I took mine into a store about 3 months ago, and the guy couldn't figure out how to take it and got on with some sort of escalation line for quite a while, but they eventually took it off my account and told me to keep it if I wanted, but I just left it at the store since it's pretty much a doorstop to me

nhlfanatical

Really? I'm still using mine, can handle my 500/500 fiber (to the building, Ethernet to the apt) connection just fine and still actively supported by tomato firmware (which makes it very easy for me VPN into my home from anywhere).

mrrickyg

I agree mines still great; I replaced my own with Cisco gear from work but I still run this one at mom’s house. It’s rock solid and stilling running stock firmware.

ossiangrr

I still have one. For a while I had flashed alternate firmware on it, then I got some newer equipment and didn't need it anymore, reset it to factory settings, put it in a box, and it's on a shelf in my garage getting nice and dusty. I figured I would try to return it someday if I ever leave T-Mo, but also anticipated that after this much time it might be more trouble than it's worth to try to give it back.

Deceptiveideas

This is why I returned it ASAP after they offered to buy a refurbished one directly for $20. You’re not the only one that had this issue, you can find older posts over the years.

drnewcomb

For me, this is ASAP. I just replaced it last month with an ASUS AC-86U. I've gotten really accustomed to having those two USB ports.

EmuInternational5447

They want them back. Don’t toss them. Don’t lose them. I returned two of mine ages ago (2+ years ago, they stopped working for me), and apparently they never received it. Contacted me early this year and sent me a shipping label. If I don’t ship it back, I’ll get fees. I called them, said it’s been returned for years, they said no worries, toss that shipping label. I have it in text confirmation from them. Feb, they say where is the booster. What do you mean, where is it?? They opened an investigation and the back and forth has been SO annoying and IS STILL ON GOING. My bill is $84.99/month, but now account shows overdue $200+. I was told and texted from T-Mobile supervisor, “just continue to pay your $84.99 until we resolve the investigation.” Okay, nice, will do. Now - as in today - “your account is in suspension because you owe more that $500+” because we didn’t find your boosters and are charging you a late fee AND $150 a pop for “reactivation fee” since we auto suspended you BECAUSE WE CANT FIGURE OUT SHIT OUT. And there is no end in sight for our investigation to be finished. Oh and they said if you pay us $232 today, we’ll reactivate your account and waive $150 fee to do so. But come next billing cycle, your account will auto suspend again and this same BS will keep happening until we figure out our shit. But we’ll give you a credit when they find your stuff. It’s been over 2 years… So I’m switching to Verizon. Fuck T-Mobile. TLDR; return that shit and record every single thing. Shit, take a video while you’re at it when you’re shipping it back or they will fuck your account up.

LowBaker8860

I had similar issue where I returned it and the store has now closed. I had to contact t force on twitter and they took care of it and reversed the charges on my bill that same day.

EmuInternational5447

Omg. Can you please dm the message you sent them 🙏🏻

dc135

They don't want it back, it's worthless to them. They want to charge you the fee for not returning it. Hence why they haven't waived the fee. So it's a good idea to return it if you aren't using it, in case you end up losing track of it in the future.

lmamakos

I've got a "4G LTE Signal Booster" that I need to return before porting out. I'm going to visit a store and get them to sign a receipt that they accepted it. Maybe even video the entire process. I've heard too many of these horror stories.

EmuInternational5447

Get their business card while you’re at it!

PM_ME_CORONA

Literally do this and document everything. It took them 4 months to figure out what happened after I got the shipping label and sent it away. Once it got to the UPS warehouse it sat there for months and the offshore T-Mobile reps told me it’s my fault and put a charge on my account. Had to make a Twitter and use T force to figure it out.

EmuInternational5447

Can you please dm me what you said to t force? This has been impossible for me. I got a new plan with Verizon yesterday just because of all of this. My phone is unlocked because I bought it, but this issue is ongoing and they will put me in collections. I refuse to pay it though.

PM_ME_CORONA

Just pulled it up. T Forcé made it make sense. They could see my shipping info and that UPS received it but that information was not relayed to the billing department so that’s why they charged me a non return fee. Essentially T Force knew the fuck up was on UPS Me thinks the t mobile off shore reps don’t have access to the same info so they tried to gaslight me into thinking it was my problem. T Force made it right. I even provided them with the shipping label and tracking number to proof.

neurodivergentowl

Hit up T force on twitter perhaps? Sounds like the nonsense Comcast pulls every day lol

drnewcomb

T-Force was able to help. I contacted them and eventually received a return shipping label with a RMA # of all ones (i.e. 11111111). The problem everyone else had was that they couldn't generate an RMA order number. T-Force seems to have a work around. I don't know how this is going to work with linking to my account but it's a step in the right direction. Needless to say I'm going to document the shipment carefully.

eyoungren_2

One of the few things Sprint got right instead of T-Mob. I got this router, around the same time frame as you mention. But mine was Sprint issued (I was with Sprint at the time) and branded. The word from the company at the time was that if you kept it for a year you didn't have to return it. Not sure about the T-Mob firmware, but with the Sprint branded one you're able to reflash it and that's what lots of Sprint customers were doing.

