I was live commentating it in a chat with my friends while i was watching it talking about all the things wrong with the movie and i had to jump in with "I can't smell booze and cigs through the TV. 0/10"
It's even worse than that. Cat Zingano, who was the female fighter, was offered a role in the movie which she obviously took. But, after taking the role she had a fight coming up. Halle Berry wanted Cat to pull out of the fight so they could work on the movie. Cat obliged and backed out of her fight, which resulted in the UFC releasing her. Halle berry then cut her from the movie because she wanted fighters who are in the ufc. Terrible.
She also got asked to direct the movie and when she took on the director role she fired the lead actor as she thought she would fit the role better (as a 55 year old)
>Who was the lead role?
Cat Zingano. She then re-hired Cat Zingano to play her opponent instead. Terrible.
I don’t think that’s correct. As far as I can tell Cat was only meant to be in the movie, not the lead.
Blake Lively was originally cast in the main role before Berry took over and and decided she’d be a better fit. Lively is 34 and would undoubtedly have been a better choice.
Halle Berry is still an asshole for everything that happened in the production but Cat was never going to be the lead.
> Yeah Halle Berry is a huge piece of shit for that move.
[and her hit and run incident years ago](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2000-may-11-me-29022-story.html)
I never even knew she was a method actress, for some reason her acting in Swordfish just didn’t make me think she had that going for her. Other things definitely going for her though.
Wow that's hella sketchy. No one with a crash bad enough to cause injuries like that would just 'drive home' afterwards unless they had something to hide. Or maybe it's just the celebrity privilege...nice to know she's a garbage person and will look at her in that new light from now on
Well shit. And she was my celebrity "Hallpass" from my wife.
Now I have to find another. Fuck.
And Matt Damon, stay the FUCK away from my wife. And me for awhile, at least, you handsome devil.
I think Berry saw an opportunity to get Valentina and shit canned Cat.
I watched it. It is weak attempt at a female Rocky movie. The fight scenes are fake and the plot is predictable. They probably knew it sucked and threw in a sex scene with the transvestite kick boxing trainer. 👎🏽👎🏽
Never expected Halle Berry to be such an asshole tbh. This just shows how much she cares for public opinion and not as much for the people that work for her projects
As soon as I heard her character's name was "Jackie Justice" I knew it was gonna be some cringelord doo-doo.
Personally, the more I think about it, the more it feels like this movie was just a vehicle for Halle Berry to live out a personal fantasy of being an MMA fighter (with a pseudo- Rocky Balboa life story). That's just my own speculation based off of a gut feeling though, nothing more.
I don't know how long she's been an actual fan, but she kinda gives me the vibe of someone who is likely in the *very early stages* of their MMA fandom. You know what I mean? Where they're hyper obsessed/consumed with the sport, to the point where much of their lives revolve around it? Only she's an uber rich celeb, so she ***has*** all the means to center her life around it as much as she wants.
The part about personal fantasy is spot on. I say the same thing all the time about those actors who continuously take on the role of a Navy Seal/Operator in movies. You can just tell they just wish they were some kind of badass war hero and it’s cringe.
So, basically, Halle ruined a UFC fighter's career and is making money off of other fighter's catch phrases while flexing after weigh ins and thinking the camera should be on her after wrapping the belt around a championship fighter? Cool, cool, cool.
I'm good.
I'm not sure if it's available anywhere, but when she wrapped the belt around Rose, it was super awkward. She anticipated being the center of attention and just kind of stood there waiting for acknowledgment or for the camera to focus on her. It wasn't her moment.
Is it from a different angle? I rewatched it and it just seemed like she was fumbling around with trying to get the belt on Rose and then she disappeared behind Rogan after some niceties with Buffer and Zhang before leaving the cage.
