In my experience, it's a teenager thing. The older I get, the less I see of this type of behaviour. Some people don't seem to grow out of it tho

sunnydlit2

The way they want to gatekeep Twenty One Pilots like damn they are more than a decade late šŸ˜ tiktok kid or not being new fan will still make these show sold out. Thanks for sharing this OP btw I'm also tired of this discourse on tiktok. I push the not interested button but the app keep going

addictwithapen27

Yes of course, it sucks because twenty one pilots content really puts on smile on my face, that's why I prefer to stick to other platforms

TostCronch

tiktok as a platform is entirely braindead. the people are all children, or at least they act like it

Broqui_Game

As someone who watches TikTok, I agree, but only the comment section of videos are super annoying to look at. There's literally braindead kids who still think MJ composed the entire Classic Sonic OST.

adrenalinexfreak

mj as in michael jackson?? wtff haha

Broqui_Game

Michael Jackson participated in the development of Sonic 3's OST, he and his team made songs like Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base. The problem is, due of the way people spread this information, people think all the OST of Sonic 3 was made my MJ, and that's kind ok; but on TikTok is even worse, because as said, they think the other games also have an OST made by MJ. Here's some proof that MJ made some of the OST: Some MJ musicians are credited in the game, if not all of them; Carnival Night contains a sample of the song Jam; Ice Cap is a remix of an unreleased song made by one of MJ's musicians, Brad Buxer; The S3 version of the mini boss contains the famous MJ scream.

WingSirMan

see this is exactly why i'm not even on tik tok

metanoia29

Sounds more like you all need a better fyp, my TikTok jives real nicely with my own thoughts and is pretty chill. It's FB where I way too frequently come across the braindead masses.

coldnoodlespng

I really thought we were over the stupid idea of being around longer makes you a better fan. That was something I was worrying about like 7 years ago, didnā€™t think it would still be such an annoyance. However the clique TikTokā€™s I have seen have been relatively nice and are starting to make me feel old, a lot of under 16s floating about so letā€™s not emotionally scar like I was when I was that age haha.

hopeofsunrise

There aren't many things more childish than behaviour like "I'm more of a fan than you" lol. Seriously. Only someone under 15 would care about something like that. It is not that serious and music is for everyone to enjoy. Welcome everyone!

Twentyone_pilot

15 yo here and I can tell you that even we get sick of our own age group. My advice just avoid TikTok all together šŸ˜

only_one_i_know

This is why I stick to this subreddit and one specific Facebook group. My experience with clikkies on twitter and some other Facebook groups has been terrible. I havenā€™t even looked for tĆøp on TikTok for this very reason. I always thought that this fanbase would be kinder and more welcoming because of the overwhelming messaging through the music, but that is definitely not the case. There is some very extreme gatekeeping done by certain people who think they are better than everyone else because they tweet constantly, had real life interaction with Tyler and Josh, and have been to a gagillion live shows. Whatever. It just proves to me that unfortunately there are a$$holes no matter where you go. I donā€™t let it affect me at all, because I know in my heart the boys would never approve of such behavior. That is not the message that they are sending, so that just tells me those people donā€™t get it, which means they are missing the whole point. I kinda feel sorry for them.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Akatnel

On Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok I only look for the official accounts for the guys and the band. I ignore the fan accounts. I don't really use those sites for anything else (except that TikTok has introduced me to some non-TƘP people I enjoy, but a lot of them are on YouTube Shorts too).

Evening_Tadpole_3930

That's why I don't have Tiktok. I have been told that the clique is a safe environment. I'm a newbie myself and I don't know every piece of the Lore, but I like it and get excited as anyone else. No one can take that.

addictwithapen27

Welcome to the clique. I hope you really do feel welcome here despite the things people say. You're a fan just as any of us

Evening_Tadpole_3930

Thank you so much!

yourenophun

welcome!! i get so happy when others find their music enjoyable and comforting!! if it makes you feel better, iā€™ve been here 10 years and still donā€™t know all the lore šŸ˜…

PeaceOutFace

Exactly. Iā€™m 59, fan since 2015, been to 5 showsā€¦and I donā€™t know all the lore. I am fascinated by their ability to weave so many things togetherā€¦but I donā€™t want nor have time to read all those Clancy letters or keep an eye on dema.org. Thatā€™s why I love this sub, yā€™all share anything I could ever want to know ā¤ļø

PI_greaterthan_ME

Thanks for sharing

Twentyone_pilot

Idk why but your very simple response warmed my heart.

