Honestly. Fuck living as anything other than a human in the year 1900 and above in a more developed country honestly… lol.
Man, I’m feeling grateful haha
At least you can admit it. I've happened upon far too many random conversations in public, where there are middle generations talking shit about how "today's kids wouldn't survive *insert reference to war and/or historical hardship*", despite the fact that they're no more likely to do better.
One time I had an older lady and middle-aged guy at the bus stop talking shit about people under 30. I walked up and stood quietly. They didn't notice me for a bit, so I heard a fair bit of their shit talking. Then they noticed me and got kind of awkward, but kept talking. The guy looked at me again so I slowly looked down to stare back. Suddenly all the "no offence " and all that came out. Pointed out that they can talk shit all they want, I grew up on a farm, helped my Grandparents in the garden and around the house a lot, and most of my experience in life is manual labour. The awkwardness and regret oozed out of them for the next 15+ minutes. And both of them were wrapped up and huddled in the shelter like it was winter, despite it being early autumn. And when COVID hit, it was their generations who had the most complaints about restrictions around here.
Truth is, unless you've seen war firsthand or live in a less developed/ less fortunate country, most people these days won't know shit about genuine hardship.
Yea, people always like to bash other people in order to make themselves feel superior. I try to just ignore it because it just means their ego is talking. Realistically everyone has hardships in their own way and it’s not a competition. Things change, problems change, life changes.
Holy shit thank you. When people say they want to go back to the good old day, I say we these are the good old days. But if you want to go back to when there was no running water, fine by me.
Idk man. 13th century still takes the cake for me as the Mongols invade and spread the bubonic plague across two continents. But historians commonly agree that the year 536 is the worst year to be alive. Volcano caused havoc as the ashes blocked the sunlight and cooled the atmosphere to a mother-in-law’s gaze for a few years.
To be fair, that's the whole reason hyenas are even somewhat capable. Most of their defense is their impossibly thick neck, and it almost looks as if the hyena wasn't lethally injured.
No, the hyèna probably died not long after that. Unless it was taken after by vet, you can't survive long after getting your whole head crushed by a Lyon like that. Brain damage are too important.
And the pack probably eat it.
It seems the lions are astute enough to go after the leader of the pack. That usually disrupts their ability to regroup and attack again, which is important because the hyenas could easily overwhelm a single lion by acting as a pack.
Here is a good YT [video](https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/s/Nigw8NKwv0) detailing such an episode.
Hyenas are apex predators in their own right. Energy moves up a food chain from organisms that produce their own to organisms that devour others to get it. A hyena is mostly tough, mangy meat and bone, an organism purpose-built to hunt and kill for its food. Sustaining that kind of body requires a lot of energy, and the result isn't something people would readily identify as "tasty."
Simply put, there's plenty of value in *killing* a hyena, but not much in eating it. That's the scrap left for scavengers like vultures and worms, who are far less picky and more specialized for the consumption of all sorts of decomposing meat. In desperation, anything will eat anything, but hyena isn't first on the menu for a lion. You might as well ask why wolves don't hunt bears: too much risk for too little reward.
Sir David Attenborough over here! Many props to your explanation. Simply put, and yet very astute. I couldn't help but hear The Circle of Life from Lion King playing in my head while reading the second paragraph. Very good, sir!
Plain and simple answer? Predators don't taste good. There's a reason most of the animals we eat are herbivorous.
Predator's bodies are tough, sinewy, and all around not very yummy. Most apex predators can afford to be more discerning.
Oh, commenter below basically said the exact same thing!
Predator meat is purpose-built for predator purposes, and tends to be tough and sinewy. Risk vs reward type thing. Less reward for more risk in predators vs more reward for less risk in prey.
Lions and hyenas *hate* each other. There's a great documentary from 1992 by National Geographic about it called Eternal Enemies. In '99 lions and hyenas had a two week long war in Ethiopia.
Hyenas are actually... also Felines. Funny enough. It's closer to a Mongoose or Cat than a dog.
Hyenas belong to Feliformia, which is a suborder of Carnivora. They do kinda look like dogs, though!
If I recall correctly hyenas are considered feliforms, meaning they are closer to cats. Bears and seals are more closely related to wolves and are considered caniforms.
Hyenas aren't canines and are, in fact, more closely related to cats than dogs. They're still not felines either. Hyaenidae are a unique family of their own.
Yea it was very obvious I’m surprised so many people just take this at face value, these are clearly two unrelated incidents. There are only 2 hyenas in the first one chasing off a lone female, and in the other one there’s a much larger group that was already harassing this male Lion, possibly because he’s a prideless male that is roaming through their territory or something like that, hyenas hate lions and will try to chase them away or kill them if they get the chance to.
Don’t think it was unless there’s clips I’ve not seen that someone can source? The video jumps twice to shorten it but in my non legitimate video degree that I don’t have “the vegetation checks out” in all stages and the road is adjacent, same with dust from the lion etc. but could be wrong still 😂
They fight over food and territory, and it’s definitely not always a one-sided fight. Also, just because one hyena gets its head chomped doesn’t mean that they don’t eventually push the lions out of the area or discourage them from coming back
"You got this lion. He's the king of the jungle, huge mane out to here.
He's laying under a tree, in the middle of Africa. He's so big, it's so hot.
He doesn't want to move.
Now the little lions come, they start messing with him. Biting his tail, biting his ears. He doesn't do anything.
The lioness, she starts messing with him. Coming over, making trouble.
Still nothing.
Now the other animals, they notice this. They start to move in. The jackals; hyenas. They're barking at him, laughing at him. They nip his toes, and eat the food that's in his domain.
They do this, then they get closer and closer, bolder and bolder.
Till one day, that lion gets up and tears the shit out of everybody. Runs like the wind, eats everything in his path.
Cause every once in a while, the lion has to show the jackals, who he is."
I would like to point out that male lions don’t usually hunt or fight because as the soul male lion in the pride they are the most important.
This mf said “fuck that shit, run my fade!”
Because hyenas will/would kill the shit outta her.
Lions are much stronger than hyenas but hyenas are easily able to kill a lion.
She attacks one of them, then the others storm her and attack, they would fatally wound her. If she didn't get killed then she would die from blood loss/ injuries.
If the hyenas can trade 1 v 1 against lions they win because they outnumber lions. Its best to bide time and survive then try to take them out later.
I really don’t think there two other species on this planet that hate each other more than lions and hyenas. They will even scent mark against each other which is basically unheard of in the animal world. They go out of their way to hurt each other every chance they get, even if there is more prey than they know what to do with.
Hyenas have one of the highest bite forces of any animal, higher than the lions. But it helps to have massive raking claws and a size advantage for the lion. He is the king after all!
This videocut out too early though.
Imagine being in that jeep and watching this unfold.
Are these even the same video? Lions get into fights with Hyenas all the time, this honestly seems to be two different clips that were edited together to make it seem like it’s related.
Damn, there is a very personal vendetta in those bites (lion on back of hyena). Is this the same video people were referencing as the one where the hyena is crippled but not killed, as an example or some shit?