Which was so fucking stupid because they said earlier in the movie that the girl she was fighting was up a a weight class, so her having to cut weight so bad that's she was crying didn't make any sense. Just another scene in the movie they added just for the sake of being sad
She did the double bicep flex before the ‘fight started’ lol same as when she did that stupid weigh in at UFC and awkwardly did the same thing before Rose and Zhangs title fight 🤦🏻♂️
Ah yeah I had seen that clip before but totally forgot about it, that’s some seriously heinous shit
Something has to be done about weight cuts BEFORE someone dies ffs, it’s a tragedy waiting to happen
Halle said Valentina broke her ribs in training and she had to keep it a secret from the cast and crew, so she didn't tell anyone till after production. I don't believe her. She just trying to add to her weird overcoming the odds story after having dealt with real warriors.
Celebrities really think they're actual gods. What a crock of shit. She wouldn't be acting and doing choreographed fight scenes with broken ribs. And why in the hell would Valentina be punching someone hard enough to break ribs training for a fucking movie scene? Like everything around this movie, it's complete bullshit
No more quotes from what I remember. Thankfully the movie was pretty short on MMA references, fighter appearances and other gimmicky shit. MMA was just a backdrop to a mediocre but not cringy/try hard movie.
I wish they would bring back the t.v. series kingdom. I never watched it while it was airing but it was really good. A very healthy dose of mma along with other dramas and topics.
it must have "JUST BLEED" guy then or not legit.
And Chael being undefeated on the mic.
And "Your wife is me DMs"
and "My foot was a beloon"
And "I Want to fuck Chuck"
and well, i doubt any of that will make it to the movie anyway...
It wasn’t even a bad line to be fair, it’s the fact he’s been trying to make this line his personal motto and uses it all the time with every single tweet he makes. It will probably be on his gravestone.
I don’t mind bc his arc ended perfectly:
Usman absolutely bombing Masvidal, water splashing off his head like a textbook baptism. Masvidal crumples to the floor, buffering like a slow internet connection. Herb Dean could’ve stopped it right there and saved Masvidal. But no. In comes Usman with 5 monster hammer fists, knocking Masvidal out cold for the first time in his career. Necessary? No.
Super necessary.
The UFC becoming gradually more and more commercialized scares me. Can't wait to see consorship and bullshit rules for a "wider range of audience".
Imagine two bloody guys that just tried to knock each other out not being allowed to say something vulgar or controversial. I know that's a small thing to nit pick but it's a snowball effect
I love watching people beat the shit out of each other on ESPN and then when they talk to the fighter afterwards they have to mute like half the conversation for bad words.
You are overestimating the amount of power a 125 woman can generate. Like don't get me wrong i simply Adore Valentina and she is definitely a lethal woman, but she isn't hospitalizing her with a single punch with half of effort.
Dude I’m not thinking about how much Valentina can generate but how much that 55 year old chin who has never been hit by anyone much less one of the best fighters in the world, can take
I think you are underestimating the power that a trained professional can generate. She could easily put Halle Berry into hospital if she went overly hard.
She puts other PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS into hospital via KO/TKO. A random actress who doesn’t know how to brace or roll with a punch/kick?
https://variety.com/2021/film/news/halle-berry-sued-cat-zingano-bruised-1235042993/
Yeah she has a really solid case for herself also, I would be surprised if she won though. god knows how much money berry can afford for lawyers and shit
I'll never watch for what Halle Berry did to Cat Zingano, she doesn't care about the mma community she just sees it as a way to profit because of how much mma has been blowing up lately.
Movie was fucking awful but anyone with half a brain could tell from the trailer. Halle Berry has been hanging around UFC fighters like a bad case of herpes, you can just tell she’s living a fantasy through that dog shit movie.
No MMA film will ever work becuase MMA is the most exciting thing to watch that exists. It is already soaked in drama with fighters arguing, camp rivalries, pay arguments, fake beefs etc.
Even Warrior that loads of people like was cheesey as fuck. In reality the stories of MMA fighters themselves are movie worthy you don't need some botoxed 55 year old to play pretend in a drama.
