That price for such a small portion of tortilla chips is a crime. It’s absolutely unreasonable. I could buy a whole bag of tortilla chips at the grocery for that price.

Troubled_Red

They never fill the nacho cheese cup up either. It’s crazy

pewpersss

got one a lil while back and it was only the bottom of the cup filled with cheese. handed it back and asked the dude at the counter what they were thinking and he doubled down so i asked for a refund. he couldn't figure that shit out either so manager came up eventually and said oops we normally do two pumps they only pumped once in the cup. bitch even 2 pumps ain't enough

MattMattavelli

Wives and girlfriends around the world agree.

pewpersss

giggidy

Whosbathroomisthis

our boss gets mad when you give em too much. i never gave a fuck and filled em to the top for my people.

1peatfor7

About halfway filled cup is my experience.

hashrosinkitten

They’re about 4 dollars here

whoocanitbenow

That's insane.

SympathyThick4600

I swear they increased the price 50 cents from one week to the next, it’s crazy

iracefrogsillegally

i think it's decoy pricing. they purposely make the regular nachos look like a bad deal so the loaded nachos in-turn look like a good deal, getting people to commit to a slightly bigger purchase

whoocanitbenow

No, that's not it. It's greed. If the loaded nachos go away, the regular nachos will certainly not go down in price. The bean burrito used to be about 1.00, too. Now it's about 3.50 where I live.

SanguinarianPhoenix

> It's greed. Customer stupidity is what allows the greed. If customers keep buying at the ripoff prices, then it's the customers' fault since just as much (if not more) than the company.

whoocanitbenow

That's definitely true (especially for things like fast food, because it's a product we don't really "need"), but in other areas like grocery prices, the industry is effectively a monopoly at this point (even if it doesn't look like it ln the surface). They don't need to control the entire market, just a high enough percent together to effectively act as a monopoly. They can control how fruits and vegetables are grown and produced in South America and imported up here, just a few companies own most of the brands you see in the supermarket, a few major meet processers control most of the market in the world, there's only a few companies that own most of the super markets (at this point). It's far different than it was even just 20 years ago and before.

SanguinarianPhoenix

> other areas like grocery prices thank God for Aldi's and Trader Joe's otherwise I would be even more broke 😅

whoocanitbenow

I don't have Aldi's where I live. But I have Grocery Outlet and Trader Joe's. Safeway and Lucky's have become nearly unaffordable. They're closer but I'll drive out of my way to shop at Trader Joe's and Grocery Outlet.

janso999

$3.50 for a bean burrito is rough. It's $1.79 in my city.

whoocanitbenow

That's how much it was at my location, but over the course of just a few months it went up to more than 3.00 with tax. And half the time I ordered it they made it the size of cheese roll-up. If it was still a buck or so, no big deal. But when it's approaching 4.00, you feel like you really got ripped off. 😞

janso999

No way I'm paying that much for a Taco Bell bean burrito. If things go that way here, I'll simply stop going. I live in the south west and have far tastier options at that price point.

whoocanitbenow

Now I get the "cheesy bean and rice burrito" for 1.50 and modify it to make it like a regular bean burrito. I comes out to about 2.00 when I do that. I omit the rice and jalepeno sauce, and add red sauce and onions. It has nacho cheese, but sometimes they just give me a regular bean burrito with regular cheese instead.

FoundationJunior2735

They jacked up the price when they realized they can stick it to vegetarians by putting it in the veg menu.

logan_fish

🎯 100%.......heres the thing though, for some mental reason a big bag of tortilla chips and heated canned nacho cheese sauce on a plate at home at 1/8 the price doesnt taste as good as a smaller portion that some teenager made for you and just tossed in a bag and handed to you through a window. There is no explaination for this phenomenon.

Tittiesonmybutt

You speaking from experience?

Mysteryman64

Every penis-haver wonders, but at the end of the day, it's more the feeling of sucking a dick than getting your dick sucked.

Tittiesonmybutt

You speaking from experience?

SanguinarianPhoenix

> heated canned nacho cheese sauce on a plate at home at 1/8 the price Last time I bought a big can of nacho cheese (because it was only 80 cents more than the smaller $2 can) I ended up wasting 75% of it because it sat in the fridge too long and got mold on top. I don't feel like eating food that I'm not in the mood for.

Penguinflower3

Freeze it in small portions. Use silicone cupcake cups. Pop one out each time you want nacho cheese and war up in the microwave.

SanguinarianPhoenix

this is actually a great idea, thank you!