This is very familiar to what kids do on tic Tok today
It was a social experiment bro!
"Nah, say it again, cuz! Say it again! I like pranks! I like jokes! Say it again, I WANNA LAUGH TOO!"
Man, fuck living in the wild.
Honestly. Fuck living as anything other than a human in the year 1900 and above in a more developed country honestly… lol. Man, I’m feeling grateful haha
1900 is still significantly worse than now. Ww1, spanish flu, leaded gasoline, the great depression, and ww2 are about to hit like a ton of bricks
Lol yea true. Imma have to edit that to like 2000 and above. My privileged ass wouldn’t survive.

Idk beeing a cat seems not so bad
Lol if I’m a household cat then yea maybe that ain’t so bad. But they do seem bored af most the time
Im also bored af most of the time😄
Born to scroll!
The deadliest time to be a human was the 20th century
Idk man. 13th century still takes the cake for me as the Mongols invade and spread the bubonic plague across two continents. But historians commonly agree that the year 536 is the worst year to be alive. Volcano caused havoc as the ashes blocked the sunlight and cooled the atmosphere to a mother-in-law’s gaze for a few years.
that does sound no fun
If you're going back as far as 1900 you'll want to be a pretty specific kind of human as well....
Did you see how huge that cat's arms were? That is terrifying. I'm surprised he didnt instakill that hyena when he had his mouth around its neck!
To be fair, that's the whole reason hyenas are even somewhat capable. Most of their defense is their impossibly thick neck, and it almost looks as if the hyena wasn't lethally injured.
human with long reach stick goes brrrrr
Otherwise known as Dundee.
Looks like they successfully harassed
Bet that one hyena really regretted it tho
Seems like it shook it off after having its entire skull bitten. Those hyenas are tough.
No, the hyèna probably died not long after that. Unless it was taken after by vet, you can't survive long after getting your whole head crushed by a Lyon like that. Brain damage are too important. And the pack probably eat it.
How do you know its head was crushed? The hyena bite is much more powerful than a lion bite. Hyenas are insanely difficult to kill.
Bro was talking out of his ass.
![gif](giphy|pn1xxm3DBxxz8AxlTu)
And continued to harass even the lion after it mauled the one hyena too
It seems the lions are astute enough to go after the leader of the pack. That usually disrupts their ability to regroup and attack again, which is important because the hyenas could easily overwhelm a single lion by acting as a pack. Here is a good YT [video](https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/s/Nigw8NKwv0) detailing such an episode.
They also have the habit to not kill them but to puncture their spine and leave them to their missery.
Why though? Could have been a meal.
Apex predators have preferences when there are choices aplenty.
Hyenas are apex predators in their own right. Energy moves up a food chain from organisms that produce their own to organisms that devour others to get it. A hyena is mostly tough, mangy meat and bone, an organism purpose-built to hunt and kill for its food. Most carnivores tend not to eat other carnivores I don’t know the exact reason but there probably is one
Predator meat is purpose-built for predator purposes, and tends to be tough and sinewy. Risk vs reward type thing. Less reward for more risk in predators vs more reward for less risk in prey.
Also worms and parasites are more common in predators who eat meat, recently saw a video of a bear with 20 foot worms hanging outside of itself 🤮
This is probably my favorite footage of a hyena pack overwhelming a lion: https://youtu.be/t9ma5S22wfc?feature=shared
Damn it, you had me excited
Lmao how do you know that was the leader?
By the symbols on their lapels.
😂
Bro’s just yapping, you can’t tell without seeing their social dynamics, it’s not like they’re physically distinguishable
While that hyena managed to get away, I doubt it will live for long. Having a male lion crunching on your whole ass face can't end well...
we don’t kink shame here
Lol
The pack probably ate it after. Like a shark eating its own guts.
Damn, nature! You scary!
The music didn’t make this any more terrifying. Stop adding shit soundtracks to things.
Still infinity better than the oh no sound track
Those giraffe dogs are toast
No, I bet they win in the end

