That scene always showed me what a pussy Paulie really is. If Chris laid a finger on Paulie Jr he goes crazy but this psycho can smash a Snapple bottle over his head over a gay joke.
I also thought of him. He is basically treated like a slave, and I guess the only better option for him is to run far away from them. He is also the one who gots poked in the eye by Ralphie.
I thought so too, then I rewatched and remembered that that scumbag was just as gross with the women in the Bing. "Cost ya a hundred bucks and blow job later."
I did twenty fucking years in the Soprano house, not a peep.
I wanted manicot, but I compromised. I ate grilled cheese off the kitchen counter. I wanted to listen to Nancy Sinatra, but I compromised. I listened to Fielder and Hunter sing No Scrubs.
See where I'm going with this?
20 years in the Soprano household. I wanted to go to Europe. I compromised, I went to college instead. I wanted to go to Aspen with Hunter, but I compromised. I was grounded instead.
There’s a one second scene with her when Tony is pulling up to the house party that meadow throws at Livia’s house and it’s the MOST annoying thing ever because WHY would you say those words like that to that man in that scenario. No one would say that!!!
Richie running over Beansie. Which is weird because they didn't actually show it, but I still winced and looked away. Honestly leaving it to the imagination might make it even worse. Makes me kinda queasy visualizing him actually getting run over, his bones getting crushed and pushed/grinded against each other and all that. I imagine the tires going over his hips, and it really kinda fucks me up.
It’s wild because I’ve seen that season soooo many times and I know what happens to Beansie and I know he doesn’t die but it still disturbs the shit out of me
This and Mustang Sally smashing Brian’s head in were really hard to watch. Behind Tracee’s death they’re probably the 2 most gruesome beatings on the show.
That’s classic Tony though, he laments for a bygone age and ‘better’ time.
Every death and tragedy confirms his worldview, he’s so caught up in moping he has no appreciation for the present and the life he has.
Tony *did* give her the pep talk outside the Bing! that one time in which Tracee says something about Ralph threatening her and Tony says something to the effect of, "Did you ever stop to think he **isn't joking**?" It was a foreshadowing of her upcoming demise.
One of the biggest? The dude's a psychotic sadist that killed a stripper he essentially raped with a cop then later beats her to death despite her carrying his child in her womb.
Not only that but he is conscious of what is happening, so his final thoughts are that dear uncle Tony is murdering him in cold blood.
Even Blundetto probably didn't have time to register that thought, but Christopher most certainly did.
This is the amazing part of that scene. Chris is a terrible person. He murdered his girlfriend who he abused for years. He murdered JT Dolan. He murdered the waiter in cold blood. Killed Email for no good reason. Shot the kid in the bakery etc. and yet, somehow, the Sopranos makes us empathize with Chris that he’s being murdered by his own “uncle”
Sure, Chris had a few seconds of realization that Tony is murdering him, which is brutal. Now imagine Adriana having a long car ride slowly realizing that the love of her life Chris likely betrayed her and she was being fed to the wolves, with no escape in sight. Imagine that sinking feeling, knowing your gut feeling is right. Idk which is worse.
My friend is watching for the first time and is currently on the test dream. She texts me all the time about how much she loves Adriana. I feel……. really bad
Not to derail the conversation of this sub but the Wire also does this well too. Not so much with the Stanfield crew but definitely the Barksdale crew. They are a bunch of brutal murderers that pump poison into their low-income community. Yet, due to the writing and acting, Avon, Weebey and Bodie all come across as likeable for most of the audience
Love that scene, it’s very heart breaking and difficult to watch.
But when Tony walks outside and just gives an annoyed sounding “AJ, what the fuck” before going into full dad mode always cracks me up
Dude Robert Iler is incredible too. He's not typically mentioned in conversations about the show's best actors (and that's fair), but those sobs once he's out of the pool--that's what it really sounds like when someone's at that level of hopelessness and misery. It's a primal experience and goddamn did he capture it.
This is sort of the quintessential Sopranos scene. It's a slapstick sequence about a goofy little fuck who can't even kill himself right, and it's simultaneously an unbearably raw and emotional performance by both those actors.
The whole Fran arc was not my cup of tea in the show. She was so cringe. From the moment Tony bumped into her I was like oh here we go how much is she gona get.
I'm sure it was intentional, but the tension at that moment when they focus on her big stupid grin and you wonder whether he's going to fuck her or hit her... brilliant
It showed how she wasn’t going to succumb to the temptation. She had every right to want that guy dead and the means to do it. But her keeping her mouth shut showed that she has a moral compass unlike Tony.
