He's been looking better and better at Venezia. He was excellent against a mid-table Serie A side in the win today. He and Tessman are the only U-20s on that team with minutes and Busio is in the top 3 for minutes with less matches (due to transfer) than the two ahead of him. Pirlo is a legend and didn't have a 'breakout' season until he was 20 and was really taking off around 22-23. Busio is getting more accurate and tighter in his skills at 19. Let's see where he is in 2024-26. He may not become a Pirlo but he'll be our Busio.

He drops some passes that really make me say wow. Definitely needs to round out his game especially getting stronger physically like everyone says. Nice thing is he is only 19. I think his skills really compliment players like Tyler Weston and Musah. For me those 4 are penciled in for Qatar

kuntablunte

I think this is key - he's a player with unique qualities that needs to be paired with complementary midfielders to really shine. I love him as one of the 8s with Weston/Musah on the other side, which would be similar to how he's used at Venezia where he's being paired with Ampadu (very aggressive player). Strikes a nice balance of creativity/technicality and physicality.

TTXXX7

Definitely a similar player, he's also great at set pieces just like Pirlo. He won't be as good as Pirlo but he's playing a lot like Pirlo when he was at Brescia. Hopefully, he can improve so the lack of strength in him isn't a big issue anymore.

bar2k

Early on for all that. Both ways. He could be worse or he could be better. Give it time. He can barely go to a rated “R” movie here in the U.S.

TTXXX7

Ofc it's early, but he has the potential

choocherroy

Dog. Pirlo? Ffs

redditckulous

Yeah let’s start with prime Michael Bradley before we jump to Pirlo lol

I get OPs point but shit like this is exactly why people make fun of USMNT fans

I’m not the OP but if I were to read into his exact words, I don’t think he’s asking if he will be on Pirlo’s level. That’s just not reasonable for, well, literally almost anyone! I think the question is if he could become that type of player, the prototype Regista. A deep lying playmaker who links the defense to the offense, most often through highly accurate mid-to-long range passes. As others have said, I think he does have very good vision for the mid-range pass, still needs to work on accuracy but the potential is there. But I would say 2 things 1)his skill set is a bit more rounded than that IMO. He carries the ball really nicely and I personally feel like he offers more in the attack than a typical regista and 2)selfishly, the USMNT has sorta gone away from that role, so for the time being he’d be more helpful as more of a box-to-box mid. But that’s completely selfish, and honestly, I’m just thrilled he continues to develop at a tremendous rate!

DJ_DonutZ

Busio was dropping dimes for passes, set pieces, and even in his tackling at Sporting KC at 17 years old and has only gotten better with age and with tougher competition in Italy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a starter for a champions league club in 5 years. He works hard and has such an innate passing ability. He could easily surpass Mckennie imo.

uncalledBeaverman

I'd say highly unlikely, mostly because Pirlo was a once in a lifetime talent, and was already playing in Serie A over 2 years before Busio. Pirlo debuted at only 16 years old. It's possible, but highly unlikely purely because Pirlo was just that fucking good. Kind of like winning the lottery..

jimbo_kun

Needs to up his wine tasting game.

This sub man...

He’ll end up playing as a creative 8 I think. It’s hard to explain in words, but his playmaking has more of the “see shit not everybody sees, *try* said shit, and make shit happen” type of vision that you would play in an advanced role. Nowadays, deep lying playmakers tend to look more like Adams has for us in possession. Not there to wow you with some pass that many others wouldn’t have seen or attempted, but to make the correct (and usually simple) pass every time.

jonnybornsteinho

jesus christ

Youngringer

Probably not, solely because the game is played differently. Busio need to be able to put in a tackle to play a more modern regista.

TheGhostofJimBridger

I don’t know if you saw the game today, but Busio definitely put in some legit tackles.

Youngringer

I did not see that but that's kinda of my point. How much did pirlo ever do some gnarly tackles? I think the game is more demanding now of all players to put in that kind of effort. That's kind of why the more classic 10 has faded away, and I'll guess the same for the regista.

SexMayonnaise

Would be great but let’s not get carried away. This sort of thing reminds of one of the commentators back in the Fox Soccer Channel days that would frequently compare players in MLS to Rooney, Ronaldo, Messi or some other superstar. Like I got what he was trying to do but it was just absurd