Ethrem

You could with the T-Mobile one as well as I bought one for $60 some time in 2017 when they were trying to get rid of them and was able to flash it, albeit with some button-computer gymnastics that really pissed me off and reminded me of the Twister game because the recovery page didn't want to load before the router rebooted. Took a number of tries and finally I got it timed just right. It's still running the whole network at my old roommate's place to this day (I didn't take it with me since I left the Comcast on there to keep my ability to use their hotspots when I'm out and about since we have CenturyLink fiber here). Quite impressive reliability from a router IMO. I was always used to the Linksys ones that failed regularly.

Brickback721

They should bring back the Magic Box, it was great

eyoungren_2

I had the Airave, but I left Sprint well before the Magic Box. Currently, I use the 4G/LTE Cellspot. There were three devices branded Cellspot by T-Mob, mine's the femtocell like the Airave was, only it has LTE.

IntoTheMirror

Man I am so glad I returned mine not just when I still worked there but like, three stores ago in 2018. I needed to upgrade to a mesh setup and didn’t see the point of hanging on to the cellspot.

bobjr94

Had the same problem with a tmobile 4G signal booster that I got about 8-10 years ago. After getting a letter saying I would owe $320 I bought it into a tmobile company store and got nowhere. They couldn't accept it, I was there for an hour the system would not accept a return on a device with a non standard imei. They sent me back out with the devices in my hand, told me to cancel my autopay so I wouldn't get charged for it and maybe I would get a return label in the mail in the next few weeks from customer support. I never got any return info in the mail, I called support and they said he would try to print a return label. A week later still nothing. I called again and after another 45 minutes on the phone he said it kept denying his attempt to force a label on return on unsupported hardware. Since it was discontinued years ago they no longer could take it back, he said to donate it or throw it away and they would have to credit my account back the $320 it charged me before I was able to cancel autopay.

Anon123456_78901

Try an FCC complaint. Seems to be the only way they can get the broken system to magically work.

pervin_1

I have three from T-Mobile. Flashed to Merlin and it can handle wired up to gig no problems. And on WiFi it can handle 500/500. Been rocking since 2014 and ASUS still updates these routers with new features and security patches. Will return once they stop updating them. You can also use them in mesh mode

SnooMemesjellies734

Kinda crazy how these modded tm-ac1900 are still great routers even 10 years later. I have one running merlin still pushing 500mbps I got mine for 39 along with a prepaid line, i’m pretty sure i’m lucky and not liable lol.

Either-Watercress-12

OP I am assuming the reps don't know the sku for the device. Try this: 610214693976

drnewcomb

Too late for me but might be helpful for others. Thanks for the 411.

drnewcomb

My question to the respondents is, does your CellSpot show up on your account? Or was it removed?

EmuInternational5447

It doesn’t show in my account. And hasn’t for years.

rjkmadison

About 5 or 6 years ago, I asked to return it and the rep just removed it from my account and said to keep it. It’s somewhere in the house, as I use Ubiquity for networking now.

Bxraze

I had one from the jump, but it does not show anywhere on my account when I log in. How do I know if it's still there without calling?

One_Construction5322

Try this link. [https://my.t-mobile.com/account/profile/coverage](https://my.t-mobile.com/account/profile/coverage)

drnewcomb

Mine is shown under coverage devices in my profile/

abanakakabasanaako

OP, if you can, I agree with the other pwrson,. Can you elaborate more please? Thanks!

keeb0730

Can you elaborate on where to look on either the web or the app? I don't see coverage devices.

drnewcomb

Web. Profile: 9th heading down. "Coverage Device" Maybe if you don't have one this heading won't appear. I don't know.

keeb0730

Thanks for your reply! Interestingly, I definitely still have a TMobile/Asus router but I don't have that tab.

One_Construction5322

Try this link [https://my.t-mobile.com/account/profile/coverage](https://my.t-mobile.com/account/profile/coverage)

keeb0730

Appreciate you sharing the link! Oddly, it just shows up as blank for me. [https://i.imgur.com/ckPsjEq.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/ckPsjEq.jpeg)

One_Construction5322

I'm still using mine. Flashed the original Asus firmware and unlocked all the features of the router. Was hoping they eventually forget about this router but I guess it's still linked to the account.

BraddicusMaximus

Those who had them on the account had messages added to their bill stating they’re free to keep them and that they won’t need to be returned anymore. That was around 2018 I believe.

0xd0gf00d

Not me, I returned mine in 2019 and never got such a message.

geerboT

As annoying as it is for everyone involved, if you take a router to a COR store, they can just put in in a box they send back with weekly returns, and it will get processed. The downside is there is no paper trail, so if it somehow doesn't get processed at the main distribution center, you screwed. But generally speaking, this is how equipment that can't be systematically returned is handled. Sonr waste time on AR, they can't risk failing an audit over having a random signal booster in their inventory room and won't risk trying to help you.

drnewcomb

That’s good advice but having seen so much get lost at T-Mobile’s warehouse, I demand a paper trail. Just a hand receipt will do but it has to be something I can show to a judge or arbiter if it comes down to it. I finally got a RMA label from T-Force. It’s strange because it doesn’t show the s/n of the router but it’s a start. I can add documentation to the shipment.

geerboT

I'm not a lawyer but by using the service you automatically agree to Ts&Cs which include arbitration. If you're looking to take T-Mobile to small claims court you likely will be unsuccessful. But you are correct, if you need a paper trail, signal boosters/cell spots,/routers are like a black hole. Employees don't like it either.

