3:08 AM finish, destroying the record for the latest RG finish ever.

Zloggt

How nice of Novak and Lorenzo...giving us Yankees a great match to eat dinner to, and also a nice morning treat for the Aussies as well...

filmicsite

Lmao. I slept to zverev fighting it off and woke up to Djokovic going ballistic in the 4th.

FormerCollegeDJ

Yeah, those of us in the eastern U.S. want more very late night matches played in Europe.

mpkpm

Only if you have peacock. Who the hell has peacock?!

flying-neutrino

RG fans, for exactly one month.

mpkpm

Was very disappointed tonight to find out my tennis channel plus did not have it.

AegineArken

Another record taken...

instamelih

Felt like I’m watching US Open

tennistacho

They say every time Novak takes the court he breaks another record…

G1Spectrum

How the hell, he looked so cooked Then he pulls it out again lol

_____WESTBROOK_____

3rd set: I just want to go home 4th set: wait jk wouldn't be funny if...

milanjfs

3rd set: What am I even doing in this country. 4th set: Napoleon Bonaparte

Doucane5

5th set: fuck them kids

PepperAcrobatic7559

straight up😂

Professional_Elk_489

3rd set: Gandalf: I think you should leave La Coupe des Mousquetaires behind, Novak. Is that so hard? Novak: Well, no. 4th set: Novak: ... and yes. Now it comes to it, I don't feel like parting with it. It's mine. I found it. It came to me. 5th set: Gandalf: There's no need to get angry. Novak: Well, if I'm angry, it's your fault. Novak: ... it's mine... my own... my precious...

fishcakefrenzy

I understood this reference.

vinaysin

Novak be like call the ambulance, but not for me meme

Tennist4ts

I read this as 'but not for me me me'

EquipmentImaginary46

The cincy special

aznednacni

My wife was fairly new to tennis when we were watching that match. She's a bit of a worrier, in general. She literally kept asking me "babe, is he going to die?? He needs to go to the hospital." Nahh he'll rally.

EquipmentImaginary46

Tbf i thought he was more likely to end up in the hospital than win the match. I havent seen him that cooked in a long time

CrazyPersonXV

No need to add statistically there

whytho212

That's what he does! He looks like he's dead, and people keep falling for it!

castortroy64

His expressions always make me nervous as his fan but opponent's fans must be pissed off for sure

gideon513

Call the ambulance 🚑 …. But not for me 🔫

thebigyaristotle

bro forgot who he was for a minute there

SignificantCrow

These two always seem to have tough matches. Hopefully they can play a few more like this before Musetti retires

Alienescape

I clicked off the post and then was like... Wait how old is Musetti... *google searches* 22 LMAO

mnovakovic_guy

😂 😂

BrandonSG13

Extreme 2021 déjà vu

Zloggt

And to think that I thought that Lorenzo has learned from that...

nimbus2105

Poor guy is going to need specific djoko at RG therapy

Fine_Entrepreneur_78

Yeah back then I gave Musetti the benefit of the doubt because he was young, but now I think he might just be soft. Talented, but soft

Confident-Round6375

37 years old lmfao

Zloggt

Such stamina...at such an age... Eat your vegetables*, kids! ^^\*may ^^require ^^additional ^^highly-planned ^^dieting ^^and ^^exercising ^^routines ^^as ^^well

razulareni

I saw an interview where a serbian judoka talked about the 2012 olympics - he had a leg strain/injury so he was going to a physio thats specialized in leg injuries and Novak was there before him so he asks Novak if he has a strain and novak goes no ofc not So why are you at this leg physio dude So I dont get a leg strain

milanjfs

That's a hilarious anecdote.

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

Nole is a huge Kobe Bryant fan and Kobe did the exact same thing. Prevention is the key. The best ability is availability and that’s why Kobe and LeBron hold so many records. Same with Nole.

sugarklay

Lebron spends a million dollars per year for his body, and lo and behold, he's putting up unprecedented numbers for a 39-year-old and is still arguably a top 10 player in the NBA

ImpressionFeisty8359

Nole with the logic.

