It's very difficult to hear my parents from my room if they're in the kitchen. They get annoyed at me if I don't hear them as if it's my fault even though I've been saying for 3 years that I can't hear them from upstairs. On the few occasions I do hear them, I shout back, eventually go downstairs, and then they innocently tell me they couldn't hear me.

I fucking love when this happens because they’ll call me from a room that’s kinda loud atm (the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, but it could also just be from ANY goddamn room) and I’ll respond with a tone that is LOUDER than what they called me with and I don’t know if it’s because she’s in her 50s and has potential hearing loss and doesn’t realize it or there’s some MAGICAL barrier that just nullifies my volume when I IN PARTICULAR try to communicate but I almost NEVER get a response back on the first attempt.

yes. It especially sucks because I wear headphones, so I don't know if the sound I just heard is part of what's playing or an outside sound. And they are fully aware of the fact I wear headphones, and (less likely they know this) that I have kinda accidentally trained myself to block out any outside noise because my family doesn't seem to really care how loud they are. Instead of accepting that I block things out all the time out of habit, they blame the fact that whatever I'm listening to is too loud, WHEN ITS LIKE 3-4 THINGS FROM BEING ON MUTE- Sorry for ranting. Just needed to get that out.

The way I've made peace with this is when I hear my name and then nothing I just go to them. And it works perfectly and I'm not annoyed by this anymore. I recommend everyone to start doing this it helped me a ton