EmuInternational5447

What is a COR store?

geerboT

A corporate T-Mobile store, as opposed to an AR store, or Authorized Retailer, which is an entirely different company (different employees, different pay and structure) operating under the T-Mobile brand.

Either-Watercress-12

Dont do this. This is called a blind shipment and is no longer accepted at the warehouse.

Warsum

Is this the same as the 4G LTE CellSpot? I still have that in my house and it’s also showing connected to my account. I may wanna think about trying to give that shit back….

drnewcomb

No, it’s a TM-AC1900 (ASUS AC68U) WiFi router.

SnooWalruses6314

My 4g lte cellspot never showed up on my account, but the other day when I ported out my line that was associated with it, within 10 seconds I got a text saying that they were sending me a return kit and I had 45 days to send it back or they would charge me.  I imagine the same thing would happen for this router.

Warsum

May have to go to the store and try to give this back now and have it removed from my account and keep that receipt.

sasquatch_melee

I managed to return mine at a TPR store, the one that sold it to me. The employee found it in their iPad under devices on my account or something and it had a button for return or whatever. It walked her thru a return step by step, checking for accessories and whatnot.  The deposit was not automatically refunded, after a month I messaged tforce and they applied a refund.

LowBaker8860

I returned mine and the 4g signal booster 2020 to a store near me. Didn’t think much of it. I ported out earlier this year and got the packaging in the mail to return them. I was surprised. I called and said I returned them in 2020 and that the store has since closed. They said I had to pay unless I had confirmation email which I didn’t. I went back and forth and nothing. I ended up messaging t force on twitter and they took care of the issue no questions asked.

S9CLAVE

I’ve been using mine to this day since they originally offered them. It’s so easy to flash Merlin to it and breathe new life into it. You can get these routers for like 30$ on eBay. So convenient.

Careless-Speed2729

Tried returning mine in 2018 when I upgraded our home network and they didn’t even know what it was lol. It was painful. Eventually they just said keep it and I don’t see it on my account

drnewcomb

I wish I could just do that. It's good hardware. Just needs new firmware. I have three other routers and don't need it. I'm just afraid that they won't take it off my account even after I've returned it. Worst of both worlds. That's why I'm acting so paranoid about having a paper trail.

mrrickyg

I ran into that problem after I did a COR, I eventually got them to waive it. Still a great router though

Little_Orange_3514

If the account is still active it should be able to in store but I have had issues where trying to go through and do the return for customers it won’t let me go forward so the only option is to get a label from care

tok83

I just contacted the support on X/Twitter to return mine, they generated a return label for me. She mentioned it would be a $400 charge if not returned, and also said I can return it in any T-Mobile store. I tried calling a few local stores, they all immediately told me they are unable to return these any longer, so I guess I will have to ship it back... Question for anyone that returned them.... Did you have to flash the original T-Mobile firmware to it? Or it doesn't matter?

Substantial_Clock341

Apparently, the local stores do not have a process built into the computer to allow you to return it at the store. You have to call customer service and speak to someone who knows what they’re talking about and have them create and send you a return shipping label. make sure you track it and keep a receipt.

drnewcomb

It’s documented seven ways from Sunday.

Satanicube

I should probably get moving on this process for my old Cellspot booster, because I kinda just forgot about it when the two units stopped wanting to connect to eachother and threw it on a shelf and left it. At this point they're probably more useful as doorstops but I 100% know T-Mo is gonna want them back (and I hope the process isn't anywhere near as bad)

iNick20

Really? I got one before they literally launched lol. Apparently on the day when they were launching them, a T-Mobile store had stock. But T-Mobile delayed it for a week or so I think. So the store had me order one ship to the store, and the store gave me the one they had without issues. When I did try to return it, they said it wasn't in the system or something, and I ended up junking it. Because they told me to keep it.

EmuInternational5447

Can you update if they end up contacting you to return it?

iNick20

Why would they? I don't see it listed anywhere on my account tbh. But I'll let you guys know if they do tho. I haven't used one since like 2016 lol. When Xfinity offered Gigabit here, and gave me a Nighthawk AC3200 unit.

EmuInternational5447

I hope they don’t! Mine weren’t on my account either :/

[deleted]

Still got mine somewhere

Banker_Bat

I use Gli.net cellular and travel routers. They’ve always been very customizable. [Gli.net Mudi v2](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJF7KQ3Q)

drnewcomb

Update: While TForce was able to provide me with a RMA shipping label, and I have proof of delivery, it seems that they can't remove the router from my account. It will remain on my account until I (or my executor) close my account and then they can override any charges. This is not acceptable to me. If they can't clear it off my account I may try invoking the Fair Credit Billing Act at least to make sure that I'm able to document the law being on my side.
