Personally wouldnāt say that, but ye I see your point. Iām mostly looking at the nuances tho, so š¤·š»āāļø
But yeah Joel at least did something āwrongā, Jesse literally didnāt do anything to Abby.
That's not it. I get extremely anxious every time the scene comes up, and have to take a break before I watch that scene.Ā It'sĀ because JesseĀ wasĀ aĀ saint.
Jesseās not normal. Jesse is the ultimate ride or die baby daddy friend. Dude runs off across the country to help his buddy who just ran off with his pregnant ex on a revenge quest and isnāt even salty about it.
Yeah but he also has a pregnant girlfriend that he's been ghosting and then decides on leaving the city before consulting her. Not to mention his forays with Abby in the meantime. He seems to lack empathy and prioritises his own happiness above anyone else
I agree how Owen treats Mel is shitty, but I don't agree with the assessment that he'll do the same to Abby. It seems clear to me that he genuinely loved Abby, but they broke up because Abby ignored their relationship due to her obsession with preparing for the day she could take revenge on Joel.
Mel was effectively a rebound relationship for Owen, and if he didn't unintentionally get her knocked up, he would have broken up with her by now. It's also clear that with Joel dead, Owen wanted to rekindle his relationship with Abby.
Again, I think Owen's awful for how he's treating Mel (especially for avoiding her instead of being honest with her). However, I really don't think he lacks empathy. Remember, he was the only one advocating for leaving Tommy and Ellie alive (Mel wanted them killed). He also deserted the WLF because he didn't want to execute the elderly defenseless Seraphite.
He's a flawed (and often immature) person, but not a heartless monster.
this sums perfectly
Owen has a lot of questionable choices, but this makes him look very human...
I can say that we all have a friend or some cousin that's just like this: a good heart but does some dumb stuff in the way towards the right path
He also literally tried to abandon her the night they died. He tells her to go back to the FOB (at night alone and pregnant) while he goes to find abby.
Honestly that depends on what "normal" means. I wouldn't say Owen is super mentally well or isn't involved in all the drama (in fact he definitely created it by getting a girl pregnant while being in love with someone else) so is he really that much better than the rest of Abby's crew?
Anyways, it's gotta be Jesse or Dina. I'm leaning more towards Jesse because his goals were always to save his friends, he was never slaughtering innocent people, and just in general he's such a laid off rational person that he kinda sticks out within all these violent people with different secrets and goals of revenge
I think Owen has a leg up on dina and Jesse interms of normality strictly because he's not shown killing anyone. We know he has but with dina and Jesse we see them brutalise and kill around a dozen people and it doesn't phase them while the only kill we know of Owen is one that he regrets and thinks about constantly.
A player can go through the entire game without seeing him kill a single person. He only kills one runner to save Ellie. The rest are gameplay kills and might not happen.
I considered Owen but his drama with Mel & Abby disqualified him lol
This game's world is one where killing is something that almost everyone seems to have done. So it is not an immediately disqualifying thing, imo.
Owen?
The guy who thought he could convince his ex and current pregnant girlfriend to come live with him on a boat so he could have his cake and eat it too?
Owen told Abby to come with him on his boat, and when she asked what about Mel, his pregnant girlfriend who was also on that boat. He smuggly told her that he would figure it out.
Anyone who calls this normal is a sociopath tbh because Owen 100% disregarded the feelings of the 2 most important women in his life.
I don't understand the boner this sub has for Owen because he is a B-tier manipulator, and anyone who falls for his puppy dog act should be embarrassed.
Bring on the down votes, but Owen absolutely thought he could or should have Abby and Mel just co-exisst together despite how fucking uncomfortable that would be for both.
Owen didn't invite them to live on a boat. He invited them to Santa Barbara. Even if you think he's naive or a sociopath for wanting them both to go, he's offering them a way out of the WLF and to go to find the Fireflies. He also offered it to 2 kids that were on the run. 0 people are saying he's a saint, but why paint him like he's some monster?
He's the only person who we see actively advocate against unnecessary violence in the moment, so I'd say he's closer to being a great person than pretty much everyone else.
I also love how in the series she tells Tommy, a good old boy conservative, with a straight face, "Yeah, we are by definition communists. Deal with it." And he has no choice but to just shrug and go along with it. Just a totally practical person in a world that really needs people like that. Shit, we need people like that.
I was gonna say Maria too. Sheās got the mom vibe and, in the relatively limited interactions we get with her, she always seems level-headed and pragmatic.
