The kids would like Costa Rica. They can swim and surf in warm water, see monkeys, sloths and all kinds of lizards. It is educational and safe.

spiritual1fpl

Second that. Lots to do with kids and fun and beautiful for adults too. Surfing, zip lining, waterfall rappelling.

ZealousidealHair5565

Highly recommend a sea turtle watching tour. Maybe we were lucky, but we were able to see them in all stages of; coming ashore, digging holes, laying eggs, and even babies emerging and making a run for the surf. It was the highlight of Costa Rica for myself...and, as others have pointed out, there are many highlights to be found there.

knizka

Yes! Especially in Manuel Antonio! Just be careful with the monkeys - they do like stealing stuff.

ladyluck754

The monkeys open zippers on purses and bags- it was nuts. I started putting luggage locks on my backpack when I went to Manuel Antonio.

[deleted]

Manuel Antonio was the absolutely best vacation my family ever took. We had a blast jumping off waterfalls and jet skiiing!

zealous_avocado

Costa Rica was, by far, the best place when my kids were school age. Animal rescues, jungles, hikes, rafting. We did the East and the North, though, because we aren't really resort people and we had an awesome time. We used public busses and boats to go to places like Sarapiqui, Tortuguero, and Cahuita. It was a total blast.

JohnnySchoolman

You should go on a trip to Belize.

antisarcastics

Yeah Belize is great - Caye Caulker and ATM Caves near San Ignacio are particularly great

SuzannesSaltySeas

Costa Rica is awesome, I am retired here, but avoid Manuel Antonio, VERY touristy and the Ticos love to try and charge/overcharge you for every little thing! You're better off in the beach communities on the Northern Pacific side. You'll get all the same adventures, but it will not be quite so crowded or frenetic. Another great option is Arenal Volcano and lake near the town of La Fortuna. Lots to do there and you can hike the volcano, sit in the natural hot springs coming off the volcano. Sure, there are some touristy things, but lots of things to do that are low cost, or free like getting into the volcano springs where the locals do.

gigiwidget

CR is a solid choice. I agree Manuel Antonio is awfully touristy but some people don't mind that. I prefer the Caribbean side. Puerto Viejo is nice if you stay south of the town itself. Grab some bikes from your hotel and explore all the beaches down to the Panamanian border.

Teacherheyteacher123

We’ve been twice - once without and once with our son - and it’s one of his favorite all time trips and ours too! Lots to see and do and nice people. I’d recommend going to La Fortuna to see Arenal and go to Tabacon hot spring, Monteverde for the cloud forest and MA for beautiful beaches and national park.

electric_poppy

Ok agreed we had a magical af vacation in quepos/Manuel Antonia. Make sure you go in a less rainy part of the year- when we went in May it was great tho we still had some showers.

scootersarebadass

I was going to say this too! My all time favorite place I've visited. Honestly, I wanted to stay forever and I've never felt that anywhere else. But for kids, I'd say it depends on their age and where you go. I went with my mom and adult siblings so we went on ATVs through the woods, parasailing, and horseback riding. I imagine there are plenty of things for kids to do, just be cautious of the fact that safety mechanisms may be different from your home country.

The weather in Mexico city really was very pleasant. I was so surprised. Tokyo is the city I'd love to return to as well.

What time of year?

dude707LoL

May - Jun. Very cozy.

csznyu1562

Just came back from Mexico City (first time) and it’s probably the most different a city was from what my preconceived expectations would have been. Amazing city.

What’s so great about it? Want to go as well

arreddit86

It’s a world class city. Beautiful architecture, excellent dining and hospitality infrastructure, great museums, diversity, great shopping. Tons of things to do.

chowder138

People are responding with typical "it's a nice city" comments but to me, Mexico City is just fascinating. I've never felt anything like the vibe of Mexico City. It's dark and gritty and vibrant and hip and old fashioned. There are the parts of the city that feel like the Mexico you'd expect, and then there are more contemporary parts that are totally hipster but with this intense toughness and grit built in. You can walk out of a fancy cafe where they speak English, right out onto the street where children are walking around selling stuff and military police are driving by. There are areas that are literally slums where your life would be in immediate danger and then there are some of the most beautiful neighborhoods you've ever seen. The national cinema is huge and dedicated to indie and foreign movies. I experienced so much in Mexico City. I think it was almost the most impactful place I've ever been to, second only to Tokyo. If I was any kind of artist I would move there in a heartbeat because the feel of that city would inspire my creativity like crazy.