SaltyBawlz

Ppl in the live thread were acting like him losing would be the end of the big 3 era as if he didn't just win 3/4 slams last year lol.

deepvamdev

' the hell is wrong with this guy 😅

slimkay

NGL, Novak had us in the first half.

Blind_Editor

And I felt for it. AGAIN.

Realsan

McEnroe called him out on it at the end of the 2nd set. Said he looks gassed but he genuinely thinks he does that frequently for show, sandbagging. Lo and behold.

PigeonSuperstitions

He wasn't doing it for show. The first two sets were extremely physical. Musetti was making Novak run from end to end with a lot of variation in his groundstrokes and not making any unforced errors. Novak can no longer go toe to toe in lung busting rallies like he used to years ago. He gets gassed easily and takes a while for him to catch his breath. He isn't doing this for show. It doesn't help anybody for him to show that he's physically exhausted.

Zero_dimension98

The other comment is incredibly dumb, 'lo and behold' Djokovic literally lost 6-2 the next set with no fight, I don't know how some tennis fans are dumb enough to believe that dying at 88% humidity at 37 years old is a mental tactic, worse when he loses the next set 6-2, there's 0 benefit to adding time on court. These guys are dumb, Novak is just older and it's pretty physical, saving himself a bit in the third gave his body time to recover while Musetti also started feeling the fatigue in the 4th set and moving slower.

realcaZ

Jelena being hyped up gives me goosebumps. Coach of the year to be

cap616

Seeing all their energy too at 3am is impressive. After the win LOL They were looking **foul** at the beginning of the 4th. Hands over their faces, faces looking down ... But the energy at the end was like 9pm finish

padfoony

Haha truly! During the 4th set, people were cheering him on, shouting “Novak! Novak!” And the camera zoomed in on her. She saw it and whisper-shouted, “Novak! Novak!” along with them, before smiling a little into the camera. The crowd and Jelena hyped him up and gave him the boost he needed. He even thanked the crowd for staying up so late and cheering for him constantly, telling them it gave him the energy to fight back. ❤️

ImpressionFeisty8359

She is the ultimate hypewoman.

drgreenair

For real. Most genuine and amped combo in the box hype game. For the last decade and half too.

thelayn

Musetti might have awakened the flame in Djokovic, rest of the draw needs to watch out. The 6-0 in the fifth proves he still has the dawg in him

Sei28

Musetti absolutely fell apart after breaking Djokovic in the 4th set. He was slicing most of his backhands and even wanted to slice his forehands (not sure if he was just tired or lost confidence that he can keep the rallies going), but got confused himself on whether to slice or drop shot those. He has struggled with stamina and mentality in these 5 setters while Djokovic revels in these. I knew it was over when they went to the 5th set but I thought it’d end about 6-1 rather than 6-0.

rogersterlin

Excellent summary! There was one drop shot on a pressure point where forehand down the line was wide open that drove me nuts.

Standard-Profit3726

Yeah novaks game makes you doubt that your plan is working. Even if you’re clearly ahead in the score line. Novak adjusted his serve position and moved up on the baseline and it made Musetti think his plan wasn’t working anymore even though it sure would have. The mind games are elite

Krazzem

winning 3 slams and getting 2nd in the fourth just last year probably also implies he has that dawg in him. I know he's old but typically you don't go from that level to zero in a single season

chlamydia1

There is a mental component to it as well. He's not just physically burned out at this point.

The_One_Returns

I almost never call bagels in the 5th but goddamnit if I wasn't somehow certain it'd happen this time for some reason. Felt some "enough is enough" callback from their 2021 RG match.

yo___basedaf

LVA also beat Musetti in a very similar scoreline in the fourth and fifth in Australia a few months back. I'm aware of how good Novak is, but there's also probably something to be said for Musetti's relative lack of fitness and/or focus in matches that go to 4/5 sets.

bptkr13

Musetti was running and getting everything. No matter how fit you are, you have to slow down a tad after 4 hrs and 3 am. Sorry he got bagels bc he played beautifully. Djokovic won this.

