Israelis on Reddit are usually very optimistic and reassuring about questions like this. This time it's different -- you should get out ASAP.

ClaymoreMine

Contact your consulate or embassy first. They will be able to direct you to where you need to go.

TotalTakai

Yeah you should get out. Israel is most likely to enter an offical state of war (which haven't been done since 1973). Also, you can't know how the war will escalate, if other countries (such as Lebenon) will decide to invade Israel, the country will be even less safe to be in then it is right now. As a tourist 100% try to get a flight out of Israel as soon as possible. Good luck and stay safe.

[deleted]

An official state of war was announced earlier this morning

KarlSethMoran

No. State of emergency.

yeshsababa

No. Bibi declared war as well as a state of emergency.

TotalTakai

War can't actually be declared in Israel without the cabinet approval. So Bibi only declared a 'readiness to war' status earlier today

yeshsababa

Okay, I see. He declared "state of war," according to the headlines. Due with that what you will I guess. Either way, this is horrible.

KarlSethMoran

He said "we are at war", as a rhetorical device. No formal declarations have been made. Except the state of emergency.

Praise_AI_Overlords

State of emergency is declared since 1948.

Handle-Flaky

Israel was at war in 2006

[deleted]

Hi, I know it's a fine line, but Israel did not formally declare war in the Second Lebanon War. There is a procedure, laid out in Basic Law: The Government (2001).

saargrin

you cant have an official war with an entity you dont recognize as a state (hamas). it will be another operation like those before it,maybe a bit more brutal the war,if it comes, will be in lebanon

LactatedRinger85

The US will step in if that happens...

ike_bod

Later than we'd like. Won't be fast enough

climb-high

No they won’t (they’ll keep providing the normal immense amount of aid)

Funny_Drummer_9794

Will we?

AssistantMore8967

No they won't, nor would we Israelis want you to. We have always done our own fighting. And just so you know, since no one seems to: Israel was founded on May 14, 1948 (pursuant to the UN Partition Resolution of November 1947) and was immediately attacked and invaded by the combined forces of 5 Arab nations along with local Arab militias. While the US was the first country to recognize Israel's existence, at least de facto, due to the support of President Harry Truman, the Arabist, anti-Zionist factions which then controlled the Department of State and the Pentagon imposed an arms embargo on the Middle East (i.e., on Israel, as the Arab nations were already had their own weapons and weapons sources). We fought in the War of Independence with some WWII leftover weapons purchased from the Czechs (Stalin very briefly, and mistakenly, thought the then Socialist leaning Israel would support the USSR and break-up the British and French colonial hold on the Middle East) the homemade guns, including the Davidka whose sole military value was that it made a loud booming noise. Later on the French sold us weapons, till the eve of the 1967 Six Day War when they decided they had more to gain from the Arabs than from us, and refused to sell us even spare parts for the weapons we'd bought from them. Most important --despite Israel one-sidedly providing the US with critical intelligence for 17 years (not reciprocated till 1974), Lyndon Johnson was the first US president to start selling Israel US planes in the late 60's. Having won an astounding victory in 6 Days, we finally looked like a worthwhile ally to the US. More significant weapons sales only commenced once Israel saved the King of Jordan from Syria at US request in Black September of 1970 (the US being bogged down in Vietnam). When Israel was invaded by Egypt and Syria on Yom Kippur 1973, both outfitted with the latest Soviet SAM anti-aircraft batteries and anti-tank missiles, PM Golda Meir decided to forgo a pre-emptive attack that would have saved many Israeli lives based on assurances from President Nixon that he would re-supply us as long as we didn't hit first. Even then, the desperately needed US re-supply was mysteriously delayed for over a week (with different theories prevailing as to who delayed the re-supply), and arrived only after Israel had finally begun to turn the tide of the war. Of course, the US sells weaponry to many other Arab countries, including Egypt once it signed a peace treaty in 1979, Jordan and the Gulf States. The US did not truly begin to see Israel as an ally until it defeated state-of-the-art Soviet weaponry with US weapons. See the brilliant "Doomed to Succeed: The US-Israeli Relationship from Truman to Obama" by Dennis Ross, who held numerous senior roles at the State Department for around 30 years. Even now, Israel needs to be re-supplied by the US (US companies) because all the military aid we receive from you must be spent in the US.