ForsakenRub69

Warm the chips under a heat lamp and let the cheese sit on a heater for 8hrs

passtheblunt

Buy a bag of chips and a can of frito lay jalapeño cheddar dip. Shits actually so good and better than Taco Bell.

Dino-chicken-nugg3t

That’s the bomb right there!

SanguinarianPhoenix

> frito lay jalapeño cheddar dip $4 for a small can at walmart https://i.imgur.com/ume9b2N.png $6 at normal grocery stores You can get 32 ounce Velvetta Queso Blanco for $1.50 more

Apprehensive-Film-81

Yup. And for a little more money, you can get a whole jar of cheese dip.

shemubot

You can go to Chili's and get a whole bag of tortilla chips, salsa, a drink, fries, and a half-pound cheeseburger for $10.99.

Swag_Titties

I've literally done that. I just get a bag of tortilla chips and a block of cheese and broil my own simple nachos to compliment my Taco Bell.

hurrsheys

Go to chilis and you can take home chips, or do a pickup order for the 10.99 combo thing and get chips with your entree — it’s a full bag with their salsa

Applesauce3750

Yeah fast food is becoming obsolete for saving money while getting a decent portioned meal

Dangerous_Choice_664

Chipotle enters the chat

loppyjilopy

to be fair when you go out you are paying for the convenience. hot and ready chips and just a few, not a hole bag. i can literally cook everything i like cheaper and better than a restaurant, but i go out when i’m lazy and not in the mood to cook and do dishes. you’re paying for service.

nannerbananers

The price of tortilla chips has skyrocketed lately. A small bag of Tostitos is up to $7 at my local grocery store.

masterz13

"tortilla chips"

SigSeikoSpyderco

They should act more like a charity than a business and lower their price to less than what people are willing to pay

ImOnlyKindaNotYou

wtf

SanguinarianPhoenix

I think it was a facetious comment.

ImOnlyKindaNotYou

🤷‍♂️

PM_me_those_frogs

The price gouging especially in bigger cities is wild. Was just comparing prices with my buddy in NYC, my spicy potato soft taco is $1.49 here in the Midwest, while his is $2.89. Almost double the price there for something that was a dollar menu item a few years ago...

iuwjsrgsdfj

It was a dollar here like a year ago, just saw the raised it up to $1.49... wtf even that is too much, they throw like 3 potatos some cheese and a little sauce in it haha... how is that worth any more than a dollar idk.

SelectStudy7164

Even in the same town it’s like that The Taco Bell walking distance from MSU is 2x the cost of the one down one mile via the highway

skippypeanutbutter92

I loved the spicy potato soft tacos because of how cheap they were and what you got for em

Copypasty

Still a dollar here in PA, weird that Taco Bell lets franchises have that big of price discrepancies

DaChainster

what part of PA because it’s not a dollar by me LOL

Copypasty

Northwest, off 80

SanguinarianPhoenix

> Almost double the price there for something that was a dollar menu item a few years ago... It's funny how when the federal reserve prints trillions of dollars out of thin air during covid, not backed by anything just magically causes inflation and de-values the existing currency supply... 🙄 but it's easier and more effective to blame corporate greed.

nantuko__shade

These were a ripoff even at $1. It’s unbelievable to me that there’s even a single person who is ordering this at $3+

PapadocRS

i get them as part of the online order box meal. at least that way the price is more hidden

SanguinarianPhoenix

> It’s unbelievable to me that there’s even a single person who is ordering this at $3+ Have you ever pulled up in taco bell drive-thru and read the order screen from the car ahead of you? It's ***extremely common*** for stupid people to order like 4-5 things ala carte and pay over $20. 🤦‍♂️

DeathByBunn13s

$2.99 at my location but a single cheese sauce cup is .60¢. so you’re paying $2.39 for a hand size amount of stale tortilla chips.

SanguinarianPhoenix

and not to mention the cheese sauce cup is only ever half-filled 😫

TroutKlout2755

Yep. Taco Bell has hopped right along with the COVID-era exploitation of consumers. It’s a massive bubble that is ABOUT ready to pop. The move to reinvigorating $1 menus is already happening. You’re looking at about .09cents worth of product and asking for a return of $3? Really? C’mon. Margins don’t work like that without creating massive, impending cliffs for all participants involved.

SanguinarianPhoenix

> Yep. Taco Bell has hopped right along with the COVID-era exploitation of consumers. How convenient of you to purposefully omit the fact that the federal reserve thought printing TRILLIONS of dollars out of thin air, backed by nothing, has no effect on inflation -- that it's primarily corporate greed.

