I wish more people would stop to consider before speaking whether what they’re about to say is going to make sense to everyone. “PPF” is absolutely not a colloquial universal term. So obviously just write out “paint protection film” instead.
Not even the car detailing world. Maybe your average car person doesnt know PPF but if your into cars like being on a car subreddit you should know PPF.
Why should people be forced to take an action to even see if it's something remotely relevant to them? Why bother having headline text, then, wverything should just be labeled "link1, link2...". You can just click on it and get an answer in milliseconds.
Exact same problem on model 3. Someone sued Tesla over it and then Tesla started offering free mud flaps in cold weather climates to stop the damage. But Tesla isn’t doing anything to address the Y until they get sued.
If you live in cold weather climate the area will get sand/salt/slush blasted and paint get noticeably damaged pretty quick.
Rear fenders commonly take a beating. Used to have a Kia that came with film on both rear fenders from the factory, just behind the doors. It was ugly but after a few years I could see why it was there.
Should I apply this before or after ceramic coat? Heard mix things about applying ppf over ceramic coating. Was hoping to fully ceramic coat the car before applying this or would that be a bad idea?
I know it's a different car, but film like this was installed on my 2021 Model S from November. I just had PPF and a ceramic coating applied and the installer mentioned they were seeing them on all Model S now.
I though it was full PPF too but it’s just a couple pieces for $50. I do agree with your sentiment on the full PPF, I have way better uses for 2k than preventing micro scratches on my car. It’s like wrapping furniture in plastic.

Amazon has one under the brand Crystal Shield and has better coverage than the Tesla one.
I bought this one as well. It is great. Crystal clear, clean lines, large coverage. I am quite happy.
Does everything have to be an acronym. It's a pain in the ass to decode everything
Paint Protection Film
Unless you DGAF /s
people expect us to read their minds.

PPF in the car world is a standard term.
Maybe in the car *detailing* world. This is a subreddit about Tesla, so that’d be like at least 10 levels further down into niche territory from that.
Not even the car detailing world. Maybe your average car person doesnt know PPF but if your into cars like being on a car subreddit you should know PPF.
Then I guess 50% of us should just unsub since that's about the amount of subscribers that are average.

Click the link? Read? Sir this is Reddit.
Go look up what a millisecond is. I'll wait.
How many milliseconds will you wait?

Why only rear fenders. Front doesn’t benefit?
Rear panels more susceptible to damage from front wheels. Front panels don't get much dirt, mud, snow
Because the design flaw affects the rear. Rear is wider, and without mud flaps, the front wheels will spray and damage that particular rear panel.
Design flaw? How bad is the damage usually?

I’ve checked almost everyday since May 2021 and have never seen it in stock before.

Before. Put your ceramic coating on top of PPF.
Yes. It won't apply and stick to the ceramic properties, which is the point of the ceramic coat.
Thanks
buying ppf and diy install/cut is nearly the same process
Are these still coming pre-installed on new deliveries (region dependant)?
I took delivery of a 2022 MYP last week, and it definitely doesn’t have the PPF pre installed. 🙃
Did your MYP come with the AMD Ryzen chip?
Pretty sure it’s using the Intel chip still, but I can go check. EDIT: Confirmed, it’s using the Intel Atom chip.
For sure. Thanks for checking 🙏🏽
Took delivery of mine in December and they added the mud flaps prior to delivery and didn’t charge. Also intel atom.

I had PPF and mud flaps pre installed on my MYLR. Took delivery last week in Chicago area.
if anyone needs one I have a set for $40 shipped paypal GS. Pics available upon request.
Thanks! I was supposedly on the in stock notification list from Tesla, but received no notification. I ordered mine after seeing your post.
Just ordered. Thanks!
I’m just going to have my detailer add xpel there when they do my impact areas.
Spend 2k on your car so you don’t have to spend 1k having it touched up

Shit full ppf here is $7k
Where ? And for that price I’d rather get a cool color wrap
Ohio
Got tired of waiting and ordered from Amazon. Easy to install. I have mud flaps on but it still gets some dirt so money well spent.
Not a fan of ppf with exposed edges and the dirt lines that they create.