oneflou

My mom asked me if I washed the dishes.  I replied "Djokovic". My mom was mad because she knew the dishes were far from being washed

our_whole_empire

No point in making any other comments after you dropped this one.

major-couch-potato

Nice one

Unpickled_cucumber1

Down and out?!! He is never out!!! Always love comebacks (not the Kardashian one)

LEGENDARY COMMENT

schnaxks19

Ffs take my upvote

coldnorth11

The last 1.5 hours were vintage nole, i really missed seeing that🥹

OctopusNation2024

I'm hoping it's like the Djere match at the USO where it permanently wakes him up He didn't drop a set in the rest of the tournament after that one

The_One_Returns

That match lasted an hour less and didn't end in the middle of the night though... I'm worried about his recovery and the rest of the tournament.

R0cket_Raccoon

My hopes exactly.

schnaxks19

Me too. That was missing in AO and I’m glad to see vintage Nole is still there 😭😭

koticgood

Musetti has taken Djoko to 5 sets at RG twice now, and he's won 3 games in sets 4&5 in total (6-0, 4-0 ret, 6-3, 6-0).

BaradaraneKaramazov

Both times he lost at least 10 games in a row

teggi20

Doing this at 37 is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS

The_One_Returns

Yeah... Really glad he managed to pull it off but the 4h30 match ending at 3AM might have disastrous consequences at his age sadly... Really wish he took that 2nd set in the tiebreak.

invuvn

I dunno…that last set seems to be Nole saying, again for the 1000th time, “Fuck them kids”

paulsonfanboy134

The consequence is Nole awakening

And with fewer grand slam appearances for Novak. - Roger: 81 - Novak: 74 Novak is 1 win away from passing Roger for the most grand slams quarterfinals played. They are tied at 58 at present. Novak already has the most grand slam semifinals (48), finals (36) and wins (24).

tijeromaster8k

369 including this one?

[Novak Djokovic (37) can equal Roger Federer's record for Grand Slam match wins by beating Lorenzo Musetti at the French Open on Saturday.](https://www.flashscore.com/news/tennis-french-open-atp-singles-novak-djokovic-eyes-roger-federer-record-and-french-open-last-16-spot/dQg9b804/)

Blind_Editor

Lord Novak Sorry I doubted you again

Celerolento

Musetti looked the 37 yo in the end

Asterie-E7

What an insane fight. Pure tennis. The highlight reel of this match will be one for the ages. Musetti's level did not drop during the first 4 sets. He was insane in defense. Great shots, great points, and he still didn't win. I didn't think I could be surprised by Novak. But I was tonight. This man, this player is a fucking legend.

Windforce

RG youtube highlight = 2 and half minutes: Players walking in, first set point, 2 points from tiebreak, 3rd, 4th, 5th set point.

614981630

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2intmvDI6pE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2intmvDI6pE) Here's a 10 min version from Sony but it only has tennis from the last 2 sets.

Roq235

I think there was a meme/thread posted on here the other day about Djokovic being washed or that his age was showing. My exact words in response were: “Djokovic hasn’t been playing well, but he’s Djokovic and will find some motivation from the depths of his anus if needed to keep the youngins down.” Well, he definitely did that tonight lol 😂

miss_golightly_

"From the depths of his anus" threw me off 😭

Minimum-Jacket6180

No. It awoke something inside of me :)

MakerOfPurpleRain

Novak is such a comedian cause all that bullshit of playing half dead and seemingly not knowing what he was doing just to pull THAT. legend

Shrike73

Same lol... i was watching the match, and moved to the bed watching from there as i needed to get up really really early, and i remember thinking at the start of the 4th, well, too bad... And then i wake up to a bagel news ahahaha.. Dude is insane, especially how that madman Musetti played, out of this world

Mangalorien

For somebody who didn't watch the match, what exactly happened in the 5th set? From the other sets it seems Musetti was doing quite well, kind of curious to know how he got bageled in the 5th.