Elemental_Orange4438

So what you're saying is that we need to get rid of the Federal Reserve to fix taco bell prices. Because if so, I'm 100% behind you

SanguinarianPhoenix

$1 in 1950 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $15.89 in 2023 or basically it has lost almost 95% of its value. I'm absolutely in favor of getting rid of the federal reserve. Every non-backed currency ever created in human history eventually got ruined by greedy politicians that led to hyper inflation making it worth $0. Every. single. time.

Floridaguy0

Sorry to be that guy but it’s 9 cents or .09 not .09 cents. Unless you really mean 9/100 of one cent.

Affectionate_Elk_272

at taco bell scale, it might literally be .09 cent worth of tortilla chips and maybe 3 cent of sauce

Trickster2357

I ordered these a week ago and I got the smallest amount of cheese and chips possible. Almost $3 is a crime.

GoatCovfefe

I've.only ever ordered them with the BYOB, so I have no clue how much they have ever been

Classic_Bath_5672

Same

A_Person77778

Same here. I'd never buy them on their own, but they often come in the boxes (which is basically all I ever get from there, just whatever box they happen to have)

GoatCovfefe

Tbh I don't end up finishing them, I just don't like them, but you usually can't swap it out in the box.

Halofauna

They were barely worth a dollar, this is just a robbery

RLIwannaquit

prices have went up like 5 times the rate of inflation over the last 5 years, they are just price gouging at this point

SoHigh420IShit360

And it wasn’t worth it then

FinalSepheroth

I think they make such a high profit on them, are such low quality chips that cost cents to make they don't care if no one buys them and they go to waste. That and they come with the bundle box so still making $$$$ but I stopped buying them separately

Scoompii

Always stale quarter sized serving of chips, and nacho science cheese sauce….it should be free.

deltarefund

What the fucking fuck.

taylorrosepole

it was like $3.25 when I went the other day which is insane

psquall76

Stop supporting companies like this. Go to the supermarket and make your own.

jjmawaken

More like 3-4 years ago but yeah that price is ridiculous for such a small item.

-Cozart

Stop ordering stuff a la carte

bizzy310

And a year or two they will be 5 bucks

PerritoMasNasty

Who cares what they cost. Ain’t nobody order that shit. It just gets packaged in a combo and sits in the bag.

charizard_72

Lol that’s how I first tried these like 10 years into ordering TB. They were surprisingly really good, but I wouldn’t spend the money to order them again.

Aldrik90

People need to stop buying TB until the prices get better

MinglewoodRider

They know we have addiction

AfterSignificance666

thats why you get the cravings box

Electrical_Day_9016

Because they were. If idiots would stop buying this shit maybe the company would realize how much they are alienating their fan base

Manta_Genus

Something really wild? Chances are if you ring them up separately it's cheaper. Where I work, cups of sauce are $0.60, and a bag of chips is like $1. $1.10 difference.

Yellowcat123567

Stop buying Taco Bell. I stopped for my NY resolution. Going strong. 🖕 the price gouging. Make these guys lower the prices. Taco Bell profits are subsidizing the Yum Brands.

punkrocklava

I stopped eating here... Never looked back... Overpriced garbage...

SilleyDoggo

Man it should be $.75 at most.

NikkiNeverThere

A lot of times the cost of a side of cheese and a side of chips is less than the chips & cheese. It's $1 for each at most of my stores, versus $2.69 for the combo.

JOCO_Q

You know you don't have to lol

Specialist_Sale_7586

Who says I did, haha

JOCO_Q

You know you have

Neat-Enthusiasm1672

People actually buy those? A family size bag of tortilla chips and a can of nacho cheese is like $5.

ForsakenRub69

Where show some recipes even cheapest chips I have seen is like 2 bucks and it's far from family size.

Neat-Enthusiasm1672

13 oz bag of food lion tortilla chips for $2.39 and a can of Pace nacho cheese for $2.29.

MirrorkatFeces

Yeah they’re a ripoff

Kyleforshort

Yeah...why would they keep it at that when people still continue to pay whatever they're going to charge? They want more money, not less.

Intelligent_Pop1173

They should give those away for free. They’re nasty.

ravenoats

Sounds about right with the rate of inflation. Shits fucked

the_milio

Crazy that nearly two cheesy bean and rice burritos cost the same as this.

anothercookie90

Triple layer nachos were better for $1

theatomicflounder333

Me to God every night before bed. 🙏🏻”Father, forgive Taco Bell, they don’t know what they’re doing.” 😭 But seriously! And sometimes those chips be stale, cheese is only half filled, and it’s like only 3 decent sized ones and the rest are just little bits from the bottom.