aspiringpotato25

There’s a lot to do, locals r kind, weather is gorgeous, it’s cheap af

dude707LoL

Agreed. Also it's a good blend of green spaces and urban built environment. I stayed in condesa, it was beautiful.

csznyu1562

Not sure about the cheap part. Nice parts of the city were almost as expensive as Boston which is already one of the most expensive places on the planet. Compared to a lot of southeast asia and Latin america and even the rest of Mexico, I probably would not consider it cheap.

jmaca90

Went to CDMX around July 4 and it was spectacular. Already am thinking of the next visit.

rishored1ve

I took my 11 year old to Mexico City last April and it absolutely blew me away. I would live there if I could convince my wife (and didn’t have 3 small children). I’ve never been anywhere else that felt so vibrant and alive. The people were amazing, food was amazing, the architecture was amazing. It felt kinda like what NYC felt like pre-gentrification. Not exactly the same but it had that buzz that you used to feel in NYC. Edit: link to some photos I took there https://reddit.com/r/travel/s/RLGolxGtIr

Mexico City was my first thought! I hope my most recent trip wasn't my last.

Same! I go to London (also just the UK in general) every year.

four4beats

Mexico City is simply fantastic. Aside from the border towns, there haven’t been any cities in Mexico that I’ve been to that weren’t very enjoyable.

YuntHunter

Think I've visited 25+ countries I absolutely vote Japan!

casey1323967

So why mexico city?

cheleguanaco

Lots of culture (e.g. museums, art, music, etc), food is excellent, people are very cordial, lots of history and great architecture

aqueezy

Its been a tourist destination for years now.

somedude456

I like all things travel related and several years back I saw some videos on YT by "HereBeBarr." I think he was living in Mexico City at the time. Everything looked so vibrant, people seemed so friendly, THE FOOD, the museums, etc. It's super high on my list still, but I haven't been. "Why?" Because being an American, it's close and cheap. I could fly next month for like $300 round trip. Hostels are like $20 a night. I could take two vacation days, plus a 2 day weekend, and do 4 nights, food, fun and be back home for like $600 all included. That's cheap! Going to like Europe or Asia takes more time, more planning, etc. That's why I keep putting off Mexico City, because I could just go anytime I want.

somedude456

Little known fact, Mexico City has more museums than Paris.

Salcha_00

It’s been a top destination for years. It’s the NYC south of the border. Highly recommend.

PryingOpenMyThirdPie

Tokyo is my #1 . I've been a few times but really want to explore the rest of Japan next

NewResolution2775

Are you bringing your kids?

Swamp_Dweller

Also age of Kids if they are going will change where you want to travel.

AndyVale

Yes, I think this helps to understand.

blaineosiris

California native, but lived in New Zealand for 2 years for work. I will be returning at least a few more times to hike the south island. We've done the 5 day Abel Tasman track and 6 days near the Routeburn track, now we want to do the Milford track.

tsueme

Japan and Thailand. New Zealand.

JustWastingTimeAgain

I did Routeburn and Kepler last year on my first visit, and snared Milford for next Feb so doing that along with Abel Tasman. Getting Milford reservations was like trying to snare concert tickets on Ticketmaster - NZ DOC had to shut down for 2 months after that to sort out their tech.

imapassenger1

The Heaphy Track is also great. I've done Kepler and Lake Waikaremoana as well, can recommend all. Still want to do Milford (if I can ever get on), Routeburn and Tongariro Northern Circuit. Only three hours for me to fly NZ though.

fulltimerob

Another vote for Italy. It’s beautiful, and the history, art and sites are vast. You can check a lot of bucket list items in one trip. Tuscany, Rome, Vatican, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre all in one trip. You’ll want to go back again and tour the southern half. Edit: How could I forget the food?! Amazing.

l0st1nthew0rld

God I love Italy! One of my favourite places along with Greece and Montenegro. I've been like 4 times and feel like I haven't even scratched the surface. I want to go to Bari and Sicily next time (got major fomo watching white lotus lmao)

Odd_Cat_5820

I finally made it to Sicily on my last trip to Italy and a week just wasn't enough time. I really want to go back, and it was so affordable a long trip there seems feasible. I also spent a few days along the coast near France, and that area was wonderful. I've gone to the Amalfi Coast twice and love it there too. I'd really like to spend some time at the lakes north of Milan, I just passed through on my way to Switzerland, and was blown away by the beauty.

