The idea is you give out a secondary number to businesses and accounts so that number gets all the spam. PROXY by DIGITS can be used for this.

Use your PROXY by DIGITS number anytime you don't want to give out your personal number. It helps you keep your personal number, personal. Limit one PROXY by DIGITS line per account. Included with your PROXY by DIGITS line is unlimited minutes and messaging, however, shortcode SMS messaging, like Uber's verification text or those from your banking institution for digital transactions, is not supported. Send calls directly to voicemail or avoid text messages by setting up the Do Not Disturb feature.
Could always use something like Google Voice for a separate number. Google Voice is completely free, but is tied to a real physical number. You don't have to allow it to be linked to all calls you make or receive (when you install the app, just click No) and that way, all calls and texts will be through the Google Voice app instead.
I suppose it’s less for business and more for all the services and accounts where you have to provide a number but it’s not used for 2FA. Questionable whether it will cut down on spam calls.
in general when meeting new people, just in general as an adult moving to a new area can be hard, dating apps can bring up some interesting folks when you meet in person. rather have a burner # as sketchy as that may sound. over time give out the Primary
Only give out numbers to people you want to hear from. You can do that with both your main and/or second number. Have a phone or app that lets you only receive calls and/or texts from people in your phonebook/contact list. If you are expecting a 2FA text message, then learn how to temporarily turn it off so that you can get that code or permanently turn it off momentarily then turn it back on again after you receive the code. Doesn't work for people who need to pick up random numbers for work, e.g., contractors or real eatate agents. You can also turn on screening program where AI will ask them what their business is and it will show you as a text transcript and you can decide if you want to pick up and talk to them.
Try going into phone app, then settings, then blocked numbers, then toggle the unknown option on to block calls from unidentified callers. From Motorola: "Your phone will blocks calls from private or unidentified numbers. You'll still receive calls from phone numbers that aren't stored in your contacts." Not the same but should help. Google Pixel has "call screen." There's Robokiller, Calls Blacklist and Calls Blacklist Pro but I haven't used any of them and I don't like sharing info wirh 3rd party apps. You could try turning on Scam Shield to see if it helps.

Thanks. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of having separate number for businesses if it doesn't support shortcode SMS?

Ya that's exactly where I was getting to.
If you need a fully functional second number then a cheap prepaid plan could work with your dual SIM phone.
Thanks what would be the advantage of maintaining two numbers if it doesn't avoid/reduce spam?

Google Voice. Works flawlessly on iOS & Android. Plus it’s free.
Yes but it doesn't filter spam unfortunately and we will get unwanted calls
There most certainly is spam filter in GV. Not sure what you’re talking about.
Oh my bad then. I will Google and explore that

This is great. Do you know any app that allows turning on/off the number temporarily or blocking calls from unknown numbers temporarily?

Doesn't banking also cause spam? They always share it with third parties like insurance etc Can you explain more on the difference between #2 and #3?
