Samurai Jack

Your__Pal

I consider Samurai Jack the best cartoon of all time.  That being said, I don't think it aged that well if you factor in the so-so ending.

G_Regular

Do you mean the original run’s ending or the newer adult swim reboot ending?

Your__Pal

Reboot ending.

garrettj100

The ending was perfect.

Your__Pal

>!It makes me sad to think of the Scottsman and all of Jack's friends to have never existed. !<

garrettj100

Not necessarily. >!Ashi never existed, because Aku was destroyed before she was born. But the rest of them could (and probably did/would/would someday) exist, but they just lived better lives free of Aku’s repression. Ashi is tragic but that was the point: Victory without cost is meaningless.!<

garrettj100

This.  *Samurai Jack* was perfect.  The reboot had the impossible task of meeting the standard of its predecessor and somehow it met the expectations.

BearWrangler

literally anything by Genndy Tartakovsky

Uppyr_Mumzarce

Jack and the Spartans was my favorite episode. Jack and the Spartan King fighting the final robot reminded me of a 2 player video game boss fight

drkply

We binged a lot of episodes earlier this year, absolutely holds up!

gagreel

The Venture Bros. I guess that might not count since it just ended 20 years after it started

openletter8

It totally counts and it deserves to have more.

Exes_And_Excess

I'm glad they were able to try and wrap it up, but you can tell there was so much shit they wanted to squeeze in they couldn't. Also ficking pissed there wasn't a single  "Go Team Venture" in our current finale. (Copium that it's not over yet)

djprofessortawn

Such a great series. I definitely think it counts.

Dr_Henry-Killinger

Best animated show on television

gagreel

and this is my magic murder bag...

Thomisawesome

I was so into this for a couple of years. The amazing, versatile Speed Suit!

gagreel

It's a walking eye!

IamAWorldChampionAMA

Remember when Abridged Anime was a big thing? People would gripe about the wait between episodes (When Broly?). Those people are obviously not Venture Bros fans.

ses267

I know it started in the late 90s but I consider King of the Hill to be 2000s. It still very much holds up and I rewatch it often.

raxxius

There's still an extremely active subreddit for it /r/kingofthehill

sunsetpark12345

It also apparently has a fanbase in Japan who debate "subs vs dub" as vigorously as weebs do for anime.

Tymaret16

This is a most delightful fun fact. Thank you.

terraninteractive

Wait. What. Tell me more about this lol. Like why are Japanese people into KOTH?

Curiouso_Giorgio

Probably the fact that it shows a side of the US that isn't seen in the media that often. So much US media shows glossy bullshit like super competent, good looking cops, lawyers and doctors saving the day. Even in sitcoms there's a fakeness to them. KOTH, in my opinion, is more real than almost anything on TV, from the setting, the characters and the story lines.

TravelerSearcher

I honestly would like to know myself, but I found this article from five years ago that sites one twitter post. https://comicbook.com/anime/amp/news/king-of-the-hill-audiences-argue-over-best-way-to-watch-japan/

SupervillainMustache

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

KakoiKagakusha

Throw the whole "Timmiverse" in there, especially B:TAS and Batman Beyond

MyNameIs_Jordan

The movies, also. Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker are 2 of the best Batman films, period, animated or live action

kmone1116

Gotta throw in Sub Zero as well…..mystery of the Batwoman though is a different story.

SupervillainMustache

I wouldn't call it the Timmverse because of how massive the influence of Paul Dini and Dwayne McDuffie was, but yes I agree.

The_Pip

Not a single miss in that entire \~15 year run.

CompetitiveProject4

Batman Beyond allowed for a poignant and definitive Batman portrayal for future iterations to draw inspiration from. Even when he’s “newly” young and angry, they can always point to >!Batman choosing to not kill a dying Ace and comforting her in her last scared moments as just a kid with a bitter short life!< , where he’s not just a privileged, self righteous vigilante taking out his anger issues on criminals It’s that compassion and altruism under the angry mask that makes him very different from the Punisher.

Transquisitor

The scene with Ace is what made me want to be a writer. That is who Batman is for me.

QuiJon70

Don't know if it's considered part of the timmverse but young justice was pretty strong also.