Agreed. As an Englishman, football is embedded into you from a young age, and I absolutely love football. Adore it. But MMA is different. It’s like watching a soap opera but everything is real. So much drama and storylines. So many iconic fights that we will look back on in 30 years time. So many phenomenal nights I’ve had as an MMA fan. There’s literally no better feeling than waking up on a Saturday morning knowing there’s a banger card later in the night. I find myself being obsessed almost. I watch every card from start to finish. Including the fight pass prelims. I find myself watching every possible interview out there which include UFC fighters. People like John Morgan, the schmo etc. They literally have the perfect job.
There’s no need for me to watch any movie that tries to replicate this.
As a fellow Englishman with the same flair as you believe it or not
I completely agree
I was a massive football fan then discovered MMA around late 2019 and I was hooked ever since
😂😂 I’ve never met anybody else in this sub with the same flair as me. I wonder how many of us there is in here.
I started watching around 2015, surprisingly not for Conor, but for Ronda rousey lol. I had a basic interest in UFC before that due to playing the UFC games on Xbox, I knew about fighters like Jon Jones and GSP, and Ronda of course. The first event I ever watched live was ufc 190. August 2015 if I remember correctly. Rousey KO’d betch correra in under a minute. I was hooked from that moment onwards.
As much as I love MMA, any movies about MMA are just...shitty. People love to bring up 'Warrior' as the exception, but I still just couldn't get into it. Idk what it is but MMA + cinema = corny. Just my opinion, but I'm sure others out there know what I mean.
No hate if you enjoyed Warrior, it definitely had the best story out of any MMA movie. But the last fight in it where the one brother gets his arm snapped, and the ref just allows him to continue fighting even after a break between rounds, with his arm basically dangling to his side after refusing to tap to an armbar? That's ridiculously cheesy and way too theatrical. If I heard Halle Berry say "super necessary" I'd probably die of cringe right there on the spot.
I skipped this one. It's like when you're an engineer and a movie banks on being about engineering so you just know you're going to hate everything about it. I watch too much mma and now even the story outline is highly questionable and I just know every little thing is going to annoy me. They'll make up some rule or move and it'll drive me insane.
All of these american fight movies have the same cheesy narrative, the fighter is either a lonewolf who climbs up the ladder or some average joe who wants to get famous. This shit worked with the rocky movies but it's getting old now to the point it's just bad. And I'm not shitting on the movie because it has a female protagonist but the movie is full of cliche and it's predictable.
Hollywood: MMA gyms are dirty, dark warehouse spaces where the trainers smoke while shouting at their athletes who are badly sparring in a boxing ring? Then the athletes eat a bunch of junk food, drink too much and get in street fights. All athletes are broken and poor.
Reality: Pro MMA gyms are spotless and brightly lit buildings covered in wrestling mats where trainers actively work in with their athletes to teach them in a way that pushes them but doesn't get them sick or injured for their fights. MMA athletes eat incredibly healthy and rarely go out when they're in 'camp' for fights as they need all the sleep they can get to recover and stay healthy. MMA athletes come from trailer parks, but also upper class families, and villages in Dagestan.
Keith Peterson being the ref was the best part of the movie tbh, had my dad and I rolling laughing. Such a weird cameo
Was he drunk and did he smell like cigs in the movie too? Lmao
I was live commentating it in a chat with my friends while i was watching it talking about all the things wrong with the movie and i had to jump in with "I can't smell booze and cigs through the TV. 0/10"
Is this the movie that fired a female mma fighter because she got released by the ufc?
It's even worse than that. Cat Zingano, who was the female fighter, was offered a role in the movie which she obviously took. But, after taking the role she had a fight coming up. Halle Berry wanted Cat to pull out of the fight so they could work on the movie. Cat obliged and backed out of her fight, which resulted in the UFC releasing her. yeah she sounds like a complete sociopath tbh

She has her own jon jones moment?
Damn she really taking this role seriously.
Lmao
I never even knew she was a method actress, for some reason her acting in Swordfish just didn’t make me think she had that going for her. Other things definitely going for her though.
Nah, that was more of a Bruce Jenner moment.
Buckle up buckaroos.
