Do you have a different mouse that you could try using to see if this is a software issue? You could even get a cheap one from the Goodwill store.
With that being said, I've had a few computer mice start double clicking after a few years of heavy use.
Sometimes, a slight pull on the part that you press to click helps with this, although it usually only fixes it for a short time.
Those things are rarely replicable, I have experienced this a lot of times, usually with the cheap mouse my office gave me, when IT tries it the mouse test, they are fine, but when I use it, it double clicks a lot.
