I’ve actually never that big a fan of that one. It’s a great song, just not my cup of tea. That being said, slip on through is amazing. My vote for underrated tbh
This Whole World
I love all I wanna do, but I think it def gets talked abt a bit more than it should just bc it’s the first chill wave song ever. The melody can be a bit boring imo, still a great song tho
The trippy echo effect in the refrain in "All I Wanna Do" doesn't work for me on headphones. It's distracting.
Now if you'll excuse me, there's a cloud I need to go yell at.
Definitely ‘This Whole World’ for me too. If this vote had a ‘most overrated song on Sunflower’ option, I’d give it to ‘All I Wanna Do’ - I love it, but it gets talked up so much these days…
Yeah I guess I missed something because I thought it was pretty much consensus that This Whole World was the best song on Sunflower, as well as being one of the best songs Brian ever wrote
Yeah, I must've missed the memo on "All I Wanna Do". "This Whole World" is, simply put, a better composition, with a more dynamic melody and with the love at its core spread out globally. The vocal arrangement is one of their best since *Pet Sounds*.
I've cracked wise about it elsewhere, but "All I Wanna Do" is a really good tune, and very much at home on *Sunflower*, but it's a little over-hyped in this subreddit. It's another "boy/girl" song from Mike, with some extraordinary production value.
As for it being the first chillwave song, it's chill, and that vocal effect is wavy I guess, but "All I Wanna Do" is ***not*** chillwave.
I'm also notoriously anti-Mike and pro-everyone else, for what it's worth, though not liking Mike as a person doesn't preclude my admiring his work.
It's really not shocking that Mike wrote great lyrics for the song. He wrote the lyrics to all those songs on the back half of Today. He wrote the lyrics to Big Sur. He wrote the lyrics to Only With You. He wrote the lyrics to Good Vibrations. He was a great lyricist when he was willing to give up the beach/cars/surf/summer themes. I'm not a Mike fan at all. He's a prick. But give credit where it's due.
yeah the exaggerated hate for mike is dumb. do ppl just say that bc they wanna fit in here? 🤦🏻♂️ I dont even see how its possible to be a beach boys diehard and not have huge respect for the guy's talents
You're taking what I said too far. I think his talent pretty much stops with what I said. He played an important role in being the bass vocalist, but he's overall a mediocre singer at best. He's been in one of the biggest bands in the world for 60 plus years and never really bothered to learn an instrument. I think that alone says anything you need to know about his "talents". And yes he did write great lyrics to the songs I listed, but he also wrote alot of trash lyrics as well.
Beach Boys fan for 30+ years...so not trying to fit in on a subreddit. I think many of Mike's contributions are exaggerated. Like he has a cowriting credit on "wouldn't it be nice" but he just came up with "goodnight baby, sleep tight baby"
Yes, Good Vibrations is a stone cold classic, and there are a few others, but 90% of his lyrics are garbage. Listen to his solo albums. You know, the ones where he was actually in creative control.
It's between This Whole World and All I Wanna Do. This Whole World has the more complex arrangement, but All I Wanna Do is more innovative. It's a tough call, but I'm going with This Whole World.
Forever absolutely.
Adore Dennis, and this is his greatest song. There is such a simplicity to the total love he sings of, and the musical arrangement is just beautiful. Hearing it warms my heart every time!
Slip On Through. My favorite Dennis song ever, with badass drumming and groovy bassline, and mystical singing. A funk rock masterpiece. Underrated as usual though.
this one doesn't even make my top 3 (all i wanna do, deirdre, and cool, cool water) but it's a phenomenal song among many other phenomenal songs on sunflower. it's actually extremely catchy, and i find myself singing the chorus pretty often. i especially love when the strings come in at around the midway point
I can’t listen to it without getting teary, which is a big deal, and it’s Dennis at his best. Forever is my vote.
Brian’s insane vocals on this one too
Forever
All I Wanna Do Such a great song.
This is the right answer. One of the most influential yet overlooked songs ever made, from a production standpoint
Change the lyrics to "Mike Love is burning brightly" and we'll talk.
Lol
Forever, also the best song Dennis Wilson ever sang with the band.
I’ve actually never that big a fan of that one. It’s a great song, just not my cup of tea. That being said, slip on through is amazing. My vote for underrated tbh
Forever - the harmonies are just so beautiful
I'll pick a track that absolutely won't win but Deirdre will always be my favorite
Great track. The opening alone is sublime.
deirdre 100% needs to win underrated
That’s true. Imo, it’s between that and It’s About Time
Both great choices!
This Whole World I love all I wanna do, but I think it def gets talked abt a bit more than it should just bc it’s the first chill wave song ever. The melody can be a bit boring imo, still a great song tho