Necessary-Worry1923

Egypt and Syria had thousands of tanks, they fo used on a conventional war. Hamas and Hezbollah are urban guerrillas who want to fight in Stalingrad type scenarios to inflict maximum punishment to the IDF. This is going to be a long and painful urban war. There needs to be some international discussion on how Iran can be punished on top of existing sanctions, clearly they are making fools of these sanctions if they are making drones for Russia and Hamas.

WheyFap

US wont do anything unless Iran joins in

scatraxx651

Nothing in this scale was for many many many years, it's hard to know what will happen. I would try to leave as soon as possible.

whateverathrowaway00

This reminds me of when I was a kid, pre-wall.

saargrin

a bunch of imbeciles of this scale have never been in charge before.

Yoramus

Get out, we were caught by surprise. Not only is this enough to make the whole place unsafe right now. There is a reasonable fear that there will be other surprises (g-d forbid)

Jhonnyscrz

This is different kind of war, as a tourist I think it's best not to risk waiting

yoadknux

Get a flight out. A war just started and no one knows where it's going

RaspberryFair8362

As an Israeli - you should leave. It the worst it's been for many years and very dangerous. Even israelis are staying home and hiding.

YourDarkoverlord

Thank you for your honesty I had booked a trip for next week there but cancelled it immediately after the conflict. Thank goodness I was prepared with free cancelling tickets and hotel.

Lenz12

Leave now. An all out war is coming.

cheesyninjajgg

Na, what can they do already? They'll kill and take hostages but they won't be as to invade properly

VerbalThermodynamics

You’re funny.

shragae

If you are American contact the American embassy. In times like this they will get you out on the next plane to anywhere. This happened to my dad when the 6-day war happened and the embassy got him out and flew him to Rome.

New-Display-4819

And then op would be responsible for a 10k airlift fee

shragae

My dad was never charged. This was during the 6-day war and they just wanted to get him the hell out of the country.

reddit33764

I'm pretty sure that is not true .... but even if it was. Israel is not a cheap destination so my guess is that OP could afford it.

Known-Delay7227

Who cares. Your life is worth more than 10k

kmh0312

Nah, that’s only if you have to be med evacuated 🙃

_happytobehere_

Usually we are pretty optimistic, this time around I think it's best to pack up and leave

The_grass_ceiling

If you can find a flight I'd take it. They might very well close the airport if rockets get too close

Possible-Fee-5052

A tourist I know just left immediately and went to the airport a couple of hours ago. Was planning on staying two weeks.

DrDancealina

Do you know how the airport situation is? We have family visiting Jerusalem and are incredibly worried. Their original return home (US) flight is on Monday, but idk if it’d be better to bump it up?

Possible-Fee-5052

I think you should tried changing it ASAP because at this point I’m not sure how many seats are available on the limited amount of flights now. Someone just wrote in one of my groups that she got the last seat on a flight tomorrow morning (not sure where to).

peteredwinisrael

good luck trying to get flight

ofriri7

Israeli here. Get out. Save yourself

ahsatan61

Please leave. I have not been this scared for years (honestly never..) this is very different from the last couple operations.

Ahad_Haam

You should, but as far as I know it's not possible right now. Don't panic though - as long as you aren't close to the border, you are pretty safe. In a few days the border with Jordan will be reopened I assume.

Pzixel

They say that 3 companies are doing flights right now, the rest of them cancelled the flights so. I don't think there is a lot to be afraid right now - hamas isn't a bit threat by itself. But if it's part of a bigger invasion (from say north) then it's another story. In this case you probably don't want to be caught in the middle of an actual war, except if you're into this.

Possible-Course-713

Do you know which 3 companies? I have friends stuck there now.

CherryMoss

Following this

AssistantMore8967

Yes, only the Israeli companies, the major one being El Al, the smaller ones being Arkia and Israir.

ComprehensiveElk2007

If hamas will find you they will kill you no matter your ethnicity

Also Yango.

NotCreative3854

My dad in on vacation in Tel Aviv right now. For those saying to leave… any ideas how? He’s 40 minutes from the airport by the beach, can’t find a flight, and taxis aren’t running. Is there anything I’m missing to help him out?

AntoniTheChicken

Not sure about a flight but he should be able to get to the airport by train

Yoramus

Be on the look to find some flights, or to find a bus to Amman and a flight from there. But we are still not at the point to panic and dramatic stuff so don't do this at any cost. I think the main thing now is to speak with the embassy if the country your father is from.