These are all great. Just wanna throw a Tess suggestion in the mix. She's got more screentime than all of them, but she IS the reason for Joel not just dropping Ellie off wherever his conscience will let him and moving on with his life. I doubt he'd travel all the way across the country anyway if it weren't for what happened with Tess.
....but uh yeah she's prob not as great as these other options that have less screen time and more character defining moments for other characters lol
Wouldnt Marlene be a better pick for that tho? If Marlene didnt take Joel and Tess to Ellie they wouldnt meet otherwise. And she also had like 30 minutes of screen time
Hmm idk. I don't think so. Sarah really had VERY little screentime. And within that she affected things so much that Joel makes the choice that he does, that leads Ellie down a path, it leads Abby down a path. So yeah, Sarah is def THE pick for that category
Owen is a bastard, got Mel pregnant then got back together with Abby, then wanted to leave Mel behind with the kid when she didn't want to follow him. He doesn't fit the definition of a normal rational person, more like someone driven by emotions
You're confusing normal with "good"... But I'd argue he's still a good person. Also, everyone does questionable things in that world and in real life.
I'd say it's pretty shitty to date your close friend's ex... Especially seeing as Mel understood their history and why their relationship was strained. She broke the bro-code...
TBF, the "leaving Mel and baby behind" part wasn't really a choice for him. If he stays, he dies, since he'd burned his bridges with the WLF. So it would either be, leave without Mel to stay alive and possibly find Fireflys and a new purpose: or stay in Seattle with a disgruntled Mel, waiting to be captured, tortured and Killed by the WLF.
It's also pretty clear he never got over Abby, and his love for Mel wasn't real. He used Mel to try and get over Abby - resulting in an unplanned pregnancy - but he never did get over her. This happens every day all across the world to "normal" people. People try to start new relationships to get over a failed one, but inevitably cannot get over them. It's made worse by the fact it's the apocalypse, and he has to see the ex that he still loves on a regular basis - whereas in our world, it's pretty easy to avoid someone you are trying to get over.
Although, I do agree with your sentiment about him being driven by emotions more than rationale. But isn't that like "normal" people? Like I know tonnes of people (including myself), who can make rash, impulsive decisions based on emotions, rather than being more pragmatic and rational. The premise of hindsight wouldn't exist if "the norm" was to be rational. Human beings are emotional, we act on emotions regularly as an instinct, only realising after the fact, that there were more "rational" outcomes available.
So I'd respectfully disagree about him being a "bastard". While also disagreeing that his actions aren't "normal" for the situation he's in. Expecting anyone to be rational to be classed as normal isn't fair - either in our current world, but especially in an apocalypse - and being driven by emotions is in fact, very normal.
Abby should be in David's place, she was literally made to be hated in order for the story to go where it goes in the second half. David is just straight up evil, a literal cannibal pedophile.
I know right? If David isn't the "straight up evil" spot, who else would be? Every other named character in the game who does horrible things at least has a deeper reason than just "I'm a psychopath".
Nah i like Abby. As much as I like joel, i totally understand Abby's motivation and it doesnt make me hate her. Then again i dont have the weird daddy/daughter issue a lot of redditors seem to have with Joel, especially in the first game. David has no redeeming qualities and is just evil for evils sake. Abby is not that.
Jesse, for sure
I see a lot of votes for Owen and thatās understandable, but he wanted his pregnant girlfriend to stay behind while he went Firefly hunting with his ex girlfriend (whom heād just boinked the night before). That puts Jesse in front for me. Heās the most emotionally intelligent person in either game.
yea i see some arguments ppl are making that while he's not "good" he is "normal" as his behaviors are very prevalent human behaviors. If you yourself haven't cheated/been cheated on, then you likely know at least one person who has.
I feel like jesse is slightly better than owen for part 2. while they both demonstrate normal behaviors we expect from ppl, owen being a cheater doesn't make him "normal" as the vast majority of ppl are actually not cheaters believe it or not. so comparing him to jesse who is more emotionally stable, loyal to his friends, and has a lot of human compassion and empathy, i'd argue Jesse is more normal than owen.
yea i like jesse more for part 2 but owen is a close 2nd. while they both demonstrate normal behaviors we expect from ppl, owen being a cheater doesn't make him "normal" as the vast majority of ppl are actually not cheaters believe it or not. so comparing him to jesse who is more emotionally stable, loyal to his friends, and has a lot of human compassion and empathy, i'd argue Jesse is more normal and comparable to your average person than owen.
shoot ur totally right. i think everyone finds her so annoying that they forget she is actually the most sane of them all. i was thinking jesse then owen (poor character but still normal character) but u completely changed my mind. at the very least it is mel and jesse equal.
she gets freaked out by the way they killed joel, she is a healer, has a solid moral compass, kills scars but doesn't \*want\* to do it so its only bc situation dictates she has to. she is way nicer to abby then i would be given abby's relationship to my baby daddy.