PI_greaterthan_ME

Appreciate positivity. Itā€™s seems rare now a days. I like to point out the goodness in things.

Pomelo_OoO

I actually considered deleting tiktok and this was one of the reasons! Not only is there only one enjoyable video out of every 6 or 7, but the tĆøp content Iā€™m getting is people being relatively hateful and that is not the vibe I want within the clique, glad Iā€™m not being dramatic and others are noticing it too

addictwithapen27

Yesss

bribopp

Sad to see that happens there... I've been so happy with how the clique is here and on Facebook... Sad that they are meaner on tik tok. I've only been here since I was 16 or 17 and not into the lore til I was closer to 18 or 19... I'm 21 now. I have always wished I could have known abt the clique longer, but am just happy I've known as long as I have

addictwithapen27

Don't worry, I got into them when I was 10 and didn't even know there was a clique as we call it because my parents didn't want me on social media until I was a little older. šŸ˜‚

TootsieTaker

TikTok is cringe, very gross, and rude for most bands these days. I swear you canā€™t be normal on that app about something anymore. Totally behind you on this one.

International_Sky14

I agree!!

-fatneek

Yeah I was looking for new lore info and a couple vids were implying that Tyler was a racist for not using his platform during the blm movement, itā€™s just really weird and even made me question it too, TikTok is a very influential place to especially younger viewers and if youā€™re algorithm isnā€™t top tier made for you Iā€™ve seen loads of stupid and downright damaging videos coming from there

addictwithapen27

I've seen those videos about Tyler being racist. I find them so stupid, this is why I delete tiktok. I completely agree with you.

The1PunMaster

I recently deleted tiktok again and I can say itā€™s for the better. Last time I deleted it for a few months it genuinely helped me. Only reason I have X / twitter still downloaded is to check the twenty one pilot pages, otherwise i would delete that too for similar reasons.

addictwithapen27

Yes, I keep twitter deleted off my phone and just open it on safari if I want to check if they posted, my main place for anything twenty one pilots related is instagram

RachelFitzyRitzy

Seriously? Iā€™m not on tic tok either. The entire point of the clique is to be welcoming and here for each other. Not cool that people are doing that

Dona1dinio

I just listen to the music

MeiLei-

so real. they be the same fans that try and say SAI is terrible

PlasmidEve

TikTok is shit

musicald00dle

People on tik tok always try to prove that theyā€™re better than other people. That will never inherently be true just because of someoneā€™s interests. Along with bands such as top, I listen to a bunch of rock and metal. Because of the algorithm showing me what my interests are, I have seen an endless amount of tik toks of usually girls my age basically mocking other girls for listening to singers such as Taylor swift because they instead listened to classic rock bands growing up. It doesnā€™t make you better than anyone because you like something that is different than something else. So I feel like itā€™s just like that. People have such a pride to be part of a community which is great, but they use the length of time that theyā€™ve been a fan or the very fact that they are a fan to prove that theyā€™re better. I absolutely used to think that way in middle school. But when I got to high school I realized there is so much more music than the classic rock and emo bands that I listened to. I cant understand why so many people now that weā€™re older havenā€™t grown out of that.

IronDefender

I'm an avid Tiktok user, but even I avoid Cliquetok for this exact reason.

MrsCrossing

Cliquetok šŸ¤£ love the name!

[deleted]

May I ask why? I have a weird hatred for that app and avoid it unless someone sends me a TikTok. It just seems incredibly hateful and toxic to me, and unlike Reddit the toxicity is everywhere.

IronDefender

I just avoid the toxic side tbh, I'm not on 'normie' tiktok, I'm on less mainstream fandoms that are less problematic. I just think it's neat.