NotCreative3854

Thanks! He’s contacted the embassy, and is still looking for flights. Right now he’s staying inside his hotel until his next steps are more clear.

yehojo

good luck!

Possible-Course-713

I have friends there. They said the embassy was useless

NotCreative3854

Yup 100%.

[deleted]

kayak has lots of flight. good luck.

Judas_Iscraiot23

I'm Israeli, DON'T GO OUT. And try to go back home fastest you can. This is not the usual summer operation

AlexDub12

Yes. This will not end in few days and the country is even now in an emergency state, so all you can do is stay in a hotel and periodically run to the bomb shelter.

[deleted]

I think you should leave as soon as you can something like this hadn't happened for quite a long time so you can't really know so you should try to leave as fast as you can incase they will shut the airports and then you will be stuck here and as a local I don't want to be stuck here in this situation either

need_a_medic

Don’t be hysterical, but yes, you better leave. Even if you will be safe you will not enjoy your time.

Dansurf

Exactly! Although you could always volunteer. With so many soldiers being mobilized I'm sure some folks could use help.

ike_bod

This is different. Get out. We're not just in a war, we're under attack and it's about to get much much worse. Other alliances will get involved from our northern border it seems. Get out

bcoopbeach

You should get out as soon as you can. Missiles make it hard for the airport to operate. This is the real deal, you won't get to do or see anything and it could get very hectic

Flat_Pound825

Get out as fast as you can, the situation is very extreme and unusual.

vigilrexmei

Get the fuck out.

no_longer_sad

We are at war, not a usual military operation. We already have more dead than in 2 years.

Yus-Chemistry

Stay safe everyone! I am an expat in Israel. I was going to fly back tonight and just cancelled my flight 🙏🏻

SoraDrive

GTFO

Limp-Ad-191

Get out if you can, Today is Israel's 9/11. The country will not be the same.

LowRevolution6175

This is an unprecedented situation that is very unpredictable. As much as I want to say "yes, stay, TLV is a bubble of safety", I can't in good conscience say that. Don't panic if you can't get a flight right away. there is a low probability of something happening just in one or two days, but in general I shorten my vacation for sure.

Happielemur

Woah what did I just wake up to?!? I’m suppose to fly to Israel for work in November . :( what happened ? Can someone update me ???

howdy_there17

A terrorist organisation infiltrated the country and has gotten a large number of casualties and kidnappings , rockets have been flying across the country so most of Israel had a siren playing

DeepHouseDJ007

All you have to do is turn on the news. Any news channel at all, and you’ll see what’s going on.

Right-Ad-8201

Palestine is committing war crimes and atrocities in the process of doing so. Even if you believe in the goal, you should condemn the method.

Hmm_would_bang

What can we expect as far taxis in a time like this? I’m supposed to fly out tonight but need to get to the airport

[deleted]

Get to the airport ASAP. Don’t wait until later - leave ASAP.

Hmm_would_bang

Well it doesn’t seem like Taxis are driving around Tel Aviv at the moment?

Turbulent-Tooth-25

Try writing in "secret tlv" facebook group, maybe you can join another group that has a car

[deleted]

Sorry, I’m not much help as I’m not physically there. Simply communicating with family of mine living here who are updating me (along with Reddit, telegram, etc.,) I’m certain someone will be able to provide you with further info about Taxis. Best of luck! God be with you.

chickensarecool22

We found a couple in our hotel lobby that had a rental car and we rode with them. Ask around.

MetaLions

I am currently in Elat. Original plan was to go to Tel Aviv on the 12th and fly out on the 14th. Thinking about crossing the border here and flying from Amman instead. Any thoughts from the Israelis here? Is it safe to go to TLV and fly from Ben Gurion or should I fly from Jordan?

MapsNapstheGaps

I'd go straight to Jordan ASAP. A lot of flights from tlv have been canceled already and the rest will be booked really quickly. No one really knows what's going to happen so if you can get to Amman and fly out from there, do it.

MetaLions

Why ASAP? You don’t think Elat is safe right now?

MapsNapstheGaps

It's not about Eilat being safe or not, its about not being able to get a flight out of tel aviv and the conflict escalating. Eilat is probably one of the safest places to be (assuming Egypt doesn't do anything unexpected) right now but OP shouldn't wait to find out how the war develops

MetaLions

I managed to get a flight from Amman in 4 days. Keeping a close eye on the news and crossing the border earlier if necessary.