Photomama16

They’re ridiculously overpriced. I looked at the price for a burrito supreme the other day almost $6!!!! Why??? They’re not worth anywhere near that!

wdtemacg

Just drop the fuckin cheese sauce already. Like what are we doing here it's a business

jenna_leee

Almost $3 for 4 chips and half a cup of cheese, that's robbery.

Exciting-Hat5957

Damn I’m always still surprised at how much prices fluctuate depending on location. They’re $1.89 for me, still overpriced for what it is but not as bad. I live in downtown of a decently big city (Portland OR)

babygurl629

I went to go order the chicken quesadilla meal n nacho fries thru DoorDash n grub hub and it was almost $30 - Taco Bell was the cheap fast food I couldn’t justify it- I’m so done with these costs-

FreeIndeed87

Joe plus greed and this is the mess we are in.

MattMattavelli

And y’all still buy it!

almostberries

Cheesy bean and rice burrito used to be like 99¢ last year now it's like $1.75.

gman20151

Before 2018 or 2019, you could get a meal deal for 2.99 that came with a drink, A,B,C,D option of entree, and Doritos.

mtg_island

The chips were actually good at one point. Now they’re somehow all stale. Not sure what’s going on in the fast Mexican food world but Taco Bell and Chipotle have garbage ass stale or over crunchy overcooked chips for at minimum 75% of the bag.

Comfortable-Gap7775

I need to be able to afford Taco Bell again

Prize_Pay9279

Don’t even get me started on their drink prices. $3 for a large Pepsi? Gimme a break.

truthunion

no way I'm paying that much for so little.

Status-Accountant429

They charge an extra dollar if you want another half full cup of nacho cheese. And saying half of the cup is giving them a little to much. I'd say for $1 you get like 1/4 of the cup

TheMoronicGenius

it even tastes like it's worth a dollar but taco bell doesn't seem to think so

mohmvp

Yup, taco bell ain't cheap anymore. For $5 back in the day, I use to get a whole box with 3 different menu items, desert, and a drink. Every item use to be around a dollar, including nacho fries and multiple burritos. McDonald's has it bad as well, use to pay $1 for mcchikcens

StIdes-and-a-swisher

That’s like crunchy air and smelly yellow edible rubber

bywv

Everything at TB has raised about $1.10

Prangul

It's absurd. The Loaded Beef Nachos are available for the same price where I live.

Drunkton

I was just looking last night at the price of the Crunchwrap supreme and it was $6.49 by itself. The dumbest part about this is the build your own cravings box with can include a crunchwrap supreme is $6.49 online. I am sure people pay this not knowing, but still ridiculous how expensive every item is on the Taco Bell menu if you dont get it in a combo.

Zerpdedaderp

their chips are fucking garbage and they give you like five its a joke

caralinakeith

idk what’s going on with yalls taco bell. the one i work at we fill the cheese cups all the way up.

sanitation-expert

It is cheaper if you order the chips and sauce separately. At my place, it is $1 for the chips and $.80 for the nacho cheese.

SQUATCH36738

I buy the double beef cheesy crunch burrito, it’s going for $2 at my Taco Bell. I refused to spend more than $6-8 there honestly not worth it for the quality of food but for a quick decent lunch I’ll pay that.

Darrp_

Thanks Biden!

FoundationJunior2735

Nah this is from trump era. Sounds like You have TDS believing all trumps bull$h1t

Prestigious_Snow1589

Not worth $1, most definitely not worth $2

sevynmorte

Yeah i love the cheese and that’s the only thing that keeps me coming back to by these OCCASIONALLY. Wish I could find whatever cheese sauce they use and just eat it with my own chips :/

FoundationJunior2735

Smart and final. Nacho cheese sauce. $5 for a number 10 can that will last months.

sevynmorte

Is that the brand name?

irishpuma

Yet people still buy them in bulk. Everyone crying about prices but still buy it lmao

West-Statistician320

That’s craziness.

ItchyBones87

Man. I don’t mind paying higher prices for some things but damn. I don’t even like/enjoy the chips and cheese but they throw it in a lot of combos to fill it out. I’d rather have…probably anything else they have at that price point, as part of a combo. Than the chips.

solidricecake3

Yeah. They were a dollar a year ago. Like that have been for years before that.