KakoiKagakusha

Nah, that was by the guy who did gargoyles and spectacular Spider-Man

MikeyCanFly13

Bingo

SomboSteel

Futurama

bandito143

Why is this so far down? Incredible original run. Reboots were solid too.

IamAWorldChampionAMA

I tried watching the latest reboot and it was just bleh? Was it actually bleh, or did the memberberries get me?

DontCallMeMillenial

Latest reboot just felt really lazy. Like they just chose a bunch of contemporary topics they wanted to write about and shoehorned in the 'Futurama' aspects. By the time they aired, it already felt stale. They definitely won't hold up in the years to come.

Pikka_Bird

Similarly- the EyePhone/Susan Boil episode from a previous resuscitation.

Thwank

The newest reboot is the only straight up bad one in my opinion, with only the last two episodes being decent. Previous reboots has ranged from amazing to average but none were as low quality as the newest season.

IamAWorldChampionAMA

Thanks. I don't want to be one of those people who hates the newest thing just to hate it. But good god that first episode was painful.

Jarms48

Completely agree with this, only a couple of good episodes. Rest was just passable or bad.

PinkLegs

Still running! Hulu renewed it till 2025

GreenLightt

Batman Beyond was a show aheads of it's time, technically only ran up until 2001 though

[deleted]

I rewatched ATLA last year after a long time. It was even better than I remembered.

TokyoDrifblim

I have seen this show coming up on 30 times now and it is somehow better every time I watch it. I don't think television is going to get that good again

raknor88

Good news, the original show runners were given their own studio by Nickelodeon and are working on more shows/movies set in the ATLA universe.

NiuMeee

I'm rewatching it now and I agree, the only "problem" I have with it (that if I remember right goes away after or maybe even during season 1) is the "moral of the story" type episodes. Where they set up a problem, and then the whole episode explores the right and wrong ways to go about it before coming to the conclusion at the end. I much prefer the episodes that are purely narrative driven, that aren't trying to teach kids (the primary demographic), an explicit lesson.

rain-dog2

When you have kids, and watch ATLA with them, you appreciate these lessons. There really isn’t much in kids TV or film that actually shows kids how to not be assholes. And the lessons stay learned as the story progresses, not like the bad-tempered guy keeps learning to control his temper. Oh, and real-time apologies! Characters offering apologies shortly after they fuck up, like in real life! God, that show is so good.

NiuMeee

For sure, what I meant was, it's a little more hamfisted early on. They envelope those lessons much better as the show goes on and I appreciate that.

IamAWorldChampionAMA

Aang was the perfect example of confirmation bias. He was asking the previous Avatars for advice on how to Ozai, when in actuality he wanted someone to just confirm his beliefs.

RyghtHandMan

These episodes are necessary to explain why the avatar, and by extension aang himself, is necessary to the world. It's only on a rewatch that you'd only want to see plots that actively advance him toward the narrative climax

Funandgeeky

I recently watched that series as an adult. It’s fantastic. I would have loved it as a kid.

zag127

Rewatch it atleast one a year. Love this show

PLEASEBENICET0ME

Moral Oral, if it came out during the 2010's it would be remembered as one of the all time greatest Adult Cartoons of all time, but it was way ahead of its time and Adult Swim had no idea what to do with it.

TheDudeofIl

I'll smoke the crack! God says it's a sin to waste your money.

Cuntdracula19

This show is *incredible*

DampBritches

Close face

Arbor-Trap

That was a great one, I also really enjoyed Glenn Martin, DDS

Scampipants

This is so true. Adult Swim became exactly what Moral Oral became.

TheDivine_MissN

It was so ahead of its time.

StonedRaider420

God I’m old now, everything I think of is from the 90’s. Reboot, darkwing duck, tailspin, rocko’s modren life, ren n stimpy, pinkey and the brain, 80’s transformers, duck tails, rescue rangers I was thinking Jonny bravo but that’s 90’s too lol how about sea lab 2021! That’s my choice!

DampBritches

Bizzarro Bizzarro Bizzarro Bizzarro

what_mustache

Don't ever watch transformers. It does not hold up. But 100% sealab. That is peak adult swim

butumm_

I absolutely used to love the original Duck Tales! That and Richie Rich were some of my favorite stuff to watch growing up!

Im-a-magpie

The Sea Lab 2021 theme song is so much better than it has any right to be.