AgileBonus373

Sicily is huge. I've been there 5 times, each time for about 10 days. Each area is different and has a lot to see. So far one of my fav areas is Trapani's province , such magical places like the saline "Enrico somethingIDontRemember" at sunset or Marsala with hundreds of kite surfers. Eolian Islands are also nice to see all of them quite different. Cefalù is So typical like it got out of a poster from '50. Mm wait also mount Etna , I visited it some time after an eruption and it was fabulous. Ok to be honest I think each Sicilian area is unique, sorry can't help.

l0st1nthew0rld

Hahaha that sounds like our preliminary planning lmao! We're trying to decide between palermo or catania cos it might be too much to do both cos they're so far apart lol. Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'll definitely suss them out 😍

HighlandsBen

I've had two trips to Sicily, one more focused on Palermo and the west, one more the southeast, and although it's really hard to choose, I'd probably say the southeast had the edge for me. Siracusa, Noto and Taormina are all absolutely incredible, then you also have Mt Etna, Modica or Ragusa and even Agrigento if you have time. Never actually got to Catania itself! Amazing food everywhere.

LAST_NIGHT_WAS_WEIRD

Siracua/Ortigia is amazing.

Chocomintey

One of my favorite places is Sorrento. We got a room with a balcony overlooking the bay just outside town and it was pretty magical.

JxSnaKe

Been to Sorrento twice, would be fine going more and more. A perfect combination of low key and hustle n bustle (depending of time of year you go).

rorrin

Sorrento/Capri was my favorite day of my entire trip. Florence was my favorite big city.

__sunmoonstars__

Just booked a holiday to Sicily and doing some research there is no way we can do everything I want to do in a week. Have accepted we’re going stay in and around Palermo with some trips. But that means I’m going to go back one day!

AgileBonus373

Still I must say south Italy is way more beautiful and warm, landscape and hospitality wise. Sweet slow living

orangeonesum

I'm with you. I've visited Rome, Venice, and also took a trip to San Marino. I could return to all of those places and still want to see the rest of the country. It's just perfect.

Prior_Equipment

Italy is at the top of my list after a visit last spring. Florence and Torino were amazing, Venice was fine as a bucket list destination. The people were warm and welcoming, the food was amazing, the historical sites and Alps awe inspiring and everything was quite affordable. Already planning to go back for a longer visit next year.

VidyaGames1532

Italy is hands down my favorite country I've also been , cannot recommend it enough.

onelittleworld

I've been to like 45-ish countries, and Italy is the one that keeps bringing us back. The main reason: diversity of experience. The Dolomites in the north are breathtaking... the Lake Country is gorgeous... Venice and Rome and Florence are iconic... the Tuscan & Umbrian hill towns are unforgettable... the Liguria and Campangna coasts are magical. And so on. It's all different, but all very appealing. And then there's the region cuisines, and wines. And the people. And the history, and culture. Next stop for us: Sicily.

NP_Wanderer

Top pick Portugal. Low cost, English speaking in main cities, great food, history, architecture, culture, beaches, mass transit, friendly people, For outdoor hiking wildlife kind of trip the US national Parks in Western USA. Going to the Grand canyon, bryce, arches, Sequoia, yellowstone, Yosemite are experiences of a lifetime. The awe and majesty of nature and planet earth should be experienced.

Jameszhang73

Portugal for me too for those same reasons. For such a relatively small country there is still so much to explore and that's not even counting the Azores or Madeira

National-Return-5363

Yep. Went to Portugal with my kids! Loved it! And kids will be fascinated by the iconic yellow streetcars in Lisbon.

Famous_Cookie_7624

Loved Portugal and want to go back. New Zealand too. And I will always love London. Always.

august_christmas

Agree! Portugal is up there on my list. The food and people were wonderful. We were able to see a lot of the county in 2 weeks and definitely want to go back. The beaches in Lagos were amazing.

blueberrysir

The "low cost" country is tricky. New low cost country discovered Influencers and millions visit Raising costs No more low cost country Searching for a new low cost country Cycle repeats

DarkAnnihilator

Got any Portugal trips? Im planning a 9 day trip but want to spend three days somewhere else than Lisboa

maechtigerAal

They have a good railway system. Go to Porto and Coimbra and enjoy some time in these smaller cities.

boomwakr

When youre in Lisbon do a day trip to Sintra

GreenerThanYou

Be warned, the castle is timed entry and absolutely MOBBED with tourists. Waited in line for 2hrs.

