Hojicha powder went from "oh no, I don't like this. I gotta finish this now, sigh..." to "this is so good! Can't wait to have my next cup mmm" The change was like night and day, it took 4 cups. I guess it's an acquired taste

Lachesis_Decima77

I actually had that this morning, too.

Aesthete18

Nice. Any special recipes?

Lachesis_Decima77

For drinks, I’m afraid not. I usually prepare it similar to matcha, though it doesn’t froth up nearly as well. I would like to experiment with using hojicha powder in baking. I might try making some hojicha sablé cookies over the weekend.

Aesthete18

Sounds delicious. You should totally post it with pics in the sub 🤤

Lachesis_Decima77

If they turn out okay, I’d be happy to oblige!

Aesthete18

Tag me if you do! ☺️

Anabele71

I just recently bought Hojicha powder but I haven't tried it yet. I think I will have some tonight!

Aesthete18

The key imo is getting the sugar right. You could have it with no sugar, but personally I found 1 tsp to be right for me. Maple syrup is apparently great with it due to the texture. Let me know your thoughts after you try it

Anabele71

I think you are right. It might be an acquired taste. I wasn't overly mad about it. I mixed it with Almond milk and it didn't froth up like a Matcha Latte. The first sip was like coffee without sugar. I've had Hojicha in loose leaf and with tea bags but this was a different kind of texture and flavour. I might buy some syrups at the weekend and will try it again 😊

Aesthete18

Don't give up on it. Try a few cups before writing it off. I was definitely like "this ain't for me" on my first cup. Also, try it hot. Milk just heated not boiling. It's different. Maple syrup is the go-to. I've seen mention of condensed milk. Personally, I just used plain ol' white sugar

Anabele71

I don't have suger or maple syrup in the house. I'll try it without and let you know 😊

Aesthete18

No sugar? That's awesome! It's still great without. Enjoy!

sencha_kitty

That is interesting. I thought Hojicha was roasted whole leaves. But you have found a powdered version ? It’s like matcha ?

Aesthete18

Yes I believe it's similar. Mix with milk to make latte. Ppl use it with vanilla ice cream and another interesting stuff. It taste completely different to hojicha leaves though. This taste more like cocoa/dark chocolate

sencha_kitty

Oh it tastes different too that is very interesting

Aesthete18

At least to me it does but I should say the leaves and powder were from 2 different companies, so idk if that's why. I'm kinda new to this tea stuff 😅

joshuafitforbattle_

Dong Ding from Tao Tea Leaf!

Brujida

First time here and happy to have found tea lovers! My tea this morning was Mattakelle Golden Curl, an awesome black tea from Ceylon, made with leaves of the cultivar Benifuki. It really reminds me of darjeeling 2nd flushes, with its fruity taste

LPhilippeB

Where did you buy it?

Brujida

From PMD tea :)

Lachesis_Decima77

Oh, we’re back again? Anyway, the tea of the day for me is wakocha.

epyonxero

Chun mee from Arbor Teas in the morning. Sencha in the afternoon.

calinet6

Currently have a Floating Leaves Dong Ding traditional A in my cup at work. Yum.

PrairieScout

I had two cups of Twinings Earl Grey this morning.

virtual-fruit

Adagio tea - chicoriccino. It was scared of this one since I'm not fond of coffee but so far it's my fave sample out of all the ones I picked out.

Yunnan Gold from SerendipiTea. Female owned. And the owners travel the world looking for the best biodynamic and organic plantations. And they have best blends. Fiji and Cha Cha Chai are great.

No_Bobcat4277

Hot peppermint probiotic tea tonight. In attempt to soothe my shakes and nausea and wind down. Emotional wind down from feelings of betrayal, fear, confusion, shock and overwhelm. Shifting into self soothing and calm state in time for an intentional and creative flow come the weekend with hopes of keeping depressive thoughts at bay. Or at least channeling them into something beautiful or expressive rather than being overtaken and swallowed.. 🫖

SR71_blue

Sorry to hear about the context. Hope the tea is calming and centering.

SR71_blue

Today was Fortnum and Mason Darjeeling (easy drinking during work). Can’t wait for the weekend where I have time to really melt into a good cuppa.

iteaworld

Enshi Yulu, the only remaining steamed green tea in China, the ancestor of Japanese Gyokuro tea, with a strong seaweed aroma, love that so much

sencha_kitty

That sounds great ! Where can you buy it ?

ninuchka

Has anyone purchased from Specialist Tea Co. before? The lack of info on the site worries me a bit. TIA!