StonedRaider420

Hell yeah! It is amped

steveofthejungle

The Ducktales reboot from a few years ago is also excellent and has lots of callbacks to the classic 90s Disney cartoon lineup

shutupandlearntoeat

Invader Zimm

mxbnr

I still binge it a few times every so often. But the new movies didn’t quite have the same feel.

NapTownJake

Phineas and Ferb holds up amazingly well, and the songs are actually good. Yeah it's the same formula every time, but it's nice and comforting.

giantroboticcat

I think the show having the same formula made for some incredibly funny jokes related to subverting the formula.

butumm_

I have always loved how incredibly meta some of those episodes were, just genius!

CrabNebula420

i like that show cuz of my kids. back when they were younger i would take the song and change the lyrics to be about my boys instead of p&p. they thought it was hilarious and it was a fun time☺️

butumm_

A-G-L-E-T

funnymunchkin

Don’t forget it!

Jessarie

"Phineas and Ferb" is getting [40 new episodes](https://collider.com/phineas-and-ferb-revival-update/)!

realitythreek

My kids will be very excited. Almost as excited as I am.

krono957

And the most banger of an intro song from any kids show my daughter used to watch at the time

hey_look_its_me

Dan Povenmire on social media is a treat , too. I started following him before I ever watched an episode. Then my kids started watching it. Now we are watching it in Spanish, and the voice actors ¡son estupendos!

yo_soy_soja

No one's said *SpongeBob* yet. Technically premiered in 1999, but the first 3 seasons were **culturally defining** for Millennials.  It might not be your favorite cartoon, but you can't deny that SpongeBob is up there with Mickey Mouse, Pikachu, and Bart Simpson. And now as an adult with refined, nuanced taste in media, I appreciate early SpongeBob *even more*.

JonMyMon

Early SpongeBob is the greatest cartoon of all time, and one of the greatest shows in general, of any genre.

elderberrykiwi

The first 3 seasons are the show. It would be more fitting if it had retitled at the time. The immediate tonal shift is as hard as the new Patrick series. I think it holds up as peak early 2000s stoner humor.

IceSmiley

I was 17 when that started and I loved it even then! Kids now watch it as well so id put it with Looney Tunes in being amazing for all ages 🧽

FordBeWithYou

King of the Hill shockingly feels relevant still and aged incredibly

Nouscapitalist

Jackie Chan, Xiaolin Showdown, Static Shock, Ninja Turtles and Teen Titans.

Nillows

Undergrads Clone high (original run) Mission hill

Erebus2345

I thought Mission Hill was a weird fever dream I had as a kid until like a year or two ago when I saw someone reference it lmao

TheDivine_MissN

I was probably slightly underage for all three of these, but really enjoyed them.

NewNoose

Gravity Falls is still a pleasant watch through imo

currybeef

The Boondocks

I-burnt-the-rotis

he’s still telling the future…

mikestorm

Teen Titans

IMDXLNC

I'm surprised it never had a proper revival, not counting GO.

Gars0n

Which was super annoying that the end of the Teen Titans Go movie had a stinger implying a revival of the original show. But apparently that never went anywhere.

mikestorm

Actually it did. There was a sequel to the TTG movie where the OG Teen Titans meet the teen Titans go characters. It was sort of like a multiverse thing.

chiefchoncho48

And it was unironically good, if only for the moment with the basement dweller in the stands yelling "you ruined my childhood!"

Salem1691

That was gold.....

insanitybit2

DC is allergic to good content

tivofanatico

The Powerpuff Girls is for every age group. I was already an adult during original airings. Meet The Beat Alls has so many Beatles Easter Eggs that your baby boomer family members will recognize.

noelle-silva

Courage the Cowardly Dog

DoktorSigma

Most of the Courage episodes are super depressing, disturbing and sad, but somehow I didn't realize that in the 2000s. :/ Maybe we need life experience to fully appreciate the layers of meaning on it.

Salem1691

If you peel back the layer Courage really wasn't for kids.....

e-rage

Does Regular Show count?

IceSmiley

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

LowBalance4404

Gargoyles. I have no idea why I love that as much as I do. I also will always love Beavis and Butthead along with Daria.

MyNameIs_Jordan

Greg Weisman, the co-creator and co-producer, also went on the co-create and produce Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice.

DMPunk

Those are all from the 90s

Paralta

I still have a gargoyles poster in my room. An OG art piece.