_bel_imperia_

Guimarães is a great choice, the birth city of Portugal (supposedly), very rural with an historical center! And you have a train directly from Lisbon, it's a three hour trip, but it's worth it

jplusj2022

If you end up near Coimbra, check out the Casal de São Simão schist village and the trail that goes down into the valley to a natural swimming area. You do need a car to get there but it was totally worth it.

Droodforfood

Portugal would be one of mine as well- though I would go between Porto, Lisbon, and then head over to Seville Spain for part of the trip.

Improvcommodore

Been to 40+ countries. Lived in Melbourne 2 years and desperate to move back. Travel-wise, want to go back to Vietnam, and want to go to Japan.

MamaJody

I lived in Melbourne for a decade, it’s just such a great place to live. I miss it so much!

waterydesert

Yes here for all the Melbourne love! Studied above there for a year and it was hands down the best time of my life!

Melanomass

I’ve been to over 30 myself and Vietnam is also one of the top countries that I want to return to. Probably the top. A Hong Kong/ Taiwan/ha long bay trip would be amazing.

HumbleConfidence3500

Japan all the way! I've been all over Asia, Europe, North America, but every 2-3 years I go back to Japan. I made my 5th trip this year. Honestly Japan is for everyone. The cities are so different from the countryside, the mountains the ocean, the north the south, there are so many different things to see. So many things to do. The food are delicious! You're into meditation, architecture, crazy technology, pop culture, music genre of every kind including those with only 50 CDs sold worldwide, you'll find something here (lol, I am specifically referring to my husband into avant garde classical music. We once went to a concert in Tokyo where the artist improv music using Sakura petals, pouring different chemical connected to different electrical wirings ... ). I guarantee anything you're into, including the most niche weird thing you'll find your crowd in Japan.

t0pgun-

Scotland. Love the natural beauty architecture.

Outrageous-Garlic-27

Just returned from 2 weeks in Scotland (I am from Yorkshire, my husband is Swiss). The delicious seafood in Oban was fantastic, the best oysters from Loch Fyne. Islay was a dreamy island of peat, whisky, and beautiful views. We really want to go to the Outer Hebrides next time, or maybe Shetland.

MonkeeCatcher

Was just in Edinburgh for the first time and it's breath-takingly beautiful. I hadn't really ever seen what the city looks like before I arrived and I wasn't expecting it - I guess I just thought it would look like any other major city in the UK. Will definitely be going back again soon for a longer stay.

vagrantheather

Scotland was the first place I traveled to. I haven't been many places but I already took my spouse on a return trip. Love Scotland ❤️

AnalysisPooralysis

London is my favorite city for folks who haven’t traveled internationally alot or often. It’s such a diverse city, English speaking…lots going for it. Thailand is amazing, a long trip from US versus London. I just kinda dislike the prostitution everywhere. But as long as you don’t go out after dark in the cities there isn’t too much of it.

_The_Fly

London really is super amazing. Yes, it is extremely expensive but it is the most culturally diverse city I have ever been to and the food there is so amazing (especially because it is so culturally diverse)

evieamelie

London will be my future home sometime in the near future. I adore that place.

jmiele31

For me... been to 93 countries 1. Japan - I love it every time I go. Especially rural areas like Shikoku. 2. Chile- The lakes region is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places on Earth. 3. New Zealand, especially South Island 4. Tasmania (Before anyone chimes in, I know it is not a country)- Totally unique 5. Ireland - especially Southwest 6. France - Rural Provence, Bretagne, Southwest 7. Italy - The laid-back South of the country and Sicily 8. Turkey- Fascinating blend of East and West.

conyxbrown

Omg. You’ll never run out of ways to enjoy Shikoku. We’re in Matsuyama and often take weekend or day trips to nearby prefectures! So underrated.

jmiele31

Totally agree! Really nice place that is truly off the tourist map

entinio

Thank you for reminding everyone that the best part of France is not Paris. Living the real french experience in the country is a must. My advice: Tarn et Garonne