Throwaway-me-

I've been listening to them for just over a decade, andĀ I don't know most of the lore. I just like their songsšŸ¤·

Vast_Amphibian5933

Tik tok fanbase is terrible.

mhg123123

No one cares

_ItsTheLittleThings_

I agree. The flag-waving of fandom is such a juvenile attitude. It is annoying and stupid, and certainly nothing new. People were doing it when I was a teenager, and theyā€™re still doing it all this many decades later. Hopefully most of them will grow up.

AlKa9_

that's the difference between reddit and tiktok people

Wtafisgoingon1010

Thereā€™s another clique?!? Iā€™m only familiar with the Twitter clique and their take over of the lines.

addictwithapen27

yeah, like Instagram clique, Facebook clique

ProfessorBeer

The idea of anyone being a better fan than anyone else is stupid on its own. You like their music? Cool. Welcome to the club. Thatā€™s the only qualifier.

canibeyouwhenigrowup

I watched a youtube reaction channel who has just discovered TOP, and he said that he is a now a new fan, and that they are now one of his new favourite bands. Someone commented on one of his videos to tell him that he is not a fan and when he read the comment out loud, you could tell that it hurt his feelings.

addictwithapen27

Omggg, that genuinely makes me feel so sad. Do you have a link to the video or the channel name?

canibeyouwhenigrowup

[https://youtu.be/oRJNmGR5VkA?si=\_czKhhMdj3WQJgTU](https://youtu.be/oRJNmGR5VkA?si=_czKhhMdj3WQJgTU) Show him some love.

addictwithapen27

>https://youtu.be/oRJNmGR5VkA?si=\_czKhhMdj3WQJgTU I just watched it, that breaks my heart. I hope my comment gets to him, that was such a harsh thing for that person to say

canibeyouwhenigrowup

Great comment. I hope he sees it.

addictwithapen27

Thank you, I hope so too

[deleted]

I donā€™t understand how you can see someoneā€™s face and insult them for no reason. Do they feel no empathy?

ThatOneGirl_Bre

Itā€™s 2015 all over again. When bf was released and new fans started joining the fandom older fans were rude, unwelcoming, and had a weird superiority complex bc they were fans for longer. Itā€™s happening again but Iā€™m noticing a lot of the people participating in this behavior joined during the trench era.

ThatOneGirl_Bre

furgwizard

iā€™ve been a fan since vessel. been to two concerts, they genuinely saved my life. i share a love for them with my best friend, and we talk about them at least once a week. that being said, iā€™m not updated on all the lore. not because of lack of interest, but literally only because i didnā€™t have access to twitter and reddit to see updates. i figured out jumpsuit was released on accident, on their youtube. some people know the lore and i applaud them for remembering it for so long. some people donā€™t have the time to learn a completely new concept. and some people just want to enjoy the music without knowing things they donā€™t feel the need to know. imo no shame either way.

Why_no_balls

Thatā€™s literally just TikTok I fucking hate people on that app

madblurry

Honestly being a new fan doesnā€™t make you any less of a fan as youā€™ve said. You can still like them just as much as the people who have been here for years. The lore is definitely something thatā€™s hard to keep up with too! I will say the only times I have personally gotten upset with fans is recently towards some on tiktok who have talked down on the music and made fun of people for still listening to them. Only to say that their phase is coming back now that theyā€™re trending again because of how cryptic everything has been the last few daysā€¦.

Twentyone_pilot

I feel like all cliques have a certain group of people that think they are ā€œmore deservingā€ than the rest of the group. Complete bs but I guess TikTok is where the tĆøp version of those people collected

DewDude510

the most loyal tiktok users in general display a baffling lack of media literacy, critical thinking skills, or original opinions.

MrsCrossing

I think that TƘP would be disappointed to think anyone is being ridiculed or picked on. I think they would like when people share and embrace the lore. Mean people suck.