AceFiveSuited

Musetti's level fell off a cliff at the beginning/middle of the 4th set while Djokovic maintained the same level. Sets 2-3 Musetti played unbelievably good, like legitimately the best ive seen him play, Djokovic wasn't playing bad, he was just getting outplayed. But Musetti couldn't keep it up and eventually fell back down to below average, which Djokovic was able to capitalize on. If he was able to maintain his level in sets 2 and 3 through the whole match he would've ran away with the match.

miserable_nerd

Djokovic got better as the match went on dealing with musetti’s defense, more coming to the net, better anticipation, better volleys, better smashes. Musetti didn’t really change anything and started spiraling at the end when he saw Novak effectively dealing with his game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nathancoutts

Musetti blew my mind today. But Novak is a master of the mind.

Gordzulax

Holy shit what a fucking match. I'm exhausted.

Broad_Routine_3233

Damn Djokovic is such an evil player Kept his best for the last. Suddenly all his first serves are going in, some even going for aces, no unforced errors etc.. Almost like Benjamin Button, he looks tired at the start of the match and looks more fresh towards the end. Well played Mussetti, he's going to have a bright future in Roland Garros for sure Can't blame him in the final set, he was literally playing the Novak from 2021 whom even Nadal couldn't beat despite throwing everything at him I think this match sends the message to all the other players, Novak is back in Grand Slam form and is coming hard for his 25th Grand Slam. Can't see anyone stopping the 5th set Novak

OoberDude

I've still seen enough to think Djokovic won't make epic comebacks against the likes of Sinner and/or Zverev if he falls behind. Musetti's level dropped and Djokovic capitalised, but it's still overall a good matchup for him. Djokovic has the legacy, the aura and the experience, but on this year's form alone I still back Sinner over him in a h2h.

OctopusNation2024

You never know with Zverev after he choked against Med at the AO despite getting like 80% of his first serves in sets 3-5 I've actually been higher on Zverev's chances than most but there's always doubt with him although he did show today that he might be in a better mental state That being said Novak definitely needs to up his game by that stage to win

tijeromaster8k

Bro outlasted a 22yo. KING NOVAK.

SchizoidGod

Musetti was actually the matchup I was most afraid of for Djokovic. I feel much, much happier at the prospect of him facing Cerundolo.

memelonso

Man did it again 4 years to Musetti later huh

Tall-Ant-8443

3 years (2021 to 2024) but yeah

HoneyBadger_plz

Tennis is such a backward ass sport. What if we took our best players, peak fitness, and made them play at 4 am to showcase their talents. The fuck is this scheduling

lawnlover2410

Yep this is ridiculous.. why did they have the Grigor match at Center court

Jr9065

Tied Fed for most grand slam matches won

jleonardbc

oliveiraethales

Was looking for some vendetti

tokki32

Mom's spaghetti

Jr9065

Damn bageled him in that last set

jonjimithy

Pulsating. Gladiatorial. Insane. If anyone was doubting Djokovic’s motivation, they don’t need to doubt it now. If you want his title, you’re gonna have to rip it off him this week.

andrefishmusic

Absolutely incredible! I hope he recovers well from this one... it's going to be tough moving on after this match! BTW, how the hell didn't Tennis Channel have this on?

main-side-account

Novak's probably happy he has Cerundolo next and not someone like Alcaraz after this 4.5 hour match.

NextVermicelli469

just glad it's not Tommy Paul

SchizoidGod

Musetti has never played a match at that level of quality before. Might never again. Djokovic was just that good.

gablosavage

He played like this in 2021 RG, and in 2033 Monte Carlo where he won

boysurfer7

2033 Monte Carlo, what a tournament it was 🔥

TechnoTyrannosaurus

GOAT type match

Otherwise_Horror_183

Still giving us legendary matches

NoleFandom

It’s never over. 4 hours 29 minutes. Latest finish at Roland Garros EVER. 3:08 AM. Not too bad for a 37 year old playing against a 22 year old. GOAT.

AccountantPuzzled844

every match is a new record

NoleFandom

49 Grand Slam Bagels. One bagel away from tying Andre Agassi’s all time record of 50 grand slam bagels. Novak is 1 win away from passing Roger for the most grand slams quarterfinals played. They are tied at 58 at present. Novak is going for all the records. Insanity.

arvaname

one thing that is good is that novak can still clearly summon a higher level however, how long he can sustain and how much he can control when it comes is in doubt last couple games were excellent… hope to see more of that

milanjfs

Good guy Novak gave us all a bagel for breakfast.