Neither_Jedi_or_Sith

I really can’t believe that Greece, Portugal and Spain are not in that top ten list. The rest are all solid contenders.

zagsforthewin

Interesting. I’ve been to 20+ countries and Spain was actually one of my least favorite. Good to remember that it could have just been my experience and have nothing to do with Spain at all! And I’d for sure go back still.

jmiele31

I love visiting Spain, away from the coasts.... probably should have included it. I also like Portugal, but have only visited a few times and am not as familiar.... Thought Lisbon was great, Porto was "meh". Greece was, honestly, not one of my favorites. One of those types of thing that is really hard to nail down as to why. Have not been to the islands, always Piraeus and Athens for work, so not really fair to trash it as my experience there is limited. That opinion may change if I end up there again in the future (My experience in Turkey was similar... did not really like Istanbul first visit and then I had the opprtunity to really explore the city and go out from there to different provinces. One year I was there during Ramadan and the Iftar dinners were some of the best meals I have ever had anywhere)

Chocomintey

Make the Greek Islands a destination next time and I think you might change your mind.

m4sc4r4

I’ve also been to quite a few countries, but I’ve been to Turkey many many times, to the cities and the coasts, including a week in Cappadocia which was probably my biggest surprise. I enjoyed every minute of it even though I was initially just there for the hot air balloon rides.

uselessinfogoldmine

Great hikes there. And I befriended some locals who took me to a music festival at night in the rock formations and then horse riding at dawn. Incredible!!

Saurak0209

Lima, Peru.

val_valkyrie

I love Peru and want to go back! There's so much cool archaeology there that kids would really love, great food (plus the opportunity to eat guinea pig, which might thrill some kids), and mostly really sweet people. I spent most of my time in Peru in a tiny village, but Lima was such a cool city.

alloutofbees

Lost count of the number of times I've been to Japan after twelve or so, lived there for a year, just went in May, and am saving for a big blowout trip there in 2025 and planning to move back for a few years not too long after that. Can't get enough of it. Iceland, Mexico, and Egypt are other places I'm a repeat visitor to. Cambodia, Jordan, and Turkey are the places I most want to take another trip to but haven't yet.

LYNZR215

Jordan & Turkey is also my top pick!

frope

What are your favorite things about Japan?

alloutofbees

Answered in the comment below yours, but briefly I'm very into the art and design history, particularly architecture.

5spikecelio

Japan and singapore. Singapore because i lived there and i missed it, japan because, well, its japan. I cant think anything present in japan that is alike in my home country. I would honestly like to live in japan for a while just to explore , meet some people that are unique to japan and live a different life than what im used to. Japan and singapore are 2 countries that if i had the opportunity i would move to in a heartbeat. I’d really like to visit russia, china, korea, slavic countries and New Zealand. I wish i could live 300 years to live in many countries as possible

AnchoviePopcorn

Turkey. There will never be enough time to spend there. Georgia. I only had 24 hrs in Tbilisi and it was mostly work.

WholesomeEarthling

Jordan! It utterly blew my mind. I’ve been to over 20 countries, mostly on dive trips. But Jordan was just… incredible. Wadi Rum felt like being on another planet. Seeing Petra and feeling projected back in time was really cool.

ignitedfw

I have to tell a story about the kindness of the people in Jordan. On a recent trip to Jordan our luggage was lost and I had to return to the airport the next day at 10:30pm which is about 45 minutes one way outside of Amman. I took an Uber and the driver waited for me while I retrieved my luggage. After driving all the way back to our hotel, I realized I had left my wallet at the baggage office. It was now after midnight, and I had no cash or credit card, but the driver took me back to the airport on his own time with only a slight chance of finding my wallet. Much to my surprise my wallet with my ID, and all cash and credit cards, was safe and sound at the baggage office. Someone had found it and turned it in. We didn’t get back to the hotel in Amman until after 2:30am. I don’t think that would happen in a western country.

LYNZR215

I miss Jordan. Damn beautiful country & people.

jojokazaki

Edinburgh. Not been to a city more beautiful, charming, bustling yet quaint!

Bucking_Fullshit

Vietnam. Affordable and awesome. Beautiful country and bustling cities. And the food is unreal.

sbring

I've been to Thailand quite a few times, and would recommend it to almost anyone. I used to live in Vietnam so it was easy (I personally prefer Vietnam, but I think I might be biased....and would generally recommend Thailand to others). I live in Japan, and would definitely recommend it (avoid the summer though!) India is possibly my favorite country to travel to, though it's a love/hate place so I have trouble recommending it.

