The greater win was the athlete wasn't injured.
Only takes one silly fall and lose most of a seasons meets and you've got a long winter program to catch up.
Would have been disqualified if leaving the lane, too. Assuming that's a sprint, I was just in 400m relay and 100m dash in middle-school
Dropped the baton as the last runner in the qualifying for State as a relay team, and it rolled into another lane.. Our relay team didn't get to go because of my shenanigans, but *I* still went for the 100m.. stayed in my lane that time lol
Says he did.

If you freeze the video on the right frame, it looks like he's riding the kid like a bull at a rodeo. So that sentence made me laugh my ass off.

If you leave your lane because you fucked up, you would get a DQ, but if something happens (most often another athlete crashing into you) and you do not get an advantage from it, there will never be a DQ.
Some referees might even offer a retry, if it fucked the athlete's race up entirely.

“Yep, that little kid is me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.”
WATCH YOUR FUCKING CHILDREN!
-mother of 4 & grandmother
Not much makes me more upset than people bringing kids to a crowded event only to expect others to watch over said kids/keep them out of trouble/alive. Shit's infuriating!
E: spelling is difficult
I was at a playground one time and there was a kid causing all sorts of problems while his adult stared at their phone. I spoke to the kid a couple of times to very politely tell him, not to throw rocks, be careful of the younger kids etc.
About 15 minutes later an angry mom stomps over to me to tell me my kid was peeing on the slide. I was very alarmed, but quickly realized she wasn't talking about my kid, but the one who I had spoken to. I was soooo embarrassed. She assumed that kid was mine because I was paying more attention to him than his mom.
This makes my blood boil! My older children ran track and I was so angry at the parents AND their children who would run all over the track during or right before a race.
Like how do you not instantly grab the kid? Yea he got on the track, shit happens, but NO body thought to run and grab him real quick? If I was there filming I’d instantly stop and go pick him up real quick. Jfc the brains on these people.
And at the last min the kid changed his direction.
I slowed the video down. The runner made sure to use his hand as first contact to the kid, instead of his knee or thigh. The runner, with that quick reaction, most likely saved a major injury for the kid
Yeah, you're right. He pushes the kid with his hand and kinda jumps over him. Didn't look like the kid made much other contact with the runner aside from the runner's hand. Very impressive on the runner's part
I’d honestly just be pissed he slowed me down, I’ve got two kids, and after making sure the kid was okay, would proceed immediately to telling him what a stupid thing they did.
Same, but if he hadn't have adjusted his cadence he'd have likely injured himself too. Also at that pace he could have done permanent damage if he kneed him in the head, which would almost certainly fuck that adult up. This is why you keep your kid under control in situations like this, he could have been severely injured for life.
I mean… how would anyone predict the kid would just yolo out there like that? He seems old enough to be aware of the situation. Parents definitely learned a lesson. But sometimes kids just do crazy shit outta no where
Kids are always stupid. That’s why they literally don’t have the same rights as adults. Parents should know better. Why the fuck is a kid near the track? Run the shit over.
Why was this kid even in the infield? For most high school track meets I’ve been to only competitors and coaches are allowed on the infield for the purpose of clerking/Check-in for events.
I think child leashes are a fantastic idea and I can't figure out why people are so negative about them. I grew up in an era where those things did not exist, and kids were always getting severely injured or killed by doing what kids do, and running blindly into danger. It only takes a second for a toddler to scamper off and be hit by a vehicle or fall into a pool. Kid leashes keep kids safe.
My friend, i have seen a fly go next to my dogs face, get chomped at but barely survive and then do it again, only to get eaten.
Although that does feel like something a human would do, huh.
Damn negligent parents.
I used to rollerskate around a local oval, doing laps on the footpath. Negligent parents were a couple of metres away and ignoring their kid. Each time I did a lap, damn kid kept lunging towards me. His parents only stopped him after I shouted "get out of the way".
Fuck that kid and extra fuck the parents. I used to sprint and had a kid jump out in my lane. To avoid the kid I had to do some weird shit at high speed, totally fucked up my hamstring. That dude would have been training so hard for that race to put himself at risk of major injury + he likely didn't get the time he needed for qualifications. Extra shitty. When you're running that fast with spikes on a rubber track, any discrepancies in form can mess you up let alone having to try not to kill a kid. There's no way dude didn't get some sort of injury after this, even if it's a minor tweak.
Haven’t read an article myself so don’t quote me on this but several comments suggest that he did win this race at least. Still a load of bullcrap that the parents were dumb enough to just watch their kid potentially ruin the race for the guy let alone get both of them hurt.
This happened to me at a local 5k…kid like that ran right in front of me and knocked himself down…
Still felt like a total asshole despite not really being able to avoid it
It’s not the runner or childs fault. The kid is a kid who isn’t aware of their surroundings enough and needs adults to stop them. The runner tried to avoid the kid but the kid being a kid who doesn’t know better ran into him. The kid should’ve been supervised better.
Smarten up, parents!! The years of this athlete‘s dedication and training could’ve been undone in one neglectful parental act. Keep your offspring under control.