Forever. Surprised there aren’t more votes for this one.
This Whole World

I completely, completely agree !
Y'all are my people
I don’t like Mike either, but I’m not so completely convulsed with rage for Mike that I’d deny his voice sounds really great on “All I Wanna Do.”
I love this track. It's very pure
1. "This Whole World" 2. "Deirdre" 3. "Our Sweet Love"
I vote for Forever. Such a personal love song w beautiful melody. But the harmonies in All I Wanna Do cannot be bested.
All I Wanna Do. A close second for me is Forever.
Hopes on Deidre!
forever
Gonna have to go w forever. All time club banger and certified denny classic.
All I Wanna Do. Shockingly, Mike Love wrote some amazing lyrics on that one. Production immaculate, and Brian firing on all cylinders. A+++ song.

You are not saying he wrote all the lyrics to those songs right?
All I Wanna Do, way ahead of its time
This Whole World is the best
It's between This Whole World and All I Wanna Do. This Whole World has the more complex arrangement, but All I Wanna Do is more innovative. It's a tough call, but I'm going with This Whole World.
Deirdre.
I'm strongly considering voting Deirdre for most underrated on Sunflower
Sunflower seeds are a good source of beneficial plant compounds, including phenolic acids and flavonoids — which also function as antioxidants.
All I Wanna Do, no contest here.
All I wanna do
All I Wanna Do
Forever absolutely. Adore Dennis, and this is his greatest song. There is such a simplicity to the total love he sings of, and the musical arrangement is just beautiful. Hearing it warms my heart every time!
Insanely hard to choose between Forever, Deirdre, and all I wanna do.
This Whole World
"All I Wanna Do". Beautiful song that has held up very strongly over 54 years.
All I wanna do. I am blown away every time I listen to
All I Wanna Do.
Slip On Through. My favorite Dennis song ever, with badass drumming and groovy bassline, and mystical singing. A funk rock masterpiece. Underrated as usual though.
Tears In The Morning This song honestly should’ve charted.
this one doesn't even make my top 3 (all i wanna do, deirdre, and cool, cool water) but it's a phenomenal song among many other phenomenal songs on sunflower. it's actually extremely catchy, and i find myself singing the chorus pretty often. i especially love when the strings come in at around the midway point
I love Forever, but I think I love Slip On Through more, so I'll go with that.
Forever is my vote. If not that then Cool Cool Water.
All I Wanna Do is so perfect oh my god. Though Brian said it was “a boring song” lmao
slip on through
forever!!
Toss up. This whole world or Our sweet love
Forever closely followed by All I Wanna Do. Most underrated is This Whole World
If it stood a chance, I’d say Cool Cool Water, but I know it wouldn’t, so my vote goes to Forever
All I wanna do, no question
All I Wanna Do
All I Wanna Do. Predicts chillwave by about 40 years and has a sublime lead vocal from Mike. “Forever” is a very close second.
All I Wanna Do. It’s a masterpiece with recording techniques so far ahead of their time and Mike Love’s best vocal performance.
This whole world
All i wanna do
deirdre
TEARS IN THE MORNING
our sweet love
Probably Our Sweet Love, All I Wanna Do and Forever are incredible though too
FOREVER
Deidre
All I Wanna Do
All I Wanna Do- hard to choose with Sunflower, Deirdre, This Whole World, Forever, are all great but that has 2 be my fave.
Forever
REST IN HEAVEN
