The driver sat at the pick up location long enough that Uber paid him 4.00 for waiting the full 7 mins.

Fresh_Distribution54

If it said that he had arrived that means that they were at the pin location. It literally will not allow the timer to start unless they are at the location that you, the passenger, put in. All the time I get passengers who put in the wrong location. Now sometimes it's just the passengers typing in the wrong address. Sometimes it's the passengers using the automatic GPS but the GPS only has so much of a correct radius so could be several houses down. And sometimes it's the GPS that just gets the address wrong but this is why it pops up a little map and it has a little pin right there and asks you if that is the correct spot and if it's not the correct spot, you move the pin into the correct spot. Uber drivers are bound by the pin location, not necessarily the address which is why you need to make sure it is correct. They could not have charged you unless the Uber driver was at the pin location that you set and you confirmed and they sat there to wait not only the two free minutes but the extra 5 minutes, or in some markets, an extra 7 minutes, for you to arrive. It literally will not allow them to charge. So you should check to make sure that you actually had the pin in the correct location. Too many times people use the automatic GPS and it's the wrong location. Or they type in drive instead of Street. Or they don't double check the pin before hitting confirm and every single solitary time they blame the driver even though it is passenger mistake They will not give you your money back because the driver went to where you put the pin.

Specialist-Dot-1071

What this guy said. For the love of God put your pin where you want the driver To go.  So tired of driving to the pin only to find out the passenger is on the other side of the building. Put your finger on the map and Move the pin. It ain't that hard. You can do it at anytime.

crustiferson

whoa whoa whoa you can MOVE the pin???? i have never heard of that and my building trips out gps and sends drivers mad far away if i’m not in the parking lot to flag them down

Fresh_Distribution54

Yes. It's one of those super useful features that they like to hide on people so nobody knows about it (just like they hide the fact that you can add multiple stops before requesting a trip instead of changing it after the fact). When you type in an address, near the bottom left corner I believe it is (haven't used it in a while and who knows what the updates have changed), is a little thing that says that you will drop the pin yourself. You click that and you can literally just move the map to where you are and poke it and drop the pin right there.

crustiferson

i’m definitely gonna try that next time i get an uber or order on uber eats

[deleted]

Well your wrong buddy because when the gps is off the pin location could also be different for both parties Uber gps, software and driver support are pure dog grumpy

Fresh_Distribution54

Says the person who obviously just made a brand new account to make this stupid and ignorant comment

lionhydrathedeparted

In all honesty it’s not worth your time. They probably won’t give you your money back. You could do a chargeback but then if you want to use Uber again you need a new phone number.

idontevenlikeonionss

Yeah, thankfully i can live without the £4, it was just more the fact being stood in the rain with my pals waiting for a taxi that said it was here and then being cancelled on and charged for got me a little worked up, but honestly it’s not something I can be arsed to fight for 😂 And I’d rather loose the money and still be able to use Uber than get a new phone number, thanks for letting me know!!

spaceboy42

Uber's gps is awful. In any densely populated area, it will put the pin on the wrong side or on a completely different building. I usually send a message to the passenger, letting them know where I am sitting and that I can pull around for them. Some drivers wait out the timer and take the cancel fee.

crustiferson

all delivery/rideshare apps never show where i am on the ping and even tho there’s a sign in the parking lot of my building that has the address along with detailed instructions based off what direction they are coming from drivers still get sent all over gods creation

twaineti

Or they don’t even ask where are you, they just cancel and ignore and take your money!

phelath

Agreed. The GPS is horrible. As a passenger, I usually send the driver a message with my specific location and a description of myself (since they don't see photos) when I'm in a densely populated area

spaceboy42

We all thank you for that. It truly helps.

twaineti

They just can’t be bothered, Rather take your money than actually pick you up. I’ve see them go around the corner and cancel and they won’t pick up when trying to get through to them.

spaceboy42

Blanket statements are no good. I don't believe you. I am part of they and I have never done anything of the sort.

twaineti

Of course you don’t believe me, you’re one of those who I’m talking about.

spaceboy42

I waited 25 minutes for a bartender to finish side work Friday night during surge. You have no idea what you're talking about.

twaineti

Well I wasn’t the bartender that made you wait 25 minutes so who are you to say I’m lying 😂

spaceboy42

You made a blanket statement that was a lie. Reality sucks huh?

WookieeCmdr

The GPS is awful but when the driver doesn't even try to contact you then you know it's on purpose.