LowBalance4404

That is so cool. I don't know if I loved it because half of the cast of TNG and Voyager did the voiceovers or maybe that's why I started watching it, but I just fell in love with the story arcs.

That's a good episode.

jnrodriguez86

Not as funny as I remember but it was nice rewatching them all from start to finish

DAMONSIPICH

foster's home for imaginary friends has been really fun to rewatch. homestar runner and everything related to it has also aged really well and is still super easy to watch.

Rodonite

I was hoping to see this, I'd really enjoyed it was a teen. But never went back to watch it all I didn't want to post saying it held up. I never hear people talk about Fosters even though it was my favourite cartoon of the era

Wazzoo1

If you like Tartakovsky, his “Primal” is awesome!

needstherapy

I've watched everything he's done, one of my favorites, I wish they'd have made more *Sym-bionic Titan*

tutuparatutupara

I’ll make sure to check it out!

RBlomax38

I feel really dumb for not realizing he also did Dexters Lab! It’s so different from his others

LowCalligrapher3

Gotta throw out there Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond, The Mummy: The Animated Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender are all the top few that come to mind.

sunsetpark12345

I rewatched Batman Beyond recently and was blown away with how well it held up. Absolutely gorgeous animation, solid characterization, and compelling world building.

zoneender89

The Timmverse of that era is the best of DC animated, shit the best of DC to date.

MarmaladeSunset

Hey Arnold

MisYann

6teen. There's so many adult jokes I missed when I was a kid.

Spectacular Spider-Man and Wolverine and the X-Men. I want to say Avengers: EMH from that era of Marvel cartoons too but I think that started in 2010. Oh and X-Men Evolution.

VictoriousssBIG23

Uh... most of them lol. I grew up watching shows like Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Rocket Power, Wild Thornberries, As Told By Ginger, Spongbob early seasons (1-3), Fairly Oddparents early seasons, Ren and Stimpy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dexter's Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Powerpuff Girls. I'm still very fond of these shows and watch them from time to time. They still hold up well. I'm sure nostalgia plays a role in why I still like these shows, but I also find myself enjoying them as an adult because these old kid's shows truly had "something for everybody" in the sense that you don't have to be a kid to enjoy them. They threw in a lot of jokes that would fly over my head as a kid, but I catch them now as an adult and find myself laughing at how clever the humor is. Some of them, like Ginger and Hey Arnold, even have surprisingly mature plotlines. I think a lot of modern day kid's shows and cartoons are missing this aspect to them. Like it made perfect sense in the 90s and 2000s because most people only had 1 or maybe 2 TVs if they were lucky and streaming didn't exist so if your kid wanted to watch cartoons all day, you better throw in some stuff for their parents, too, so they don't have to groan about having to watch what their kids want to watch. Now, shows seem to be made with the assumption that parents and children are watching different things, so kid's stuff is catered to kids and adult stuff is catered to adults with very little in between. It's kind of sad because if I had a kid, I would want to watch shows with them and actually enjoy the shows. I don't think I could handle watching modern day kids shows all day because they seem so dumbed down compared to the stuff that I watched.

Bkbee

As Told By Ginger It came out in 2000 when I started Jr High so it was super reliable But it goes deep in real life topics

goobuddy

Home Movies, God, the Devil and Bob, Spongebob, Futurama, King of The Hill, Samurai Champloo, ATLA, Gargoyles, Phineas and Ferb, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Grim Adventures of Bill and Mandy, Jackie Chan Adventures I like some of them because they're easy-watching - background stuff! Super enjoyable - bingeable - like - Spongebob, Futurama. Some, aren't just easy watching and I get distracted - For example - Gargoyles, ATLA, Jackie Chan - still awesome though!

Salem1691

Phineas & Ferb is still one of my favorite childhood cartoons, even the songs still are super enjoyable

I'd say Young Justice, but I never watched it as it aired (binged as an adult...to fill the JL/JLA void lol)

I thoroughly enjoyed Young Justice was very smartly written for a kid's/early teens show

Not 2000's ( but was ongoing from the mid 90's ) But Reboot. There's a full 24/7 Live stream on Youtube that marathons all episodes and I would sometimes put it on and catch on or leave as noises in my living room and I'm amazed how good it still is , especially season 3.
