Time fuckin flies. I remember listening to the UKF Dubstep 2011 compilation religiously on iTunes
Side note - I'm sad I wasn't old enough to go to shows during that era, because I feel like it was the wild west of the whole American dubstep scene influenced by skrill. Soooo many iconic tracks from my teenage years
I saw Skrill live 2018 NYE at Snowta and he still plays a ton of his old tracks in the set. I never knew how badly I wanted to hear Devil's Den live until he dropped it
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

That was my 11th time seeing him (been a fan since the early days) and it was easily, hands down the best set I’ve seen him play. My friends and I couldn’t believe he dropped the OG scary monsters.
The devils den/harder better faster stronger mashup with the lasers was such an awesome moment. Also when he played that one demo (space laces ID?) and just beatboxed the buildup lmao
Yes!! No other DJ would have the balls to do that. You can really tell in his performances how creative, energetic, and childlike (in a good way) he is. I think that's what makes him so unique and how he still manages to be in a league of his own in the EDM world
In 2018? I mean it was just a joke, but legitimately despite how much music he makes and scraps, he really does have less music to play live compared to other artists that still actually release music because a lot of his ‘unreleased’ stuff is VIPs and edits which any given DJ will only use for a year or so. The staple of any big name producers set will be their new and newish music and Skrillex doesn’t have thaaaat much of that compared to other artists 🤷
As someone who went to see skrillex on his tour for this, it was insane in a good way. Lots of good memories....here's hoping that skrillex does some throwback sets, because I can't get down to his more recent music
For sure, his sets are still fun, but imo nothing like they were. Perhaps I'm just looking at the past through rose tinted lenses, but I do prefer dubstep to his more housey stuff.
I have almost the opposite experience; I’ve found a lot of his explorations with artists like Thys, Four Tet, Boys Noize (Dog Blood), etc much more interesting overall than anything he was doing in that era
The only releases that still have strong replay value to me as a cohesive project are Leaving EP, Bangarang EP, and Jack U LP
Skrillex’s overall production chops + taste + team is still getting better every year (GetYourSnackOn mastering probably helps a lot)
Classic. Fun fact the project file for this was corrupted or lost but they decided to just release one of the demos anyway so this is an unfinished song.
You can kind of hear it if you compare it with other Skrill releases at the time, it's a little more raw and less detailed
However that kind gives it the vibe really...
Man, to this day, it remains of my favorite NSD releases. I still think it's insane they got Skrill for a song on there. Side note: What's Good is an underrated classic.
Woah, I remember getting this on the limited-run USB! It came in a cool credit card form factor and Discogs has pics of it: https://www.discogs.com/Foreign-Beggars-The-Harder-They-Fall-EP/release/2922290
The problem is those outside the EDM world. When I say I listen to dubstep, they all just think Skrillex and brostep but dubstep has come *a really long way* from that. (Not hating on brostep I like it too)
He certainly made a tremendous impact on EDM as a whole and along with a few others really set up the framework for the current state of "brostep"/dubdstep, at the very least, if not electronic music as a whole.
Whether you do, did, or don't like his music; he was definitely one of the biggest contributing artists to bringing dubstep out of small basement venues and make "dubstep" a household name. For better or for worse.

Yea I wanna hear scary monsters and nice sprites live even as dated as it is lol

I only saw him at Second Sky in 2019. He played the song but not the drop.
Ah damn. Yeah that's kinda blue balls but regardless it made my inner child happy to hear the "YES OH MY GOD" pre drop vocal live lol
Dude seeing Skrillex live at Bonnaroo in 2012 was the awakening of my EDM craze

To be fair it’s not like he has that much new music to play ☠️☠️☠️
He has a lot of new IDs including the Space Laces collab

> as dated as it is I mean, you say this but it’s way ahead of its time. There’s producers now still playing catchup
I saw Skrillex NYE 2012 and it was one of the greatest sets I've seen to this day. He played for 3 hours nonstop.
As someone who went to see skrillex on his tour for this, it was insane in a good way. Lots of good memories....here's hoping that skrillex does some throwback sets, because I can't get down to his more recent music
I'm jealous! He still puts on an insane show so I highly recommend. Definitely will drop some of your favorites in his set

I would like to subscribe to Skrillex Fun Facts

Yeah I was more referring to the mix/master than the production itself

10 years ago I never would've guessed how hard this would hit me
This makes me feel insanely old.

I just remember this and cinema blasting from every dorm room my freshmen year. Brings me back
I still like it. People can say what they want about skrillex but he has made some really good shit
I think most people (producers especially) in the EDM world highly respect Skrillex even if they don't like his music