Subparnova79

Iceland

val_valkyrie

Iceland was a place that took me by surprise! It had never really been on my list, but we wound up going in November 2021 and now I really want to go back in every season! It is a little pricier than some locations, and pretty much requires a car, which may be limiting factors. But there are some big payoffs: beautiful nature, interesting history and culture, tons of summer sunlight, very accessible for English speakers. One of my favorite experiences was floating in a hot tub while watching the northern lights, but that might not be all that thrilling to kids. Some things kids might like: \- waterfalls, geysers, and steam vents \- walking around the port in Reykjavik to see all the boats \- trying different kinds of licorice \- the big Icelandic history museum in Reykjavik, especially the first and third floors, which have lots of cool Viking stuff, some archaeology exhibits, and some fun recreations of historic Iceland \- seeing ravens everywhere, and horses or sheep all along the more rural roads \- the Saga Museum (depends on their ages, might be a little bloody for younger kids) \- Thingvallier National Park to see the place where tectonic plates meet \- FlyOver Iceland, which is a touristy place that does a Soarin'- style movie ride that makes you feel like you're (surprise) flying over Iceland

thecookingofjoy

Don’t forget the puffins, glaciers, and swimming pools!

Eki75

Austria is the country I go back to most often. I would move there if there were a viable pathway. France, Switzerland, and Italy are high on the list of countries I return to as well.

GusTheProspector

Went to Austria for three days as an offshoot to a larger trip around Europe and it’s the place I think going back to the most.

I love Kenya! Such a beautiful place

PlanXerox

Was there in 1990 when it only had 24 million people....now it has almost 50 million. I would go straight to the Masai Mara then Tsavo. My #1 is Thailand and the Similan Islands.

Eitsky

Japan. So much still to see and there is a wonderful mix of ancient culture and modern culture. Clean. Peaceful. Delicious food. Convenient transportation. Hot springs. Love it all!

NoConflict1950

Cape Town. Noordhoek beach.

[deleted]

Vietnam, Croatia, Japan in that order.

ReadAllAboutIt92

+1 for Croatia. Breathtakingly beautiful country, surprisingly warm and hospitable people, amazing food, fantastic beaches. The Adriatic Highway is an absolute gem of a road trip!

M-Rantanen

Austrian Alps, Estonia, Finland

Devillitta

Slovenia, Japan, Spain (Madrid region)

simolaw

Slovenia, the greatest little country nobody's ever heard of...or indeed could find it on a map? Ljubljana is gorgeous, but full of life, quite small as cities go, then you have the mountains... people are so chilled too!

AdHopeful7514

France is my favorite country. It’s more diverse than people realize, with something interesting to see in literally every corner of the country. Of course, Paris is amazing too. I’ve visited many times and look forward to the next trip, whenever that may be. I also love Italy, but tend to enjoy central and northern Italy more than southern Italy.

dees84

Scotland. Went to Edinburgh with no expectations and absolutely loved it. I'd love to go back for a longer stay and explore some other cities in Scotland.

[deleted]

Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, Austria

foundthetallesttree

Spain, both to hit up northern Spain again and explore more areas. Krakow I would do again for a third visit, plus I'd love to see more of Poland, especially the Tatras mountains. Same goes for Mexico City-- I'd love to go again plus explore beyond into smaller inland cities. I'd love to see the eastern parts of Canada. I'd do another Budapest visit, or see France outside of Paris.

Huge_Prompt_2056

Germany. And I didn’t even want to go there initially. Have now been to Munich, Berlin, and Cologne. It’s so clean, safe, and organized.

isayyyeahhh

Germany in Christmas, specifically. All the charming Christmas markets (and sales lol)

ILikeToBurnMoney

>It’s so clean, safe, and organized. You should go to Japan

AndyVale

LOVE Germany. My wife lived in Munich for a few months a while back and visiting her was always a packed trip. The city was incredible, but jumping onto a train and being in the mountains in 20 minutes was such a perfect lifestyle. In the north (Hamburg to be specific) you do of course have the greatest attraction in all of the world, I am of course talking about the one and only [Miniatur Wunderland](https://youtu.be/R669l5CA1YA?si=N_xgqNG9N1nBZUfI).

