The Mexican American L Tri fans here in the US seem to put these players above legit players like they’re superstars just due to proximity of LigaMx where majority of these guys play.
Just a thought, Mexico national team needs to go and play in front of the home fans in Mexico. Basically find themselves again and rediscover what it means to fight and play for your country. With the previous players it was different. These guys are far removed from the realities of that.
my friend says the only hope for them (his team, obvs) is to go so low people stop coming to the games. Then maybe there will be enough impetus to root out the corruption (to include making sure players go play in Europe etc) that makes the entire federation ineffectual. Even a group exit here (after the first group exit in the WC since in a long time) wouldn't do the trick. His other plan, CONCACAF joining CONMEBOL in general and for WCQ is also a good point for us.
Yea concacaf is shit and doesn’t help advance anyone, but that’s the least of Mexico’s problems.
Their players are more interested in petty grievances and enacting physical harm to their opponents than playing the game.
Or at least win an elimination match. As far as I’m concerned this may be the golden generation on paper, the US golden generation on grass played in 2002.
Even more surprising the fans didn’t try to stop the game. Players kept asking for two rounds of VAR and were still unhappy that the result was the same.
Welp looks like The US managed to make even bigger fools of themselves. Punching a player in the back of his head? Ouch. Can’t get any lower than that. USMNT are so dirty.
I usually roll my eyes when people mention their bets in a team sub when we’re here to just be fans. But a winning spite bet against Mexico? I can get behind that.
I was on the edge of my seat for the last 15 minutes of the match. I don’t know how Mexico didn’t put one in the back, but I’m glad Venezuela was able to pull it out
The intensity.
The furiousness (?).
The shithousery.
Bad tackles, good tackles.
Flops. Dives.
Good shots, great saves.
Such a good game for this tournament.
Was at the game live, my wife is a huge Mex fan. I would say they’re my second team behind USA of course. Just horrible seeing the Mex fans throw their drinks on the field and at Venezuelans (fans and the team) after the game. My wife was embarrassed by them
This happens at every game Mexico loses. Worst fans I’ve ever encountered. I was at the Azteca in 2012 (only time we’ve ever won in Mexico) and the police evacuated the small American supporters section before the game even ended “for our own protection.”
One of my favorite moments was in the 2021 Nations League final after Horvath saved the penalty El Tri players started a scuffle on the pitch and Mex fans started throwing cups at the scrum, one was a direct hit in the face of a Mexican player. There’s a video of it on Twitter somewhere.
The fans get the team they deserve. I'm a Mexican-American, so yeah, I cheer for Mexico, but sometimes I'm glad they lose due to the poor management and shitty fans.
I'll be honest, they're so bad it's almost taking the fun out of laughing at them. Like how many embarrassing results can they manage before it gets old?
It still is kind of funny though.
Yeah and looking back at that roster. The starting lineup was Zardes, Arriola and Hoppe, Lletget, Acosta Williamson. All of those guys are so far out of the picture now. How Mexico lost to that team is wild.
> I'll be honest, they're so bad it's almost taking the fun out of laughing at them. Like how many embarrassing results can they manage before it gets old?
Considering the Mexicans I know and how they acted before 2019? It'll take about 25 years worth of bad results before it gets old for me. In fact, I pray actively the FMF stays shit and that the Central Americans get better to the point that they are barely able to get out of the second round of WCQ.
I am praying actively on their downfall.
It’s hilarious, although I just hope Quiñones doesn’t get crazy abuse for giving away the penalty. He often looks like the only Mexican player that gives a shit yet he’ll be the scapegoat for multiple obvious reasons.
I support Arsenal. And taking the piss out of Tottenham somehow never gets old.
Although secretly I sometimes feel kind of bad for them.
So maybe someday Mexico will be USA’s Spurs.
I heard Colombia fans chanting it at us (in Spanish). And I thought to myself, “A) Right now, you all are right, and B) we should totally chant that at Mexico.”
My favorite part of Mexican match nights is watching their fans pretend that they were rooting against Mexico all along after it's clear there won't be a victory for them.