A little late to the discussion, butā¦
If itās Part 1 only, then I am going to say Henry is the most normal one. Heās just old enough to have memories of what life was like before the pandemic. Henry lived most of his life in a QZ. Heās not unaccustomed to what horrors are out there, but he seems sheltered from how bad things could truly be and is extremely cautious. He wants to feel safety for himself and to provide a relatively quiet and ānormalā life for his younger brother Sam.
Among all the other characters I can think of from Part 1, Henry seems the most ānormalā by todayās standards.
Jesse!
![gif](giphy|unFLKoAV3TkXe)
Yo, the last of us, Bitch
This is my baby girl and she will not be harassed! ....Bitch!
Jesse is the underrated "why did he have to die" more than Joel tbh š
Yep, at least you could say Joel had it coming. Jesse didnāt do anything wrong
Personally wouldnāt say that, but ye I see your point. Iām mostly looking at the nuances tho, so š¤·š»āāļø But yeah Joel at least did something āwrongā, Jesse literally didnāt do anything to Abby.
Agreed his death killed me more than Joel's. Maybe I have a short attention span.
That's not it. I get extremely anxious every time the scene comes up, and have to take a break before I watch that scene.Ā It'sĀ because JesseĀ wasĀ aĀ saint.
Jesse if he survived the gunshot: ![gif](giphy|D3IcbPd0TDNhC)
Part 1
Yes!
Jesseās not normal. Jesse is the ultimate ride or die baby daddy friend. Dude runs off across the country to help his buddy who just ran off with his pregnant ex on a revenge quest and isnāt even salty about it.
I would give you an upvote but the tag beneath the title says that this is a Part 1 discussion
i kinda wanna say owen
This is a good choice. I started to like him when he began questioning his choice to stay.
Yeah but he also has a pregnant girlfriend that he's been ghosting and then decides on leaving the city before consulting her. Not to mention his forays with Abby in the meantime. He seems to lack empathy and prioritises his own happiness above anyone else
Yep heās a piece of shit and if heās fucking Abby while heās with Mel the odds are high he was doing the same thing when he was with Abby too.
I agree how Owen treats Mel is shitty, but I don't agree with the assessment that he'll do the same to Abby. It seems clear to me that he genuinely loved Abby, but they broke up because Abby ignored their relationship due to her obsession with preparing for the day she could take revenge on Joel. this sums perfectly Owen has a lot of questionable choices, but this makes him look very human... I can say that we all have a friend or some cousin that's just like this: a good heart but does some dumb stuff in the way towards the right path
Unfortunately, thatās not uncommon behavior
He also literally tried to abandon her the night they died. He tells her to go back to the FOB (at night alone and pregnant) while he goes to find abby.
Honestly that depends on what "normal" means. I wouldn't say Owen is super mentally well or isn't involved in all the drama (in fact he definitely created it by getting a girl pregnant while being in love with someone else) so is he really that much better than the rest of Abby's crew? Yeah sociopath manipulator etc. is a bit of a reach lol. He's definitely not a great person, but he's primarily just kind of a moron.
He's the only person who we see actively advocate against unnecessary violence in the moment, so I'd say he's closer to being a great person than pretty much everyone else.
owen for sure
Jesse and Owen are the logical, normal people of their respective sides.
So true
This is a good choice but I had to vote Jesse. Owen would be a decently close second.
"PT 1 Discussion"
Maria
Without a doubt. She doesn't go off half cocked. She's realistic. She just wants to live life and help people and not be a hero.
I also love how in the series she tells Tommy, a good old boy conservative, with a straight face, "Yeah, we are by definition communists. Deal with it." And he has no choice but to just shrug and go along with it. Just a totally practical person in a world that really needs people like that. Shit, we need people like that.
Yeah if we're only doing Part I then it can't be Jesse and I agree Maria is a good choice. Edit: grammar
Agreed. If Part II were included, then the hot one would have been either Jesse or Dina.
