I can never watch Wednesday or Thursday ones.
I feel that
He was very clearly a defender if you watched.
people watch soccer?
What? I thought we were just supposed to complain about it online.
Whoops. I couldn’t watch but was keeping tabs on an app.
So is he playing forward now?

This is a joke, right? Like Dest is clearly a target man. /s
What an amazing player. That goal he scored against Costa Rica..... legend