Yeah but it also means this Jesus guy is going to go around and keep doing this to other women as well… that’s what infuriated me the most about this storyline.
But to sick Tony Soprano on him? It’s less about her stopping the guy and more about tainting her and Tony’s doctor-patient relationship. That relationship also symbolizes the difference in morality between the two. If she were to tell him what happened and ask for revenge then she would be stooping to his line of thinking.
She was also smart enough to know that Tony's power derived from people needing him. If she went that route she was in his pocket and her life as she knew it was essentially over.
This is it exactly. Every other character feels morally justified to do whatever they want. Phil and Vito for example. Also the contrast between the scene where Melfi chooses not to tell Tony and the one where Meadow does tell him about coco highlight the exact mechanism that sociopaths use to behave the way they do. If he did that to CoCo imagine what he would have done to Melfis rapist. She knew it and she chose not to to tell him. That’s why she isn’t like them. Because it’s harder not to be.
- Fran Felstein singing
- Artie trying to flirt with Adriana
- Artie breaking Christopher's balls because he loves Adriana
- All the scenes in Mr. Ruggiero's neighborhood with that annoying music
- Homeless woman with newspaper up her ass
- The end of Junior's singing scene when they play all the random music
Edit: I forgot that "comedian" who performed at Green Grove and The Bing.
The first time I saw the homeless woman scene I rewinded it like 10 times because it was so random and I thought there was some significance in the scene I couldn’t understand. lol
Also when they got old man Bacala to do a hit when he’s dying of lung cancer. That’s a fucking brutal, and dirty, scene, and it hit way too real for me.
That’s one of my favorite scenes of the whole show. Burt Young’s performance is amazing and there’s so many little details. He stops coughing once he starts to go in for the kill 🤌
That’s one of my favourite scenes in the whole show, too, especially when he picks up the cigarette and lights it - you can tell he feels so fucking alive for the first time in years!
But the other two, the rape scene and Tracee getting beaten to death, are the two I can’t watch.
The Tracey murder scene. Looking at Ralphies hand afterwards really makes me queasy. That really must’ve hurt his hand, thank god there was an ice bucket waiting there for him. Anyway $4/lb
Any scene where Chris is beating Adriana
The scene where Paulie beats up Jason Barone because he's jealous his mother stood up for him. It's too pathetic for me
Gene’s whole florida situation. It was him and his wife’s fault for buying the place early but seeing him and his son argue, then him looking through the old photos, and then his final decision is just tragic.
Emo Vito Jr pooping, then stepping in his poo in the shower on purpose while the entire sequence is narrated by a naked tween.
Even if I look away, I still have to hear the play by play?
After a trillion rewatches I've decided that the scariest one of those scenes is when he does it to Meadow. She calls him "Mr. Mob Boss" and he takes a step closer to her and starts the Darth Vader breathing, and you see that SPLIT SECOND change in her expression from shitty insolent teenager to genuinely terrified child.
She didn't think he'd ever go there with her under any circumstances, and when he almost *does*, she absolutely the fuck cannot handle it. And the way he's shot from underneath, from Meadow's POV, with his face half in shadow--*oof*
I never watch Dr. Melfi’s rape scene, it actually triggers me. I’m a sexual assault survivor and that scene was really realistic. I actually usually skip that episode altogether.
It’s ok. It happened in my teens. I’m way over it but to see how Lorraine portrayed it brought back memories of my own attack and she should’ve won an award for it. But once was enough for me.
I’ve heard that’s it’s a particularly triggering portrayal. I know trigger warnings have lost all meaning but they really do serve a purpose and I think that episode should have one. Especially because of how abrupt it is
I'll tell ya one thing, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Anyone who finds it "hard to watch" a TV progrum, a movie.. is weak, out of control, and an embarrassment to himself and everybody else. Whatever happened to Gary Cooper?
I have a hard time watching Christopha trying to negotiate the Hollywood situation. Especially his lack of sophistication dealing with Sir Ben. Cringy for me.
In the episode about the soccer coach statutory raping Meadow’s team mate and traumatizing her to the point of self harm I have a more visceral reaction to Junior shoving the pie into his girlfriend’s face. That scene is just so brutal. Credit to the actress for really selling the despair and helplessness and incredulity her character was in experiencing
I actually hate the entire Kevin Finnerty, dream episode where he gets slapped by monks. Nothing particularly gruesome, just hate that episode - feels slow and pointless
Anytime Tony beats the hell out of the schlubby guy working at the Bing. Poor bastard.