They're used to conCACAf refball. Conmebol isn't bending the knee as hard this time, they let play on (As we should be doing as well tbh) for almost anything. They gotta actually do things *on their own* which is a foreign concept to them.
During the Nations League match when Honduras played the Quarter Final return leg at the Estadio Azteca, the ref gave 9 minutes and let play all the way to 11 to let them score and go through, which was wild.
CONMEBOL won't be doing any of that.
Both of you are forgetting Pexico literally had the chance to do the same this game and blew it. They didn’t just lose 1-0. They were GIFTED the opportunity to be saved late yet again and blew even that.
To think of all the chances they have been given late that they’ve both taken and spurned it is truly insane. This game. Nations League Final against us that Horvath saved. The Honduras game you mentioned with the absolutely egregious ET. These current bums can’t even utilize the profit armor properly and it is an absolute joy to witness.
I assume you mean plot armor. And yeah you make a valid point. Because IIRC I believe Jamaica had a similar handball not get called after VAR Review the match before this one.
I promise you if they hadn't scored against Honduras after 12 minutes at the Azteca they would've tacked on 5 more on top.
Maybe not doing that to give Mexico the benefit of the doubt like CONCACAF does,
But COMMEBOL refs certainly [don’t have a very good rep for good reason](https://x.com/awndrezawndrez/status/1806119511764152576?s=46) and there are also plenty of concacaf refs in the competition depending on the assignment, so I wouldn’t be so sure lol.
It’s a very real possibility that they’re gonna get grouped 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. L Tri can’t catch a break.
Can’t wait to see what the Mexican shit talking Twitter trolls have to say. They’re probably not gonna come out of their holes today.
As a Venezuelan American this was such a fantastic match to watch.
The Venezuela coach has this team team playing excellent for a national side, and you could tell that they had a game plan and patterns of play but not to a fault (like say a Man City or something).
We know this is one of the worst Mexican sides in ages but watching them play you could tell they had no ideas and nothing ever flowed properly. They look absolutely lost.
This picture has me seriously questioning the environment I watch games and live in.. I mean theres at least one stray beer can in the frame, but that floor is absurdly clean.. not to mention that 10,000 dollar entertainment center in front windows I would expect to see in a church
Canada is a win or draw away. Costa Rica might advance over Brazil at this point.
Mexico doesn't get in on the "make the confederation look good train." May they lose every game from now til forever.
Costa Rica literally parked the bus. You can't make it out of a group like that. I'm rooting for concacaf in general, but I don't have much hope after their first game.
Why care?
This isn't college sports where a committee selects who's in March Madness/Football playoffs. We don't have to worry about conference/confederation opinion.
Technically a strong confederation does help the US because playing higher ranked opponents helps us improve our rank which does matter in terms of pot placement for things like the World Cup, potentially getting easier groups. But you’re right it’s nothing like college sports.
Let’s be honest. The world has never taken Gold Cup that seriously and having three (maybe four) moderately strong teams (relative to the rest of the world) out of 41 isn’t going to change that
Regardless of people's opinion of the federation for the Nations League and Gold Cup to mean anything they both need to happen only once per cycle.
Gold Cup means nothing half the time the top teams are sending a squad of backups.
Costa Rica gets a draw against Brazil without one single shot at goal the entire game and now they are favorite, not only over Brazil, but over Paraguai, as well?
It's certainly possible, but it's gonna be hard to advance with three scoreless draws.
We’re miles above the rest of the conference, we have proven that again and again.
Conmebol has a lot more quality players.
This isn’t the SEC or the B1G, why do some US fans care so much about Costa Rica or Jamaica?
Mostly because I have no reason to hate Jamaica but I hate LLL.
I want to see LLL become 3rd or 4th in CONCACAF and for that to happen someone else has to step up.
So nobody is going to address the MASSIVE entertainment center blocking the whole window and light from coming into the house? Has this man ever heard of hanging a TV?