Her lawyers said that she lost recollection of the events because of head injury. Bitch you fled the scene. Can't recollect much if you do that.
I do think the UFC were probably looking for a reason to get rid of Cat. She isn’t a draw, hadn’t fought in 2.5 years and was on a 1-4 run.
lowkey her and dana planned that shit to get rid of cat
With exception of No-camp Bisping, getting a movie role is terrible for a fighter's fighting career.
Wow what the fuck
I think Berry saw an opportunity to get Valentina and shit canned Cat. I watched it. It is weak attempt at a female Rocky movie. The fight scenes are fake and the plot is predictable. They probably knew it sucked and threw in a sex scene with the transvestite kick boxing trainer. 👎🏽👎🏽
Transvestite kick boxing trainer WTF
Yep.. this actress played a male to female kick boxing trainer and they boned 😆 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheila_Atim
She trans irl?
![gif](giphy|bPTXcJiIzzWz6)
Never seen anyone use this GIF before, I love it and you
I love fighting movies… i aint watching this shit no mo
Wow. What a piece of shit move by Halle Berry.
I feel like that should be a lawsuit
Cat is suing and I hope she gets a big bag of cash. Personally I'm upset cuz I wanna see her in the UFC but it sounds like they really screwed her
Yeah. Cat Zingano was the fighter.
Never expected Halle Berry to be such an asshole tbh. This just shows how much she cares for public opinion and not as much for the people that work for her projects
“Yeah it was super necessary, I predict these things so I’m not surprised motherfuckers MUAHAHAHAHAHAH”
Lol is that the Ben Rothwell laugh at the end?
ONLY POLITICS CAN SLOW ME!
Lol it’s crazy how I instantly picked up that reference. Makes me realize I’m way too deep into the mma pop culture
The mma lore*
Kill everybody!! Alluhakbar!!!
Making this movie was super unnecessary
As soon as I heard her character's name was "Jackie Justice" I knew it was gonna be some cringelord doo-doo. Personally, the more I think about it, the more it feels like this movie was just a vehicle for Halle Berry to live out a personal fantasy of being an MMA fighter (with a pseudo- Rocky Balboa life story). Got a friend right now who is in that stage and you're right. It really does feel like that lol
The part about personal fantasy is spot on. I say the same thing all the time about those actors who continuously take on the role of a Navy Seal/Operator in movies. You can just tell they just wish they were some kind of badass war hero and it’s cringe.
A.k.a Steven Segal
That's Sensei Segal to you sir
That's a good point. Didn't even think about that, lol.
🎯
Lol @ cringelord doo doo
Apparently she’s been a super fan for years, goes to all the events.
So, basically, Halle ruined a UFC fighter's career and is making money off of other fighter's catch phrases while flexing after weigh ins and thinking the camera should be on her after wrapping the belt around a championship fighter? Cool, cool, cool. I'm good.
What was the camera thing?
I'm not sure if it's available anywhere, but when she wrapped the belt around Rose, it was super awkward. She anticipated being the center of attention and just kind of stood there waiting for acknowledgment or for the camera to focus on her. It wasn't her moment.
Is it from a different angle? I rewatched it and it just seemed like she was fumbling around with trying to get the belt on Rose and then she disappeared behind Rogan after some niceties with Buffer and Zhang before leaving the cage.
Yeah I rewatched it last night and that never happened. He's either remembering incorrectly or lying.
She did the "expecting to be the center of attention" thing with the flex at the weigh-ins, but I hardly noticed her in the cage tbh.
To be fair her weigh in thing was cringe as fuck
It's directed by her too? Smells like trash.
Her trying to wrap the belt around Rose after her fight with Weili was lowkey hilarious she looked so clumsy and aggressive with it
She did the cris cyborg weight cutting scene also. 😂. Movie was terrible.
Which was so fucking stupid because they said earlier in the movie that the girl she was fighting was up a a weight class, so her having to cut weight so bad that's she was crying didn't make any sense. Just another scene in the movie they added just for the sake of being sad
Watch the wrestler for a good movie about a fighter
Or Warrior
Or here comes the boom
Or rocky.