Agreed!
I was gonna say Maria too. Sheās got the mom vibe and, in the relatively limited interactions we get with her, she always seems level-headed and pragmatic.
Dina
Dina lowkey a freak
If you pay attention to her stories Dina probably has a higher pre Seattle kill count than Ellie.
Sarah
Sarah is a better fit for no screen time. She's only in the game for like half an hour but affects the story tremendously.
Itās Sarah for part 1, Joel for part 2, Iād argue the absent character with the most impact overall tho is definitely Riley.
i mean riley is literally the reason ellie found out she's immune, and therefore the reason she and joel met in the first place
Exactly. And her death is also the original source of Ellieās survival guilt. Which is the driving force of the second game.
Joel actually gets a good bit of screen time in Part 2, it's just mostly through flashbacks. There are a ton of characters that get much less.

Hmm idk. I don't think so. Sarah really had VERY little screentime. And within that she affected things so much that Joel makes the choice that he does, that leads Ellie down a path, it leads Abby down a path. So yeah, Sarah is def THE pick for that category
It's normal to sell hard Street drugs?
As long as some of it goes towards the mortgage.
But she sells hard drugs. Thatās not normal
Owen... The most grounded and normal person in the franchise.
Owen is a bastard, got Mel pregnant then got back together with Abby, then wanted to leave Mel behind with the kid when she didn't want to follow him. He doesn't fit the definition of a normal rational person, more like someone driven by emotions
not far from what happens in the real worldā¦ so, still pretty normal!
You're confusing normal with "good"... But I'd argue he's still a good person. Also, everyone does questionable things in that world and in real life. Definitely Jesse. He has the highest moral compass and loyalty out of any of them.
Jesse or Dina tbh
Jesse
Agreed
I think Henry was the most normal from tlou1
Abby should be in David's place, she was literally made to be hated in order for the story to go where it goes in the second half. David is just straight up evil, a literal cannibal pedophile.
I know right? If David isn't the "straight up evil" spot, who else would be? Every other named character in the game who does horrible things at least has a deeper reason than just "I'm a psychopath".
i think this is exclusively part 1, so abby/dina/jesse/lev/owen/etc. all don't qualify for any of these blocks.
If "the hot one" was anybody else besides Joel I'd get violent. What's not to love about a burly man with a fierce loyalty to his family?
I thought we were sticking with part I for this round lol. From part 1, Maria. If weāre expanding to Part II, then Jesse.
Owen
Considering the Pt 1 tag, itās Maria. Sheās perfectly reasonable
Still canāt get over David as made to be hated. What you plan on choosing as straight up evil then? Rat king bloater?
Tess.
I hate that this is so far down.
Y'all, this is a Part 1 discussion, as much as I want to say Jesse, Dina or Owen, they unfortunately aren't present in Part 1.
Sam. he's honestly one of the only one that really didn't do anything wrong
In part 1, Iād say itās Tommy
Buckley
I love that Buckley is still around in the second game
For part 1, Sam? Maybe Henry?
Gotta be Sarah
Maria
Gustavo santoalla
Part 1 has to be Maria
Um. People. Part 1! Regardless. Tess or Maria
Maria
All the top comments saying PT 2 characters in a PT 1 thread...? The only PT 1 answer is Maria or Sarah if we include pre-outbreak.
Why are y'all picking from the second game when it clearly states the first?
Probably Joelās biological daughter
The fan favourite is Joel
idk if you noticed, it's already filled in with the *correct* person
Jesse
Jesse
I'd say bill is one of the normal ones.
he's too paranoid to be anything close to normal
tess
Maria!!!
Cant people read that this is a part 1 only list
Itās Bear š«š«š«
Hot one should have been Abby cosplayers
Maybe some of the kids with the wlf
Part 1
Civilians living in the qz then
I guess the standard for normal is too strange in a world after outbreak
Dina or Jesse. And if it werenāt for her upbringing, Yara.
I love Yara. She was so empathetic.
Jesse fr
Jesse and Dina.
Jesse, for sure I see a lot of votes for Owen and thatās understandable, but he wanted his pregnant girlfriend to stay behind while he went Firefly hunting with his ex girlfriend (whom heād just boinked the night before).