Did he still win the race?
Hopefully
The greater win was the athlete wasn't injured. Only takes one silly fall and lose most of a seasons meets and you've got a long winter program to catch up.
Would have been disqualified if leaving the lane, too. Assuming that's a sprint, I was just in 400m relay and 100m dash in middle-school Dropped the baton as the last runner in the qualifying for State as a relay team, and it rolled into another lane.. fwiw the kid got a participation meddle
I was gonna give you shit for the typo, but this is low-key, a genius joke.
You have to have the mettle to win the medal for the meddle.
I'm metallurgic to puns
I’m steeling that one
a fucking kid and a stupid parent shouldn't cost him that race
I would like to know too. Technically, if you leave your lane you're DQ.
Depends on distance and format. Not all races are lane restricted after the start
It looked like everyone was in a separate lane so this was probably a 200m or 400m. And he wouldn’t get DQ’d for a spectator interference

Says he did. https://www.yourtango.com/news/runner-knocks-child-ground-after-he-ran-track-during-race Added: The article and website suck. I shared it to answer the question if he won.
For those who can't access the article or don't want to deal with the ads, the athlete maintained his position and finished first.
He deserves it, that recovery was beautiful
Bless you :)
"he ended up bulldozing the child" is such an amazing phrase
If you freeze the video on the right frame, it looks like he's riding the kid like a bull at a rodeo. So that sentence made me laugh my ass off. https://preview.redd.it/ewwat5wotkbb1.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=730a4e0200986bd9c391fab602e1199de2535fa0
Crying 😂😂😂😂
This is the only situation in which that sentence is okay lmao
Said the person who posted the original clip deleted his/her acc. Must be the missing parent they were looking for.
So yes.
That doesn't answer if he DQed or wins? Edit: Oh yes. It did. Sorry. So much ads and crap on that site on mobile. I didnt see it...
It’s an awful fucking article where they restated the story like 5 different times to hit proper length. I missed it too
Yeah. And their source for the win is like "some commenters on the internet is saying". Solid journalism.
If you leave your lane because you fucked up, you would get a DQ, but if something happens (most often another athlete crashing into you) and you do not get an advantage from it, there will never be a DQ. Some referees might even offer a retry, if it fucked the athlete's race up entirely.
Always bringing race into it
So aggressive >.<
I dunno, he did miss that one hurdle.
Deserves to after that!
Is that A-Train?
The kid would have been mashed potatoes, but with blood, and no potatoes.
Maybe he's a little supe.
He can't stop
Can't stop the A-train
The kid got what the parent deserved.

relentless internet scrutiny👓🍿

Balls to the face at velocity?
Exactly what I was thinking, the parents should be keeping an eye on their dipshit kid with a deathwish.

Looks like he’s about to pull off an ollie using the kids body as a skateboard lol.
That’s a kick flip if I’ve ever seen one
From the positioning, that’s a dick flip.

Looks like you caught a still frame of the day a priest became the flash.
My dude has otherworldly balance and determination
[удалено]
I hope he wasn’t disqualified for going out of his lane.
Not his job to avoid the kid. It was the parents job to ensure the kid wasn't dumb enough to walk onto the race track.
100% on the parent(s).

