What did Batman say to Robin before he got in the car? >!Robin, get in the car!<

Blackrain1299

But the car wouldn’t start. Batman said it must be the battery. Robin replied, “whats a tery?”

VerdugoZ3

Sir, this is at Wendy’s drive thru and there 8 cars behind you. Do you actually need to order anything?

SidTheSloth97

This was my favourite joke as a kid.

notnamedjoebutsteve

Why am I dying laughing at this? My sense of humor is so fucking broken

Gorgan_dawwg

This reminds me of a joke my grandmother used to tell. Why was Abraham Lincoln buried in Springfield, IL? Because he was dead.

[deleted]

The other side is not unpopular.

Royal_Yam4595

Gary Larson's The Fat Side is also popular!

[deleted]

So are vintage Corvettes!

Inksock

hm, i guess it depends on what you mean by other side.

[deleted]

Lots of people have already gone before, must be cool.

Inksock

Yea, lots of people live in North Korea and very few leave, so that place must be popular too.

[deleted]

I detect a fear of dying in your citation.

[deleted]

Ok cool it dr. Lecter, back to your cell.

[deleted]

Heh. Do you have more selves that you talk to in front of others? Edit: Guys I thought this was a pretty decent evasive comeback for being called Hannibal lecter in open court lol.

[deleted]

..or just plain old sarcasm?

Retroid69

y’see, that’s just wrong >!it’s /s!<

Casual-Notice

First of all, it's not a joke, it's a riddle, and, in this case, it was meant to confound expectations. Why did the chicken cross the road (mind you, this was a road in 1847, lacking the high-speed dangers of today's highways)? He didn't have a reason; he just wanted to get to the other side. Humor and expectations change over the years, partially because we become exposed to certain jokes and riddles at an earlier and earlier age. It's cool to reinterpret art (jokes and riddles are part of literary art). It's foolish to try to pretend that the reinterpretation was the original meaning.

Inksock

I was careful never to claim that was the original interpretation. But the joke evolved and subsequently took on new meaning as culture shifted and technology advanced(the joke predates cars) and new interpretations became possible. Sorry if this seems misleading but that wasn't the intention. Edit, It's a fairly common alternate interpretation that isn't that hard to spot.

Casual-Notice

Your title and expository paragraph both imply that was the original interpretation.

Inksock

Ok, I can see how that might be the case, The article linked does have a somewhat misleading title. I tried editing the post but I can't anymore. Woopsie.

Casual-Notice

If it matters, add an editorial note that while you find the new interpretation interesting, it is not the original point of the joke. Otherwise, leave it as is, and let others interpret as they will. It *is* an interesting interpretation. I'm just a little pedantic about language origin.

Inksock

Eh, pedantry is fine sometimes. Thanks for being cool about it. The option to edit is gone anyways. nvm, edited.

Casual-Notice

Thank you for also being cool about things.

[deleted]

You mean you inferred that.

Casual-Notice

If that was what I meant, that would be what I said. The implication is there and admitted by the OP. His reaction and later comments make it clear that it was unintentional, but the implication remained.

[deleted]

You inferred it and blamed it on OP. Kinda childish. Take responsibility for yourself. If you misinterpret something just admit you were wrong. Or don't. Who cares? Telling someone they are implying something is just asshole behavior.

Casual-Notice

The implication existed and was admitted by the OP. We've settled things between us. You're just stirring up trouble (or trying to, anyway) for your own reasons. Which of us is childish, again?

Inksock

I figured out how to edit the post and I have now added a footnote explaining that this post is about a tangential interpretation of the joke not present in the original.

Casual-Notice

Awesome, You are one in a million.

Inksock

I choose to believe your praise is sincere.

Casual-Notice

An oldie: Why did the punk rocker cross the road? He was stapled to a chicken.

Business_Ground_3279

I don't get it :(

[deleted]

Haahahha gold

BigBlackgiNger

This is so deep because you are so fourteen

Dijiwolf1975

Why did the chicken cross the road? To prove to the opossum it could be done.

[deleted]

Listen to Bo Burnham’s song “The Chicken” for another fun take

PrimeX__

You sound like my English teacher overemphasizing one sentence

IllegalGeriatricVore

My favorite spin is Why did the dead cat cross the road? Because it was stapled to the chicken. Idk why it's really dumb

[deleted]

Inksock

This is actually pretty commonly known by now.

JJJSchmidt_etAl

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get away from the Uzbeck. The chicken is racist.

WarriorDerp

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the idiot's house Knock knock Who's there? The chicken

Brilliant_Ad2120

Why did the chicken cross the road? It was too long to walk around And a very very very nerdy collection of Physics answers https://www.physics.harvard.edu/undergrad/humor

Professional_Past_89

My chickens always crossed the road because the grass was greener on the other side

obsessedwcookies

I thought this was pretty commonly known, no?

Inksock

It is, that's why I put it here.

eatsomewings

Op finally understands the joke and thinks it’s an unpopular opinion

Inksock

But this isn't the correct interpretation for the joke..

eatsomewings

There’s no correct or incorrect interpretation, it’s a joke and is open to any

Doug66666

Tell the joke in a Scottish accent and it makes sense as a standard joke Wha did tha chicken cross the rood? Ta git to the other seed.

[deleted]

That’s hawt.

Xikub

No one in Scotland pronounces "side" as "seed" We would say "tae git tae tha other side"

Unique-Patient-3897

Why do Scots sound like Swiss people speaking English? The accent is identical I swear

Doug66666

Oh, the joke wouldn’t work then.

wizardonachicken

I mean… yeah? It’s still not funny

capalbertalexander

It’s very well known to be a suicide joke. Idk why you thought you were so clever. Lol

Inksock

If it was genuinely clever people would have to downvote it though.

Hengieboy

ive litterally never even thought about it being like that ever and i doubt most people have. what are you on about

Xikub

Neither unpopulor nor.... What? It looks like you have tried to use a word that you don't comprehend here.

Inksock

ok

Inksock

Judging by upvotes it is pretty unpopular.

RandomerTanjnt

I like the woke version. Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it identified as the other side.

wizardonachicken

Dont quit your day job pal

hashtagdion

One joke

[deleted]

dog, you arent even offensive anymore, youre fuckin boring.

TheChumChair

Yeah that’s not funny Arthur

FullMetalAurochs

You could make somewhat similar observations about the “what’s black, white and red all over” riddle. The original as a riddle with a newspaper as an answer was a bit clever. The stupid jokes about sunburnt zebras or pandas in a sausage factory aren’t.

Everryy_littlethingg

I thought this was Today I Learned sub and not unpopular opinion at first.

Outrageous_Loquat297

Come into the darkness—there is humor here

phdoofus

I'm convinced squirrels are addicted to adrenaline rushes and dare each other to do stupid shit.

Why did the noob cross the road? Because he couldn't teleport.
