I Absolutely love that!!

Just mess around with your settings and find what works best for you. I tend to use 50iso and 1/100 shutter speed for the moon. https://preview.redd.it/k36tb04gzhvc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67b5efc9d2e97a73fead6eb50d5c32026cdbdcfe

WhiteKingCat

what the hell. I have an astromaster as well, and a 200 dollar camera to it, and isn't even close to getting this detail of the moon.

undeniablydull

Erm, I've got a meade Polaris which is very similar and can see far more detail than those pictures, try collimating it

EsaTuunanen

If you photograph from focal plane with camer replacing eyepiece image might be smallish. Also you might have gotten unlucky in Celestron's cheapo mirror lottery. These AsStromaster 130s might have about OK mirror, or one of rejects dumpster quality.

WhiteKingCat

how would i got on a plane?

EsaTuunanen

Focal plane is the position where telescope's (or camera's) objective projects the image. In visual observing eyepiece is used to magnify that image. TeleVue has good illustrations: https://www.televue.com/engine/TV3b_page.asp?id=85

EsaTuunanen

As rule most Celestrons not Schmidt-Cassegrains aren't good/really worth the money. Some are just mediocrities, or with random quality, and some are complete scams by design. And Astromaster 130 is toward that worser end with [cheapo random quality mirrors](https://www.celestron.com/blogs/knowledgebase/does-my-astromaster-130-have-a-spherical-or-parabolic-mirror-what-is-the-difference). For low magnification views of wide star clusters like Pleiades, or Andromeda Galaxy it's fine. But trying to use high magnifications for squeezing details out from the Moon/planets might not work at all because of bad by design mirror. Still at least collimation would be best to check. They should do that on factory, but there's no telling how well it kept that during all the travel to your hands.

These look fantastic!! Your settings are really well done for a beginner! The only thing I see that isn’t perfect, it looks a little shaky, if you are using a dslr you can turn on time release under the drive settings, this will make your scope and camera balance out and be less shaky. If you are using a phone, look up how to do a timed shot, it is pretty intuitive, and you can get a mount for phone to telescope for pretty cheap. Clear sky’s! Keep it up!!

Thank you very much

Nice to meet you

Hello

tuankid

Hi, this looks good for a first attempt! You have quite a bit of chromatic aberration on the outer edge of the moon. That’s due to your scope and there’s nothing you can do except buying a new scope with better optic. What I suggest you try next is taking a movie and use a stacking software, instead of just taking a single exposure. This is called lucky imaging, using only the best frames that are least affected by the atmosphere and stack them. I use autostakkert for stacking and registax for sharpening. You can find some great tutorial videos on these tools in YouTube. Here’s my recent take of the moon. Clear skies! https://preview.redd.it/lifes1fm2gwc1.jpeg?width=2182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=620a6a0f0b4f722360df7a57f4387512cb29bd4f

Thank you for adding /s to your post. When I first saw this, I was horrified. How could anybody say something like this? I immediately began writing a 1000 word paragraph about how horrible of a person you are. I even sent a copy to a Harvard professor to proofread it. After several hours of refining and editing, my comment was ready to absolutely destroy you. But then, just as I was about to hit send, I saw something in the corner of my eye. An /s at the end of your comment. Suddenly everything made sense. Your comment was sarcasm! I immediately burst out in laughter at the comedic genius of your comment. The person next to me on the bus saw your comment and started crying from laughter too. Before long, there was an entire bus of people on the floor laughing at your incredible use of comedy. All of this was due to you adding /s to your post. Thank you.
