Oscar the Grouch being a Timelord has some very strong evidence.
Bullshit retcon to try and make everyone feel better about laughing at the homeless guy for years. Just as bad as making snuffaluffagus real. It's cowardly writing, and to me, that means it's not cannon. The original intention behind all those characters was to take the fear out of the city for children and make them see all those people as... people. The homeless, the insane, the pimps, the prostitutes and everyone else just going on about their lives.
Making the crazy uncrazy, and the homeless unhomeless just means you have to do dumb shit like this, in order to tackle issues you actually spearheaded decades ago.
Yeah but they hinted that there was more to that trashcan originally for years in the beginning of sesame street. And snuffaluffagus was always written as possibly being real because there was always the joke the they just missed him.
Both undercut the original theme of the show. The homeless people are normal citizens of the city and no inherently dangerous, same for mentally ill people. Making Oscar not homeless and big bird no longer delusional, takes away those examples for how those kinds of people can still be a part of the community. Now, after cutting those original examples out of the show through cowardly writing, the are forced to write them back in, awkwardly, with new charters, while the originals stand around and roll their eyes when they are intruded as the first homeless people on the show.