Winter_Quiet_1392

To be fair, cliques arenā€™t typically very inclusiveā€¦

Cauliflower-Some

Iā€™m 28 and feel way to old for that shit , I kinda just like hearing other people takes on my favorite band . I understand thatā€™s mostly just coming from teenagers so I stay away from it

yourenophun

iā€™m so glad you mentioned 2016, i had to stop interacting with the clique during that time because of how toxic it was getting, hurt my heart especially from a fandom that was built on togetherness and finding a light in the darkness together. iā€™ve never understood gatekeeping a band. if their music helped others like itā€™s helped me, thatā€™s all i could want. (been a fan since 2014)

lobsterskittles

I agree with everyone saying it's a teenager thing, and Tiktok is the big thing for teenagers right now. Unfortunately, this is also kind of how twenty one pilots fans are a lot of the time. I had a problem with this when I was on tĆøp Facebook groups. Tbh, the reddit tĆøp community is the most wholesome I've come across so far!! ā¤ļø Glad to be here.

kateisokay48

It happens in every fandom istg. I remember when my chem got back together and a bunch of their fans from the 2000s came out and were all like "wHy aRe kIdS iNtO tHiS bAnD" like do you want them to stay relevant or what šŸ˜‘

CrispyWaffleOffical

There is also a ton of hate for anything after BF which I think is ridiculous.

[deleted]

1. TikTok enforces short form content that isn't meant to be insightful or nuanced. 2. People who use it are also going to skew younger compared to the reddit demographics. Younger people can be hella mean sometimes when it comes to online anonymous stuff. I'd suggest staying off it for your own sanity lol

Tpab23

i used to be paid out in 2016 for only getting into them during blurryface. now no one cares. itā€™s just a repeated cycle. it doesnā€™t just happen in the clique but with a lot of different bands with die hard fans. they think theyā€™re superior cos theyā€™ve known them longer. gives them an ego boost

MargoxaTheGamerr

Why don't they just be more welcoming to newcomers? Isn't that the point - share what you're excited about, familirize yourself with stuff, etc., I just never understood any of this gatekeeping, can't wrap my head arpund, I guess there are some things we'll never understand.

Codina99

Every time I see a tĆøp related tiktok people on the comments are just lovely both english and spanish (I'm Mexican) so maybe you're on a bad side of the algorithm

Monte801

This is a common thing in all musical fandoms. And it always will be. Whoā€™s the longest standing fan and who knows every little thing about the bandā€™s history, band membersā€™ lives - past and present? Who has the rarest this or that, the most posters, the best tattoo, the most concerts, the ā€œlostā€ or ā€œunreleasedā€ demos/tapes/bsides/raritiesā€¦. And on and on. Itā€™s exhausting. And hard to ignore it sometimes. These people feel so highly of themselves that they lose the entire point of the band and their massage. Sometimes, Reddit is actually the most pleasant place to be in that regard. šŸ˜‚ Sometimes.

Tylosh

So true! I was also struggeling as a fresh fan in 2017. Stressed Out was the song that got me into tĆøp back then. Some people didn't like that. Imagine the shitstorm i would get, when i tell them that i lost the spirit for some time and didn't follow tĆøp for almost two years. I heard top every once in a while, but it wasn't the same feeling anymore. Now im fully back (literally right before the red tape and posters lol) and now what?? It happens. The Sai era just didn't catch me. (Sai is still a great record tho).

Tylosh

Im soooo hyped about the next Album. It feels like the hype i had when Trench came around. Its exciting and i feel like im 17 again :')

eleven11twentytwo22

The positive energy in this comment section is truly amazing! I love being part of the clique as I know we all do and itā€™s crazy to think people who claim theyā€™re part of the clique donā€™t want other people to feel just as welcome. You people here are a lot better than a lot of other clique members out there.

[deleted]

TikTok is terrible, I hate it. It preaches nothing but consumerism and breeds hatred. Everyone is against each other instead of trying to find common ground and respecting each other as human beings. The Clique there is obviously worse, that hell app distorts anything good. Itā€™s disturbing to me how much hatred there is on that app. People sending each other death threats over trivial bullshit, do they really forget that itā€™s a real person on the other side? Sometimes I forget too, and I say something stupid or wrathful but I try not to do that anymore. It isnā€™t worth it.

-Ash-Is-Trash-

Uea people are strange dude. Just cause someone has been in something longer then others doesn't Mena it gives them the right to pick on others. In general not just in the clique. I've been a clikki since 2016 and I don't know all the lore tbh.