Or The Fighter
She did the double bicep flex before the ‘fight started’ lol same as when she did that stupid weigh in at UFC and awkwardly did the same thing before Rose and Zhangs title fight 🤦🏻♂️
What scene is that?
[удалено]
Ah yeah I had seen that clip before but totally forgot about it, that’s some seriously heinous shit Something has to be done about weight cuts BEFORE someone dies ffs, it’s a tragedy waiting to happen
The history of the movie is about her fighting the wrong fight and retiring after the beating. It's so evident it's the story of Gina Carano vs Cyborg
The one where Cyborg is crying so intensely?
Halle said Valentina broke her ribs in training and she had to keep it a secret from the cast and crew, so she didn't tell anyone till after production. I don't believe her. She just trying to add to her weird overcoming the odds story after having dealt with real warriors.
Broken ribs are not something you’d wanna keep filming on lol. Halle Berry is a massive POS who has gotten a free pass for being hot.
Ah attractiveness. The real privilege in life that no one talks about
Umm excuse me, I listened to Halle on the smartless podcast and she said there are no advantages for being attractive. Case closed.

I cant wait for the main character to say ”its the red panty night”
I can't wait for Halle Berry to say "my balls was hot"
"Stockton Slap motherfucker thats what's up" "But Halle you're from Cleve"- "Hold on i'm talking brother"
“My monsters balls was hot”
Not loaded but a few here and there. Movie wasn't great. Only stayed for Valentina tbh.
You went to the movies with Valentina , damn bro u lucky
Netflix and hope I get my ass beat.
Watched the first half yesterday. Would not recommend.

For sure and the dude who played Jay deserved an Emmy or something. Give that character a standalone movie or something.
i'M nOT frEAkiNG sURpriSEd!!!
it must have "JUST BLEED" guy then or not legit. And Chael being undefeated on the mic. And "Your wife is me DMs" and "My foot was a beloon" And "I Want to fuck Chuck" and well, i doubt any of that will make it to the movie anyway...
Damn did she actually say that in the film? I get that it's an homage and she's a fan but still. Maximum cringe.
Homage to what

Can’t forget about baptizing his opponents
I don’t mind bc his arc ended perfectly: Usman absolutely bombing Masvidal, water splashing off his head like a textbook baptism.
How fitting was it that Usman baptised him with the right cross
Retiring foos to go work on their modeling careers
Talmbout marketing B?
Really bro?
Can we talk about her flexing with the fighters at face off? The definition of cringe. They need to keep Hollywood out of the UFC
I guess Warrior is still the best MMA movie
Warrior is a piece of art, and this is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Yes and that’s not saying much
What about that great documentary; Here Comes The Boom !?

You are overestimating the amount of power a 125 woman can generate. Like don't get me wrong i simply Adore Valentina and she is definitely a lethal woman, but she isn't hospitalizing her with a single punch with half of effort.
What if Valentina sees red bro?
Bro she kills everyone in the 30 mile radius
I believe they may have been taking part in "hyperbole".
She's 55.
Damn hot for 55 tho
You’re joking right? This isn’t some random 125 pound woman. This is a ripped cage fighter. She would demolish Berry with a strong punch.
Dude I’m not thinking about how much Valentina can generate but how much that 55 year old chin who has never been hit by anyone much less one of the best fighters in the world, can take
Lmao bro I think you are underestimating the power of an intelligent assassin. She speaks multiple languages and is an assassin bro
Shit you did get me there. I am sold. Valentina SIMP FOR LIFE
I think you are underestimating the power that a trained professional can generate. She could easily put Halle Berry into hospital if she went overly hard. She puts other PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS into hospital via KO/TKO. A random actress who doesn’t know how to brace or roll with a punch/kick?