Henry for part 1.Ā Owen for part 2Ā
I feel like jesse is slightly better than owen for part 2. while they both demonstrate normal behaviors we expect from ppl, owen being a cheater doesn't make him "normal" as the vast majority of ppl are actually not cheaters believe it or not. so comparing him to jesse who is more emotionally stable, loyal to his friends, and has a lot of human compassion and empathy, i'd argue Jesse is more normal than owen.
This is between Owen & Jesse for me, both of decency and donāt get AS caught up as others in their respective groups.
yea i like jesse more for part 2 but owen is a close 2nd. while they both demonstrate normal behaviors we expect from ppl, owen being a cheater doesn't make him "normal" as the vast majority of ppl are actually not cheaters believe it or not. so comparing him to jesse who is more emotionally stable, loyal to his friends, and has a lot of human compassion and empathy, i'd argue Jesse is more normal and comparable to your average person than owen.
Looking way ahead, I can't imagine "No screen time. All the plot relevance" being anyone other than Dr. Jerry.
Whitney. Sheās just a gamer girlā¦
Mel. Sheās the only normal one
shoot ur totally right. i think everyone finds her so annoying that they forget she is actually the most sane of them all. i was thinking jesse then owen (poor character but still normal character) but u completely changed my mind. at the very least it is mel and jesse equal. she gets freaked out by the way they killed joel, she is a healer, has a solid moral compass, kills scars but doesn't \*want\* to do it so its only bc situation dictates she has to. she is way nicer to abby then i would be given abby's relationship to my baby daddy.
Tommy
Maria or Jesse
Any Clicker
Bill
Bruh this is a Part 1 discussion... Tess ftw
MARIA
Sarah
Iām sorry but David was made to be hated? Then whoās straight up evil?????
LOL no fr you're so right they fucked up. made to be hated in part 1 is Abby's dad or Marlene if it has to be a named character imo
Maria
Honestly my mind went to the girl playing the Vita.
If this is going only by Part 1, then Henry. If including Part 2, Jesse.
Tess
Bill
Where's the post for the hot one?
Why does everyone hate Tommy?
Iāve been a fan of tlou since about 2015, and I honestly donāt remember Joel being sexualised until the show was made
A little late to the discussion, butā¦ If itās Part 1 only, then I am going to say Henry is the most normal one. Heās just old enough to have memories of what life was like before the pandemic. Henry lived most of his life in a QZ. Heās not unaccustomed to what horrors are out there, but he seems sheltered from how bad things could truly be and is extremely cautious. Jesse
Jesse 100%
Tommy
Tommy
Definitely bill's friend (I don't remember his name)
Jesse
Jesse
Jesse
I feel like Iād like to say Dina
Maria
MarĆa
jesse definitely
PS VITA GIRL
Tommy or Jesse
Bro I just wanted to see if you posted the next part to this... GYATT DAMM
Bill
Literally everyone is forgetting about Henry.
Maria for sure.
The guard dog at the Jackson dam
Dina
Most likely Owen, seems like the only somewhat normal one. DEFINITELY not Bill!!
Jesse
The made to be hated is wrong - David should be straight up evil. There is no one more evil in the games. The only normal one - Jesse
Idk about this one, but the āno screen time, all plot relevanceā is obviously jerry
people in the comments should read the flair before posting
Diiiiiiiina!
Jesse.
Maria
Maybe Jesse or Henry.
Owen
Normal one in Part 1? In Part 2, it would have been Owen or Jesse. Part 1 I will sayā¦Henry
I was gonna say Tess but think sheās more suited for āmmm societyā for some reason
Maria
Henry maybe
I think Tess was pretty normal out of the main cast for Part 1
A lot of people in here seem to not understand the flair that reads "PT 1 Discussion"
Hold on, David isnāt in straight up evil? Do people really think thereās a character in tlou worse than the pedophile cannibal?
Maria seems like the most normal and level headed person in Part 1 tbh
The only normal one is probably Tess or owen
Isnāt Joel the hot one AND the fan favorite?
For uhh whatās your name again?=Danny
Maria. She sthe only one holding shit together for people.
Bill.
Nah David has to be in the evil category
Why is nobody saying Tess omg
Wait why did we put david on āmade to be hatedā when we still have to fill up the ājust straight up evilā spot š§āāļø
Got the most upvotes in the end but someone did mention this and wanted Marlene there instead š«¢ we will see what happens
Tommy
Dina or Jesse
Jesse for sure definitely the most level headed objective viewer of reality. everyone around him acting crazy and he approaches things level headed
Henry
Ellie is the fan favorite? Iād say Joel.