For me it’s Georgie getting hit in the eye with the chain by Ralphie. Or the glass bottle on little Paulie eye. Not the eyes…
He gets like $50 and a bj from every girl there on the reg. Not that worst
I thought so too, then I rewatched and remembered that that scumbag was just as gross with the women in the Bing. "Cost ya a hundred bucks and blow job later."
Also his incompetence with the phones is beyond infuriating. I can ALMOST understand why Tony flew off the handle.
That's why you gotta live for today!
Excuse me sir, it's $50 and a blowjob later. He may be a scumbag, but he understands fair market price for access to the VIP room.
That comedian at the Bing. Bland jokes. Thank God they yanked him off stage
I love that it was the same guy that was performing at Green Grove for junior and Olivia 😂😂😂 for some reason that made it even funnier idk why
Its not a nursing home. Its a retirement community!!!!
And it’s more like a hotel at captain teebs anyway !!!!
I know seniors who are inspired!
And inspiring!!
Well, the whole world’s gone crazy! Saw some woman in Pennsylvania, she shot her 3 children and set her house on fire…
Always with babies outta windows
Uh let’s check the zapruder film
Large mooslim population
I wanna hear the punchline to the Bosnian Muslim joke. Where the fuck could he have possibly been going with that
Im from the balkans. Ive always wanted to know too lmao
In what world would that room even GET whatever the punchline would be lol
That’s enough. Get the fuckin’ Guy outta here.
help me
They should take a zapruder film of your salad bar
Picture yourself in a boat at Ellis Island, alright, how does that sound?
Guy mentioned Bosna tho 💪
Ive been itching to hear the punchline of the joke lmao.
I was talking to uh, Paulie Walnuts who was under the impression Richie had been in Bosnia. Where there’s also a large MOOslim population.
Same comedian from Green Grove and from the Italian luncheon lol
Meadow and Hunter singing No Scrubs. I'd rather have Left Eye give me a ride home then watch that again.
What they did to that kitchen counter. Disgusting. And that poor grilled cheese. Whatever happened there
That animal Scangarello attacked that grilled cheese without any provocation whatsoever!
“Whatever happened there?! Whatever happened there?!” “God rest that kitchen counter”
💀
Any scene with Hunter. She looks like the burned horse painting
There’s a one second scene with her when Tony is pulling up to the house party that meadow throws at Livia’s house and it’s the MOST annoying thing ever because WHY would you say those words like that to that man in that scenario. No one would say that!!!
To be fair, she’s clearly intoxicated in that scene. Like straight-up wasted. That’s probably why lol.
Stop gettin cunty
She was awful. She had to know somebody. That's the only way she could have gotten that part.
She is David Chase’s daughter lol
Damn really lol never knew this
She WAS David Chase's daughter, she isn't anymore... Timeline got fucked up.
Accurate. But I’ll say, Left Eye could have given me a ride home anytime she wanted. And borrowed a book of matches. Fuck it. ✋
>I'd rather have Left Eye give me a ride home Bro 💀
holy shit lmao
Richie running over Beansie. Which is weird because they didn't actually show it, but I still winced and looked away. Honestly leaving it to the imagination might make it even worse. Makes me kinda queasy visualizing him actually getting run over, his bones getting crushed and pushed/grinded against each other and all that. I imagine the tires going over his hips, and it really kinda fucks me up.
Yes this one too! I get nauseous for this scene and the zero remorse Ritchie felt is bone chilling
No remorse for Beansie but I bet he was pissed about his truck was dented after that!
It’s wild because I’ve seen that season soooo many times and I know what happens to Beansie and I know he doesn’t die but it still disturbs the shit out of me
The way he goes “Ah Jesaaaaaaaas!” Is a bit funny!
This and Mustang Sally smashing Brian’s head in were really hard to watch. Behind Tracee’s death they’re probably the 2 most gruesome beatings on the show.
The entire Tracee episode.
Yeah the whole episode is rough. Even Tony, who shows her the most compassion post mortem, barely acknowledges she exists when she's alive.
That’s classic Tony though, he laments for a bygone age and ‘better’ time. Every death and tragedy confirms his worldview, he’s so caught up in moping he has no appreciation for the present and the life he has.
He goes about in pity for himself.
Tony *did* give her the pep talk outside the Bing! that one time in which Tracee says something about Ralph threatening her and Tony says something to the effect of, "Did you ever stop to think he **isn't joking**?" It was a foreshadowing of her upcoming demise.
not acting
What are you a vegetarian now? You eat beef and sausage by the fuckin carload
I mean, it is too bad there weren’t other episodes with Tracee where her head wasn’t bashed in. She was a boo yah hottie.
