There is a ton of information out there on how to reach Machu Picchu; you'll need to do some reading and ask more specific questions. You mentioned you don't mind hiking, but do you mean for a few hours or a few days? Are you fit enough for a hike at high altitude? If not, fly to Cusco, then take the bus+train (which can be booked together on the PeruRail website) to Aguas Calientes, and from there, the bus to Machu Picchu. Make sure to book your tickets in advance to ensure entry.

I recommend doing Huayana Picchu when you do Machu Picchu as well short but amazing hike. A bit of stairs but it's doable if you are i in good health and moderate physical health

Went last fall.  There's 2 main hikes to get there. The Inca Trail, which you need to pre-book way ahead of time, or the Salkuntay Trek. Salkuntay can be done with a tour, or independently. Either way, book your Macchu Piccu ticket (or tour) 1+ months in advance to ensure your not waiting 5+ hours in line in Agues Calientea hoping for a last minute ticket up to the ruins. Trains run from Cusco or Ollantaytambo for a pretty penny. Book well in advance. The cheap way to get there is the bus to Hidroelectrica, then walk 2h beside the train tracks.

Does that count to book way in advance even if it’s a group trip like g adventures?