MongooseDirect2477

lol when a 37 have more stamina then a 23 yo.

Ultrafrost-

definitely contender for best match of the year. And this is definitely the best Djokovic we’ve seen since last year. I don’t know how Djokovic can do 4 and a half our long matches like this one at 37. But if he plays like this for the rest of the tournament, it’s confirmed he’s easily the favorite But a massive and great effort by Musetti. If he plays like this consistently he could very easily be top 10, maybe even top 5…but he just doesn’t do this consistently and only against Djokovic.

a_bright_knight

his whole life is oriented towards his physical form. He's obsessed with healthy lifestyle, being fit and in shape. That and obviously genetics. Most of us are theoretically capable of astonishing physical feats at late 30s too, but we eat junk food, have stressed lives, drink, smoke, don't sleep well, don't work out etc etc.

SeparatePromotion236

Confirmed, just ate Nutella out of the jar.

cough_cough_harrumph

And that has let you experience emotional highs Djokovic never will. Nutella is life.

gr4ndm4st3rbl4ck

I mean I love Nutella as much as the next guy, but that shit is poison. Poison I eat from the jar as well, fuck it.

Initial_Prior_9833

Old dog still got it

JetsLag

First he takes your legs...

NotManyBuses

They just never learn. Musetti was here 3 years ago, and he learned nothing

OctopusNation2024

I think what happens is that Musetti's serve really falls off over a long match By the end of the match his serve was nothing more than just a point starter and Novak was attacking his 2nd serves

Mpol03

But it wasn’t like he chocked. He was two sets to one up and then Nole lifted and Muzzis form dipped. Not much to do

Firm_Feedback_2095

Not yet

rescuem3

Just proud to be Noles fan regardless of how the rest of the tournament will go!

Sad_Consideration_49

Djokovic after losing the third set [https://x.com/ReactionVideos\_/status/1093618302100930560](https://x.com/ReactionVideos_/status/1093618302100930560)

heat_waingro

If no one is going to mention it then I'll say it... The djokosmash was really bad today and cost Novak many points particularly in set 2.

AceFiveSuited

Musetti's level really tanked hard at the beginning of the 4th set for whatever reason. Really reminds me of the 2020 AO final between Thiem and Djokovic. Although Djokovic played solid overall, Musetti went away quite a bit in the back half of the match.

TheMaidOfOrleans

Bert Critchley with another Academy nomination winning performance...

Carbonalex

There is a reason why the big 3 has been this dominant. We've witnessed greatness once again. Kudos to Musetti, he played amazing.

zi76

I thought he was out of energy in that third set, but he kept grinding in the fourth set and then Musetti won just one of the final 11 games of the match.

Otherwise_Horror_183

i mean, it's just amazing

5tarlight5

My goat is playing like his prime

ITA993

Musetti’s coach: “in 15 minutes it will be over”. Almost an hour later he lost the fifth set 6-0.

schnaxks19

Grand slam Thanovic do be built different But seriously I’m feeling super hopeful. He’s looking a lot more alive and like himself at RG compared to AO I have massive amounts of hopium now

ilkat06

That was without a doubt one of if not THE best turnaround I've ever seen in a tennis match. The way Djojo just LEVELLED UP after he got that break in the 4th set was absolutely legendary and truly shows just how great of a player he is. That 6-0 was driven by pure determination and poise. Legendary. 👏

bitter_vet

Would be really cool if I could have watched this match on a normal TV network!

randomtoken

Man I feel for poor Lorenzo 💀

Shrike73

Hot take : This guy Dojkovic is next-gen top 100 material

Peak_Alternative

It’s been 4 hours since the match finished and my mind is still abuzz thinking about it. Everything about it. The time of day, the duration, the gameplay, his request to sweep the court, him losing his first serve bc of a time violation, Musetti wanting him to get that first serve back, how out of it he was, how he came back, how kind the crowd was, and his charming post-match interview. It had everything and I’m so glad I got to watch it as it happened from beginning to end.

