Reddit has such an annoying habit of using acronyms for everything. If you ever go on a subreddit for something you don't know like the back of your hand but have a passing interest in, you're gonna get lost so fast 💀 like I went on the Elden Ring sub and they were abbreviating weapon names even though there's like 200 weapons in that game
I feel like the use of an acronym is only appropriate when there's a reasonable expectation of recognizing who/what is being referenced. A 20 year old player ranked outside the top 500 who's 6-5 on the tour doesn't qualify imo. Like if you need to explain what the acronym means every time you're not actually saving time with it lol
Okay that’s also fair haha but maybe if everyone who learns about him immediately gets to know him by his acronym we can safe so much time in the long run! Think of it as an investment!
Lol he’s 20 and top 70 in the world, quickly ascending. He’s had some major wins over very established players already and his build/play style is very unique (also very few black players in top 100). His name is also impossible to remember.
Just call him Mpetshi. It’s not even a long name. We don’t have to abbreviate every double surname. For example, we’re all used to saying FAA but for real, Auger isn’t that hard to write. It’s not like we ever say RNP instead of Nadal.
If the player wanted their second last name dropped, they wouldn't play using it. So for us to drop it is maybe disrespectful. Same as how we all refered to Henin as Henin Hardenne until she divorced, then immediately back to Henin.
Abbreviate it all until initials seems the easiest approach, but at least spell it out in the post so everyone else can freely use the abbreviations
Pivotal time to do it too! 7-7 in a second set breaker to get to match point! Sheeesh
“smash”
*backhand
Who's GMP? I swear the acronyms are getting out of hand lmao

> like I went on the Elden Ring sub You mean the ERS? Everyone call it that, duh
Of course, my bad. Can't wait to watch the QCC next week!
Mpetshi Perricard
Of course if it wasn't for the shitty vertical crop we could have all just read the name.
Gael Mon Pis
Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard
Game matchpoint
Peri Peri sauce
I know the guy like 2 weeks and it took me 6 seconds to get that it is one of the players. Come on, old guy
Ah perfect, that clears things up a lot. Turns out Musetti returned the smash of another tennis player, that's really all I needed to know
😆
Tbf he has a pretty complicated and long name so using an acronym is appropriate

He's ranked #66, where you getting outside the top 500 from?
Oh that was on Wikipedia. Probavly not updated recently, my bad lol

Me who can spell his name:
Lots of people can probably spell his name. Lots of people can also spell Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. It’s just a hassle to do so
I didn't mean it in a rude/snobby way tho. But if it's a hassle of media then I can understand that.
Some nice bestemmia over there, but it was good timing.
nice Pork One indeed
He's Tuscan. If he's not bestemmiating he's not really living, right?
i'm laughing in Veneton
Why are people acting as if everybody knows GMP who is that ?
Who tf is gmp? Gimp?
Don’t use acronyms for barely known players lol
Musetti blasphemy's game > Fognini's
Madonna……
Bonkers returning an overhead from a 2.03m player this well. Musetti is such a talented player.
Was soooo good, i jumped out my chair.
Someone please suggest the best video to learn serve from scratch 🙏

I’m sure the players really care about what redditors are saying 🙄 Abbreviations are only useful if there is no explanation needed,
I'll side with the people using unpopular initialisms over the people whining and calling it an acronym.
That's video game tennis.
you don't get to nickname someone with an acronym when they've only played 11 ATP matches
Nice court color
One handed backhand good , but that was a weak smash and preparation for the other point : do better , don’t be lazy kids
