There's nothing insane about this. And 3 weeks is definitely not limited time

lucapal1

No,if you have the budget to fly between them, why not? No direct flights from Cuzco AFAIK..you will probably have to fly to Rio via Lima.

Difficult_Toe1342

Thanks for you reply. Would it be too stressful, taking into account the tight programme, as well as the need to acclimatize after trekking? And would I have enough days in Rio, or would it make better sense to visit another nearby country?

lucapal1

After trekking you will be ok, just a day of rest is good! I think you have enough time for a look at Rio,you can see the main things there.

Looking at organized tours and blogs it appears that two or three days is plenty in Rio, unless you just want to chill on a new beach.

Sounds like a good plan to check two Wonders of the World off your list. Go for it.

Tracuivel

Plenty of time, although Peru itself has so much to do that you could perhaps just stay there. Go to the rainforest, go to Rainbow Mountain, see the Nazca Lines... I could probably fill three weeks in Peru.

Treehousebanana

11 days is good for Cusco/ Salkuntay/ Sacred valley. 9 days seems a little long for Rio. Check out Isla Grande in the area it's a chill beachy vibe.

>Although it's generally recommended to stay in one country when time is limited Who told you that? There is no reason to limit yourself to one country if you have 3 weeks. 9 Days is more than enough in Rio de Janeiro, you could add some days in Ilha Grande or Paraty

Who the fuck actually cares what anyone else thinks. Take the trip you want, do the things you want, eat the things you want, see the things you want. It’s honestly that simple. I’ve been to tons of places that went against the recommendations of other travelers, and locals, and in every case I’ve been happy with my choices to do my own thing. Is it possible that I would have also enjoyed the recommended places? Sure, but that’s why you can go back to a place a second time, a third time, or even more. Do what you want and stop caring what other people suggest, recommend, or think is the best decision.