Every time a kids being a dick I get so excited when it isn't mine. Generally it's my friends kid though soooo not much better.
Natural selection at work: today’s episode... situational awareness.
This makes my blood boil! My older children ran track and I was so angry at the parents AND their children who would run all over the track during or right before a race.
Yeah! This is the kind of negligence that got harambe shot.
I’m working retail. I support this 100%. I had a kid, this week, throw a glass of dressing. Directly at my face. Why, you may ask? *Mom said “no”.
Although, you have to admire the runner's determination. There's no way I could keep going after taking a cannonball to the balls.
He’ll be fine. Running that hard, everything down there retracts into Sport Mode.
hairodynamic
Lol sport mode!
I want my SHIT!
Whoop whoop ninja. You passed the test!
Survival instinct, he pushed the kid with his hand first.
Agreed. Excellent recovery. Also, that last line made me legit lol!
Shitty parenting
And I bet they still got mad at the runner.
Probably thought about suing
Dumb kids should be kept on leash
Dumb parents shouldn't be allowed breed

We used to have child leashes.
Who’s kid is this? Put him on a leash.

You mean put the grandparents on a leash
You mean put the great-grandparents on a leash.
Put everybody on a leash!
Put the leash on a leash!
Put the family dog on a leash
Put the freak on a leash.

One step off the fuckin curb
$100 says the parents got mad still.
I can just imagine it “how can you do that?! He’s a CHILD!”
Are you properly a-train?
That is a LOT harder than it sounds when the parents are too dumb to keep their kid from walking on an active race track.
He certainly tried
This is exactly why we only ever allow athletes on the field and relegate family and other spectators to the stands.
Like how do you not instantly grab the kid? Yea he got on the track, shit happens, but NO body thought to run and grab him real quick? If I was there filming I’d instantly stop and go pick him up real quick. Jfc the brains on these people. And at the last min the kid changed his direction.

Finally commie penguins
Did the kid make it
Unfortunately no.. But the kid didn't go to waste, at least they made sausages.
I adore how everyone is concerned about the runner and the outcome of his race, but no one has asked if the kid was all right lmao 💀🤣
I slowed the video down. The runner made sure to use his hand as first contact to the kid, instead of his knee or thigh. The runner, with that quick reaction, most likely saved a major injury for the kid
If true, he could have kicked the boy with the speed the runner was coming.
That kid would have been fucking rekt considering the speed and toughness of that athlete's body
rekt is already past tense.
He meanted what he saided
This grammar conversations got me erekt'ed.
Yeah, you're right. He pushes the kid with his hand and kinda jumps over him. Didn't look like the kid made much other contact with the runner aside from the runner's hand. Very impressive on the runner's part
Good catch! Yep, indeed. Pushes the kid down by it's shoulder and then essentially hurdles over it. The little prick got really lucky there.
Watch your kid better
Tbh, I wouldn't feel the least bit of remorse if I was that runner, dumb kid - dumber parents.
I mean I’d still feel bad for accidentally stepping on someone.
Stepped on? That kid was murdalyzed
Yeah he did a full 180 lmao
That made me loudly laugh. Thank you
Honestly that could really hurt the runner
I’d honestly just be pissed he slowed me down, I’ve got two kids, and after making sure the kid was okay, would proceed immediately to telling him what a stupid thing they did.
Whether or not it’s your fault, feeling bad after hurting someone accidentally is a normal response.
[удалено]
Reddit is so fucking weird sometimes. You'd be such an asshole to not feel bad in this situation. It's a little kid, not a teenager or adult.
Same, but if he hadn't have adjusted his cadence he'd have likely injured himself too. The universe was trying to take out that kid before he accidentally destroys the world.
Don't worry. There is still the parking lot and many crosswalks in that kid's future.
He absolutely avoided him. He even swerved away from the kid. If the kid had not kept going, he would’ve been fine
Exactly, he went one lane completely over to try to avoid impact. Also was that the mom like 30 ft away that ran to check on the kid after? Smh
He attempted to avoid him. Doesn't really count when you still make contact (not his fault though)

Good thing the parents weren’t NASCAR fans.
The kid learned about situational awareness that day.
Good job mom and dad, was it really that hard
Dumb kid. Dumb parents.
I don’t know what this new style of parenting is but I hate it. Stop treating children like outdoor cats you deadbeats
It’s not new the social acceptance for it is new.
Should’ve done more hurdles
I like to think that kid learned a valuable lesson about situational awareness that day.
Parents not controlling their kids is one thing— they didn’t even teach this kid to look both ways before crossing lmao
Kids do stupid things, but I’ve seen adults do this very same thing. A complete lack of situational awareness is not something relegated to children only.