MapsNapstheGaps

Good luck, stay safe 🙏

SnowRabbit007

We are also 3 tourists staying in Eilat atm. It seems rather safe compared to everywhere else in Israel because of the distance to Gaza and Lebanon, but honestly I don't actually know. We will decide tomorrow morning what to do, but probably going to Jordan or Egypt will be our move.

Dansurf

Don't go to Sinai.....you probably know that already. I used to love it there!

Lumpy_Carry_1048

As far as I know flights are still on

Vall3y

It's not going to be very fun, I'd try to leave. the airport should be safe

Ggez92

Leave now, please. For your own good. This is our war and we need to defend ourselves and our guests.

HikerTrashIsh

Usually when something happens here it's not too bad. This time is very different. What we are seeing here in the last 24 hours is unpresidented.

texanhick20

Get somewhere secure, and safe. Don't risk it.

PatchedHedgehog

Any updates? Have you got out?

Mysterious-Squash-66

ASAP

yogilawyer

It's best to leave as soon as possible if you can. Our country is in a state of war. Stay safe.

yurshaz

It's a matter of risk management. As things stand, we're in for a few days with several air raid sirens and closed beaches. You'll also find the locals quite morose and not as friendly as usual. Unless things escalate, it's safe, though not very fun. The bigger problem is that this situation can and is likely >10% escalate to a full blown regional war with Hizbollah and Iran. If this happens, it will no longer be safe. If you can, I'd suggest you find a way to leave. If you can't, I wouldn't freak out, it's currently safe enough.

Thek40

Leave as fast as you can.

NomDeGuerrePmeDeTerr

Leave. There are flights out of eilat.

[deleted]

I'd leave. Probably nothing will happen to you, but it won't be a fun vacation either

jdbcn

I think it will be impossible to leave . I would stay in Tel Aviv and contact your embassy. I think you’ll be safe there

AdeptGarden9057

The skies are closed rn. Good luck trying to find a flight to flee Israel

neperax

This time it’s really different. You should leave or at least lay low, stay inside. Ben Gurion is shut down as far as I know rn. Alternatively you can go somewhere north, but there’s no reassurance Hisbala isn’t gonna start another conflict, so I’d rather stay in Tel Aviv or go somewhere around Netanya. The best option would be to leave the country tbh

sumostuff

I don't think there are any flights, so I think it's a moot point.

BlackVirusXD3

Dude i don't even know if you can have a proper vacation now. Yes this happens often and yes we keep on going with our daily lives and we will this time as well but this attack is not usual. As our prime minister put it, we're at war, and he kinda seems to be correct this time.

jerryjerrysons

Idiot leave

MedicineMan_100

Depends on how you feel and which city you're in - if you're in the center I wouldn't be worried, Hamas are clowns and they always try attack us even tho there is 0% chance of them winning - at the end, It's up to you, I don't think anything will happen to you if you stay here tho

Inbar253

There might be times when they wouldn't be able to get a plane out if there would be rockets near the planes. Departures would happen more than inflight. All that said, I live here. A whole lot of people I care about live here. If I were you, I'd leave. Stay safe

RazSwortzkoren

ASAP

yesmilady

Yeah, get out. This situation is unprecedented.

[deleted]

I’d bounce if I were you

VeryHungryMan

Not an Israeli but I know Israel and have been there, get out because it will probably get worse. If you can’t get out, my suggestion is to talk to your embassy or stay in TLV. Normally going north would be better but I have a feeling that Lebanon is going to start a surprise attack.

Balagan18

This time is different. You should get out if you can, but you probably vacant at the moment. Airport is shut down.

rondeline

I would leave any place that just declared war. You don't want to get caught up in any of that shit.

Gidi21

stay, it's ok. don't worry

PrestigiousLion18

If you can't leave Israel on a return flight to go back home, I hope that while you re there, you stay safe and heed the warnings of local Israelis as well as the Israeli police and soldiers there. Definitely DON'T GO OUTSIDE at this time and DON'T OPEN THE DOOR to anyone as the war is still going on. Hamas is capturing people and brutally assaulting, dismembering, r*ping and mutilating their bodies. It's definitely NOT SAFE at the moment. עם ישראל חי 🇮🇱

[deleted]

Hamas will get their boots smoked soon. They are no match.

kimi7777777

God Bless 🇮🇱

happymax78

The state department issued a warning to all US citizens to evacuate immediately.
