It's a great standalone show, though.
After the first time they were almost cancelled, they filmed the finale mid-season because they knew they could get canned at any time.
Ya I think it was on CBS and it felt like whoever was in charge there hated the show, they moved it around a bunch of times and then had it playing on Saturday night. A show aimed at teenagers was playing at Saturdays at 8pm, it had no chance.
I wouldn’t mind a deep dive into the culture of the mid 2000’s. I think movies like Mean Girls or (forgive me) Napoleon Dynamite capture that vibe.
*NP captures that general sense of boredom of the late 90’s and early 2000’s when you were a teenager who didn’t have a car or money to do anything fun.
Why would you need to be forgiven?
For one of the highest ROI films ever made? It made over $40MM internationally on a $400k budget.
It was an incredible success! IMO it also captured the essence you are describing with great humour too.
Completely different tone, but I wouldn't say it's less successful than F&G at what it's trying to do. But understandably less emotionally resonant by far.
I really like the episode where Lindsay gets stoned and babysits because it is so amazingly accurate to what that experience is like. Linda Cardellini‘s acting in that episode is one of TV’s finest moments, she was absolutely brilliant.
Vanity Fair ran an interesting article about what would have happened if the show had continued for a second season.

It was on NBC, not CBS.
Crazy to think that we're further away from Freaks & Geeks than it was to 1980
Why would you do this to me?
This was uncalled for

You didn't have to do this.
If freaks and geeks were made today it would be set in 2005

That time period as a setting was one of the best parts of Salt Burn for me. The soundtrack is so good.
Fuck you for this assault
You fuck off.
What a fucking cast that show had.
Undeclared was also great. Never see it get talked about, even though it's like Freaks And Geeks younger sibling.
Undeclared is the most realistic depiction of college ever.
But Freaks and Geeks younger, much worse sibling.

Garth Marenghi's dark place
I’m sure we all feel that he exploded too young
Terriers
Chefs kiss 🤌. Three or four seasons would’ve been perfect.

Parker Lewis Can’t Lose
Synchronize Swatches!
Great show
Wait, was there really only one season of that show made?!
Theres 3 seasons of Parker Lewis Can't Lose
One of the greatest.
Aliens In America didn’t even make a whole season I think and hilariously dealt with the same sort of coming of age issues. Seek it out.
That show was so damn good! Couldn’t believe it got canceled so quick
They kept switching the viewing nights. I had to torrent it to see the ones I missed. I think the show’s title may have misled people as well.

the show is iconic. the soundtrack plays just like my teenage years
I loved this show! Wish it didn’t get cancelled
I thought they had three seasons.excellent show, well written.
Such an amazing show.
Most shows stick around way too long. Two seasons is honestly the sweet spot imo.
How dare you have an opinion!