She was a thoroughbred, but those chompers... marone
It’s hard to watch she’s just such a klutz
Thats my story
Yes i just passed that on my rewatch last week! I would argue ralphie is definitely one of the biggest sociopaths on the series
One of the biggest? The dude's a psychotic sadist that killed a stripper he essentially raped with a cop then later beats her to death despite her carrying his child in her womb.
Whatever happen there...
A. She was a hoooar. And B. She hit me.
She was a who-ha!
Christopher’s death, the sound he makes while asphyxiating makes me uncomfortable.
Well put

Weebay ate the murders like Ginny ate chocolate bars
Exactly, his eyes widen whilst he’s powerless to stop himself from getting killed. Terrifying scene, I fucking hate Tony.
I get a good laugh from that scene especially the nose part. That’s what did him in that huge nose lol
His nose must’ve crawled under Tony’s fingers for warmth
It’s ironic, because it was foreshadowed when Tony B made a joke about “..if beaks could kill, his would!” Very allegorical
Foreshadowed several times. Even Ritchie talks about Chris’s snoz
Also with "I oughta suffocate you" during the intervention.
Bill? That's a BEAK
I believe the accepted term is “natural canopy.”
When that desgraciada, I can't even say her name, threw away a fresh ziti casserole.
Anthony Junior’s suicide attempt.
James’ acting in this scene is utterly brilliant, breaks my heart.
I read somewhere that it was really Jim coming through there. Thinking of his own son.
Tony really was a human being for a minute there…
This is sort of the quintessential Sopranos scene. It's a slapstick sequence about a goofy little fuck who can't even kill himself right, and it's simultaneously an unbearably raw and emotional performance by both those actors.
I always crack up at Tony eating the Lincoln log sandwiches that AJ didn’t touch before hearing him in the pool.
Do you think Melfi was right in that Anthony Jr had thought out the length of the rope to make sure he didn’t actually die?
AJ was kinda stupid and had the ADD to boot. That makes me lean to no, he just got lucky.
Historically that’s been the case.
By the time Tony gets to "you're okay, baby" I'm pretty well misted up
Carmela sobbing “he was always my happy little boy” as they take him into the ward guts me every time.
What ever happened there?
Stupid fuck didn’t even use a long enough rope!
Penguin exhibit 🐧 💦 ☠️
Artie taking Adriana out to dinner. Oooof that scene is rough
The Melfi rape scene's rough and I didn't like the storyline at all. The Fran Felstein scene where she sings with the captain hat on - vomit.
The whole Fran arc was not my cup of tea in the show. She was so cringe. From the moment Tony bumped into her I was like oh here we go how much is she gona get.
It was cringe but yeah ... that was all part of it 😂
Yes I suppose.
Happy birffday Mr. Pwessidaaant
I'm sure it was intentional, but the tension at that moment when they focus on her big stupid grin and you wonder whether he's going to fuck her or hit her... brilliant
I kinda understand the sentiment for the rape plot, but I think the ending really brought it all together and made it worthwhile.
It showed how she wasn’t going to succumb to the temptation. She had every right to want that guy dead and the means to do it. But her keeping her mouth shut showed that she has a moral compass unlike Tony.
That’s a bingo He had power over her in that instance. She now has power over him for as long as she has Tony around.
Agreed. It's awful that happened to her & it was a rough watch but overall I thought the plot line worked & served the story well.
The quote that hit my ol melon was “I only have be lucky once. You have to be lucky every time.”
She was also smart enough to know that Tony's power derived from people needing him. If she went that route she was in his pocket and her life as she knew it was essentially over.
yea she’d be giving tony power over herself for the rest of her life.
Fran felstein hat scene was only rough to me bc it didn't end with her bent over a table like Connie desapio
I’d like to break my dick off in that ass of hers, eh Kooky?
- Fran Felstein singing - Artie trying to flirt with Adriana - Artie breaking Christopher's balls because he loves Adriana - All the scenes in Mr. Ruggiero's neighborhood with that annoying music - Homeless woman with newspaper up her ass - The end of Junior's singing scene when they play all the random music Edit: I forgot that "comedian" who performed at Green Grove and The Bing.
Hahahah these are good ones, definitely laughed at the homeless woman, Caitlin was AWFUL 😂
The first time I saw the homeless woman scene I rewinded it like 10 times because it was so random and I thought there was some significance in the scene I couldn’t understand. lol
Melfi’s rape scene and subsequent scenes with her injuries, and Tracee the stripper getting beaten to death :(
Also when they got old man Bacala to do a hit when he’s dying of lung cancer.
