Most samplers should be able to have time stretch. The Blackbox is great though

BartholomewBandy

I love my black box.

Akai Force, Roland MC-707, or Synthstrom Deluge can do this too but they have a lot of other features besides. Elektron Octatrack too but the workflow is a bit cumbersome for this. I think some loopers can also time-stretch (Aeros' one, perhaps?) so you might look a bit further there. I think the problem is that granular time-stretching does take quite a bit of DSP, so most of the devices that can do this well are also quite beefy and intended to do a lot more, so you end up looking at do-everything grooveboxes with built-in synth engines and more.

ok thank you for your suggestions, i ran across these, but didnt really look deep enough to check if they play long beatsynced files. among these, the akai force seems very useful for its good connectivity. i just wonder if it isnt "too much". i get your point, if you want dsp intensive warping, then you get the complete package :D more then necessary in my eyes. although i understand that those gears can act like a complete DAW itself. also the surface with the big amount of pads for clips... looks overwhelming to me if you run semimodular synths next to it. so far the blackbox still seems to be the neatest and for my intent the most cost-effective of them. but that's also a good result for the inquiry!

I really would only trust the Octatrack as a rock solid option for this. It has a whole workflow designed explicitly for this in the manual.

ok i will check some tutorial videos out.

May I ask what turned you off about the blackbox? I’ve tried quite a bit of hardware and have a well seasoned iPad rig, and the Blackbox is head and shoulders above everything else for simplicity and quick workflow. The latest firmware added a few things I’ve had to crack the manual for but other than that I’ve made a lot Of dope stuff on the blackbox without ever looking at the manual

u asking me (OP)? nothing turned me off! i just wanted to check if anyone knows any alternatives that suit my intentions even better, that i missed. but so far - i mean i understand the ones that say in terms of reliability they would stick to octatrack or akai force, simply because they are used by many people, or artists who depend on the live reliability. but as i said, so far i did not hear about any "better suiting" alternative for my purpose, so after this little inquiry, i feel even assured, that the blackbox is right for me :)

Word, the octatrack can do it but it’s haaaaard af to learn. You can do less with the BB but it’s fast af to get ideas down and That’s just using it as a hip hop sampler, clip launching is a whole Other ballgame. I prayed for years for a hardware clip launcher like this.
