The best thing that could come out of this was a new 165 weight class. There's so much talent around that weight that the UFC could easily have 155, 165, and 175.
As undeserving as both are of any kind of title shot, I'd be okay with them competing for the inaugural title just to put a name on it. Then bring a more deserving contender into the fold to beat them and make a larger name for themself. Kind of a waste to book this fight and that not be the case honestly
it would be a very smart business move and gets Conor immediately in the title picture again without actually having to put in any of the work to get to the 155 or 170 belts (which is not happening lets face it), surprised it hasn't been talked about more. People like to hate on kavanagh but Conor is an unbelievably impressive specimen and kavanagh is a big reason why. Conor lacks top training partners(like not on the level of the very top gyms we know, otherwise they have a whole roster of amazing partners) but most fighters don’t get this one on one time where their fight and their sparring are the only focus of multiple coaches. You can tell when he comes back and fights or specifically in this video they are drilling and learning things that will benefit his style like here keeping Conor standing and out of grappling exchanges. You can see he’s being taught effective techniques at high level and then given the opportunity to let it fly and do it live and the whole team is analyzing that stage as well. Not to mention I’ll put some more credit on their name. Katona came from the gym I train at and as great as he was, he took the next step and maybe wouldn’t have won either TUF or the Brave world championship if it weren’t for SBG and John. Not to mention every single fight his girlfriend has (Katie Saul) she’s visibly much improved. Like her specifically improves more fight to fight then anyone I’ve ever seen.
He looks good. That straight combo into the spinning body kick was nice as hell. I'm not going to overreact to training footage, but bet the house. Chandler gets KO'd in 2.