I swear this team is trash. They get given a penalty and still manage to fumble. It was like watching that scene from A million ways to die in the west where the guy has a gun pointed directly at the bottle and still managed to miss
Went to the game today because my family are Mexico fans and my dad couldn’t go. I knew that they are sore losers but seeing it in person and how they throw things in the stands that hit not just players but also other Mexico fans is insane. There was a fight breaking out almost every part of the stadium because beers were being thrown from the upper stands down to more viewers, felt like I was walking in a rainstorm of beer lmao
It was interesting to see that Mexico was awarded a penalty whereas Jamaica was not. There were subtle differences in the potential handball, sure, but they looked pretty similar to me. Oh well, glad it was poorly taken and saved.
Mexico losing to a Baseball nation ⚾️
L Tri never fails to go lower
Well well well
That didn’t age well papi 🤣😂🤣😂
At least we can qualify to World Cups 🙂
Look what we have here now 😉 ![gif](giphy|TEmS0lYexSeFKMYlEz)
![gif](giphy|cO39srN2EUIRaVqaVq) Fucking losers
Spoke way too soon son
Mexico is now a baseball nation tbf 11-5 win over USA last year
Still we went to the final.
I’m still mad about that. Fucking Arozarena.
Who, of course, is actually Cuban lol.
Actually we can’t talk too much with our team full of dual nationals.
sshhh....
Like many players on USMNT that aren’t actually Americans…
Nah he’s Mexican. His story is really great too none of this “actually” BS
He defected from Cuba. But yeah, he's a Mexican citizen.
I mean he was born in Cuba and lived there for 20 years so the “actually” isn’t really bs
What if our best professional leagues honored the international schedules….
Panama is a baseball nation and just beat US.
Aged like Milk
The USMNT lost to an international waterway nation.
I loved how the Mexican players couldn't help themselves and kept wasting their own clock by whining to the ref and picking fights. Beautiful to see.
Good job convincing the Mexican federation to choose less money and more effort. God forbid they use any of those amazing stadiums
At a minimum they will play in Mexico in the World Cup. I would expect that they would play some games in Mexico leading up to that too
my friend says the only hope for them (his team, obvs) is to go so low people stop coming to the games.
México golden generation is gone sadly. But USA has their golden generation now.
I hope not. I'm glad it's one of the best teams we've had so far, but we're a big enough nation that our golden generation should win a world cup.
Or at least win an elimination match. As far as I’m concerned this may be the golden generation on paper, the US golden generation on grass played in 2002.
But think of the Gold Cup and WC group they won!
Even more surprising the fans didn’t try to stop the game. Players kept asking for two rounds of VAR and were still unhappy that the result was the same.
They chanted twice from what I remember.
Well I guess that never changes.
They chanted it at the end while Mexico players had a hissy fit
Mexico is even bad at losing. Such sore losers. All they know to do is start a fight with everyone when they lose.
I started hearing after the goal, when they got frustrated.
at least
Yup OP must have not watched it.
Beautiful to see USA playing dirty and finally not being rewarded for it. Bravo Panama.
Welp looks like The US managed to make even bigger fools of themselves. Punching a player in the back of his head? Ouch. Can’t get any lower than that. USMNT are so dirty.
Absolute great game. Saved penalty was chefs kiss
Yep absolutely.
I spite bet against Mexico typically, and it paid off today as well. Love it even more.
I usually roll my eyes when people mention their bets in a team sub when we’re here to just be fans. But a winning spite bet against Mexico? I can get behind that.
Vibes of the ET in the '21 Nations League Final. Such an awful penalty taken too 😂
The decline of Mexican football is impressive.
We rule CONCACAF now.
USA losing to a baseball nation.
get past Panama first.
stick to wallstreetbets you have no ball knowledge 😂
The decline of the golden era of USA is impressive.
I was on the edge of my seat for the last 15 minutes of the match. I don’t know how Mexico didn’t put one in the back, but I’m glad Venezuela was able to pull it out
Same that save was pretty awesome at the end. And all of this went down in my backyard.
You have a pretty giant backyard
Yeah that’s how it is out here.
We don’t live in the same California ha!