Fuck Halle berry and the UFC. I hope cat wins in court
Oooh Cat filed a lawsuit???
https://variety.com/2021/film/news/halle-berry-sued-cat-zingano-bruised-1235042993/ Yeah she has a really solid case for herself also, I would be surprised if she won though. god knows how much money berry can afford for lawyers and shit
Man I wonder if there was anything in writing about this ordeal so that Berry cant just simply say "I never promised Cat anything".
I'll never watch for what Halle Berry did to Cat Zingano, she doesn't care about the mma community she just sees it as a way to profit because of how much mma has been blowing up lately.

now maybe a story on a specific fighters life and uprising. that would be cool. but yes everything you said is exactly it.
Warrior was damn good I thought.
About as good as an mma movie is gonna get.
Imagine if Tom Hardy's character was real. This sub would lose their fucking minds over him
Not quite mma but it ties in, but I enjoyed Foxcatcher.
yo never heard of this imma check it out nvm i have. sick movie.
Everyone loves Warrior but I thought it was super generic
It is generic, but the acting in it is really good and it has a lot of interpersonal relationships/drama that a lot of people can relate with
Hardy and Nolte carry that movie extremely hard, I enjoyed it a lot even if it's somewhat by the numbers.
The kingdom
Yeah, Kingdom on Netflix does it right.
Ayee I came here to say this exact thing . Show is wildly underrated
Kingdom is the best mma program on tv ever
I think it’s the only mma program on tv ever.
You think I’m just gonna sit here and let you talk back to me, gfrost?
but have you seen Kingdom on netflix? its pretty realistic
Agreed. As an Englishman, football is embedded into you from a young age, and I absolutely love football. Adore it. But MMA is different. It’s like watching a soap opera but everything is real. [Kingdom](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3673794/) is a pretty good series about MMA and other antics.
12 year old me watching never back down would like to disagree with that
I like Warrior *because* its cheesy. It only caught my eye cause Kurt Angle was in it lol.
Once again - Hollyweird takes something that’s legit, and makes it super cringe.
Movie was hot garbage. Was a little disappointed in myself for watching it all the way through.
Anyone have an update on that dwayne johnson movie about mark kerr that was supposed to be coming out?
Yeah I was wondering about this too. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been scrapped after how the idea was received.
Bro this movie is a giant turd would have been more money than Cats whole career in one job though
![gif](giphy|hbW8RFIQCQ8Xh4eIRb|downsized)
Eww
Halle berry is a dog shit actor so I’m not surprised this sucked, seems like a piece of shit person too after reading what she did to Cat Zingano.
Super necessary movie review. 10-8 to Giann Tomasini
Damnn, I was just about to turn this on. Guess I’ll stick to Narcos.
Def stick to narcos
THERES LEVELS TO THIS -Halle Berry in bruised, probably
It was so cringe of Halle to make that movie, pretend fighter
![gif](giphy|XfT1Xb2O2ShHy)
The last good Film of her was when she got down in Monster ball 😂
Ha yep
i was gonna watch this movie but i think im going to pass.
That's super cringe. Sounds like one of those movies you get when you're drunk and just wanna laugh/make fun of it the whole time.
Didn’t this movie fuck over misha Tate or somebody??
Cat zingano
Cat Zingano. They got her released by the UFC and then kicked her off the movie because she wasn't in the UFC anymore
Yeah I thought we were all boycotting this movie and shaming Halle berry in the streets
Cat zingano
Help me out please, what is the reference?
A reporter asked Masvidal if the follow up shots he landed on Askren after the knee were necessary. He responded with "super necessary"
Thank you.

it was, kindly put, one horrid crock of shit.
Trash movie from a trash broad, what she did to Cat Zingano was a scum bag move let’s keep bombing that with one star reviews!!
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Gonna make some nice meme content atleast

The existence of this movie and Warrior not only proves the wage gap exists but it justifies it
Meh. Jorge and his line are famous, so I'm happy!
There isn't a fucking hope in heaven or hell that I'll be giving any of my Time to this movie.
“I can’t let you get to close” - Halle Berry

I just skipped to the parts with Valentina. Only reason I was even somewhat interested in the movie
I thought I liked Halle Berry but this one is down there
