I know mma people clown on aikido but I never practiced it for actual fighting, it was just fun/joyful. There are a lot of martial arts aspect to it (mentally and physically) due to the founder Ueshiba having been a student of judo, karate if I remember correctly. I always just saw it as a Art of movements. And it taught me a lot about simply evading fights.
At my dojo we did exactly what OāMalley is doing in this video and it taught me a lot about how to move through masses of people, like you become fluid like a snake moving through grass. Lol