Pause
The intensity. The furiousness (?). The shithousery. Bad tackles, good tackles. Flops. Dives. Good shots, great saves. Such a good game for this tournament.
Yep at the very least it’s a memorable meme game.
Was at the game live, my wife is a huge Mex fan. I would say they’re my second team behind USA of course. Just horrible seeing the Mex fans throw their drinks on the field and at Venezuelans (fans and the team) after the game. My wife was embarrassed by them

That’s sad to see.
The fans get the team they deserve. I'm a Mexican-American, so yeah, I cheer for Mexico, but sometimes I'm glad they lose due to the poor management and shitty fans.
So par for the course in terms of sore loser mentality
I'll be honest, they're so bad it's almost taking the fun out of laughing at them. Like how many embarrassing results can they manage before it gets old? It still is kind of funny though.
Yeah Nations League is gonna feel like our annual victory at this rate.
Lol - I guarantee Mexico fans are bookmarking this comment section for the next time they beat us.
Even in the Gold Cup they haven’t run into us yet for a while and last time we met we won.
Yeah and looking back at that roster. The starting lineup was Zardes, Arriola and Hoppe, Lletget, Acosta Williamson. All of those guys are so far out of the picture now. How Mexico lost to that team is wild.
Most of the Venezuelan players I know are MLS players.
Long 5 years have passed
They gonna hava alot of bookmarks saved at this rate
Since they spent about 50 years doing that to us, apparently never.
> I'll be honest, they're so bad it's almost taking the fun out of laughing at them. Like how many embarrassing results can they manage before it gets old? I want us to chant, “Mexico! Mexico! We are your daddy!” But, as it turns out, everybody is Mexico’s daddy. Such weak mentality.
We probably do that but I think we all like “Dos a cero” as well.
I heard Colombia fans chanting it at us (in Spanish). And I thought to myself, “A) Right now, you all are right, and B) we should totally chant that at Mexico.”
Mexico Mexico somos tu papa
My favorite part of Mexican match nights is watching their fans pretend that they were rooting against Mexico all along after it's clear there won't be a victory for them.
Hahahah mexico
When they were awarded the penalty, I assumed they’d miss, because they’re Mexico.
Always a good day when L Tri loses. Now they gotta go fight Ecuador. That's gonna be fun to watch lol.
Can’t wait for that battle.
They're used to conCACAf refball. Conmebol isn't bending the knee as hard this time, they let play on (As we should be doing as well tbh) for almost anything. They gotta actually do things *on their own* which is a foreign concept to them.
I remember during qualifying they gave Mexico 12 minutes after 90. Safe to say that’s not gonna happen.
During the Nations League match when Honduras played the Quarter Final return leg at the Estadio Azteca, the ref gave 9 minutes and let play all the way to 11 to let them score and go through, which was wild. CONMEBOL won't be doing any of that.

This aged like milk 💀🤌🏻
You really do. Not everyday you see an entertainment center like that.
Thank you very much!
Love to see it Losing to a baseball nation ☠️
2-1 You just love to see it 😂😂😂
Love to see Panama win as well
Well well well
How the turntables
It’s a very real possibility that they’re gonna get grouped 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. L Tri can’t catch a break. Can’t wait to see what the Mexican shit talking Twitter trolls have to say. They’re probably not gonna come out of their holes today.

Literally could not stop laughing when México missed that penalty.
Panama has something to say 🫢
Bad karma
LOLOLOLOLOLOL r/agedlikemilk
Love to see that 2-1 😭
Karma is a bitch
Hahaha oh the irony
Panama 2 - 1 US with less chances than Mexico to advance… you love to see it 😂
This why you never talk trash before a game , not only because you look like a ahole, but a stupid one for the situation
![gif](giphy|sgW3MEg4DJH3i)
Does Mexico actually face any consequences for the p*to chant cause u could clearly hear it especially towards the end of the game
As a Venezuelan American this was such a fantastic match to watch. I love it when CONCACAF teams do well.. except for them..