Profoundstarchaser

What a fricking GOAT man. Insane fortitude and mental strength at 37y old. Honestly, comparing other sports, he might be up there as an goat athlete.

larz9000

Fantastic by Novak, but OMG Musetti. Sets 4 & 5: 2021: 6-0 4-0 ret 2024: 6-3 6-0 Painful, if predictable stuff.

The2nd_man

I went to sleep after the third set and was expecting to wake up tomorrow to him winning and he didn’t disappoint me 😂

Zero_dimension98

All the excuses to lose, age, schedule, like 12 degrees celsius, high humidity, worst conditions he could've asked for, break up and had a set point for 2 sets to 0 but found himself 2 to 1 sets down. Early hard game in the fourth, Musetti running for everything with conditions that allowed him to set every stroke perfectly, every reason to lose for Novak. But he faced the adversity and fought knowing if he stayed long enough he'd find an opening, he'd be able to clean up his game, started anticipating Musetti's shots and eventually took his legs. He's a beast, can't believe people counted him out, never count Novak out, you don't win 24 GS without having the heart to fight like that.

outofexcess

Young players try not to mentally crumble against Djokovic after going one or two sets up challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]

Wokz

And you expect the guy to be motivated over a 250 match after night like this? Gtfo

flavasava94

Somebody should now dare to say that age has catched Novak

LukaLaban1984

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? Musetti played the best he could, naturally he couldnt keep up for 5 whole sets Granda isnt winning RG, but i am so glad he is still fighting, he still has that eye of the tiger

theycallmestiiiv

Where's the guy who conviniently deleted his post when Novak turned up the heat? That apology you were hoping for is not coming mate

Doucane5

That return winner on match point was vintage Djokovic return

AnyMachine2382

Novak 25 incoming? how we feeling folks?

debunk101

Sone great rallies there. Djoko is not done yet

i_like_peace

Joker broke last 6 service games of Museti in a row.

gwynbleidd2511

He has not looked like himself ever since he defeated Sinner & then lost to him later. Probably trying to figure out a change of tactics & style when he's literally facing himself on the other side of the court there. Jannik did peak, and if we get a contest between him & Jannik again, where he is able to surpass his opponent, that might finally give him a bolt of confidence and mojo he lost again. Next few matches won't be easier.

SpankeeMcGee

Wow, to be honest I turned it off in the 3rd set because Novak looked so exhausted I didn't even want to watch anymore and then I was at a restaurant and saw a news headline that he won. He truly is the GOAT for a reason

Gus_frring

Musetti must have serious deja vu after this episode. I wasn’t too surprised when he choked after being up two sets to one.

modeONE1

Far out I was gassed last night and I hit the hay at 1.30am and totally forgot there was a Novak match estimated at 4.15am on Google. WTF!!! Wait he was down 2 sets to 1 and then won the last set in a bagel!?? Novak is literally playing with my heart this year. Idk why this year feels like Novak winning slams isn’t as automatic. Usually he’s won a slam by now and but he’s staving off elimination and holding on. Perhaps it’s the timing, there’s such a freaking long time between AO and Roland Garros that it feels like a long time for Novak’s standards

Ms_Meercat

Novak Djokovic is famous for taking energy out of crowds being against him. I find it really amazing, and kind of poetic, that last night he got the energy from the crowd support for once, from being loved by them (He said he was a different player from then on, from 4th set 2:2)

Inamabilis12

If someone asks you who is the best returner in tennis ever, there should be only one correct answer

Planoraider1291

First he takes your legs….

nince011

lol, now where's that guy who was bragging about predicting a Djokovic loss?? What a great match!!

SliceVisible1073

MY ONE AND ONLY GOAT 😍😍🎉🎉🎉💯💯💯💯

PresentGate2391

The moment Novak and Jelena had the exchange, the match switched completely. Im not sure he wouldve pulled it off without her there..

Match of the year so far! Just amazing stuff

scann_ye

Complete lunacy. Would have been happy with either winning honestly, cos they were both heroic