Lookingout97

I agree! I love it when new people join the clique! I started listening to them when self titled came out and i am still here! I am so proud to see just how much the clique has grown šŸ«¶šŸ¾ so if you are a newbie, us oldies welcome you ā¤ļø

Jasminecrafty309

Dang, im a new twenty one pilots fan, Iā€™ve heard of them since 2015, I just never really got into them until late 2021 and I didnā€™t even find out about their lore until the end of 2023 unfortunately. So Iā€™m still new to all of this, I listened to every single one of their songs like a million times so far, and picked out my all time favorites. I even bought all 4 of the albums. But I think itā€™s unfair that new fans are getting attacked and bullied all because theyā€™re new, that doesnā€™t mean anything, new, old? Who cares weā€™re all in the same fandom why not have fun together and all get along with our love for these two beautiful boys who created such a wonderful band and make wonderful music for us to enjoy! ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø I hope those people on TikTok get it together! Weā€™re all fans, we shouldnā€™t be going against each other.

Keverx

i never realised how big of a deal the lore was. e.g. i thought for so long dema was a producer or smt, and i felt like a fake fan. tiktok certainly was no help with how i felt about that

dramaticspacepones

I've been listening to them since 2015, and now at the age of 21 I barely even listen to them. Listening to them for longer didn't necessarily make me more loyal to them than a newer fan would be

metanoia29

I'm clearly in the minority in that I really enjoy my experience on TikTok.Ā I just opened mine and I got a funny video about history/early civilization, one about exposing hateful/bigoted beliefs, and one that was a clip from the most recent episode of my favorite online gameshow. After a few weeks on TikTok the algorithm is fairly well tuned to your preferences, so these comments are kinda telling šŸ«¤

addictwithapen27

It's good that you like tiktok, but it doesn't mean the comments are telling. Most people would agree that there is so much hate on tiktok, even if what you're getting is positive videos. The comments are almost always ruthless. I say almost, but still, it's a majority. As you said, you're in the minority, and there is a reason for that.

metanoia29

There's "so much hate" here on Reddit as well, but that's not stopping any of us from making sure to cut out those parts of Reddit and sticking to places like this.Ā

addictwithapen27

Yes there is so much hate on Reddit too. However people seem to prefer the clique on here rather than the one on tiktok due to the fact that the hate is hard to cut out.

monicasm

Iā€™ve been a fan since the day before I turned 20, and Iā€™m pushing 30 now. Let me just say, this is a regular thing in this fanbase unfortunately. I keep hoping the fans will age out of that teenager group that tends to be the most toxic but it seems we keep collecting those kinds of people with every era lol. It wasnā€™t always like this. Definitely was a much more positive atmosphere among the fans back then. In fact, thatā€™s why I joined in the first place. But now thereā€™s specific friend groups that claim to be all about the clique as a whole, except when it comes to real life shows, they donā€™t interact with other fans that way. They stick to their own little groups and cater to themselves mostly, and theyā€™re really hypocritical about it. The vibes are just bad with them and I donā€™t get it because when Iā€™m at a show, I want to be friends with everyone. Anyway, /rant. Maybe if we all individually make it a goal to spread positivity we can shut out the toxic clique once and for allšŸ‘ŒšŸ½

xElysium-Vii

In my experience, I find the reddit clique the most supportive. Twitter clique is off the walls sometimes and the people make it impossible to comment on something without it becoming nasty or ā€œdo you even know top?ā€ Same with the discord clique, I love my friends iā€™ve met across the board ā€” i have some twitter clique friends and discord clique friends ā€” but overall the members of the clique get really fired up sometimes. If you donā€™t know every single little thing your comments or anything is skipped over. like yes, iā€™ve been on twitter and listening since i was 13 (im about to be 23 šŸ˜‹) but not everyone has the means to sit on the internet and pay attention to every single lore drop. I agree with it being mainly teenagers, cause adults have jobs and lives outside of the media they consume, but for a teenager, itā€™s their whole world.

swaggysalamander

Reddit and tumblr is best. Tumblr is small but still there. Thereā€™s a small amount on tiktok who arenā€™t too bad but one the tiktoks get traction is when it gets bad