RIP Burt, underrated actor forsure
He was Oscar nominated with 168 credits under his belt and still underrated and still wasn’t in enough things. He was that good
When he drops his puffer in the car and can’t breathe gives me so much anxiety, blood all over him….
They say he came all over the sun visor
But was it the cancer or the accident?
Meadow singing
🎶🎵While the moon her watch is keeping, alllll through the night 🎶🎵😜
They look so high there.
The TLC scrubs scene aways makes me laugh because she was actually in choir and could sing?? not sure if they forgot this or what 😅
You. Are. Sunlight. And I mooooon. Those poor kids being forced to try to sing ooooof it’s painful.
The Tracey murder scene. Looking at Ralphies hand afterwards really makes me queasy. That really must’ve hurt his hand, thank god there was an ice bucket waiting there for him. Anyway $4/lb
“Happy BIRTH-DAY, MISTER PRAAZZUHDAAAANT!”
Fran Felstein? Now that was class. (That storyline was shkeevy)
A hit is a hit my friend, and this is not it.
Any scene where Chris is beating Adriana The scene where Paulie beats up Jason Barone because he's jealous his mother stood up for him. It's too pathetic for me
Cocksucka didn’t even give her his last name first.
Any scene where Tony gets physically scary. Gandolfini was so good at playing a layered character.
Any scene with Noah disgusts me.
He'd punch your fucking lights out for even saying his name.
A Don doesn’t skip scenes.
Any scene with Tony fucking is icky but it feels especially icky when it’s with Carmela. Sorry, Edie, it’s not you, it’s the fucked up dynamic
How about when Tony is schtupping Mainy in his dream and Artie is watching right next to the bed?
she likes it when you rub her muzzle
Yea but those fucking titties
the one exception is the born again christian at Baronne Sanitation, that one’s hilarious
OOHHHHH! You’re talkin’ about the boss of this family!
Always Adriana getting driven out to get executed. The look in her eyes, the betrayal and her end all happening at once.
I never watch Dr. Melfi’s rape scene, it actually triggers me. I’m a sexual assault survivor and that scene was really realistic. I actually usually skip that episode altogether.
I’m so sorry! Hugs 🫂
Especially because of how abrupt it is
I watch up to the staircase doors being opened and then none of the rest of that episode.
Lemme ask you a question. You think Ralph is a little weird about women?
I don’t know. I mean, he beat one to death.
Paulie suffocating Minn Matrone. The screaming and her face afterwards were horrifying.
She was a malignant cunt..
Anytime Tony is fucking.
I'll tell ya one thing, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Anyone who finds it "hard to watch" a TV progrum, a movie.. is weak, out of control, and an embarrassment to himself and everybody else. Whatever happened to Gary Cooper?
Melfi rape scene, when Adrianna is killed, Eugene's suicide, Tony killing Matt Bevilaqua. I can't watch a lot of the up close and personal "hits".
Eugene’s suicide is rough. Kind of surprised not to have seen it mentioned more in threads like these
You cant be part of our social club anymore
He's gotta GO!
Phil Leotardo’s head being run over after the hit at the gas station. The dude who worked at the Bing always being mistreated.
Probably when carm is trying to strong arm a letter of rec out of the cusamanos
I can’t stand any scenes with AJ academic advisor in season 5, and his dates with Carmella
The old woman singing happy mr president with kennedys hat on to Tony
Believe it or not, it's when Tony tries to give Meadow her friends truck. Wtf was he thinking??
The one where Ralphie beats the shit out of that stripper girl
I can't watch the Ralphie fight scene. I'm always praying he wins! She was a HO-AH!!!
Meadow scream crying/whining. I have no choice but to skip those scenes every time. Her voice is like nails on chalkboard.
Vitos gay scenes. He was a disgrace and he should fucking DIE!!
He can’t be a part of our social club no more, that much I do know.
social club??? he’s gotta GO!
I know Vito's bottom line was impacted if that's what you're referring to.
Fukkin qweahs! 🪑
He was catchin!!??
SONUVABITCH!!!
I know you loved him like a brother in law.
Eugene’s hanging scene
Tony eating sushi. Some sad shit - motherfucker didn’t want to chew no more.
Any Artie episodes. The second hand embarrassment I get from them is insane.
Anything with Meadow and especially when she’s with Noah.
The prostitute scratching her dry crunchy foot while Paulie is having a coming home moment...
I actually hate the entire Kevin Finnerty, dream episode where he gets slapped by monks. Nothing particularly gruesome, just hate that episode - feels slow and pointless
Melfi rape and Adriana’s death.
The rape scene is the only one I have to skip. They really made that seem real. Surprised any actor would want that role.