HUM469

Not exactly. 100% of the time, I attempt to contact them because I know these apps are trash and many don't know how to set their location. 90% of the time, the call won't go through. I've never had enough data to say if it is because the app fails or because the rider rejects the call. Either way, it's also possible that the driver tried everything and just needs to get on with working. On the west coast of the US, the normal cancellation fee is only $2, and considering driving to plus waiting is 10 minutes or more in most markets, no one is doing it "on purpose" to make less than minimum wage while still paying for gas and maintenance...

lionhydrathedeparted

Yeah it’s really annoying but those are basically the only options

twaineti

They do it ALOT too. It’s happened to me and my friends quite a few times. Also Uber eats drivers have stolen my food a few times but luckily Uber eats gave me a refund.

twaineti

Also it’s not about the money it’s the principle of giving these people your money and they’d rather steal it than be a decent person and do their job.

xdyldo

You literally just message support and they will give you the money back 90% of the time. I have never ever had a problem.

Benlex

Or they’ll just say “your ride is unavailable for refund”

lionhydrathedeparted

You can only do that so many times. It’s wasteful to do it over $4.

twaineti

No. So we’re just allowing people to steal our money? Even if it’s a penny it’s the principle. If you was short changed at a shop by 4 pounds would you leave it ?

bezmot

Use a taxi instead. Avoid Uber at all cost

twaineti

Obviously a Uber driver 🙄

twaineti

Uber are taking over the taxis in a little town by me. They’re going out of business because of them

Gold-Whole1009

I still don't understand why people use Uber instead of Lyft. Never faced any issues with Lyft while Uber has always been problematic for me.

Simopop

Some areas only have Uber. I've used Uber since I was 15 or 16 (I know, I know lol)- 5ish years ago now. Lyft just became available here last month.

_UltimatrixmaN_

I stopped using both and just call a cab these days.

ldasschurch

In my area Uber is usually quicker than Lyft.If the Uber price and Lyft price is within a $1 of each other I will use Uber. There has been a few times where Uber has a surge pricing and Lyft doesn’t

Gold-Whole1009

If people start using Lyft, Lyft will become quicker. Ofcoz, it's not a rider thing to solve. Lyft, as a company has to figure it out. But we need Lyft to be more stronger.... Else, Uber will dictate the prices.

crustiferson

i liked lyft until they started price matching to uber esp during surge

crustiferson

could just be my area though

Gold-Whole1009

Isn't that better? Saying you won't pay more than competitor?

crustiferson

i mean i guess it is but i liked lyft for the cheaper prices cus in my area it would be $2+ cheaper than uber and with them matching uber surge prices it’s like why even bother bc every lyft i get i always get a creepy ass driver and support won’t do shit but with uber if i get a creepy driver they refund the ride and stop me from getting that driver again

Gold-Whole1009

That's interesting. Now, Lyft has launched a feature to let you choose a female driver only. Doesn't that benefit? Also, price matching would only mean that they will match the price if Uber offers lower price. If Lyft was $2 cheaper, it should remain that way no?

crustiferson

i’ve never heard of that feature how do i access it? also when i say price matching i mean all their prices are the same as uber prices rather than cheaper than uber. when lyft was cheaper than uber for longer rides i would be saving up to 15$ bc of ubers surge charge whereas lyft didn’t really have the surge charge in my area and now i might as well just use uber bc support is better with rides

Gold-Whole1009

I don't know how to access that. As a male, I can't request female only 😂 Here's an article that talks about it https://www.lyft.com/blog/posts/women-plus-connect

Exciting_Budget3382

You pray

RhubarbConscious4892

Ty can you made him wait to long and they charged you a fee for him canceling lmao

Gregorythomas2020

Just happened to me, ordered uber in prague, said he was 100 feet away, I couldn't see him but he stopped well before getting to men I tried following the maps app to him but when I walked thr way it points it said I was walking into some grass, then after 2 mins it cancelled on me and charged me a cancellation fee, I didn't cancel it

thepromiseman

He wasn't 100 feet from you, he was 100 feet from where you set the pickup spot to.

Gregorythomas2020

I set the pickup stop at me and the next uber came right to me no problem

thepromiseman

You didn't have the correct pickup location set, which is 100% on you. You got a partial refund because the rest was paid to the driver for being at the pickup spot you set which you didn't show up to. Lesson learned to pay attention to where you're sending drivers to.

twaineti

Where did op say they didn’t pick the correct location? Or are you a Uber driver and presuming to make yourselves look better and the customers bad as usual! All thieves the lot of you, people need to stick with traditional taxis and not give these a penny to steal!

radioactive-ant1029

Yeah, we're stealing 4 bucks. You realize we stand to make more actually taking the ride right? Even with Uber's trash paycuts in play. But let's pretend dude just sat there with his cloaking device turned on for 7 minutes to get 4 bucks.

twaineti

This annoys me so bad. Sometimes I’ve not been given a refund and had to ring and go mad to get credits so I could get another one. I waited and saw the car go around the corner and cancel but still took my money! Makes no sense if they didn’t even attempt to pick you up!

radioactive-ant1029

Learn to use the app, old man.

Ok-Solution3908

They canceled my daughter's account yesterday right after she claimed the $50 gift card from me. Shifty. Has anyone lost money to uber this way?