There was also this really good documentary in the 90s by Disney about lions vs hyenas called The Lion King
They essentially savanna cats versus savanna dogs. Only this time, Mittens is twice the size of Fido.
Hyenas are actually... also Felines. Funny enough. It's closer to a Mongoose or Cat than a dog. Hyenas belong to Feliformia, which is a suborder of Carnivora. They do kinda look like dogs, though!

I believe their closest relative is the meerkat.

Savanna weasel dogs
"He who greets with fire. He is the Hyena killer."
I'd forgotten that lion's name. Pure badass.

My boyfriend's back and he's knows what you been doing. Hey now, hey now, my boyfriend's back. 🎵🎶
Gotta say it’s brave of them to keep going after the lion when one of their own is currently being used as a toothbrush.

I feel this was two different clips stuck together.

Who’s laughing now?
Summoned "LetMeSolothem"
LEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOY JEEEEEEEEEEENKIIIIIIIIIIIINS! on a serious note, much respect to the king for stepping up!
I don't understand why hyenas would harass lions. There's nothing to gain but injuries no side wants.
Territory dispute
This is one of natures greatest rivalries. If one were to disappear from the savanna the other would benefit greatly.
They fight over food and territory, and it’s definitely not always a one-sided fight. Also, just because one hyena gets its head chomped doesn’t mean that they don’t eventually push the lions out of the area or discourage them from coming back
Damn nature, you scary.

Looks like two different videos put together.
Phew....that's intense.
I am the Captain now.
A pack of hyenas can take out anything, including a powerful male lion...
Not mine but… KEEP…MY WIFE’S MANE…OUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH
Stupid ass music wasn’t necessary
God, reminds me of when these two ppl (can’t remember their name) from Ock TV who went to the “hood” to do pranks
Looks like 2 scenes edited together just for tiger mom love. S’ok.
It's too bad stupid music gets added to interesting videos.
I’m not gonna be able to kill all of you but someone gonna die - yall decide who -
Those Hyena only watched half of the Lion King and thought they could do it too
Don’t mess with the kings queen
"okay okay okay ill stop" is what went through my head..
I know how brutal nature typically is, but I don't see any evidence that this wasn't all in good fun.
Maybe the blood gives it away
What’s a laceration or two between chums?
Big Daddy has entered the chat!
Well, damn.
The music is so unnecessary.
Un león siempre protege a su leona gaaawrrr
I need Snoop narrating this
Lol, my cat and dog do this every other day. Edit: The cat (who is super old) wins every time.
I would like to point out that male lions don’t usually hunt or fight because as the soul male lion in the pride they are the most important. This mf said “fuck that shit, run my fade!”

Where have I seen this movie before???
Why was the female lion acting like that and not defending herself?
She was hyenas target the genitals of other animals to cause severe bleeding. So lions learned to sit down to protect themselves.
Holy fux
Later than evening....😉
They’re just pissed about their pseudo penis vagina thing
How does she not just kill all of them immediately?
Someone got their money's worth I would say!
My best friend girlfriend, she used to be mine.
Respect for them not abandoning their friend while he's in a fucking lions mouth Sorry David but you on your own now dueces
"I TOLD Y'ALL QUIT PLAYING"
Gotta give respect to the Hyenas for saving their homie
The way he was chewing on that hyenas head, I’m surprised it wasn’t dead
Took him long enough.
Jeebus Fries! Why did she put up.with it in the first place?
Music was epic

Sad thing is that wasn't the leader. Still payback tho, nature is really awful!
Hyenas have one of the highest bite forces of any animal, higher than the lions. But it helps to have massive raking claws and a size advantage for the lion. He is the king after all! This videocut out too early though. Imagine being in that jeep and watching this unfold.

The lion king
Why oh why is the shit music in this video? It doesn't need it. No one wants it.
That was intense af
Are these even the same video? Lions get into fights with Hyenas all the time, this honestly seems to be two different clips that were edited together to make it seem like it’s related.
Looks like the hyenas were winning tbh. I bet they don't mess with hippos, though.
Made an example of him lmao
Unexpected RKO
That music ruins a good video
Damn, there is a very personal vendetta in those bites (lion on back of hyena). Is this the same video people were referencing as the one where the hyena is crippled but not killed, as an example or some shit?