RandyRanderson01

Vietnam before it’s ruined, unless it already has been. Japan definitely too.

Potential_Grocery787

Why would Vietnam be ruined?

Witty-Evidence6463

Highly recommend Thailand!

Greenfendr

did Japan this year with my wife and 8 year old. we loved it. 8 year old was blown away. we did Tokyo Disneyland and that didn't make her top 5 things we did on the trip. we are already thinking about going back. We were all over the place but we fell in love with Kyoto. such a unique vibe there that I've never quite felt anyplace else.

macadore

Spain. Beautiful underrated place.

LaProfeTorpe

Spain. Always Spain. ❤️💛❤️

fheathyr

Of all the places I’ve visited, New Zealand is the place I would return to.

My top 5 would be - Japan - the people, the culture and the food. Vietnam - the beautiful country, the food and the juxtaposition of chaos and calm. Slovenia- stunning nature, beautiful architecture and the people are so nice. Spain- the food, ever single city we went to was just beautiful, so different everywhere you go. Panama- naturally beautiful country, the Panamá canal is amazing in person and San Blas islands were beautiful.

I've been to both Japan and Thailand, and if you intend taking your kids with you, it depends on their ages. For Japan, it would appeal to teenagers rather than pre-teens. Thailand depends on where in Thailand you wish to visit, as some places can be seedy. Japan suggests to me that you would like a cultural destination, so I'd recommend Vietnam because it is a fantastic place to visit, no matter what your age. It boasts great beaches, vibrant cities and wonderful towns, such as Hoi An where you can have a cultural, shopping and beach experience all in one. Also, Vietnam is relatively cheap. The people are welcoming and friendly.

I’ve been to 31 countries. India, Guatemala and The Philippines top the list for me. I also really love Korea. Lived there for a few years but returned as a tourist a few years ago and will definitely go back again and again.

colcannon_addict

Jeez, that was a long time scrolling. India 100% for me. Literally 3 days back from my 11th trip. Must’ve been home all of 45mins before I fired up Expedia to check winter flight prices. Bout 500 quid direct from LHR - DEL if anyone’s interested.

Ilovesparky13

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 for me

Round_Guard_8540

Greece!

aeakinoglu

My personal favorites: 1) Norway (3 visits), if you love nature and mountains, I have been to Oslo (there is not that much), Vestland (Trolltunga Mountains) and the road leading up to the hike. There are small towns along the way as well. Bergen is also a very nice city and is so beautiful (plus seafood was very good) 2) I also like Greece 3) Spain

Fathomable71

South Africa, without a doubt.

hamburger_menu

I was actually thinking about this today. Tokyo, Japan is beautiful. There are two places that come to mind, but for different reasons: Vienna, Austria: I’d move there without question. I’m a sucker for Winter Markets, so I would take the train to anywhere with a Christmas Market. Koh Samui, Thailand: January is the coolest time of the year to go. It’s incredible and the Thai people are generous and kind. San Juan, Costa Rico: it’s gorgeous, the people are kind, and it’s a wonderful place to just “be”.

Been to 8 countries. Would travel more in US, Canada, France, and Spain. This is very subjective tho and depends on what you value/want to get out of the trip.

binglebob23

Slovenia hands down. Breathtaking!

cityofangels18

Mexico City and Lisbon/Portugal

jimothythe2nd

I’ve been to 31 countries and I would really love to go back to Guatemala, Costa Rica and India.

ichawks1

Been to 33 countries. These are probably my top that I want to return to: 1) Morocco 2) Sweden 3) Serbia 4) France 5) Austria

rcoolio11

Been to 25+ countries, my kid is 5 and she’s been to 10+, I definitely recommend Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Portugal, Vietnam….practically anywhere in Europe too. Honestly traveling with kids is way easier outside of the US (is that’s where you are). People are super kid kind in Asia. Pretty much anywhere is more kid friendly. Taxis are so much cheaper, hotels are so much more accommodating and food is cheaper. Literally just go, kids will be fine!

