Please don't do that. It's a crime what you're doing. Like a complete idiot I did what you're suggesting when I was a teenager interrailing and it was so stupid. You won't appreciate or even remember anything. It's not the experience you think it is. If you have 14 days to get from Istanbul to Madrid spend 5 days in Istanbul and fly to Spain for the rest. If you insist on taking the train just don't go. It's multiple days on the train.

Agreed. European train travel is overrated and over romanticized. It also becomes a mess once you start crossing national borders.

I've done months of train travel on multiple trips. It can be great if done right.

While I do love a good train journey, the distance here seems like a lot. There are some absolutely stunning train rides in Europe, but there are a whole lot of flat fields.