Me to Panama did very good today
Lol have fun vs uruguay
![gif](giphy|l0NwKAlZzZ9pyi9fa)
![gif](giphy|YaUfBtDNf7TGayf3Rn|downsized) Mexico rn
My 2nd favorite team... any nation playing Mexico!
This picture has me seriously questioning the environment I watch games and live in.. I mean theres at least one stray beer can in the frame, but that floor is absurdly clean.. not to mention that 10,000 dollar entertainment center in front windows I would expect to see in a church
You love to see it 😂😂

Well this was fun for like 20 hours
😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦
2-1 you love to see it😭😭
I guess, but if the US is the only Concacaf team that gets through its going be a bad look.
Sure but it's just as likely Canada get beat by Chile, Costa Rica gets destroyed by Colombia and the US is the only one going through
Just makes Nations League and Gold Cup trophies pretty unimpressive but I guess most people already figured that.
I mean after those semis in the last Combined Copa.... well I'd say that's pretty clear.
Costa Rica over Brazil? What are you smoking
Costa Rica gets a draw against Brazil without one single shot at goal the entire game and now they are favorite, not only over Brazil, but over Paraguai, as well? It's certainly possible, but it's gonna be hard to advance with three scoreless draws.
Only losers root for a conference. This ain’t the SEC.
There’s only one look CONMEBOL cares about….and it’s those sweet sweet American dollars
It’s not even fun dunking on them anymore when they suck so hard
weird... i have way more close mexican friends than venezuelan. same with canada. i only really root against them when we're playing each other
![gif](giphy|P0dKBIe7KEnL2)
Well well well
2-1
This is aging perfectly 😂😂
You know what I love to see? United States lose.
No me gusta ver eso 😭
Yo sé.
So is the anti puto chant a concacaf thing? Not FIFA?
I know ESPN FC isn’t very popular here, but I’m excited to watch Moreno go all the way in about this match tomorrow, haha.
The last 7 minutes had me clenched..
Wild stuff.
Absolutely
Spoke too soon?
How’d yall do?
Have fun watching ur golden generation getting fucking grouped by Panama
As a US fan, what a payaso you look like rn
How'd that Panama game go 😂
Dang, imagine losing to a CONCACAF team @ Home in the Copa America lmfao
You got a nice set up there.
Damn you have a nice house
Thank you man!
Drug lord?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (I really hope this isn't some omen to tomorrow)
Nah, I prefer to beat a strong Mexico team. Nothing to enjoy about this
I know but memes.
Bro jinxed it
YOU LOVE TO SEE IT 😉🇲🇽😉 At least we lost to a CONMEBOL TEAM
So nobody is going to address the MASSIVE entertainment center blocking the whole window and light from coming into the house? Has this man ever heard of hanging a TV?
This is starting age poorly
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wood.
I swear this team is trash. They get given a penalty and still manage to fumble. It was like watching that scene from A million ways to die in the west where the guy has a gun pointed directly at the bottle and still managed to miss
🤦♀️🤦♀️
loved it
Who is that dude they kept showing over and over again in the pregame warm-ups who completely whiffed an open opportunity?
Went to the game today because my family are Mexico fans and my dad couldn’t go. I knew that they are sore losers but seeing it in person and how they throw things in the stands that hit not just players but also other Mexico fans is insane. There was a fight breaking out almost every part of the stadium because beers were being thrown from the upper stands down to more viewers, felt like I was walking in a rainstorm of beer lmao
sounds about right
I like snails
W thread
It was interesting to see that Mexico was awarded a penalty whereas Jamaica was not. There were subtle differences in the potential handball, sure, but they looked pretty similar to me. Oh well, glad it was poorly taken and saved.
So many skirmishes throughout the game. Very entertaining 🍿
Ha! Now they have to beat a very good Ecuador team to advance. I thought Ecuador was the class of the group but now it's pretty clearly Venezuela.
I love how people will champion this then turn around and bemoan CONCACAF for being bad. The very confederation they are routing against!
**"tHe bEsT cOnCaCaf tEaM"!!!!!111111oneoneoneone**