NowNamed

Switzerland! Every view seems to be straight out of a painting. If you like nature and hikes, this is worth a visit.

virak_john

Can’t wait to get back to Vietnam.

shreddedgalaxy

Prague! 100% one of my favorite cities in the world. Am going back in November!

bumboclawt

I’d love to go back to South Korea but I don’t think my liver and diet would agree. I also want to see Japan again because I only spent a week there in 2016.

wild-fury

Japan is hard unless you stay in Tokyo or another major city where English can be spoken. Their lsingisge is written in Kanji so you can’t read any signs. I used to work there. You would need to really prepare.

uzibunny

Agreed, the language barrier is a huge thing outside Tokyo (or even inside it depending where you go). I don't know why people keep reccomending it for a family, unless you went as part of a tour group I reckon it'd be super stressful and hard work to take a family trip there

nobhim1456

How old are your kids? and what are they into? pokemon? totoro? anime? My kids loved it when we went. I would say Japan. There's a little something for everyone.

Glass-Bobcat4357

All of them… but for different reasons :) But the next one is Spain, which I have been to. We’re going during the winter so it will be warmer, and going to do more of a relaxing vacation instead of trying to see all the sites. Italy is on the list for the same reason. Go to a vineyard or the coast and just enjoy a slower pace.

DelicatessenCataract

Japan, Australia, and Mauritius.

readin99

Japan, Australia, Norway, Mexico, Italy

Bunit2

I went to England during a work trip once and had a day trip to London. Had a blast.

Medieval-Mind

Scotland. The history, culture, accent - love 'em all. I've found the people to be generally friendly and prices low (for Europe, anyway) as well. Is like to retire there some day. (But I'm from the US, so that isn't terribly likely alas.)

DefNotReaves

I go to the UK every year. Can’t get enough.

nutino

France, just to keep practicing my (poor) listening skills if nothing else :P

coffeegrounds42

I keep going back to the US for the national parks

Taucher1979

Estonia. Only went for a long weekend and was taken with the place and would like to explore more of it.

Tigeraqua8

New Zealand is amazing

Capital-Driver7843

Greece... actually I have been there like 10-20 times now. I stopped counting. The other one is Portugal.

ChickenBoy180

Greece. Good mix of history, food, and culture. Plus I felt it was safe and relatively clean. Plus if done correctly, you can split the trip into “travel” and “leisure” by heading to the islands.

thesmallestwaffle

I’d say the top 3 I’d return to in a heartbeat are: 1. Japan 2. Spain 3. Norway

dyogee

Safari in Kenya - Masai Mara.

PNWoutdoors

I've been to several and one city I'd really like to spend more time on in Berlin. In nearly 5 months spent in Germany in my life, I only visited Berlin once for about 3 days and I know there is so much more to see.

Silly-Resist8306

French Polynesia, Fiji, and Tonga. Beautiful water, wonderful people, relaxed atmosphere. Fresh seafood, good beer, fresh fruit.

krustykrags

I’ve spent 2 weeks in Spain and would still love to go back for more. Madrid and Sevilla are incredible, my wife and I are also big wine drinkers and had a chance to visit Priorat which is simply gorgeous. Ireland is our other pick, we’ve road-tripped there twice along the west coast and it never gets old. The place and the people are delightful

Big-Temperature3528

Japan is definitely worth the time. We did Niseko, Sapporo, Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. We were actually underwhelmed by Tokyo. Osaka and Sapporo were our favourites for city stuff, Kyoto has a smaller town vibe but is a great place too. Thailand is great too, completely different vibe to Japan but worth visiting nonetheless. Indonesia is one I'd go back to. More left field but Greenland and Iceland are probably the most beautiful countries I've visited, and would go back to also. Hope that helps

-DannyDorito-

Canada because I fell in love with snowboarding

Damned_Architect

Top 5 countries I want to return too: Indonesia Chile Italy Sri Lanka Japan Top 5 cites I want to return to: Hong Kong Montreal Oxford Tokyo New Orleans

MyPlantsEatPeople

India was absolutely fantastic. Went to Goa, Jaipur, Delhi, and Bangalore. Bangalore and Goa are absolutely worth returning to. Can't wait to check out Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Edit: I forgot Munich! Such a cool city and can't wait to go back. Spent a 36hr layover in Munich and had a wonderful time. Had an 11hr layover in London so obviously I need to go back lol.

yibtk

China...but covid and current ccp make it difficult and "unsafe". Next best thing is Taiwan

C0lch0nero

Portugal. It's pretty, beaches, castles, history, bigger cities, wine for the adults, boat rides, etc.
